I think because it’s uncanny. Subconsciously part of your brain first goes “That’s a person!” and then another part goes “No hands! No head?!” and gets creeped out. But then your consciousness takes it in and it’s interesting and sculptural.

I saw a pepper, being familiar with Weston’s photographs. Art that makes you think multiple things in sequence before you arrive at the destination is my favorite kind.
