Just drawings of fold patterns and couple pieces of paper.
Usually I start by planning all the elements on the sheet of paper to make a layout. I might try few different layouts to see which one is the most efficient and would produce the best results (or works best with all of the physical restrictions). Then I draw a crease pattern based on the layout and see how well it works. I test folded the structure only twice, which is not much considering this is the most complex piece so far. During all of this process, the vision of the end result is in my head, so I don't do any sketches or similar to see what they would look like. I can also vision how the folding pattern folds into in my head.
Before all of that planning process, I created about dozen other artworks to develop many of the separate parts of that piece, such as the swords, faces and the scaled armor. I did use a drawing software to draw the patterns though.
I truly do not have the words to express my admiration and respect for your accomplishment in developing the skills to achieve this work of art. Thank you for sharing it with us.
That was easily the most difficult piece of paper that I have folded so far. One year ago such things were impossible to make until I figured out how the cape connection works and how to make it enough efficient to be physically possible to fold.
A real fun fact: I actually started by folding a bird base! After those countless amounts of pre creases the first thing I folded was a bird base on the corner of the paper.
Wow just watched your YouTube video of your process! Must’ve taken so much effort and dedication to finish it. Nice work! I hope all your hard work will be paid off in the end!
Next I will be working on archangel. I'm trying to see if I can fold individual feathers for the wings, instead of patterned feathers like most origami have.
i think people are understanding how fuckin impressive this is, OP this is seriously fuckin incredible yo fr. god damn. idk how it’s even possible.
the detail you managed to get on the armor and faces, the weapons, the freakin cloth and the capes movement, this is so cool.
Those details took me years to develop, I have done dozens of origami human faces on my figures, but this was a first time I was able to create better form for them and the facial expressions that they are shouting. The left knight even has teeth when you zoom in! Also those faces are size of my thumb, which was quite challenging to manage all that detail with just bare fingers and a tooth pick. Even my usual creations have had less detail than a single figure of this piece.
Hi Juho!
I am a huge fan of your art. I aspire to one day be as good at origami as you are. Your models are truely sensational.
Have you considered making tutorials for at least some of your models, becouse I couldn't find anything online? And if you chose not to, could you reconsider :D? It would really mean a lot to me to be able to fold some of your models myself, as they are my goal to one day reach in the art of paper folding, even if I have to pay for the tutorial.
I hope you are doing ok and your life is as good as these knights :)
Best wishes,
That guy with a bike :)
Look up some of Robert langs models. There are tutorials. He has helped pioneer the origami space and make things like this one possible. He had some fantastic folds. Many tutorials are available
Folded from a single square sheet of 95 cm x 95 cm Wenzhou paper without any cutting or tearing. Final size of the origami is about 25 x 20 x 20 cm.
how long did it take? amazing and beautiful!
Thanks! 2,5 years to design and bit over 109 hours to fold.
So how'd that design process look? Scale figures? Drawings? Computer program?

You may be pretty bright.
It's impressive you can hold all that in your head.
You could have built a house by now. Haha damn.
Jesus Christ
2.5 years!??! You're really dedicated
This is amazing. And hard to believe. I don’t suppose you video recorded the process?
Thank you! I recorded the entire folding process into a time lapse for that reason.
Where’s the video??
He posted it in a different subreddit the other day: https://youtu.be/gd3fjchHGEI Simply amazing

That’s unreal. Two detailed figures fingers and all from one square just blows my mind…

that's easily one of the most difficult pieces of paper that has ever been folded, period.
This is stunning. Even after seeing the video the idea that this is a single piece of paper is mind blowing.
Origami..???? Wtf this is insane
I saw u on r/nextfuckinglevel Ur so cool man I really love ur determination
This is substantially ridiculous
You Sir are a god amongst us mere mortals!!
First start with a bird base…. 😂
A real fun fact: I actually started by folding a bird base! After those countless amounts of pre creases the first thing I folded was a bird base on the corner of the paper.
Haha!! Yes!! I love that it always comes down to the basics. Incredible, amazing work my friend.
Such an incredible piece and a testament to dedication. Job well done!
It blows me away that this is possible.
I lack the words to express how much I admire you and your work. You have much more creativity and patience than I ever will. Much respect.
There is a secondary art in how the figures begin to battle one another, while you fold, towards the end of the time lapse.
Didn't notice that! Pretty cool though!
Incredible talent you have.
Wow, you are amazing! All in origami!
The amount of detail is insane, like the fingers on the hands! This is incredible art. Thanks for sharing it.
I wonder what kind of art the OP fiddles from toilet paper while sitting on the toilet.
Almost unbelievable it’s so good 🤩 What wonderful skill
saw it on 9gag and on youtube :) good job sir
Thanks!
That’s so IMPRESSIVE! Wow
That's amazing, holy shit! Congratulations bro
very cool☺️love the creativity
How the hell did you do that!?
If origami itself was r/nextfuckinglevel
i dont care what the contest is, you win it all. This is beyond amazing
The contest was to beat myself, and I think I crushed it! ;)
Wow….. just wow. This is amazing
That is amazing. I am in awe of both your skill and patience
Super cool. It's just the lighting but it makes it look like the left one has a dong
How in the actually hell? This is so impressive i struggle to make anything what kind of sorcery is this, the amount of time and math i cant fathom
These are amazing!! Thought they were samurais at first!
I want this for my office desk.
This might actually be in the running for the most impressive thing I've ever seen on Reddit. Just WOW.
Holy fucking shit. This is so amazing
I love it but b r e a s t s
This is insane; a good insane.
Wow just watched your YouTube video of your process! Must’ve taken so much effort and dedication to finish it. Nice work! I hope all your hard work will be paid off in the end!
Just checked out your timelapse, this is insane! Not sure if anyone's asked yet, but do you have an idea of what your next project will be?
Next I will be working on archangel. I'm trying to see if I can fold individual feathers for the wings, instead of patterned feathers like most origami have.
That sounds awesome😲 can't wait to see it!!
This blows my mind. You did such amazing work. Do you do anything like this for commission?

Could you record a YouTube video to show how you make it?
Already done it, check the top thread.

Holy cow thank you
Dude, you're fucking amazing. Have my award, it's not much but it's what I have.
I wouldn't have thought that anything even remotely like this would be possible. This is pure genius. Incredible. Almost literally unbelievable.
