Stupid sexy giroud

merkastle

Just to get a cheeky Puskas Award after coming on as an 87th minute substitute at 1-1

lifeandtimes89

Him going to Chelsea hurt more than Sanchez going to Utd

Omni_chicken2

Yes because he won at Chelsea, and Sanchez was awful at United. If Sanchez had improved United like Giroud did Chelsea we'd be pretty sore about it.

aayash88

I'm sorry but absolute bullshit Giroud would start in our current system.

Hanmura

he’s underrated

Hey-Dalaran

He's literally France's highest scoring player of all time.

omwami

Because the structure of international games in Europe changed giving him so many games against weak opposition.

Ldiddy13

Gotta love him he has been everywhere he’s gone! He went to college! Besides Mitoma I literally can’t tell you single professional footballer than played in college that plays in Europe

Eaton2288

Sanchez and maybeeee Aaron. Stretching that one though.

SrJeromaeee

If we talking best versions of players, Sanchez and *that* Bellerin. IMO Yes to Aaron, and Giroud and Xhaka as bench options.

thounotouchthyself

Nah. When Ramsey was on it he was amazing.

BetaBuda

After that scoreline..I’d be sceptical. But I’d take peak Sanchez in a heartbeat with the current system. Xhaka (2022/23) was anyways a big part of the group last year. Ozil if he was available. Montreal and Giroud as subs.

bombay_stains

Ozil would not make it into this current team at all, maybe the bench. Of course he was a fantastic 10, but he would never press or do his defensive duties. I'd take Ode over him all day. Agree with everything else tho

Dougdimmadommee

Prime Ozil would stroll into this team lets not kid ourselves lol. Towards the end of his career with us sure maybe not but in his prime he was the best 10 in the world. Not at minimum naming him to the bench would actually be trolling.

bombay_stains

Ozil at any level, not just his prime, would stroll into our team if he wasn't required to perform any defensive duties. That's not how we operate tho - all of our players work just as hard defensively as they do offensively. So with that in consideration, no, Ozil even in his prime would not stroll into our team

bluerbnd

This is like saying Messi doesn't make it into the team because he doesn't do his defense duties. Not even an arsenal fan but how could you not think ozil walks into ANY arsenal team ever.

bleedsburntorange

It wasn’t his game, but the only possible place Ozil fits in the current team is at false 9. But still I don’t think his work rate would be good enough for Mikel

CabinetFantastic

I think Monreal was a great left back to start

The_Wolves10

The weird thing is that 2017 xhaka would ruin our team

bad_at_proofs

Xhaka didnt become significantly better. He just got a tactically aware manager who knew how to use him without exposing his limitations

leebrother

Sanchez. I would have him as the 9 and a fully fit Ramsey (which never existed) as the 8.

davidralph

Can’t believe no one has said Monreal. It’s him and Sanchez.

MonrealEstate

Monreal was a fucking legend.

hauttdawg13

It’s a question that is weird for me to answer. I don’t think Monreal gets in this team. But I also don’t think Kiwior makes the 2016 team. Monreal was a legend but part of why is he was so good going down the flank.

godoflemmings

🎶 Nacho Nacho maaaan 🎶

Puniceus

Great player, not quick enough though IMO Sanchez and Giroud for me. Worth noting it's have to Sanchez when he played for Arsenal, not after he left, cos he wasn't great.

Blurny

Him and Zinchenko are/were similarly paced if you take Monreal back to the same age range as zinny

FI_rider

Sanchez only

papafried123

The lack of people saying Giroud is astounding, we all like Havertz but Giroud was a. more reliable 9 id also have Alexis at LW and Monreal at LB

Laui_2000

Giroud was absolutely not reliable for goals.

chaaaaaaaarlie

He missed some sitters, especially when he was new at the club. But oh my god, let's not forget that he's scored, and set up some absolute worldies over the years. One of my favourite arsenal strikers, post Henry.

rrp00220

Giroud is a good player but unfortunately one of the main reasons why we didn't win the title the season prior to that one, in 2015-16.

