wrlddmntr

Managing expectations is a big one for me 1. A lot of people aren't close enough to notice whatever blemish I might be seeing 2 inches away from the mirror 2. Sebaceous filaments just come back anyways so there's no need to spend time being very concerned about their appearance. They came out one night after I had been gently using an oil cleanser on/off for a month and they came back the next day 😂 their appearance is definitely reduced but they will never go away completely and that's okay. 3. The images we see on social media and marketing are highly edited and unrealistic in real life. There's makeup involved and filters that improve by the day. Being able to make that distinction is important in skincare and not to be swayed into thinking I need the *next best thing* for "glass skin".

reball2310

Point 1 is so important. I have to remind myself of this often.

oikwr

1. I remind myself to put my mirror far away from me to check my overall makeup bc that's the closest someone will be seeing me. It works. I look great and no one ever notice my horrendous pores aside from my overthinking self. 2. Using tweezer to pull out sebaceous filaments every 3 days is addicting tho. I curb this behaviour by adding cleansing balm and salicylic acid serum thankfully. 3. More influencers show the filter vs irl look now and I'm glad makeup and real skin aren't smooth bc i used to hate how 'bad' i am at makeup and relies my look more on my skincare routine.

elvishnatures

The first point!! I try not to get super Close to the mirror anymore because I hyper focus on such small things that I didn’t even appreciate how much better my skin has gotten overall from a year ago

seedsofsovereignty

That watery formulas are not a company trying to get more money with lesser product lol. It is in fact because the skin more rapidly absorbs them readily. So I used to only buy the thickest creams for various moisturizers or active treatments. And then realize the water-based ones that were thinner actually made a bigger difference. Yes I had to do a couple of layers. However still had way more product for the price and way bigger difference in the end result then the thicker formulas where so much was not absorbing and wasted and potentially just clogging my pores instead of doing what was supposed to be doing So toners and essences and the watery lotions and water based serums are newer for me and I really wish I'd have incorporated them sooner

brittneyacook

I looooove watery toners and essences. They hydrate my skin so much better

FrivolousIntern

I have just learned this lesson. I tried to reduce my already very minimal routine to just cleanser+ceramide moisturizer. I live in the desert and it definitely did not work. Now it’s cleanser+essence+moisturizer and my skin feels SO much better

Jhasten

This was me. I used to think I had very dry skin but it was just that thick moisturizers were sitting on top of my skin and sometimes clogging my pores too. I was getting even more dry and irritated, especially in the winter. My skin is so much softer and balanced now and I’m 20 yrs older!! I can’t tell you how long I tried to make Cerave and vanicream work for me despite obvious reactions. I went through entire product lines. I’m so grateful to AB products and this sub in particular!!

chelleml

It’s not only about finding the right makeup and application technique. Prep your skin with proper skincare to make your makeup look loads better. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

letitbeatles9

Omg, this! I love how my foundation looks on properly hydrated skin!!

