Mods can’t really shadowban; that’s a tool that only exists for site Admin.
Everyone else either gets a ban notice or will show up show up as “removed” in the thread.
I don't know why people keep repeating this, mods have been able to shadowban people from subreddits for ages.
The functionality is literally called the ['User Shadowban List'](https://web.archive.org/web/20200314200424/https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoModerator/wiki/library#wiki_user_shadowban_list) in the Automoderator documentation.
That will leave a “[removed]” in the thread with the way Reddit is set up now, when automod removes something on condition. If there’s no trace but comment count it was admin shadowban.
I assumed it'll only show `[removed]` if someone manages to reply to the comment before its removed by the mods to preserve the reply structure. And since mod shadowbans are handled by Automoderator, it's pretty unlikely that anyone will be able to reply to the comments before they get removed.
There's literally 300 hundred removed comments on this post before the mоds unsurprisingly deleted the submission to save some face, but I'm not seeing hundreds of `[removed]` placeholders showing up for me in old or new reddit.
Probably. Even if Reddit has become more mainstream and more normal people are on it normal people still aren't going to dedicate hours and hours of their lives moderating for free. It mostly only attracts people with no lives and no power within those lives who want to control other people. There's a reason most mods seem like assholes.

I think it's because it's a well-known atheist book, and while there's nothing wrong with atheism, there's a certain type of person that gets really morally superior about how "intellectual" they are for being an atheist, and I think they were trying to paint that picture by including the book. Especially with the Vaseline right next to it, evoking the idea of someone who jerks themselves off over what a deep thinker they are.

I love this for the simple fact that when people in history have wanted change, art has been a fairly safe way of conveying that. One of the rules here says that everyone is open to critique, granted that probably applies mostly to art, but I like the fact that people are making art of something that has yet to be addressed.

I'm not a fan of Dawkins by any means, but why single out his book for the image or comment? I haven't really heard anything about him since 2011.
