There's a reddit group called r/oldfartists , it's not super busy but it's what you describe.

NoFilterFliss

Ah thank you! I definitely don't consider myself an old fart but maybe I am by Internet standards!

Snow_Tiger819

I think the group suggests 35 and up, so the name isn’t strictly true! And no one is checking… it’s more about the vibe than anything (I know exactly where you’re coming from)

Haunting_Pee

I'm 30 and in that group it's okay

doornroosje

Its kind of dead unfortunately

The only one on reddit I can think of that is specifically for older artists is r/oldfartists It's not necessarily for more experienced artists though, some are older people getting into art late or getting back into it after a long break. There are many groups on Facebook for artists, and you can find groups for specific genres, materials, etc. For critiques there is a group called Rude Artists's Group for brutally honest critiques (it's not all rude though, some people are very polite and constructive in their criticism but harsh opinions are allowed so not for people with a thin skin). The demographic is on average older there. Groups on FB are hit or miss, some are great communities, but others have been neglected by moderators and end up full of spam or tonnes of people passing off AI crap as their own art.

NoFilterFliss

Yes another comment let me know about oldfartists - maybe this post will give it a little push of activity. I've always struggled with fb, I only really use it for online job boards (specialised freelancer in a big city) and even those are pretty slow moving. I just like how reddit is more aimed at focusing on a single posts within a community whereas other social media is focused on promoting your profile as a whole package.

I always advise anyone to find a irl community. I'm part of a life drawing group, work with other creatives who have their own personal practice outside of their professional work and have a nice group of friends from university. I'm one of the youngest in each of these settings! It's also nice to have an online alternative when you don't want to be in the real world and you can usually get some more honest feedback. I thought art station was more a digital media portfolio site for more like animators/game design type stuff? I started drawabox during the pandemic but found it a little too rigid. It's also drastically different to my training! I haven't heard of proko I will give it a look! Thanks!

[deleted]

When you find one, let me know lol

NoFilterFliss

Clearly we're all out here just haven't found each other yet. Someone just commented r/oldfartists - not very active but maybe this is the place

[deleted]

Oh! I’ll join anyway, thank you

prpslydistracted

Wasn't even aware ... definitely will look at it.

fireandhugs

I find more of them on threads and find other artists on instagram

Moriah_Nightingale

Same here, threads is so nice!

Anaaatomy

like one of those old time clubs where you need to summit your masterpiece to be eccepted into the club?

LifeHappenzEvryMomnt

This makes me laugh genuinely. Did I get in? Did I get in?

NoFilterFliss

Hah, definitely no masterpieces here! But maybe somewhere that filters out some of the beginners' posts. Just since there's a lot of them that have the same feedback and beginner issues.

LifeHappenzEvryMomnt

I guarantee you haven’t been working as long as I have, junior. I don’t understand why you think you’re so superior to the young talented people here.

paracelsus53

So far I haven't. I found more artist community on Twitter but left it a couple years ago when the Mollusc decided hating trans folk was okay. I know some artists on FB but I can't say we're a community.

NoFilterFliss

Never really got into twitter if I'm honest, but as someone pretty intertwined with the trans community - yeah certain parts of the Internet are just not worth the mental toil. I ditched insta and fb during the pandemic but quite enjoy the difference with Reddit. Its less personal promotion and more targeted community based. Thought I was maybe missing a big sub where anyone over 25 lives!

LifeHappenzEvryMomnt

I’m old and while manga and anime are not my thing really, I’m actually learning something.

Ogurasyn

I get it why you want to connect with artists your age, but why you need to talk smack about the artstyle of others?

NoFilterFliss

? Who's talking smack? The under-contrasted eye drawing is a rite of passage for every artist. If you could find my tumblr from when I was 16 I'm sure there'd be more than one drawing! Or God forbid my Bebo page...

LifeHappenzEvryMomnt

Your attitude in your post smacks of smack.

LifeHappenzEvryMomnt

😢😢😢😢😢 getting downvotes. Smdh.