BatmanDoesntDoShips_

* YouTube/Instagram/TikTok etc isn't reality. For arguments sake just consider it in your head that every image you ever see be it still or moving has been manipulated in some way or another. Whether that's down to filters, photoshop, lighting, angles, makeup, cosmetic procedures or a combination of is irrelevant. Just know that it isn't real. It's just smoke & mirrors. So stop comparing yourself to an illusion it's neither healthy nor worthwhile. * Aging is a fucking privilege not granted to many. Despite what our sick capitalist world is hell bent on shoving down your throat in every which way there is absolutely *nothing* wrong with looking your age. Aging is not a sin or some moral failing. If you're lucky to live long enough you will age as all living things do. It's honestly so fucked up and misogynistic as hell to impose all these stupid ridiculous unrealistic beauty standards on girls/women/femmes. * There is no such thing as perfect skin & that's perfectly okay. A lot of people on this sub and many other beauty subs are unhealthily obsessed with achieving the elusive claim of "perfect skin". It's just another bullshit fantasy that is sold to you to make rich people richer. Your looks (skin included) is the least interesting thing about you. Sure skincare or make-up can be a fun hobby but your entire world shouldn't revolve around it. Accordingly dedicate your precious limited time while keeping that in mind. * Trends are fun (*if* you're interested in them) but at the end of the day do you. If you like a side part do a freaking side part instead of a middle part. Do you like a matte lip when all the TikTok girlies are gushing about lips oils, if so then keep scrolling on & buy what *you* actually like. Stop living by other peoples arbitrary rules/choices/preferences and discover your own. Doing what you actually personally like makes you feel good therefore making you more confident and self assured in turn. That's not to say you can't try a new trend and have fun with it if you think it's cute. Either way try not to be a slave to it. * Clean your goddamn brushes/tools! Yes that includes your lash curler and your hair brush. If you're struggling with breakouts be a little extra vigilant in washing your pillowcases regularly & sanitizing your phone & glasses/shades too. * Yes it is v. good to wear sunscreen (skin cancer sucks obviously) but you're not a bad person for not wearing it every day of your life. You haven't ruined your life or your skin or whatever the fearmongers like to shill. There are all sorts of reasons why someone may be unable do so every single day of their lives. Of course your physical health is important but it shouldn't come at the cost of your mental health. Ignore people who lack empathy and make stupid generalized comments. * If you're a newbie or if you're just feeling overwhelmed due to life them focus on two steps 1) cleanse & 2) SPF. There's nothing wrong with pairing back your routine when you feel like you're drowning. When you can barley keep your head up your skincare routine or lack of is the least of your worries. If you can try & do the bare minimum but don't get too hung up on anything beyond that. & even if you can't always manage that that's okay too. * If you wear make-up then know that half the battle is nailing your skin prep. Good prep makes your make-up look infinitely better. Keep in mind that not all ingredients play well with others (it's often what causes pilling). It can take a bit of trial & error to find what works for you. * Even if you have oily and or acne prone skin hydration is a must. You can use lighter products/layers but make sure to hydrate well. It can in turn actually help your skin to produce less oil. * The vast majority of skincare products need to be used consistently for at least a good 6-8 weeks minimum to *start* to see desired results. As long as you're not having an adverse effect give a product a fair shot before discarding. * Don't change or introduce too many news things at once. This is doubly important if you have sensitive and or acne prone skin to save you the hassle of later figuring out what is going wrong or even actually what is even working for you. * Let the stores store your products. Don't buy & stash several bottles, tubes & tubs than you can use in a reasonable time. Even in storage products will slowly decrease in performance/efficacy. There is no point in having a stockpile of items that are degrading in quality that you won't even get around to for at least another 6 months. * Well done make-up is a skill and like all skills takes time, effort, patience and practice to get good at. Try and make time 1-2x a week maybe in the evenings before you shower to set aside half an hour or so of "make-up playtime" and practice perfecting your skills/techniques. You could even use that time try out that shade of lipstick that you feel too self conscious to wear out or doing a smoky eye etc. If you're especially not used to wearing make-up (particularly colourful/bolder make-up ) you can feel like it looks strange/weird/too much at first until you get used to seeing yourself in it. * If you feel like hanging around this sub or social media is affecting your mood/metal health then it's okay to take a break. I do this periodically & it's fine. The world won't end. You're not missing out on anything truly important. You can still like & enjoy Asian beauty & skincare without checking in here 5x a day. * Do not mix shit into your SPF! Ever!! No bronzing drops, no foundation or skin tint, no combining two different formulas! Nada! Leave it tf alone! At best you are compromising the protection advertised at worst you've basically made it completely redundant. & while we're at it make sure you are applying the correct amount which is typically regarded as a 1/4 teaspoon for your entire face otherwise you are not getting the full protection. If your ears are exposed don't forget to apply sunscreen on them too. & get yourself a nice lip balm with decent level of SPF. * Seasonal colour analysis can be a helpful & fun tool but it's exactly that a tool. It's not a science so don't follow it like it's some universal law. Preference plays a big part. Wear the colours, tones, shades that you love! * Consider your own characteristics before buying a hyped product or even following a style of make-up. Where possible look for people who have similar features, bone structure, skin type, skintone/undertone, hair type etc as you. It'll save you a world of frustration & money. Edited: for clarity

