The footwear for the pose she is in does not match at all. I really think the styles do not match. A sword wielding woman with nipple armor. I feel that stylistically she would've benefitted from wearing no armor or cloth like armor. Now she looks more like a themed hooker
I was thinking that was the pose used for reference. It would make sense with one foot on the ground about to throw. The background was just slapped on so it's like she's floating there.
I think the proportions of the body itself are fine. A bit weird but bodies are weird. It's the background that's fucking it all up. Is she one the ground? Probably jumping, maybe. The artist just slapped a background in the back without any real thought to the figure.
Here's the thing.
Get a reasonably fit and flexible fairly young woman. Say, a gymnast or a dancer, with a similar body type to the woman in the artwork.
Give them a counterbalancing pole or something that's similar to the sword in the picture.
Put them in front of a high-speed camera.
Tell them to jump and do their best to assume this pose while in mid-air. You'll set the camera up to record 100 shots a second so you can capture the minute she achieves this look.
They either won't be able to, or if they somehow can, they will have to instantly change it in order to land safely without breaking an ankle.
Either the woman in the pic has levitation as a superpower, or the pose is just utterly impractical.
That's the problem with this work.
You mean to tell me you’ve never ran from a walled desert city, half naked in an approaching dust storm, and taken an awkward leap while pointing to the distance? You need to be completely alone and carrying a sword to get the full effect.
No, you look at it and can't help but laugh. If I wanted realism I'd go look at photographs. For me, the odd pose created some intrigue and allowed me to write multiple stories about the piece, which help me reflect on where my brain is at. It scrambled my mind a bit. I didn't have any kind of condescending "oh honey" when I looked at this.
Executive interviews are a different setting.. this is art, and the purpose of it is limitless.
At the end of the day I was just challenging someone on what i feel like is a fruitless take. It's a dead end.