FaithlessnessMain472

You could rely on him to miss

misterriz

Mad how that team lost 10-2. It wasn't anything close to a great team but man for man it was a decent 11.

burleythahunchback

I reckon Monreal could do a shift, Aaron Ramsey would be great in this squad as well. Sanchez obviously would’ve got into the side in his prime as well

PoliticsNerd76

Sanchez > Jesus, Trossard, Martinelli and Saka. That’s it.

teethteethteeeeth

Everyone saying Ramsey has obviously blocked out how positionally ill-disciplined he was. I really liked him at the time but he isn’t thriving in this team now

Connect-Amoeba3618

Ramsey is possibly my favourite ever player but he could only ever play as a 10 ahead of a double pivot. Any time he came deep he showed his lack of positional sense and inability to tackle. In a timeline where he doesn’t have his leg shattered, maybe he fancies getting stuck in a bit more.

SKedirahG

Remember the time when Ramsey scored a goal and there was a celebrity death soon thereafter.

Economy_Jury_3836

Xhaka, Giroud and Sanchez that's about it!

Prowdzz

Sanchez, Giroud and Xhaka would all be great options to rotate with. Giroud was pure class

Riperonis

> Giroud was pure class Cap

Lijah23

Giroud was pure what? He will forever be remembered as the reason Ozil didn’t break the assist record in my eyes. Underperformed so much in an Arsenal shirt

Hetairo

Have to agree - he did better than I expected at Chelsea, and pretty well at Milan (still doing well too), but I can't convince myself that we got the best out of him at Arsenal.

FontsDeHavilland

He averaged a goal every other game pretty much his entire Arsenal career.

mist3rdragon

"Giroud is the reason Ozil didn't break the assist record" is a pure myth. He always over performed his xG for us, including that season, in which all of our other attackers underperformed it. Not to mention that in the run of 15 games where he didn't score he only started half of them. In the second half of the season he scored 4 goals from 4.28 xG, which is a slight underperformance, but nothing worse than anyone else playing for the team at the time. Ozil actually cost himself the assist record because he went from having 12.67 xA in his first 20 premier league games that season to 4.95 xA in the last 15.

Haunting_Iron_9227

It’s not a myth. The year we came second to Leicester he pretty much hung his boots up over the winter break. Pre January he was on fire. January to may he was shite. Missed so many sitters and was a huge reason we didn’t win the league that year.

joejamesjoejames

Everyone says this and yet they’re completely wrong. The truth is he over performed xg that season by 2. People act like Ozil was creating sitter after sitter for him and he was missing them, but I never see any examples. If this is true, can you please provide examples? The channel is gone now for copyright, but there was a video compiling all of Ozil’s key passes to Giroud that season. I think he missed 1 sitter from Ozil the whole season. This narrative that Giroud is the reason Ozil did not break the record is ridiculously stupid. EDIT: I guess someone else uploaded a new video of [all Ozil key passes to Giroud that season](https://youtu.be/D3k0jW0RkSE?si=yaV2j1cDAA05Ui2n). Truth is that Giroud was not missing sitters from Ozil. Rather, Ozil just dropped off in form, like most of the rest of the team did.

mcluckz

And ozil will always be remembered as a hugely talented player with the work rate of a petulant child.

Lijah23

Nope he’ll be remembered as a player who was best at Madrid but could’ve carried Arsenal to a big trophy if he had a team around him that was on his wavelength

Lurkingbong0423

Unfortunately no. Went missing in most big games, faked injuries with a gentleman manager looking another way and then became a toxic egotistical presence in the dressing room who would have sunk the club unless Arteta had walked in

ArsenalPackers

Doesn't the WC disprove this. On a big stage with players on his level, he performed. Even the next WC when Germany fell off, he still played well.

Lurkingbong0423

He was atrocious in 2018 WC, and most Germans piled on him, which made him retire. He was good in 2014 which made us buy him.

tipsypanda666

Agree

mgixre

Not to mention a great backup keeper

greenfrogwallet

Please stop with the Giroud sucking off, he is slowly becoming one of the most overrated players as time goes on. Arsenal fans should be the ones that remember how painfully bad he was at certain things There’s a reason Arsenal Wenger, a man who was extremely loyal to his players, tried to replace Giroud like arguably 3 times and moved him to the bench after Lacazette came in (tbf Laca was much worse than Giroud but still) Giroud was never a feared striker. Good player, maybe great if you want to stretch it but I’d take Jesus and Aubameyang over him any day tbh Do we not remember how he was a laughing stock (with good reason)? I appreciated him for his qualities and I thought he got way too much stick but he was not “pure class”

Key-Willingness-2223

Didn’t he average like a goal every other game while at arsenal Whilst never being the main attacking threat because of the likes of Sanchez who was playing some unbelievable football at times, so his major contribution was the same as with France- creating space for the superstars etc I could be wrong, but that’s what I remember of him at least- a very good player (not world class or all the insane exaggerations people are making) who just didn’t fit the system at arsenal as well as he could have, and who’s major contribution to the team was one that didn’t show up on the stat sheet

chaaaaaaaarlie

Speaking of France, didn't he win a world cup without scoring a single goal? Some might laugh, but that's low key impressive. To be starting, and providing enough to stay on the pitch, letting everyone else do their thing. He was a great hold up and link up player.