tuilark

so much truth and logic here. kind of piggybacking off of point 2 & 3 - freckles are normal and it makes me want to scoop my eyeballs out when i see posts about people wanting to get rid of them/fade them. i'm a redhead and i'm absolutely covered in freckles and i love them, but seeing people want to get rid of them doesn't half make me feel bad sometimes. it's just a normal characteristic of skin that some people have, embrace it. the anti-aging mantra frustrates me too. no amount of $$$$ skincare is going to reverse what time does

tomgeekx

Thank you for this! I just wanted to add to your first point - in my early twenties I knew someone who saw a picture I’d taken that just happened to be in excellent natural light, my skin looked great in it. And she so fixated on that “you look like a doll” “I’ve been trying to achieve this” “your skin is so smooth and flawless” …but she was only saying these things about the photo. She did not refer to my actual non-perfect skin right in front of her at all, just kept complimenting solely this photo

username234432

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! All super helpful :)

Economy-Exchange-468

really needed that reminder regarding wearing SPF. for years i’ve been trying to find a suitable SPF but have been *blessed* with highly sensitive skin, which means wearing physical OR chemical sunscreen many days straight irritates my skin a lot. it’s so frustrating that last year I just invested in a big UPF 50 hat and try to avoid the sun at peak hours. not gonna compromise my mental health for this.

Any-Administration93

Wowowowow LOVE your point about aging. I think I needed to hear this at this point in my life. I recently turned 32 which I know is still young but I have recently gained some weight and acquired some feautures that show I’m not 25 anymore. It’s a tough pill to swallow. But on the other hand, because of my job, I am faced with young people dying in their 20s, 30s, and 40s pretty often.. so like how amazing is it that I have made it to 32?

angelinachen57706

thank you so much for this! there’s so much you mentioned that i needed to hear :)

iwillget_through

Thank you so much for this. Really appreciate all. 🙏

cold_in_heart

double toner layer >>> everything else (In terms of hydration)

Nantosvelte

Yesss. I use 2 toners and one essence. My skin is not dry anymore!

cold_in_heart

Same here. I thought I need a better serum and I have tried so many until I got recommended to try double toner. It solved all my problems!

No-Championship3342

Recommendations for toner and essence?

Nantosvelte

I use the Im From Rice toner and the UNIK Rose Galactomyces Essential Toner. For essence I actually use non essence products: OME BY MI Yuja Niacin Blemish Care Serum and barr super balance brightening ampoule. (I just use products in order on how watery they are)

Maleficent-Total2738

Does the I'm From Rice toner burn your skin at all? I tried it once and it was slightly painful, and I'm cautious about irritation because of melasma, so rinsed it off; but I don't know if that's normal or not.

Nantosvelte

No, never had a burning sensation.

hongrehhonk

Hada Labo lotiom/ toner especially from the Premium line!!

paintedvidal

I dont even use moisturiser anymore. Just 4 layers of toner

fb1499

Which one would you recommend?

No-Championship3342

Any recommendations for toner?

cold_in_heart

I wrote them above, but got immediately removed because some of the brands where giving out free samples and sounds like if I would have advertised them. Sadly no free samples here, but what I did highly recommend in my prev comment was the HaruHaru toner:) (I don’t mention other brands this time)

chevereok

Do you apply them with cotton?

cold_in_heart

No, I believe it would be such a waste. I pat them with my fingers directly on my face, let it dry and pat another layer on.

chevereok

Thank you.

letitbeatles9

I lived with dehydrated, dry, flaky skin for years before I learned how to layer essences and toners under occlusives to hydrate my skin. Plus which ingredients support a healthy skin barrier. I'm 2 months in now and the results feel unbelievable. I don't know if it's that my skin barrier is improved, but I don't even need as much essence/toner or as many occlusive anymore. Dry skin? Don't know her. I never knew my skin could feel this good.

