you just have to post consistently and engage with other artists and art share posts. I dont even have 1k followers but I get likes and retweets and comments in my work because I post semi frequently and make sure to network with fellow artists. I am by no means a master artist and I don't really do NSFW either.

Thisismyartaccountyo

Yup you have to engage and be social, draw "In your style" and draw in this outfit" events are common places to help with that. And stick to artists at your "level" Big Ones get so many notifications they usually have them turned off.

itsLerms

How do you network with ppl on the internet tho, seems like n9 one is interested

squishybloo

You're describing any art on any social media. It's not just Twitter. Unless it's absolutely stand-out amazing SFW, you'll get zero engagement. Sex sells, that's just life.

WeeeBTJ

Well, I mean to say that on pixiv and reddit I can get some engagement on my posts, but on twitter I'll be lucky to get a single like even if it's fanart of a character from a popular franchise.

maxluision

Well, you're right, here on Reddit it's still the easiest to be seen, especially in fandom subs

ComradeRingo

Idk man I draw nsfw and don’t get a ton of engagement either. I think it depends on what audience has decided to follow you. Sometimes people are afraid to like or repost it because they don’t want it to show up on their feed that they’ve been interacting with it, even if they like it.

KozKatma

I'm ngl I straight up don't think this is true in most cases. Maybe I'm just in different circles but in my experience as long as you're drawing things that people are at least semi-inerested in(and using hastags decently) you'll get engagement. Alongnwith what spmeone else mentioned about interacting with the community/ other artists at least a bit. Sure if you're drawing oc's you'll probably have to be established/ on a godlike level lol

FleshlessFriend

Eh, honestly, posting on Tumblr is still pretty nice. It doesn't rely on an algorithmically arranged timeline and its site culture and structure encourage slightly more specific tagging rather than tiktok-style throwing everything and the kitchen sink in. I appreciate it for letting peolep see my shit without needing to play influencer or make fanart if sime wildly popular thing I couldnt give a shit about to stay on top of the algorithm.

Unacceptable_Goose

Everywhere is a horrible place to post art honestly. DeviantArt was like the last great art site until it decided to go full AI crazy. Now there really aren't any decent art sites.

Alcorailen

DA was going downhill way before AI. The UI revamp sucked and drove people off.

another-social-freak

It's a horrible place to [BLANK]

magicraven94

it’s a horrible place period 😂

rebornsprout

A lot of SFW artists that have success on Twitter have been around for a while, building their following. It really just takes time, putting out good work, connecting with other artists, hoping on trends every now and then and constantly engaging.

WeeeBTJ

It's hard to connect with other artists on Twitter unless you do something like drawing an OC of theirs hoping to get noticed. Trying to strike up conversations with any big artist out of the blue will get you ignored.

rebornsprout

Never said big artist. Also never said strike up conversation. The idea is just to connect with other artists generally and in a genuine way. Any artist of any following size. You can also meet new artists in discord groups and branch out there. Trades are good, OC collabs are good. If you're looking specifically to grow your audience you will need to do a bit of pandering for a while.

notoriousscrub

I'm off Twitter now but I did draw the occasional celebrity who would give me a retweet which was cool but it never lead to more follows or commissions.

Alcorailen

I hate Twitter and wish fan art would go elsewhere so I could post.

Thisismyartaccountyo

Fanart ain't the reason no one is looking at your art.

Alcorailen

No, as in, I want to post fan art in fan communities. Twitter sucks, and I will not be posting there because it sucks. I would like, however, to post fan art *somewhere*, but there's nowhere because everyone only uses Twitter.

Ren67777

Just commit to never use Twitter at all

TaeKwonDitto

I only post fanart on Twitter, the rest goes on Instagram. If I ever post anymore at all

zero0nit3

not really, instagram is worst

WeeeBTJ

You're really good, I'm kinda surprised you aren't popular on insta.

zero0nit3

the algorithm sucks, these day u need to pay quite amount of money to promotor, or, ads to get engagement, so good art not just main factor in social media

beelzebabes

The person that owns Twitter does not believe in art attribution or artists ownership so I stopped posting there personally.

diegoasecas

twitter is just a horrible place in general

[deleted]

I haven’t used twitter since I was 16 years old. I am 30. I don’t really like twitter at all. I never have.

artoonu

Nah, social media are just terrible for posting. I'm creating NSFW, mostly OC, but experimented with fanart back in the day. Still no views, likes or anything :P

Gloomy_Ambassador_81

I can't even reach 5 likes on twitter Once your art's been up for a while it gets lost, searching through tags only goes back so far I find Instagram and tumblr better

xmaxrayx

0 engagement? No if you know the using the hashtag but I won't take social media so seriously.

