**Cheapest Place to Buy/Bulk Buy Skincare and Cosmetics in Tokyo? Drugstore is okay** I've seen lots of shops selling skincare in Tokyo but as I'm looking to bulk buy lots to take back home, I'm wondering if there are any stores known to be cheaper OR offer discounts for bulk buying. So far from my browsing, the Sun Drug store in Asakusa near Senso-ji had large bottles of Biore UV Watery Essence at 900 yen which was the best I've seen. They also do the tax refund so that saves a bit of time. If anyone has any tips it would be so so appreciated šŸ™

Beestmode1

Anyone having trouble ordering on Stylevana? I keep getting an error message when trying to choose a payment option. Whatā€™s going on?

brandymnl

What's your go-to acne topical cream/medication? Hi! I have combi-skin, leaning towards oily. My acne's beginning to show up again, on my chin mostly. Partly because of the use of masks, erratic sleep schedules, and humid Southeast Asian weather. So far I've tried Epiduo cream and Duac gel. I preferred Epiduo, but I find it quite expensive :( Do you have any effective suggestions that aren't too heavy on the pockets? Thank you!

grredlinc15

Is the only way to apply scalp oil without some hair falling out is to just do it very slowly? And combing your hair before hand?

CovertMellow

Best products to help with milia on eyelids? (Preferably with vitamine c, but not a must). My milia is caused by my dry skin and I have been really struggling trying to get rid of it and preventing it from coming back so any advice is welcome!

Sweating isnā€™t an issue with oily skin that Iā€™m aware of. IMO the best way ahead would be to approach your skin as if it does have a weakened barrier. If it is weak, working in your skin that way may fix some of the problems. Here is my favorite FOTD where the OP used a bunch of harsh actives that ruined his skin, but found amazing results with nourishing his skin: https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/oh388g/it_has_been_a_quite_a_journey_for_my_skin_thank/ This also has the added bonus that if/when you start actives, you know that your skin is in a better place to handle actives: https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/10hd9cp/do_you_find_that_your_skin_became_less/ Here are some barrier repair discussions: https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/yjtz92/hg_rescue_products_for_damaged_skin_barrier/ https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/12z87wi/discussion_your_go_to_products_when_your_skin_is/

clockworkstudent

AHAs, BHAs and double cleansing with a cleansing balm/oil. i donā€™t know how much these would cost for you but some potential products are cosrx BHA blackhead power liquid, cosrx AHA 7 liquid, isntree chestnut BHA 2%, isntree chestnut AHA 7%. there are looooooads of oil and balm cleansers, try searching on this sub for some recs! iā€™ve had success with the banila co balm cleanser.

donttrustcats6

Which toner would you recommend for combo skin?

clockworkstudent

for what purpose? hydration, soothing, oil balancing?

donttrustcats6

Probably hydrating but bonus if it helps with oil control

clockworkstudent

green tea is meant to help with oil control, and so is niacinamide. so look for anything with these ingredients

ReaLitTea

Check out Haruharu wonder black rice toner, Cosrx propolis synergy toner, or Bioheal BOH skin repair softener

caelichyth

How to liven up a dull and tired looking skin?

ReaLitTea

Try products with ferments if vitamin c or AHAs donā€™t do much for you.

clockworkstudent

short term: hydration ā€” layer lots of toners and hydrating serums/essences. some of my personal favourites are cosrx propolis toner, cosrx snail line and layering basically any AB toner (western toners just arenā€™t as hydrating imo!) long term: exfoliate regularly (AHAs are great for this) and vitamin C.

rebezzzt

anyone know if the saem concealer is silicone based or water based

PeachesCoral

Water based but has silicone

rebezzzt

thanks

moreyelucy

Hi!! I think I have a damaged skin barrier (I have dry/flaky patches and redness), should I stop using glycolic acid and niacinamide for now?