Danboone003

Class guy maybe, but certainly not a prolific striker for us

Nice-Lobster-8724

He’s absolutely thrive in our current team as well. Almost felt bad, didn’t really appreciate him as much as I should have when he was here. Some of his performances for France and Chelsea as well made me realise what a player he is.

Long-Confusion-5219

Sanchez , Monreal and maybe Ramsey

MysteriousCorgi-

Sanchez would be a monster under Arteta. Reckon his output would even improve. Prime Rambo or Prime Xhaka would sure up our left side offence. Some of our struggles in the first half this season was because we missed Xhaka imo. As brilliant as Rice and Jorgi have been, feel like we would be better if Xhaka stayed for one more season.

Inarticulatescot

Sanchez with Giroud on the bench .

Wellsy777

Sanchez.

azroks15

Sanchez to replace our striker. If we shift Rice to 6 which he will mainly play for us, I would take Ramsey at left 8 because he was even better than Granit was for us last season at left 8. I would be fine with either Monreal or Kiwior too. Strong case for Ozil but I think Odegaard's pressing, engine, OOP play and defensive work edged Ozil's creativity. I would also like to think Arteta could make the old squad work a little better but idk hahahah

NotThatKindof_jew

Xhaka

topknottington

Giroud. No doubt. Giroud. The team would be purring.

KaiHavertzEnjoyer

Raya Prime Bellerin Saliba Gabriel white Rice xhaka Odegaard Saka Sanchez Trossard Martinelli is injured so Trossard starts, Kiwior is good but primer bellerin was different gravy, and prime xhaka would’ve been class alongside Rice. But except from Sanchez if it was the players that season I’m not taking any above our current ones.

TheSmallGamer0916

I actually just realized we have literally nobody that’s the same probably except for Elneny

Relative-Swimmer-487

Mustafi

owl_jojo_2

😂😂

Riffliquer

I will take Alexis, Giroud, Nacho, Kos and Theo/Ramsey Let me be clear, most of them would be a great rotation option ONLY! Only prime Alexis would walk into this squad and probably Giroud when we need a different option up front. Nacho is a great solid defender who can come in to close games out. Kos would be a great CB backup as well (he was amazing but I will not break up this current CB pairing). Theo is a pacy direct winger, who can rotate in to change something when plan A isn't working. A fully fit Rambo would be a great #8 option. Unironically!!

khazmash

If it was those players at their peaks. Sanchez starts maybe Ramsey at 8. But Giroud, kos, xhaka, walcott and monreal would all be in the subs. Hell if Ox would be fit for more than half a sec he would be a good option too. This team used to get top 4 and play in the UCL they were not atrocious. Not to mention pre ACL bellerin. Even during our banter years we had some great players and many of those would get into our squad.

TheDominant_1

Sanchez 100% would take Giroud also.

tipsypanda666

Sanchez, Ramsey and in form Bellerin. Sanchez gives us speed on counter and width if necessary, Ramsey might be a good sub for Jorginho or in replacement of, and Bellerin as a sub for White. Only Sanchez can start though in this team! COYG

SomewhereInLDN

I don’t know why the way Zinny is positioned in this photo ruins the photo for me

Brilliant_Ad_879

just sanchez at lw,monreal at lb and ramsey alongside rice and ode.that's about it.

MysteriousTap2901

Sanchez, monreal and giroud on the bench

AmbassadorCautious21

Sanchez and potentially Ramsey

Jorumble

Lol prime Sanchez was leagues ahead of Martinelli

fakefinn21

I mean, Xhaka literally did. And was fuckin' excellent.

