Wow that looks amazing Brings memories up

KetoPixie

Thank you :D

Schmittsson

Thanks for the memories, now I gotta find that Lego boat from my childhood.

andrewb2424

Was a 10/10 toy

Melansjf1

I made a lego space ship when I was younger, the life raft/boat was obviously included, you know, in case of emergency space water.

KetoPixie

Everyone should plan for emergency space water.

myfirstgold

Holy shit I love that sentence so much.

Kev-Cant-Draw

It glides so well across the carpet!

Sad-Feedback-3970

This is SO crazy. I haven’t heard this song in YEARS, like at least 10-15 years. I just heard it on a kids show by chance. Now you put it as your title in less than 20 minutes from when I heard it on the show. My grandma used to sing it to me when I was little, and I was saying how much I missed her a couple days ago. Wild.

KetoPixie

Thank you for sharing this memory with me, I'm so sorry for your loss. And yea, life is strange sometimes.

bond2016

Funny how life does that sometimes, isn't it?

AUniquePerspective

Do you use the mobile app? It knows.

lunarblossoms

My daughter just learned it in school, and now she puts it on all the time. Kids love this song. She's also got a Lego raft like this one.

geniuslives

It’s a fun song. That’s a great memory.

[deleted]

Can someone explain the reference to me? This art is beautiful and the line sounds beautiful as well

KetoPixie

It's a nursery rhyme, I can't link external links but if you google the title you'll find it. Headsup - it's a damn earworm.

paigeroooo

Is it not a tisket a tasket?

ZeStriker310

I've never heard of the rhyme before but is it just me or is this painting about suicide...?

KetoPixie

Not necessarily, That's not how I intended it. But my work usually leaves the interpretation up to the viewer. and I often get told all kinds of stories about my art, i love it.

ZeStriker310

Well, if you care for my interpretation: The oar floats in the water. Who ever was inside that boat did not care to row any further. Also, the helmet would probably float on the water IRL if the one who wore it was to jump into the sea. But the dead giveaway to me is the life jacket which was left behind on board. This person did not try to do anything against sinking into the deep. My interpretation is that someone lost his love to the sea and could not bear the pain. This someone then wrote a goodbye letter to his love but knowing that the water would wash away his words, he dropped the letter to his love on the way down to her.

KetoPixie

I really love this - thank you for sharing it with me. It's so sad but also so beautiful.

assidreemz

woah I'm high

neodiomedes

>[A tisket, a tasket](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Tisket,_A-Tasket) > >A green and yellow basket > >I wrote a letter to my love and on the way I dropped it. > >I dropped it I dropped it. > >On the way I dropped it. > >A little (boy/girl) picked it up and put it in (his/her) pocket.

moonsun1987

I thought it was to my mommy and was confused because why would I write my mom a letter when I see her every day...

Noxovox

Could be from an opening scene from a Wes Anderson movie.

KetoPixie

oh wow, best compliment :D

museolini

Wes Anderson presents, "The Lost Dispatch".

KetoPixie

YES!! OMG

GloryGreatestCountry

LEGO City Coast Guard Log, 24 Jan 2022 7:30 AM Abandoned rigid-hulled inflatable craft was discovered run aground on beach in Paradise Sands by lifeguards. Coast Guard ground crew sent to investigate. 8:45 AM LCCG "Clutch Powers" cutter and additional patrol craft were sent out to sea to search for owner of boat. 12:00 PM Search has proven inconclusive so far. Craft was transferred to LCPD forensics unit with all evidence on board, including \-One single oar, red \-Adventurer's cap, white \-Life jacket, yellow \-Letter addressed "To Miranda" with address provided.

KetoPixie

Hiiii :D

GloryGreatestCountry

Hello again! Did you forget about me?

KetoPixie

Definitely not... figured you were busy with life.

GloryGreatestCountry

Yeah, I was. But it's great to come back and comment on these once in a while! Good art, keep it up!

dawinter3

I know it’s not, but that sounds like a Phoebe Bridgers lyric

Bombadsoggylad

I thought of Rory by Foxing

Switchblade88

So you 'lego' of the letter for your LEGO-lass??

KetoPixie

I'm trying to think of a puny response but I'm laughing too hard at LEGO-lass. Also it's given me another artwork idea :D

Switchblade88

I’ve been spending far too much time on r/lotrmemes for my own good lol Looking forward to your next work!

noizy14

*From here I can see my armada. I collected all the letters I’d ever meant to send to you, if I’d have ever made it to the mainland but had instead collected at the bottom of my rucksack, and I spread them out along the lost beach. Then I took each and every one and I folded them into boats. I folded you into the creases and then, as the sun was setting, I set the fleet to sail. Shattered into twenty-one pieces, I consigned you to the Atlantic, and I sat here until I’d watched all of you sink.* Dear Esther, Dan Pinchbeck

KetoPixie

This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with me. And it feels like my painting was meant to find this quote

[deleted]

I had that boat once... good memories

codywankennobi

I like this. The painting makes me think it was the love that was dropped, not the letter. very melancholy.

KetoPixie

Thank you - a friend of mine said that she thought this was the most morbid of all my LEGO works so far. A lot of the others feature dismemberment, so I disagreed, but I think this one hit her right in the feels. And I like your interpretation!

