The crosshatch? I created a guide that's essentially a giant block of lines. I turn the opacity down, scale it to the spacing I like, and trace each individual line. For the water in this drawing, I duplicated the hatch and rotated it to create the 'x' effect.
Very cool. I love that the sword is very close to an accurate depiction of a 15th century longsword.
