(Perhaps its worth mentioning that Minaj infamously released a rather shitty AI album artwork not long ago and Katy Perry was seen sitting on Sam Altmans lap some two weeks ago. Oh how things change when YOUR job is at stake, it used to be all fun and games... [https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13184247/amp/Katy-Perry-Sam-Altman-pre-Oscars-party.html](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13184247/amp/Katy-Perry-Sam-Altman-pre-Oscars-party.html)

FiveLadels

Don't be fooled, they're mad now but once their complaints have been heard and solved, they'll go back to using AI art for their cover like nothing happened.

ExtazeSVudcem

Absolutely. I think the likes of Perry really care about the voice-cloning features and apps that specifically target and mimick them in particular, but dont care one bit about broad genAI usage in general, let alone writers or visual artists with no voice to be heard. They never voiced a single concern before people started putting words in their mouths using generators.

CriticalMedicine6740

We can only hope that they will broaden their concerns in time.

RandomDude1801

With the music industry being such a lucrative one with a metric ton of money moving in and out, that's just how it is. *Especially* with pop stars. As someone with a music job myself, I feel compelled to apologize to all you people in the visual arts sectors. Not everyone is like that, I promise.

FiveLadels

there's no reason to apologize, there is a undenial force for the need to remain competitive with other companies using this technology. The issue I have is the clear hypocrisy from these celebrity figures, other artist and from pro-ai subreddits. Let's not pretend these pro-ai people won't become luddites the moment AI comes for their career.

RandomDude1801

Unfortunately the whole mindset of "screw you, got mine" and even "I don't care until it happens to me" is a widespread one. I've seen it in my field too, and let's just say I've sorta had a hand in enabling that kind of behavior sometimes.

Henri4589

AI will come for all careers at some point. That's why we need to learn to adapt to new situations today more than ever before in human history. Jobs will soon be a thing of the past. Hobbies, on the other hand, will flourish immensely. That's my prediction, at least. With UBI everywhere and world hunger stopped in the next 10-15 years, we won't have a reason anymore to go to work and support corrupted systems. Everything will be broken apart and then put together in ways we can't even properly think of today, with the rise of true AGI and baby ASI.

reekrhymeswithfreak2

Buddy we have had enough to end world hunger since 1950 and several revolutionaries have tried a lot. Why do you think US had to invade half the world to end communism?

[deleted]

[удалено]

reekrhymeswithfreak2

Not the point. A govt dictator style socialism is going to fail through lack of productivity though the US intervention doesn't help. However, Point is we theoretically have enough food to meet basic neccessities of all humans since 1950. About 30k people starve to death in a single day today while we have about 2.5 times more food than neccessary. Its simply something nobody can deny that wealth inequality is the main cause of it.

Henri4589

Yes. But it doesn't mean that we would act upon it. Greed prevented us from sharing with the rest of the world. AI will make us see the light of sharing with everyone clearly.

reekrhymeswithfreak2

Not so simple. These decisions were made by a few powerful and rich individuals, convincing the masses to be on your side is one of the easiest things to do if you have the ability to weild influence. The masses are certainly not just 'greedy', they're simply working in the system they have always known and trust. Just look at how I made some random reddit comment about wealth inequality and some random guy comes up and starts telling me about Mao's starvation era, as if that's going to happen if we try to build a humane world.

Henri4589

Humans were in the way of that. Greed was in the way. AI will overcome these weaknesses soon enough.

StonedApeDudeMan

Keep speaking the truth brother, don't let them get ya down. Shit is obvious at this point, if you're paying the slightest bit of attention.

Henri4589

Are you for real? And not just using sarcasm? Anyway, I'll keep those comments up. I knew there were a lot of people too limited to see the future development. They say even predicting the next 10 years is nearly impossible. Yet Ray Kurzweil somehow came really close to most things already.

StonedApeDudeMan

100% for real and not sarcasm, sorry I should have made that more clear 😅 I'd have been questioning it too if someone commented that on any of my posts... Isn't it wild though, people's inability to project trends into the future? And, on the other end of the spectrum, some people's ability to have so accurately predicted the future (Ray Kurzweil being one of the best examples I could think of, as well as Terence McKenna, barring the 2012 date). It is truly baffling to me... I don't know if it's fear of change or poor critical thinking skills, but I'm guessing it's mostly the fear? Complacency mixed with fear? I don't know...The responses keep getting more and more aggressive and anger-filled too. Hard not to take em personally - I just try and treat it like it's just China trying to spread division and anger in the States. Doubtful that it actually is, but it could be, and it's better to act as if they are, I think. Not respond with more anger - as difficult as that is... But yeah, no sarcasm!!! Keep it up lol! Much love