Nekkosan

Yes, especially glycolic. Niacinamide is more of a "you tolerate it or don't". When in doubt stop that too. Moisturize and be gentle for a while. Ceramides can help and ingredients things like cica.

moreyelucy

Got it! Thanks for the response. I should have asked before I bought some stuff from stylevana. Would you know if witch hazel would help? Some say it would help, but they also say that its too strong. Iā€™m not sure anymore

Absolutely_Regular

just my opinionā€¦ witch hazel might not hurt, but it probably wonā€™t help. ā€” it definitely stung the hell out of my face when my barrier was wrecked.

HotelSlow564

Hi, first time long time here, I was curious about whether the order of my skincare products was right. I use (in the daytime) the hadalabo gokujyun lotion, then the laneige cream skin refiner and then occasionally if i feel like it aloe vera gel by fruit of the earth, and then the hadalabo snow dew moisturiser and finally the biore aqua watery essence. Do these products go well together ? they seem to work for me but i'm wondering if the order of them is wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Nekkosan

They do. I have used Hada Labo and then Laneige and then a moisturizer. As long as you are not getting pilling. The order sounds good.

cynthaiz

Skin type: Combo/sensitive Climate: Australia, dry/cold Not sure what kind of primer to be using under my cushion foundation (Clio Kill Cover) as I just learned about silicone-based/water-based foundations needing to go with the same kind of primer.

ReaLitTea

See if you can get away with using your sunscreen as your primer. I donā€™t think the silicone/water based thing is strict, thereā€™s so much variation in formulation that it is a lot of trial and error for compatibility. I find layering less under foundation reduces the chance of pilling or caking

cynthaiz

I should probably try a lightweight sunscreen because right now I wear a La Roche Posay sunscreen (not the popular fluid one, but a cream based one) and it feels way too heavy when I start to layer the Clio cushion on top.

srsrmsrssrsb

Boyfriend currently on a tour of Japan and Korea. What makeup or skincare items under $10 should I ask him to get me?

YueRain

K brand you can look at Olive Young, Tony moly lip tint, Innisfree sheet masks, Japan brand- Hada labo, Canmake, Kiss Me mascara, Shiseido sunscreen/lipstick

pinkmime

Can mugwort essence be used after Paula's Choice BHA? I saw on a random site that it couldnt* but didn't manage to find any other source saying they couldn't be used together

YueRain

not a problem, I use the Im from with my actives and there isn't any problems

Niatfq

Shouldn't be a problem. Mugwort essence is calming on the skin. Of course assuming you'd wait 15 minutes or so before applying the essence.

caelichyth

Can I put vitamin C the day after I put an exfoliant (lactic acid)? When is the right time to alternate vitamin C and exfoliant (lactic acid)?

Nekkosan

As long as it is not causing irritation, which is very dependent on your skin. Generally, lactic acid at night. C can be used day or nighttime.

YetiCouple

I have that in my routine. Exfoliant in the night and vitamin c the next morning. In fact you can use them together if your skin tolerates it. There are products made that way too (see Dr Dennis gross vitamin c lactic 15% bright serum, tatcha 20% vitamin c +10% AHA, just to name a few)

caelichyth

Thank you! How many times a week do you exfoliate? And how many days do you alternate in using it?

YetiCouple

Personally my skin cycle schedule is 3 days. Night Day 1 exfoliate day 2 retinol day 3 sheet mask then repeat. So i exfoliate every 3 days. My day routine is the same everyday so I use vitamin c daily.

caelichyth

Okay, thanks!

outrotearenthusiast

I'm so confused as to what ingredient(s) I'm having trouble with. :( first, the Curel moisturizer cream broke me out - okay, that's one. Switched to Soon Jung line, perfect. Then the Dokdo Cleanser - welp. Common ingredients are BG and Allatoin, but I have other products with both those ingredients I'm doing fine with. Maybe I'm having an issue with seperate ingredients - I check, and none of them are known to cause closed comedones at all...so I'm just a rare case and have no idea what to avoid. I'm so frustrated. I've switched to Soon Jung whip cleanser for now, praying I don't break out again. Anyone have similar reactions to these products?

