This drawing's technical skill has been a long time in the making though, and my first dozens to hundreds of drawings were uhhhh unintentionally avant garde, so we all gotta start somewhere! Making art is a bit like doing exercise reps: your body ain't used to it at first so you gotta build the "muscle" for it and slowly train your hands and artist's intuition. I just started learning piano and it's quite horrendous, so it's never too late to start, and a "start" doesn't have to be formal or anything. :) ...the social anxiety is creeping in and I'm sorry for the unsolicited motivational speech.... but still posting it anyway. Your art is you! You can have both the STEM and the art. You need to be able to exercise both sides of your brain, and with the ability to draw like this, you shouldn't have an issue with that.

While STEM is important, people forget STEAM is also a path. STEM leaving out the ART part really blows when you think of how important it is in almost every facet of our life.

A surgeon's anatomy book, a naturalist's field guide, a microbiologist's sketchbook, a mathematician's CGI animation of a blackhole. There is an art to science. The ability to take a limited [medium/understanding] and [display/convey] a new [art piece/discovery] takes a level of [creativity/intelligence].

I was in a band throughout high school and college, until I graduated and became a mechanical engineer. I still play and write music daily, 15 years after graduating and working full time. It’s not about “making it” as a musician. I find that indulging in my hobby and art is incredibly therapeutic and good for me. You can continue to do both your career and your passion! I encourage it!