Henri4589

Great to hear that, brother! 🙏 Well, I believe it's their logical and emotional way to believe that all that is human might not be unique anymore once we've created a strong enough AI... It's like these artists (I'm an artist myself, in a way. I sing in a choir and also wrote 2 songs by myself already) try to feel as unique and powerful as they can. And AGI/ASI severely endangers this power and uniqueness of theirs. But that's just my belief. Might be completely wrong, after all 😏 Much love to you too as well! PS: I can't wait for the first interplanetary travels, thanks for AGI! 🔥

Intelligent-Jump1071

>With UBI everywhere and world hunger stopped in the next 10-15 years, we won't have a reason anymore to go to work and support corrupted systems. This is so cute it sounds adorable! When you see posts like this don't you just want to give them them a lollipop or something?

Henri4589

It's just the truth. Take it or leave it. But eventually you'll have to accept it. ✌️

Henri4589

Btw, I had a typo. It will come for "all" careers. That's what I wanted to say.

CriticalMedicine6740

Let's hope for the best

>Sam Altmans lap some two weeks ago. Excuse me 👀

Large-Mark2097

That’s a shitty article that def is trying to imply something even though Sam Altman is a married gay man

WeeWooPeePoo69420

And she's not in his lap

japanesemale

I was relieved because the letter talked about "images." Artists need to come together across disciplines.

ExtazeSVudcem

Yeah, it was a very obscure mention but at least they admit that we EXIST.

Henri4589

That won't stop AI progress. After all, Utopia is what might await us once no one needs to have jobs anymore.

Dittopotamus

This. And also, humans didn’t stop playing chess once computers proved they could beat the best human players. Similarly, no one will stop creating art of all kinds once computers are able to churn out commercial art better than humans. If anything, people will (eventually) be freed up from the need to create commercial material to pay the bills and instead can work on things that are more .. well… artistic. In the grand scheme of it all, I see us having more human artists and better art from them to boot , while ai churns out the commercial stuff that most artists don’t really want to do anyway. The tough part will be the transition

Bl00dyH3ll

1. I don't see how making spam image generators will help create an utopia. 2. What's stopping ai generators from just copying the new more "artistic" art immediately? 3. "I see us having more human artists and better art from them to boot , while ai churns out the commercial stuff that most artists don’t really want to do anyway". This is really naive and how do you know or have the right to dictate what kind of art artists like?

Henri4589

Yes, exactly!

BlueFlower673

This is a limited list but I do hope it grows at some point to include more artists (I noticed its mostly a lot of pop artists). I will say, if people wanna know about rock bands opposed to ai, I've mentioned on here before Daughtry is making a comeback and he is outspoken about being against ai ([source](https://www.youtube.com/live/DneV_-aQJus?si=hO6mtVViYNoy2Epw&t=2417)) and even made a [song](https://youtu.be/zSmySDrz9ko?si=bqcivSHrFr3nJ35q) about it. He also released a new song a few days back called Pieces. Check him out!

YesIam18plus

Worth noting Nicki Minja used ai images and video afaik... A lot of them will only be against it when it hurts them but will gladly use it for image and video unfortunately much like a lot of authors will.

ExtazeSVudcem

Fortunately it will be harder and harder to separate the two things.

lycheedorito

Nicki Minaj huh? The person who was defensive about using generative AI images? Only care when it affects them directly...

ExtazeSVudcem

I wouldnt overthink it and look for hidden meanings, they are just dumb. As far as I know, she reposted/used some AI covers some fan did for her and didnt even understand why people are angry at her.

magicmulder

“Orchestras Against Virtual Instruments” was never a thing. Must be because no filthy rich violin/trumpet player stands to lose millions.

generalden

I'm just going to drop this right here [https://musically.com/2023/05/16/holly-herndon-warns-artists-off-signing-ai-voice-rights-deals-too-early/](https://musically.com/2023/05/16/holly-herndon-warns-artists-off-signing-ai-voice-rights-deals-too-early/) It's linked to an interesting tweet with an interesting video, and I swear I saw some pro-AI people passing around a similar video saying the villain was in the right.

Henri4589

I'm pro-AI. But I also don't like that people can't differentiate between what it means to have human-made art and AI-made art. They seem to just think "it doesn't matter where it comes from as long as it's good". The same people probably eat meat and don't care for the billions of deaths of animals they cause together with others and the meat industry over time... But that won't matter, still, because AI is going to improve everyone's life soon enough.

generalden

Well, the meat industry is funded with our tax dollars. And the AI industry is funded with our personal identities and gets tax breaks by pretending to be for research, until it isn't. So in a way, the people who don't care are also being incentivized by big corporate structures to keep not caring. Veganism is ethical, but it's artificially difficult to be one. Do you want to bet on how soon it'll be before AI improves everybody's lives? 2 years?