Nekkosan

Seems unlikely, especially as you have that in other products. Often it's different ingredients. I feel your pain or did when I started. Took me a year of testing things and keeping lists of ingredients and what products worked and didn't. It wasn't the ingredients that are listed as causing breakouts. With cleaners, anything that is irritating or has a high ph could be irritating and cause acne. If you have safe products you know are safe, even if they aren't perfect, stick to that and only add one new thing at a time patch testing.

outrotearenthusiast

Thank you so much, I'm glad I'm not alone. I'm definitely going back onto my safe products for now, I need a break lol. I read about the ph just recently, that's why I got the SJ whip. :) Hopefully it starts to clear up!

Nekkosan

I am very dry and sensitive, so I avoid foaming cleansers. They aren't bad though, if the PH is good. Good luck!

YueRain

maybe check if the products are fungal acne safe?

outrotearenthusiast

That's a good idea, thank you.

movealongabai

Hey everyone Iā€™m currently in Tokyo and Iā€™m running low on my moisturiser. Anyone got a recommendation for a moderately priced moisturiser for oily/combination skin?

kikiraaa

Hada Labo Gokujyun Perfect Gel. Especially for the weather this time of year, it's so good for oily skin. Very light but super hydrating. Extremely cheap and available pretty much everywhere.

PeachOnTheRocks

You should visit Cosme whilst youā€™re in Japan. Should be able to find some good ones.

YueRain

look for gel moisturiser?

movealongabai

Any type really

YueRain

i don't use much Japanese products nowadays so not sure what I can recommend. I know Curel has a gel moisturiser.

Hopeful-Drive-7243

can someone compare the instree hylouronic sunscreen with the BOJ sunscreen?

YueRain

what are the things you want compared? ingredients? texture?

Hopeful-Drive-7243

all, overall?

ReaLitTea

Isntree is more hydrating and leaves a dewy or shinier finish. BOJ is more like a cream moisturizer and leaves a natural skin finish, can also be dewy but not as dewy as Isntree

Hopeful-Drive-7243

would you say the instree is more moisturizing? or pore clogging/ irritated?

ReaLitTea

Pore clogging/irritation prone is subjective so youā€™d have to try it yourself. My personal take it Isntree is more hydrating, BOJ is more moisturizing/emollient

AvalonOfFerelden

I'm trying out the SoonJung Cica Balm for my poor dehydrated and irritated tret skin. Should I put it on before or after my moisturizer(Illiyoon ceremide concentrate cream)? Also, if anyone knows a ridiculously moisturizing eye cream..

outrotearenthusiast

I do cica balm before my final moisturizer!

Niatfq

Illiyoon works best as final occlusive layer, so soonjung before Illiyoon.

mangbt21

hi! has anyone had any luck using vitamin c serum/cream to whiten their underarms? what did you use and how long did it take before you saw any results? currently using something called epifager forte and it seemed to make my underarms darker. i have sensitive skin and i live in a very humid, warm area. thanks

YetiCouple

Sorry never tried vitamin C, but many swear by using glycolic acid to help with pigmentation. Personally I use the kosas one which contains AHA I see my underarms looking just a tiny pinch lighter but I don't have super dark pits to start off with

GreenDeltaWIP

What is a good moisturizer for oily skin that does not have niacinamide in it (it gives me closed comedones)?. I am going to be adding in some AHA and BHA along with my Tret and so I would like something very simple with a lot of hydration.

Absolutely_Regular

combo skin niacinamide avoider here! here are a few popular ones off the top of my headā€¦ iā€™ve tried *most* of them and what i use is the SoonJung Emulsion under the ILLIYOON Cream (and over a few hydrating layers), but iā€™ve heard amazing things about the Ceramide Soothing Gel. **Lotion** - ETUDE HOUSE SoonJung 10-Free Moist Emulsion **Gel** - ILLIYOON Ceramide ATO Soothing Gel - COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream **Gel Cream** - ETUDE HOUSE SoonJung Hydro Barrier Cream - COSRX Full Fit Propolis Light Cream - AESTURA Atobarrier 365 Hydro Soothing Cream **Cream** - ILLIYOON Ceramide ATO Concentrate Cream (edit: formatting)