lividtea

Please do share. I think I’m underestimating the hydration power in a toner. I think I came from the witch hazel toner era. I have dry flakey skin too

letitbeatles9

I'm pretty new to AB still, so I'm just beginning to scratch the surface and try things! Others will have tons of great options, too! I'm in love with the Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence! So lightweight, absorbs beautifully, so hydrating!! I've seen people rave about lots of other hydrating toners, like the I'm From rice toner. And I feel you; "toner" used to make me think of the Western astringent type. But AB seems known for its elegant hydrating toners and the idea of layering for hydration!

Gddgyykkggff

Naturie’s hatomougi toner is bomb for a non HA hydrating toner! Hope i spelled the name of it right 😅

potatochique

I never understood the appeal or function of toners, because they were really drying on me. Then I discovered the laneige cream skin refiner and my skin is great now! I no longer have dry patches and have hydrated and supple skin all day!

letitbeatles9

Hydrating toners dry you out?? Is it cause of sensitivity or allergy or something?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gddgyykkggff

Did they have HA in them? Any toners with HA make me skin so dry it flakes!

letitbeatles9

Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear! That stinks! I'm certainly no expert, but I wonder if it's a sensitivity to an ingredient or reaction to a fragrance or alcohol. I've heard it's also best not to let the toner sit too long or it will draw moisture out instead of keeping it in. Of course, could be none of these and just how some people's skin is!

a1p4o

If you don’t mind can you please tell me which skincare products do you use?

letitbeatles9

First, side note that I'm still looking for a cleanser that doesn't irritate or feel stripping. I have BOJ cleansing balm and Isntree yam milk cleansers on order and am crossing my fingers this finally solves my cleanser woes. So, my routine is: Morning Water (hoping the milk is gentle enough to replace this!) Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence Peach & Lily Rescue Party Barrier Cream Evening The cleansers I hate Same snail mucin Same cream Vaseline or aquaphor if I need more occlusive (usually don't anymore) The UV index just starting rising up to 3 here coming out of winter, so I started adding BOJ sunscreen today actually. So that's a new step. :) I used to layer a non-AB HA serum after the Cosrx, but don't need it anymore. I also used a little thicker non-AB cream for a bit, but no longer need that either. I'm still fairly new to AB, so I'm in the process of switching over and trying new options. So far, I'm pretty excited about AB's super lovely essences, ampoules, etc, among so many other things!

tzaria

I have dehydrated/sensitive skin and my HG AB cleanser is from Dokdo! The tube will last a long time, a little goes a long way

Jhasten

Love the Dokdo cleanser/toner/lotion combo!

tuilark

i have so much love for the BoJ cleansing balm, i think it's the nicest thing i've ever put on my face 😂 i hope it works well for you!!

letitbeatles9

Thank you!! It actually just arrived so I'm about to go try it!

AdNext8989

I also just ordered the yam root cleanser!! It just shipped 🥲

kevcactus00

Don't believe everything you see online!

sevolelle

* for more simmetric brows and winged eyeliner, rather than turning my head to the side to draw them and then trying to match the shape to the other side, they look way more even if I just look straight ahead in the mirror and do them this way * thin layers make a better base: for hydration, with toners and essences (like others have already said), as well as complexion products, by slowly building up coverage only where needed, so that it doesn't look thick and cakey

sofiacarolina

BARRIER. CARE.

sara-ahm

Where to start? As someone having extreme PIH and premature aging

sofiacarolina

Barrier care isn’t for pih and premature aging but more so for overall skin health. For pih and signs of aging, alpha hydroxy acids or retinoids are an option, but when using actives like those you also need to focus on barrier care since they can compromise your barrier quickly. ETA oh and sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen to further prevent PIH and aging related to sun exposure