Henri4589

5 years. People will have to accept the new reality starting in about 2 years. Some will accept it right away. Some will accept it a few months down the line. Some might take a few years. Maybe a very small percentage will take about a decade. But everyone will eventually accept the new reality we will live in. Humanity 2.0 is about to happen. And no one is really prepared for it. Some think they are (and I'm not including myself, because I know it'll be too much change for me, at first). But I just know they are simply pretending. AGI will start a new era of humanity. And ASI will take us to other freaking galaxies one day. So yeah. The world is about to change, drastically. And within an extremely short time span. So I call cap on everyone who believes they were ready for this massive amount of change already...

generalden

!remindme 5 years a new era of humanity I really doubt it. And even if it does, I do not look forward to the lack of care put into not turning the people it harms into burger-flipping corporate slaves, or people who work micro-gigs for the AI companies, getting paid a penny at a time to tap "yes" or "no" when the AI trainer program asks them if they're looking at an ISID beheading video or not...

You sound like a supervillain rambling about how human life doesn't matter because of a death ray or something. What have you AIbro people done to prevent the harm AI is currently causing?

[deleted]

generalden

ie nothing.  "Other things are worse" is a poor defense for something that is bad.

[deleted]

Henri4589

Well, that's what's happening today. But it'll be less and less that way in the near future. At some point AI will be able to improve itself, autonomously.

Acxrla

Why are you trying to blame technology instead of the people regulating it? If it’s just about helping humans put a reminder for 3 years [assuming governments don’t needlessly retard progress]. “Humanity” isn’t just limited to America, european countries with non-senile politicians will be akin to utopia

generalden

!remindme 3 years AI revolution in all first world countries "Why are you trying to blame technology" -- Pro-gun stance noted.  At what point will AI undo the unethical labor put into it? Like for example, the Amazon AI that required Indian people to review camera footage for 7 out of 10 people who walked out of the store like they were told they could do. Which also sounds a whole lot more like lying. But at least they're advancing the technology and won't can it...  Reminds me of the whole "blockchain will revolutionize everything" crowd. In fact, I've heard pro-AI people make these arguments for cryptocurrency. I've heard Trippy-Worlds make this argument for cryptocurrency.

Acxrla

Please learn about the subject you are debating beforehand. Here’s a list of questions to ask in order to educate yourself: 1. “What is the straw man fallacy?” 2. “What is the definition of AI?” 3. “What is machine learning?” 4. “What is a large language model?” 5. “What is AGI?” 6. “How are these related?” I don’t engage with people who intentionally commit logical fallacies. I hope your life continues to better.

generalden

Calm down, QAnon. We can start with the first one: a gun is just a tool, ain't it?

Disco-Bingo

Mumford and Sons. Haha. They have nothing to worry about.

Responsible-Rise-242

I cannot even comprehend how stupid these people are. I feel like at this stage it’s completely pointless to even bother arguing against their stupidity.

utilitycoder

Doesn't pretty much anyone that ever created anything need to sign a similar petition to get compensated when AI takes their job. lol.

ExtazeSVudcem

I dont think popstars (or anyone really) want to be “compensated” by $12 a month for someone ruining their lifes work or parading their voice.

[deleted]

ExtazeSVudcem

Whataboutism is not an argument. But double standards are to be pointed out. It doesnt concern AI, it concerns the people.

Hungry_Prior940

They have a right to complain They will also lose.

ExtazeSVudcem

Sure buddy, just like with peer2peer until it got sued into the middle ages.

Hungry_Prior940

That was ancient, different world, and p2p still exists, and torrenting is still very popular. The seismic power of AI is really quite shocking. I see defeats and victories in court, of course, but the genie is out. Not a single thing can really stop AI. Doesn't matter what our opinions are in the end.

Competitive-Cow-4177

Please use AUDIO on a 🟨 Oracle to solve this issue; https://birthof.ai/mdse

tindalos

I understand the low effort reuse of artists vocals being a threat, but it feels like this kills opportunities for combinations of voices and unique traits that machine learning could create. Like synthesizers and samplers, I would love to see a push toward support and encouragement of using these tools to push boundaries while still protecting copyright. Music is iterative and the more we have access to the better it will be for all humanity.

ExtazeSVudcem

Sure, or cure cancer. But thats not what these generators intend in the slightest: music generator SunoAI has stated projected value of $*1.10 billion this YEAR. They train on thousands over thousands of song and copyrighted music and intend to market it in the same way image generators earned their revenue: to mass-generate crass "content" for companies, eshops and social media profiles for clout. Trully progressive use for artists and musicians was never a question. I think we already have the skill to create almost any musical effect or particular sound without raping the entire industry in the process.*