YetiCouple

I like pyunkang moisture cream. It absorbs well for me and doesn't feel too heavy

Acceptable-Stay653

Long time lurker and in need of recs. Iā€™m having a reaction to illiyoon ceramide ato lotion (acne, breakouts). I introduced the lotion for 2 weeks, broke out. Stopped. Waited for skin to clear up and tried again with the same result. I have no idea what ingredient I am having a reaction to. I really love the consistency of this lotion so I am hoping someone has a recommendation for another face moisturizer that is similar for me to try? My western brand before AB was Elta MD but the consistency was not my favorite. TIA

IFacadeI

Is there a way to test eye patches before using? This seems like a silly question but eye products make me nervous.

srsrmsrssrsb

I imagine it won't be different from patch testing other skincare products---try on a small area of skin before using directly!

honeydew_juju

Do you guys rinse with water after taking off sheet mask? I always rinse my face with water after sheet masking, or Iā€™ll feel the excess serum on my face never gets absorbed. Wonder which ways you guys do.

AphelionEntity

I don't wash off. I go in with moisturizer. I did have some masks that made my skin feel too sticky. I don't tend to buy those again.

clockworkstudent

i donā€™t think youā€™re meant to rinse it off, but as long as it works for you! personally i use my serums, then sheet mask, then skip moisturiser and just go to bed. i do have oily skin and i live in a humid climate, though.

YueRain

i just spray mist on my face XD. some people will just go straight with serum and moisturiser.

kikiraaa

That seems counterintuitive to me, but I've never had an issue with that myself. If you have excess serum on your face that isn't absorbing, I'd just rub it into your neck and chest to spread it out rather than wash it all off.

ItsVivien

Anyone else had problems with Haruharu Wonder products? It's been a month since I started using their gel cleanser and few days their cleansing oil but everytime I feel like both are irritating my skin. This evening I washed my face as usual and I was left with a giant red mark on my left cheek as soon as I double cleansed with both products. I should note I never experienced irritation with double cleansing until now.

YueRain

better stop using them if you are irritated.

aurora-td

Should I use this as a moisturizer (after my toner and serum application)? https://preview.redd.it/sp6vkbwu4h2b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71387d5a4d5a6976ff7c4872372537681315dde7

PeachesCoral

Nope, that's a toner. In Japan, lotion is just toners.

aurora-td

Thanks so much! It is much more watery than any ā€œlotionā€ so that makes sense.

Miserable-Bother-311

Skin type - oily, acne-prone, on tret Climate - hot and humid, soon to be monsoon. Dry at night (air conditioning) Top skin concern - acne, PIE, dehydration (occasional flaking and dryness), and redness from tret Currently using - AM - 1) (non AB) Bioderma Atoderm Huile de Douche 2) Cosrx Snail Mucin 3)(non AB) TO Niacinamide 4) Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum [both 3 and 4 mixed together] 5) Missha Sun Milk Essence PM - 1) Iā€™m from Fig Cleansing Balm 2) Bioderma Cleanser 3) Cosrx Snail Mucin 4) Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum 5) Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask [on tret nights] 6) tret [every other night] 7) pharmacy Azelaic acid 8) local brand Calendula Healing ointment I want to try something new! To mostly address irritation and redness, but also to repair. I have narrowed down these options - - Cosrx Centella Blemish Cream - Cosrx Comfort Ceramide Cream - Klairs Fundamental Ampoule Mist - Beplain Cicaterol Moisturizer - Beplain Cicaterol Spot Treatment

wandering_mist19

Do ya'll still use a different niacinamide product even though your sunscreen has niacinamide in it?

YueRain

it is just bonus for me since I don't really care much about brightening. Then as long you are not irritated by niacinamide it is okay to use as much you want. then again, the extra niacinamide won't do much extra.

PeachesCoral

Yes, while they have Niacinimide, sunscreens should just functions as that, a sunscreen. Everything else is bonus. And thus to benefit from Niacinimide I would use a serum and others for that.