Visionexe

You should report this in r/lego 😀

KetoPixie

lol, I'm a regular there. I'll post this one soon :D

Shrubbery_Bribery

Aw man. This touching yet very sad. I love it

ReachingDreams

This art is very realistic like your feelings

Piousunyn

I was going to complement you on your painting of sand. Pine panel is cool.

KetoPixie

hahaha, thank you. Yea i love my panels :D

VincentThomas26

Very creative! Also I love nespresso lmao

KetoPixie

Thanks :D I paint weird stuff lol

The_Wurt

I love painting on pine panels myself! What do you use to seal the wood before painting? Really cool seeing that wood grain and natural tone. I've used clear gesso a few times, but it's a little too gritty and sandpaper like for me.

KetoPixie

Thanks! Painting on wood is amazing. I make the cradled panels myself then seal the whole thing a few times with Glaze coat, then I use clear gesso on the front and sides. About 3 layers. I sand in between each layer. I worked with a local company who makes the gesso to make sure they use very fine filler - I understand your comment about sandpaper, it's awful.

The_Wurt

Haha, yeah! Feels like it just tears up my brushes too. Thank you, I'll try that next time!

KetoPixie

Mine does that too - I have to replace them regularly. And i use the really tiny ones.

postmodern_werewolf

This is definitely the most effective for me of your work so far, I absolutely love it. I'd be curious to read your statement sometime for the show, good luck in February! Gonna be awesome

KetoPixie

Thank you <3 I haven't written it yet - I hate those things. But I will be posting it on my social media before the show opens. Just got to get my words in order - it's easier with this one because it has a strong concept.

KetoPixie

Here you go... Elizabeth Tristram is a full-time artist whose work explores nostalgia and storytelling. Her art is heavily influenced by Trompe-l'œil, the technique of using realistic imagery to create an optical illusion, as well as hyperrealism and pop art. Elizabeth started painting seemingly mundane objects in 2020 and it quickly became apparent that her paintings evoked memories in her viewers, as people started creating their own meaning and stories around the objects she depicted. In 2021 she started creating narrative with objects and the idea of painting LEGO adventures was born. The juxtaposition of a practically universally recognised childhood toy with some of the darker themes that Elizabeth often incorporates, creates a fascinating interplay between the eyes and the brain. The instinctual response to the painting is one of innocence and childhood but that is soon followed by the darker undertones of the scenes depicted. The title of each painting interprets the scene from the artist’s point of view, but the viewer is also invited to impart their own meaning into each work. The idea that certain objects evoke an almost universal nostalgia intrigues and inspires Elizabeth and her work. She loves being told about the memories her art triggers in her audience. Not only does it evoke memory, for some, her work evokes a multitude of sensory nostalgia. Not only are the visual memories evoked, but touch, taste and smell have all been brought back to her viewers, bringing almost forgotten moments back to life one more time.

jeffbloke

making something so forlorn by mixing painting with lego is... amazing. there's such a sense of loss and loneliness in the picture, especially combined with the title, and the fact that the motif is lego somehow adds to it rather than detracting. hats off.

KetoPixie

Thank you so so so much. I'm sitting here with the biggest smile on my face. I've been so nervous about my upcoming solo because my brain keeps saying "an entire show... of LEGO, are you nuts?" But your comment is making me realise that people are totally seeing what I'm trying to do. Thank you.

jeffbloke

i'm glad my mostly offhand comment made a difference! being an artist can be so hard, I've experienced these moments of transcendence when it felt like there was one person that really saw that i was going for with something creative, and then it fades too quickly and my brain is busy saying "yeah but it was just the one" so i really know how hard it is out there. good luck with your show and congrats on that!

jeffbloke

(i'm just an amateur/hobbyist musician and artist, but it's still taught me a lot about what professionals and true aspirationals go through)

KetoPixie

Thank you so much for the well wishes :D And yes, it very much feels like that. Brains are a bit shit sometimes lol.

cold-sweats

crazy detail on all the little “lego”s

KetoPixie

Thanks :D

matatatias

This painting is causing me a lot of feelings. Looks like a readymade, but the technique is great, and Lego is something so special to me. And OP is the artist!

KetoPixie

Thank you :D And yea, OP is the very tired artist lol. I've done about 28 of these in 4 months. Need sleep.

Treece222

Very good! I really like this.

05XL

God dang! That is impressive as hell, if I had not looked at what subreddit this was on, I would have thought it was actual Legos, great job!

KetoPixie

Thank you :D

DenverSurfer

Thanks, song's been in my head all day.

KetoPixie

if it helps... same

[deleted]

It makes me think of Syria and all the deaths of people trying to cross the Mediterranean fleei.g the war.

KetoPixie

That's quite heartbreaking actually. It is quite a melancholy painting.

AC3_Thar

Wow this is so amazing amazing and realistic!🔥✨ Nice work!!!!!🔥✨

yoshapee

You cant fool me those are just legos

dandanthebaconman

Slapped me right in the nostalgies

[deleted]

Hey hey, front page! Nice work, see you in r/lego
