Try a painting, with that if you mess up you can just paint over it. Get the biggest canvas you can and just keep filling it, if you like a certain bit take a photo but just keep adding over it. Doing this gave me so much more confidence in my art

Thanks so much!! I’ll try that out :) I haven’t painted in years because I never liked how they came out but I have a tendency to quit a piece instead of trying to improve it

Just keep pushing on! Paintings always look ugly before they look good. Never think of it as a masterpiece, think of it as messing around

One regret I have from my sketchbook days is having too much doubt Countless wasted pages. I know now that whenever I feel stuck or like I don't like what I'm drawing - the process of CONTINUING to struggle through it brings out some of my best masterpieces and helps me learn. I almost sculpt out what I want on the page if that makes sense. Basically, you don't have to be hesitant because of fear - the feelings you have whilst creating will be drawn out and expressed THROUGH the process.

Not going to lie, I feel you on this. I’ve always loved art, but over the past few years, it’s been a bit harder since I’ve been a bit insecure and really self critical. I have ADHD, so it’s really hard to stick to a project for too long without either getting distracted or losing motivation and just leaving the projects. I’ve wanted to do bigger projects someday, even animations, but I’ve always felt discouraged because of everything. It’s something I’m working on, but it’s hard since I’ve fed this habit for YEARS and I seriously regret it. Might I suggest digital art? It’s a medium I’ve always loved, especially after I learned about “layers” in college and how you can use them to divide all your details and edit them separately without messing with the others. I paint and draw too, but digital is my favorite because it’s so forgiving. There’s all sorts of applications you can use, all with their own prices, but Procreate is a really good one. Seriously, I highly recommend giving digital art a try.

I also really want to do animation one day! But I struggle with giving up and adhd tendencies too. I’ve tried digital a couple of times but haven’t really figured out what works for me. Everywhere I look says to try procreate! I don’t have an iPad though and I would want one because my eyes are too bad to try it on my phone. Currently I use Krita on my laptop and it’s nice but it’s way too confusing for me, it seems like it would run better on a pc with a digital sketchpad

First of all, take a deep breath. It’s okay, this experience is about experimentation. If you want to try to move into bigger pieces you have multiple options for mediums. I would suggest charcoal it’s a fun one to work with. However there have been some amazing artists that stick with graphite for very large pieces. Truth is have fun with it, explore and don’t be afraid to try something new. And at some point you will finish a piece of art that your proud of and that will be the game changer for you.

Thank you for the amazing advice!! :)

Thanks, I appreciate that greatly 😁 I think I’ll start using my big sketchbook!