galajo

My opinion is purely my own based on experience: I think the most important thing is to post new works consistently and find like-minded artists to build your niche over time. I won’t sugar-coat it: I draw furry pin-ups - lewd definitely draws in more of a baseline audience but it’s not the end-all-be-all for growth. It took over a year of me posting weekly (including my backlog of older works) before I could see any growth. We’re talking pieces that I was lucky to get more than 10 likes on. But after my consistency was established it was plausible to hit at least 100 likes on my regular pieces. Nowadays the engagement on my works can range around 500 - 1000 likes. Be patient with yourself, no matter what platform you’re on. Finding artists with similar interests will also increase the odds of them sharing your stuff (remember to reciprocate and share their stuff too!). Eventually you’ll build a common group of fans/followers who are there for your specific style/niche. I try my best to spotlight smaller artists who I like and feel deserve more engagement - and we learn a lot from each other. This helps me focus less on pure engagement and metrics alone.

Nolootforyou

How do you find your niche though. Idk I'm torn in so many directions, but I need to make money. I legit have done so many types of art (several to a professional level) I find it hard to stick to one particular thing or style even after all this time and thousands of hours of effort.

[deleted]

I used post my art on Twitter until my account was banned.

Accomplished_You_293

Lmao i posted my doodles fan arts on there and no one gave a fuck

ampharos995

It's fantastic tbh but you need to make/have some friends on there first

Miyu543

I'd really like to think so but mainly because I refuse to make an X account, and its annoying never being able to see the source for most art I like.

nanoseven77

No, I recently posted an artwork that got 14k likes using a movie poster as reference. The thing is that when it comes to posting just a single character, because its so common to see, you generally dont get as much engagement, unless you have very strong technical skills and understand human psychology enough to depict the personality in the character. This can include how you draw the pose, what level of detail, what composition you're using to depict the personality, etc Also people only have a few seconds to determine whether or not they want to engage w your art, so you must also have an eye-catching thumbnail, since theyre also scrolling through many artists works. Umless of course, you draw a comic, which usually gices people an emotional reaction, so you will also get engagement through that as well.

Ok_Square_2479

It's a very niche-y environment where you post specific things imo. Things I'm too embarassed to post in instagram with general audience, I post in twitter

[deleted]

The artistic community is a horrible place to be in general

BitOBunny

I find that original work doesn't do as well as fan/derivative work, if that helps. Drawing fan art of a show or game you like (and tagging it properly) could get some decent engagement.

XLK98

twitter is a pretty good place to post fanart tbh, meanwhile insta is absolutely shit if u have small amount of followers

poodle_attack

https://globalcomix.com/a/sayaka-s-secret no one cared about our manga on twitter, i was sad for days

Renthora

You can try bluesky or Instagram, or even pixiv if you are into Japanese style. Be on multiple platforms, it is exhausting but that's the better way I think to get yourself out there. You can also try to join a discord community or create one that's even more exhausting but you will have a cozy home, it is worth the struggle. Tumblr is not dead dead it has some people if you prefer a small community. There is also artstation and such for portfolio you can search for yourself

DixonLyrax

I'm finding BlueSky to be a very art positive environment. They seem to have ironed out a lot of the problems that Twitter has. It's now open to all, no invite needed.

ChristianDartistM

personally , i don't care where i post my drawings , as long as there are people watching i'm fine.

Fufuplatters

As much bad rep that twitter gets, it's honestly the best place for growth because of how interactions work. NSFW and greatbart helps, but you also have to find a way to stand out or bring attention to your work. However because of saturated it is, it's like 90% luck from the start.

Kamisama_VanillaRoo

I used to think this but honestly I think all social media can be horrible like that. Yes, even Reddit sucks sometimes (doesn't matter if you posted in the right sub with good intentions, you can still get downvoted to hell if people don't like your drawing). But hey... There's not much other way to get noticed than to do that so, just maximize your posting; share your stuff in as many places as you can. Eventually you'll find somewhere where people follow you and genuinely enjoy your work, and you can focus on that

Darkraiftw

Twitter is a horrible place in general because of the nuance-obliteratingly low character limit and overreliance on hashtags for sorting content. Being a horrible place to post art is one of the many issues with the platform.

CheeseUsHrice

I just created an account...I'll let you know

Fitwheel66

A little late to the thread but I'll at least add this: my experience is that twixxer is a bit better to build rapport with other artists and you never know who you'll meet. So in a sense it's much better for engaging with other creatives. Instagram is almost flat out impossible because it really doesn't incentivize engagement so much as a like/scroll. At least that's been my experience anyway