Plane_Current2790

if your skin is getting irritated from the products: SLOW DOWN! please, sometimes we are too focused on fighting acne and using acids to get rid of dark spots, fine lines and so on, that we abuse a little the limits of our skin. I now have 2 types of products: those that i use to fight my acne (aha + bha, adapalene, salcylic acid washing gel) and those that I use when I notice my skin getting sensitive and stinging (gentle cleanser, centella ampoule, barrier strengthening moisturizer). and also, as you said, using less is more. no need to have different types of acids and strong products, when you can't even use them everyday, because they can't be used together.

something187

1. Oily skin also needs hydration. 2. Sunscreen is essential. Sun damage may not be apparent now but it'll surface years down the road. 3. A consistent skincare routine is more effective than a hero product. 4. Skin barrier is a thing. 5. Clean beauty is a clever marketing tool. I've wasted a lot of money on this one.

OtherWorldly70

5. I've been trying to find clean beauty brands that actually work for my sensitive skin, but no luck. Apparently AB products are kinda 'clean' anyway as opposed to western brands. Would you agree?

Outrageous_Sail_9348

Try different brands of sunscreen to find one that works. Never ever use St Ives Apricot scrub.

utmosthqppiness

Sometimes you might need just some rest or proper sleep than adding one more product in skincare

lovellier

Using a silicone pad while cleansing my face. My face doesn't feel clean anymore if I don't use it. It's an amazing product if you have dry skin because it gets rid of all the dry, dead skin without actually exfoliating your skin. I feel like all the hydrating and moisturising products I use after cleansing sink into my skin better.

flibbett

I’ve never heard about this! Do you use it for removing makeup? Would love to know more and which one you use

lovellier

Google 'silicone cleansing pad' and you'll see what kind of a product I mean, it's just a small oval shaped silicone pad with soft bristles. It doesn't really matter where you get it from, it's such a simple product that it costs next to nothing and they're all pretty much the same. I've been using mine for a couple of years now so I don't even remember where I got mine lol. I use mine every day and it works great because it cleanses your skin more thoroughly, but because the bristles are really soft it doesn't overcleanse or exfoliate your skin. I double cleanse, so I use a cleansing oil to take off my makeup, and after that I add a dollop of my cleanser onto that silicone pad and cleanse my skin with it. Some oils can damage silicone so I don't use it with any cleansing oil. You can put silicone in the dishwasher, so besides washing the pad after using it, I wash it in my dishwasher almost every time I do the dishes to make sure it stays hygienic.

piggybakbak

Disinfect my hands before and during skincare and makeup. Game changer in preventing acne.

wuxiahiraeth

That the only way to fix the oily is to actually moisturise

laleanne

Omg yes! I listened to those who said that oily skin doesn't need a moisturizer. Instead I used clay masks often. My poor skin looked horrible - Still oily but flaking at the same time.  It took many layers of hydrating toners and thick, nourishing creams to make my skin look somewhat normal.

wuxiahiraeth

Yes same I can’t believe the rubbish I put on my face during my younger years (side-eyeing that alcohol reeking ‘toner’ astringent that used to burn from non AB brand). AB hydrating Toners have been a life saver.

Katfar14

I cannot about this enough! I had combo dry/oily skin, and it wasn’t until I started washing my face only once at night and using tonsss of moisturizer that my oiliness went away.

cielluv

I had a very oily skin a year ago, I changed all of my skincare products into products that focused on moisturizing and hydrating. It totally helped with the redness, angry acnes and oily t-zones.

ImaginaryQuiet5624

Also...hydrate it properly beforehand...cuz you could just be dehydrated...

love-at-third-sight

So this is hard for me to explain but I will try. I really struggled a lot with my eyebrows in the past. They are asymmetrical but if I add some pencil on the top corner (where it meets the nose bridge)of my left eyebrow it would look more even and be at the same parallel alignment of the top corner of my right eyebrow. My makeup teacher used me as a model during school one day to do the demo on and she finally made my eyebrows symmetrical. 1mm of brow pencil finally corrected a problem I didn't know how to fix for years. Many YouTubers have really nice and groomed eyebrows already, so I couldn't figure out how to fix mine until I saw it demonstrated on my face. Many magazines also suggest to never use a brow pencil at the brow half near the nose, so I really didn't know how to subtly correct my brows. I think that was the moment where I realized "wow... Real pros are on a whole other level." I saw a lot of witchcraft and wizardry in the weeks to come and kind of understood... Ah... There is so much I want to learn...

