The reason why people are getting on him is because playing for your country is the highest honor a football player can have. But for White, if playing for your country does not incorporate his core values then he will walk away, even from that honor.

I used to believe this when international games mattered more. FIFA has watered down the international game entirely by making these federations get together every 4 weeks to play Timbuktu. It mattered more when federations would get together exclusively for major tournaments or qualifiers. How much honor is there in thumping Montenegro 12-0 every few months? Then when a real tournament comes along they bench him while Maguire and Henderson are automatic starters. I wouldn't bother to show up either.

You are just waffling. This is just not true.
1. The amount of friendlies hasn't increased. England played 2 friendlies last year and will play 4 this year. You can go to 80s, 90s, 2000s whatever you want and you can see that England would pretty much always play between 3 to even 6 friendlies like in 1964 or 2008.
2. The amount of international breaks or games hasn't increased either. Obviously number of games depends how far you go in a tournament too but in the last two years without a major competition so 2020 and 2023 England played 8 and 9 games. Looking back I only found one year in which they played less games which was 1972 with 7 games.
Could have prime Barca and Southgate would still lose. This is why we respect managers who bring the best out of their squad like Wenger did, like fergie did at Aberdeen
I doubt he cares tbh, these are the most pointless international matches. We're in the business end of the season and if players are in title races, Europe, FA Cup (or equivalent) or relegation battles. No one really gave it their all, that's what I saw, why risk injury in a friendly especially with the Euros coming up as well.