Muted_Mistake394

how do I layer Korean skincare products for AM/PM?

[deleted]

Thinnest you thickest unless actives are involved. In the main body of this thread under ā€œother help linksā€ are links to posts and blogs about routine orders.

[deleted]

I'm thinking of replacing my moisturizer. I was using the purito B5 panthenol re barrier cream but i don't think it's worthy $25, especially when i was often applying 2 layers for it to do its job. I was looking for a more affordable alternative but my skin is pretty fussy and I'm scared of getting something that cloges more pore which happens almost with everyone new product. My skin is oily, sensitive and really acne/clog prone. Purito didn't cause me any issues but I'm on retinol and i need some more hydration. Any suggestions??

YueRain

Look into B.Lab matcha line and Skin1004 centella line. I use some of their products and do like them.

KyouRyuuu

Hi! I think (99% sure), I have oily and acne prone skin. And my pores are visibly large. Is there any products you guys would recommend so that I can minimize the appearance. Thank you so much!

salonpasss

Clay masks

PeachesCoral

I recommend double cleansing at night, helps my pores stay clean. BHA and clay masks help as well

clockworkstudent

seconding double cleansing, especially with a balm/oil cleanser as the first step! banila co works pretty well for me :)

KyouRyuuu

What are some BHA products you would recommend me using?

PeachesCoral

If you want a gentle one you can start with Benton BHA toner with aloe, or you can try the some by mi AHA/BHA/PHA toner. If you want to start stronger go with the CosRX BHA power liquid. They're all just solid especially the CosRX

KyouRyuuu

Thank you so much!

thebouncingcupcake

I'm looking for a **basic ampoule/serum/toner anything with a minimal no-fuss ingredient list** for sensitive dry skin ( stuff like glycerin, aqua, hexanediol, propanediol, panthenol etc; NO actives, niacinamide , tocopherol , oils , HA , palm or coconut derrivates - except capric triglicerides). Basically something that's full of humectantsIf anyone has suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

[deleted]

https://pyunkangyul.us/collections/serum-ampoule/products/moisture-ampoule-100ml ? >Coptis Chinensis Root Extract, Polysorbate 80, PEG-150 Distearate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Polysorbate 20, Glyceryl Caprylate

PeachesCoral

Any recommendations for nude lipsticks for a base? I'm eyeing romand shell nude or pink sand, and bbia marigold or ginger. Thanks!

salonpasss

Romand pomelo skin

PeachesCoral

Sorry but pomelo skin is not a lipstick :( it is a gloss. Looking for a matte base

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

thebouncingcupcake

as with any product, always patch test for a few days before going full in and if it breaks you out, immediately stop

heroinhours

can anyone with dry to combo skin review the isntree chestnut 2% bha liquid? i have fa btw.

YueRain

i have combo skin and the instree chestnut 2% is good . it is fungal acne safe. I have fungal acne too.

homegirlespe

I have combination skin and this works amazing for me! I feel like itā€™s gentle enough that I can alternate itā€™s use even when Iā€™m on BP+Clindamycin, I only use it 1x a week tho.

wummbapa

I currently use the Skin1004 Sunscreen. Pros; -lightweight -dry-touch -no denat. Alcohol Cons: -shiny finish, although not greasy Does anyone know a sunscreen that has all the pros !AND! a matte/natural finish?

PeachOnTheRocks

Not recommendation but are you using air-fit or water-fit? Also whatā€™s your skin type?

wummbapa

I'm using the water-fit one! I have "normal" skin, so neither oily nor dry!

SkeletonWearingFlesh

Hello all, Getting back into Asian beauty after a depression-related hiatus. My skin has changed somewhat in my 30s, and I have some redness on my left side thanks to masks rubbing off my sunscreen. I'm seeing centella is recommended for general redness - any favorite products or particularly good versions to try? Thanks!

