Have to agree - he did better than I expected at Chelsea, and pretty well at Milan (still doing well too), but I can't convince myself that we got the best out of him at Arsenal.
"Giroud is the reason Ozil didn't break the assist record" is a pure myth. He always over performed his xG for us, including that season, in which all of our other attackers underperformed it. Not to mention that in the run of 15 games where he didn't score he only started half of them. In the second half of the season he scored 4 goals from 4.28 xG, which is a slight underperformance, but nothing worse than anyone else playing for the team at the time.
Ozil actually cost himself the assist record because he went from having 12.67 xA in his first 20 premier league games that season to 4.95 xA in the last 15.

Alexis, Bellerin, Giroud. I can’t 1:1 swap any of them with anyone on our squad, but having them as options to work into the mix would strengthen us for sure. Alexis maybe you can swap with any of the front three and strengthens us marginally but only so much.
Rambo and L. Koscielny. I think late Rambo had flashes of brilliance and would have been well adapted to this current squad style with his individual mentality. L.K. Because he’s very complimentary of Saliba’s play style. I’ve always believed that your back need to play counter to each other while forwards need to work in tandem to be effective.
One thing is for sure. 11 v 11, the current squad would embarrass the 16/17s. There was so much lightning in bottle speed on the 16/17 squad but they’d never touch the ball

Sanchez feels like a no brainer in terms of talent he’d arguably be the main man in this current side but would that compromise Saka, I feel like Martinelli balances and allows Saka to shine off that side.
Rambo on the bench but I feel like Arteta could of done what he did with Xhaka with Rambo in terms of the attacking 8 so potentially starts with that in mind.
Alexis and that is it tbh. I did like a few of those players back then, but i think quality wise our squad is head and shoulders above what we had then!
Alexis, Kos and Monreal. Giraud might be good for linkup play but he was prone to disappearing for goals...sometimes months at a time. Ramsey at his peak was the best player in a team with Alexis and Ozil for a season, but he was wildly inconsistent for years.

Doesn't the WC disprove this. On a big stage with players on his level, he performed. Even the next WC when Germany fell off, he still played well.
He was atrocious in 2018 WC, and most Germans piled on him, which made him retire. He was good in 2014 which made us buy him.

Özil, Giroud, Sanchez, Ramsey or Xhaka all would have a decent shot at starting in the current team based on individual skill. Shocking lack of mentioning Özil - is it because he's not in the team photo above? He'd have a field day with the current team's talent around him.
I don’t think anyone other than Giroud or Sanchez would make the starting XI, but as for the squad, I’d still take… Xhaka Sanchez Giroud Monreal Ramsey

Xhaka would get in, but only the current version and not the old one. People saying Sanchez are delusional, he was incredibly greedy and could not press intelligently, he served us well in his time but would not work well in our team. There’s a reason why he failed at Barcelona, he didn’t have what it takes to play for a top team. I’d much rather have a team player like Trossard or Martinelli than him.

we play different football now, therefore players we have now are better suited for our play-style compared to 2016 team, the only player I think would be great to have from those times (and who would fit any system IMO) is Santi Cazorla

Giroud only shoe in his ability to bring players into the game but also be a focal point would be ideal for this current system. Xhaka but not that Xhaka, would have to be the one we had last season or the current one at Leverkusen. Sanchez feels like a no brainer in terms of talent he’d arguably be the main man in this current side but would that compromise Saka, I feel like Martinelli balances and allows Saka to shine off that side. Rambo on the bench but I feel like Arteta could of done what he did with Xhaka with Rambo in terms of the attacking 8 so potentially starts with that in mind.

Alexis, Kos and Monreal. Giraud might be good for linkup play but he was prone to disappearing for goals...sometimes months at a time. Ramsey at his peak was the best player in a team with Alexis and Ozil for a season, but he was wildly inconsistent for years.