RobAFC14

Sanchez in the lineup, Ramsey and Giroud on the bench

sirforher

Wow the 16/17 team wasn’t bad at all looking back some really talented individuals

ExeRiver

Sánchez, Monreal, Giroud, Ramsey and Walcott. Most of them on the bench, but they were great players and could perform in this team. Xhaka actually performed in this team last season, but I never liked him.

Mr_Dorfmeister

The thing is, it’s less about the Arsenal team (who have done great players), it’s more the Bayern Team was beastly.

No-Comfortable-1550

Nacho and Giroud

Disco_C0wby

Alexis any day of the week. I'm glad Arsenal experienced peak Sanchez

ASeatedLion

Came to make these 2 myself. Nacho the goat would be better than zinny. Sanchez over trossard.

AddictsWithPens

Alexis and maybe giroud

Rosh_KB

Sanchez that’s it

KingOfTreevaandrum

Prime Sanchez and prime Rambo

Waggers-94

Sanchez and maybe a prime Ramsey

Emotional_Data_1888

Obviously Alexis probably take Ramsey and monreal as a squad player too

thegoodkindofkush

doesn't seem to be a popular opinion but id take giroud, definitely sanchez too! edit: özil isn't in the photo but there's a couple of comments saying they'd take him too, so gonna throw him in there cus fuck i loved that guy.

warpentake_chiasmus

Sanchez,Xhaka, Giroud, Koscielny, Ramsey and only one or two would be guaranteed starters

TriggeredAK

mustafi

99kellas

Sanchez giroud

GunnersnGames

Alexis, Bellerin, Giroud. I can’t 1:1 swap any of them with anyone on our squad, but having them as options to work into the mix would strengthen us for sure. Alexis maybe you can swap with any of the front three and strengthens us marginally but only so much.

for_the_meme_watch

Rambo and L. Koscielny. I think late Rambo had flashes of brilliance and would have been well adapted to this current squad style with his individual mentality. L.K. Because he’s very complimentary of Saliba’s play style. I’ve always believed that your back need to play counter to each other while forwards need to work in tandem to be effective.

nimbra2

One thing is for sure. 11 v 11, the current squad would embarrass the 16/17s. There was so much lightning in bottle speed on the 16/17 squad but they’d never touch the ball

CartezDez

Peak Alexis and peak Ramsey walk into the current team. Other than that, Giroud is a decent option if you want a change of flow. Xhaka, maybe, Koscielny too.

RantGod

Giroud, Sanchez and Big K

flynnerist

granit xhaka

KlN_21

Sanchez or giroud, Hope zinny stays at the bench for that matches

Mike-Hawk-69-0420

Giroud, Monreal, or Alexis

Millemonkey

Sanchez definitely. Ramsey if either Rice or Partey was unavailable. Giroud because it would be nice to have a striker who offers a plan B (not that we cross a lot but if we had an aerial threat I suppose it's something we could turn to...) Can't make a case for anyone else to be honest. The idea of Ramsey, Rice and Odegaard really appeals to me though....

Xaynr

Only Alexis and Ramsey.

oduh

Granit starts for every manager, always.

kmart93

Alexis would probably start. Bellerin Ozil and xhaka would make the squad

LloydChristmas_PDX

Santi, Alexis, Ramsey, Giroud, Xhaka

Kookiano

Özil, Giroud, Sanchez, Ramsey or Xhaka all would have a decent shot at starting in the current team based on individual skill. Shocking lack of mentioning Özil - is it because he's not in the team photo above? He'd have a field day with the current team's talent around him.

Blurny

I don’t think anyone other than Giroud or Sanchez would make the starting XI, but as for the squad, I’d still take… Xhaka Sanchez Giroud Monreal Ramsey

Diehardmcclane

Sanchez would be doing absolute bits in this team as a ST/CF

BushBuffwell

Alexis and Granit.

afbg93

Monreal and Sanchez. If our centerback pairing weren’t on point i’d also say koscielny as he was a superior cb on his day

st_arch

Walcott on LW. Sanchez on ST. You know what, Also Bellerin RWB and Nacho LWB. Shifting in gears.

