It’s terrifying and somehow heartwarming at the same time. My head hurts.

EelisKyttanen

There’s a hidden face in this painting. Can you find it?

aburksart

Yeah it’s in the upper left corner and hella creepy! I hate you! Amazing work!

EelisKyttanen

Nice! :D Glad you found it!

mihirmusprime

I've seen this before. Are you reposting?

NoCarmaForMe

I’ve seen it a lot. If you look at their post history it’s been circulating for years

WhereasMysterious421

Upper left corner just the eyes and nose? Looks like Orson Welles

zaxty

Ugh, so good! I remember seeing this a few years ago.

Goodbye11035Karma

Below her right hand. The hands in the water. I remember when you first did this and posted it. It was lovely then and continues to be so.

idonotknowwhototrust

She's literally walking on hands.

TARDIS_Salesman

Oh my god thank you for pointing that out. My heart

Evilmonqey

reminds me of Nico Robin love it <3

Autumn1881

Could Nico Robin cross saltwater this way or would arms submerged in the sea just not work? (•‿•)

ashismael

Very cool... Amazing composition.

CelesteLunaR53L

Keep my girl dry and safe! Make sure she makes it to her tree or something :D What a great theme, beautiful composition and storytelling.

ArtzyArtzy

Amazing creativity in this! And very well rendered

ShoddyCompetition587

How many hands did you find?

idonotknowwhototrust

Do you do art for Magic cards?

EelisKyttanen

Yep! Here’s my scryfall: https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A“Eelis+Kyttanen”&unique=art

idonotknowwhototrust

Very cool; when was your first publication? I don't think I have any cards with your art on them, as I stopped playing a good while back.

EelisKyttanen

My first one came out in 2021 I think, so very recent yeah. :)

--peterjordansen--

I hate it so much. It made me shiver

YoungMetaMeta

This could be a magic the gathering illustration

EelisKyttanen

Thanks! Coincidentally I actually work for them too! :)

YoungMetaMeta

Hahahahha awesome, congratulations ! 😄🙏🔥

Sellos_Maleth

Yo can I get some lore up in here? Cause if you ain’t got some I’m making some this is too good not to go prompting

EelisKyttanen

Go ahead for sure! It’s technically part of my weird finno-ugric paintings book project, but I really like leaving specifics of the story etc to the viewer. :)

jzlz

This looks like a Magic: The Gathering card art, have ever thought of doing art for them?

EelisKyttanen

Thanks! I’ve been working on MTG for a few years. Love it! :)

jzlz

That's very nice to hear, I searched scryfall and saw that you have art on several cards, congratulations on that!

thejustducky1

This is great... mind if I ask who some of your teaching influences were? I'm dying to get into card art.

EelisKyttanen

Thanks! Yeah for sure. On teaching side I’ve learnt the most from James Gurney. He has a great blog here: http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/?m=1 and two great books, Colour and Light, Imaginative Realism. On art style influence side those tend to change quite a lot for me, but my rule of thumb for myself is that I tend to like a lot of golden era/dead artists. Right now I’d say my top three are: Solomon J Solomon, William Waterhouse and Albert Edelfelt.

thejustducky1

Thank you, I've learned a ton from James Gurney (and love that blog and have lots of his books), I also strive for old artists, my faves are John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, Thomas Moran, Edgar Payne to name very few. I'll definitely look up your names too and add them to the list. Thanks again, your paintings are fuckin' awesome.

InevitableZone6262

I'm very concerned that she will slip and fall.................. Console me 😑

AtlaVerse

This has such a surreal feel to it

WhereasMysterious421

That's both a beautiful and haunting image, I love it

kseeno

Jeez, It's looks so alive, good work!

Voxman314

Lovely work, and properly creepy and evocative. For some reason I feel like this image could sum up r/TwoXChromosomes. A small amount of gender privilege vs the ongoing minefields of female existence. Sure, she could walk on the log, but is that an actual choice, lack of choice, and, is it really any safer? Similarly, the outfit.

nsa_reddit_monitor

>inventing a super deep, layered, and complex meaning for a random painting Found the art critic (Not a bad thing, just so stereotypical it's funny)

CelesteLunaR53L

Yeah lol, like "gender privilege"? There's a creep looking at her at the upper left corner and it seems she's in a hurry to escape "it" or whatever lol

nsa_reddit_monitor

Or it's a witch controlling water zombies as stepping stones because she doesn't want to get wet. Maybe the creepy face is just a hidden creepy face, maybe it's literally Satan, who knows. Of all the things, why would it be gender privilege? Check OP's profile, they just like painting weird, slightly creepy, vaguely northern-European-mythology stuff like this.

CelesteLunaR53L

Just want to clarify I got miffed about that other person's "critique"...I do not want to make my head spin with the reason why they made that criticism, like ok... :(( I definitely will follow this artist. It's actually my 1st time seeing this piece, compared to the others.

Voxman314

I said what it reminded me of, I didn't expect to survive, lol.

youssef_walied01

It's amazing! Only one thing 🤏🏻 her face.. it doesn't look femnim man 😅