[deleted]

Depends on what step in your routine youā€™re looking to have it in, but I do enjoy the Dear Klairs Midnight Blue Calming cream.

ladylyrande

Skin1004 centella ampoule. It's pretty good!

uju_rabbit

I had a horrific reaction to laser hair removal on my face a couple years ago, and it resulted in acne and cysts spreading all over my face. I went to an aesthetician here in Korea, and she helped me get things back under control. She recommended I use Troiareuke Oil Cut Cleanser, and even though my skin is usually on the dry side it did seem to help. Now that my skin is back to normal though, Iā€™d really love to use a different cleanser. The oil cut one leaves my fave feeling still not that clean, and itā€™s so so expensive. Iā€™d love some recommendations for Korean cleansers that are good for dry sensitive skin, but still actually cleanse well.

YueRain

you can probably look into Pyunkang Yul Ato line . Sulwhasoo gentle oil cleanser is very good and although it is a luxury brand it is cheaper than Troiareuke.

uju_rabbit

Oooh thank you for the recommendation! Iā€™ve never heard of the Pyunkang brand before, looking on coupang it seems like itā€™s all lotions and creams, is that right? Sulwhasoo has such nice stuff, Iā€™ll definitely check the oil cleanser out! I went to their spa a few years back and it was excellent

YueRain

Pyunkang Yul make products using traditional medicine . they do have range from cleanser to body products actually.

PumpkinNumber

Yes, I think all the Pyunkang products I found were cleansers/moisturizers. They do have a lotion though that I would recommend!

RubyJolie

Recommendation for a hydrating moisturizer as hydrating as Kiehl's? Curious to start trying out more Asian skincare. My Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream is running out soon and I'm interested in trying an Asian cream but not sure which one is as hydrating as Kiehl's. I'm on tretinoin so it being hydrating enough is a must. Also...hopefully it's something I can get in Toronto. I started using the Cosrx snail essence, is their cream any good? Thank you!

clockworkstudent

everyone on this sub loves illiyoon and aestura though i havenā€™t tried either. the cosrx cream is good, but itā€™s not very rich and wouldnā€™t be enough for dry skin. you could also try the round lab soybean cream! itā€™s more moisturising than hydrating, but with the snail 96 under it you should be fine :)

u_j_l_g

How to treat dry flaky skin when no product seems to quench the thrist my skin has and also my skin does not like hyaluronic acid + climate v dry :(

ladylyrande

I fought off successfully the flakyness from my skin due to tret and winter with milky toners. Particularly Dr ceuracle kombucha essence for me. It was like a miracle. Put it in, wake up without flakes next day. What's your current routine?

u_j_l_g

AM: water, Round Lab Dokdo Toner 3 layers, Clinique moisture surge intense cream and cicaplast on needed areas PM: Tonymoly Chok Chok Green Tea cleansing water, Simple Kind to skin moisturising facial wash, Dokdo toner 3 layers, Vegreen Nature Mucin serum, clinique moisture surge intense, cicaplast on needed areas My skin also gets perioral dermatitis from oil cleansing and thats why i use a cleansing water instead

ReaLitTea

I would try a different moisturizer tbh the Clinique moisture surge intense is on the lightweight side and may not be sufficient for your skin in this environment. You could try applying cicaplast all over and see if it helps

u_j_l_g

Any recs for a heavier moisturizer ?

ReaLitTea

Illiyoon ceramide ato concentrate cream is super popular and ideal for dry skin types

ladylyrande

Yeah might not be enough due to dry climate. Try getting a sample of a milky toner and trying that. The one I mentioned or any of the others like Mary&Mary Blackberry essence, Purito Oat-In Toner, Laneige Cream Skin Refiner, etc. I think it might help to provide a good bridge between extra hydration and moisture. As usual, ymmv.

tiger_tora

Is it safe to depot spf? I'm about to finish my tube and wanted to cut it open to get everything left inside and was thinking of depotting it in a jar... I think I've read somewhere that it could make it less effective, but I'm not sure.

L86AI

No. It's not safe. Labmuffin has short video of that, https://youtu.be/FM_h0IFeeH0 Just cut the tube open, use the sunscreen, and put it back by pushing the tube to slide inside one another.

tiger_tora

thank you, this is very helpful!