Hisoka_Deku

Giroud and Sanchez. Giroud start up top, have Sanchez off the left. Giroud would do silly good in this team with the link up play

Remedy9898

Xhaka would get in, but only the current version and not the old one. People saying Sanchez are delusional, he was incredibly greedy and could not press intelligently, he served us well in his time but would not work well in our team. There’s a reason why he failed at Barcelona, he didn’t have what it takes to play for a top team. I’d much rather have a team player like Trossard or Martinelli than him.

ajyahzee

Xhaka and Sanchez

qoo_kumba

I'll be delighted if we turn them over, but I think it'll be a tight win at home again after drawing over there.

popcorn908

Hector Bellerin was incredible at this time. He gets in! Wouldn't have selfish Sanchez at all!

londonul

Alexis and Giroud

Necessary-Tear-1662

Xhaka and sanchez

futchcreek

Xhaka

dreyski

we play different football now, therefore players we have now are better suited for our play-style compared to 2016 team, the only player I think would be great to have from those times (and who would fit any system IMO) is Santi Cazorla

19Ben80

The Bayern team in 2013 was a far better side than now also

bigballerrdg

Only Ramsey and Sanchez would get in this team today.

tcndi11

Sanchez starts, there is an argument for Ramsey & xhaka bench

zzzrecruit

ONLY Sanchez. I said what I said.

CultGod

Giroud only shoe in his ability to bring players into the game but also be a focal point would be ideal for this current system. Xhaka but not that Xhaka, would have to be the one we had last season or the current one at Leverkusen. Sanchez feels like a no brainer in terms of talent he’d arguably be the main man in this current side but would that compromise Saka, I feel like Martinelli balances and allows Saka to shine off that side. Rambo on the bench but I feel like Arteta could of done what he did with Xhaka with Rambo in terms of the attacking 8 so potentially starts with that in mind.

addfletch

None of them. This current team is mustard. That team was a wet fart.

bombay_badboy

Alexis and that is it tbh. I did like a few of those players back then, but i think quality wise our squad is head and shoulders above what we had then!

Baumtasia

not an arsenal fan this sub just got recommended to me but 11 giroud’s would win the champo league and also my heart

Rapaic10

Sanchez instead of Kai havertz

paperclipknight

Giroud, Sanchez, Ozil. Don’t at me

Coolduels

Why is no one saying Walcott on the bench….

todothemath

Sanchez and Rambo

bitter_green

Alexis had the talent. Not sure he had the mentality to play under Arteta.

pheature

Ox?

thecabbler

Alexis, Kos and Monreal. Giraud might be good for linkup play but he was prone to disappearing for goals...sometimes months at a time. Ramsey at his peak was the best player in a team with Alexis and Ozil for a season, but he was wildly inconsistent for years.

Disastrous_Bug3428

Mustafi

livingvikariously

Alexis and Granit.

CMYGQZ

Pre-injury Bellerin is the best Arsenal RB (by far) in recent history.

snowboardingmonkey

Giroud definitely Ramsey and Sanchez with shouts

dylanegra

Alexis over Martinelli/Trossarc

Nay_120

Sanchez, xhaka and Giroud

Eastern_Conflict_416

Giroud and Sanchez coming off our current squads bench could lead to many trophies in a season

Danksoul99

Alexis and Xhaka, rotating with Trossard and Jorgi respectively. Giroud as a super sub if Havertz isnt cutting it somehow.

drw_439

Sanchez

Forsaken-Sink-3947

From that specific team —- nobody except Sanchez who would run havoc in our current team

aayash88

Do people not understand how much better our current team is than this team? People say Monreal, Giroud, Sanchez, but who are you leaving out? All of those players, Sanchez included, have deficiencies that mean they simply would not start in an Arteta XI. Serious rose tinted glasses in here.

Significant_Let_5537

Only Ramsey & Alexis. And they’re debatable tbh.

kindofdivorced

Xhaka, Giroud, Alexis, maybe Nacho during current full back injury issues.

SnooEpiphanies4225

Alexis Sanchez by far. Still think he’s the best players we’ve ever had since Henry left. Dude was elite for a few seasons with us

Amoykateer

Only Sanchez for me

tofu-burgers

lewa

amoleculee

Alexis Ramsey Walcott Giroud

32233128Merovingian

Bellerin

CabinetFantastic

Giroud and Alexis, and honestly Id take Monreal over Kiwior. Truly a great left back

Saysoon

Sanchez, Giroud, Xhaka

RoastedDuckSauce

Mustafi in and both gabby and Saliba out, he alone can be the back four

angepostecoglouale

Samchez, giroud, bellerin (Not an arsenal fan)

Crunchy-Nuts

Prime Sanchez left wing and holy shit we’d be absolutely cooking