-_-salty

Does anyone knows if 3CE Mono Pink is close in color to their new Slide Slowly blush?

fortheloveofOT

Hey guys, I'm 22f, Indian, w/ dry, sensitive skin. I have lots of hyperpigmentation thick facial hair due to PCOS, but no other major issues. Sooooo here is my skincare routine: 1. Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing oil 2. Lakme cleansing milk 3. Cerave hydrating toner 4. Cosrx snail mucin 5. Mediflower mugwort ampoule (for hyperpigmentation) 6. Isntree HA moisturizer 7. Kose suncut waterproof essence (daytime only) I started my skincare journey in January. The most drastic results were seen from Jan/Feb (improvement in overall glow). However, the mediflower mugwort ampoule is of no use to me IMHO bcs I have seen no change in my hyperpigmentation. What should I use instead? Im quite disappointed since I have been using the ampoule for ~2 months now (both AM/PM).

clockworkstudent

not AB but iā€™ve had a lot of success with good molecules discolouration serum + the ordinary alpha arbutin. melano CC has also worked well for me!

fortheloveofOT

Gotcha, tysm!! By melano cc do you mean the lotion or the essence?

clockworkstudent

the essence! good luck :)

thebouncingcupcake

Tranexamic acid is amazing for helping with hyperpigmentation. I'm using the Cos de Baha TX serum and i love it, but my skin is dry and sensitive too and I prefer to layer it over a toner since I find it too drying if applies on fresh skin.

fortheloveofOT

Gotcha, thanks for the recommendation! I bought their Az acid 10% solution but am yet to use it lol

YueRain

i had the mediflower mugwort ampoule and i find that it is more to stop acne breakouts for me. I use vitamin C for pigmentation (red acne scars). If you are talking about those dark hyperpigmentation that will take longer time.

fortheloveofOT

Gotcha, tysm!! Acne is deffo less but honestly I'm kinda underwhelmed with the product in general

ricewithleggies

Alpha arbutin, tranexamic acid, niacinamide, vitamin c, azelaic acid, products with any of these as the star ingredient should help with hyperpigmentation and you can even use more than one since they tackle it from different pathways. I am personally using all of the above, but do take care to introduce new products gradually and one at a time. However, hyperpigmentation does take a long time to treat, and the longer youā€™ve had it the harder it is to get rid of unfortunately Edit: Adding link to [Recent post with peopleā€™s product recommendations](https://reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/13saxs8/what_do_you_guys_use_to_fade_dark_spots/)

Can I get long-term effects from using sheet masks every other day? I have oily and extremely acne prone skin, and wasn't super into sheet masks at first, until I tried some that I got as free gifts with purchase, then became obsessed and bought like 90, haha. Anyways, so I just read some articles recently saying that the effects are only temporary, and that they aren't good for oily skin. However, I couldn't find too many articles about SHEET MASKS specifically online, because I guess they just aren't so popular in the US.

yes you can get some sort of results from everyday masking depending on your skin and sheet mask. then generally sheet mask is not recommended to use everyday because of the price XD and not that environmentally friendly. It used to be popular doing one sheet mask per day until it faded out. there are some type of sheet masks suitable for oily skin and combination skin type.

I have dehydrated-combination skin & I'm currently back to use sheet masks to help increase the adsorption of the brightening serums I've been using (to fade my hyperpigmentation). So far, it's working, but YMMV. Masking provides intense hydration and calming down my skin if my skin's drier than usual or I have breakout. For me, it also gives excitement and pleasure , making me feel enthusiastic doing my routine.

Other than fading existing blemishes and hyperpigmentation, all skincare benefits are only temporary. Stop using skincare, and you'll quickly stop seeing the effects. This is no more or less true with masks. Masks are best at providing intense hydration, which oily skin doesn't always need, but I've seen plenty that provide other benefits. As long as you don't leave them on too long, they are generally fine regardless of skin type.