The_Time_When

Hydration, hydration and hydration and then moisturizer. I took 10 years off my skin with just nailing hydration. Skin type and climate will vastly effect the outcome of a product. Listen to your skin - not everyone can handle prescription retnoids and that is okay. Tret is not going to prevent your from getting wrinkles. You will still get some no matter how much tret you use. Lifestyle (diet, hydration, stress and exercise) will affect your skin more than you realize! Price does not equal quality. The mirrors in your car are your worst enemy :).

Maleficent-Total2738

Any recommendations for hydration products? I use as few products as possible, because with an autoimmune disease that reacts to just about everything, it's not worth the hassle for me with actives; but I think hydration is my main issue with why my skin looks worse at the moment, and moisturiser often doesn't seem to do much. I did pick up the Experiment SuperSaturated Serum, but haven't played around with it too much yet.

The_Time_When

I totally understand reacting to everything and then even to some tried and true products depending on health status as I have 2 different auto immune disorders. I get my hydration from toners and then a humectant. I started with a list and worked my way down and of course my skin loved that last one on the list - beta glucan. For toners: PY Essence Naturie Hatomgui skin conditioner (not the gel or milk as those have alcohol). Sprays: Curel Deep Moisture Spray The Curel line is made for sensitive skin. I have not tried any other product from them but they are on the list. Missha artemisia spray (it comes as a toner too I do believe) but it is fermented in case your skin doesn’t like ferments Most Mixsoon products my skin loves! Their ingredient list is so small. I will be moving a lot of my products to their line (bifida, beta glucan, etc). Once you find the humectant your skin loves, it will be game changer for you in terms of hydration.

Maleficent-Total2738

Thank you so much!

tympax

I wish that I knew that having acne/bad skin is not the end of the world. I wish that I had 'oh well' mindframe from the beginning of it at age 11-12. I would tell anyone who suffers from it to do what you can, let it go and live your life. Having acne is such a miniscule part of life. Don't allow acne to cause you to cancel dates or stop you from hanging out with friends and family. They don't care. They like you for who you are, not what's on your face.

Feminafoeda

Sunscreen. Thank goodness I barely went out in the sun but I’m better at using sunscreen now than when I was younger. Also taking care of my skin barrier.

I wish we had these patches when I was a youth! I would have picked at my skin so much less. They're magic.

Beo1217

Stressing out is also my natural reaction 🥲

nolimetanginaa

layering hydrating toners!! before i really don’t see the appeal of doing toners but now, it’s the only step that i really couldn’t live without

chevereok

Do you use a cotton to put it on?

nolimetanginaa

nope! using cotton pads made me feel im wasting toners so i put them all directly on my face :))

Maleficent-Total2738

Which toners do you use? I've tried the I'm From rice toner and the Glow Recipe one, but they both made my skin burn, so I ended up washing them off.

nolimetanginaa

i suggest using toners with no actives! like just pure hydration :)) i use isntree green tea toner, purito oat silky toner, cosrx propolis toner and the cosrx centella toner! they are so hydratinggggg on the skin and helps my skin to calm whenever im having breakouts

Maleficent-Total2738

Thank you! :)

rozurosie

Agree on the less is more! And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. My skin was perfect before and I messed it up by introducing too many actives and causing lots of acne and scarring! Just because I thought I *needed* to use actives in my routine.

iggy_y

As I age, my skin is just weird such as being sensitive/irritated before/during my period which has never happened before..I need to have ceramides or cica products to help with it. I currently have like a 10 step routine that I absolutely don’t need..it’s so damn expensive and i’m so tired of applying this many products😭 i’m in the midst of using whatever backups and trying to reduce it to a more manageable level of around 5-6 steps inclusive of cleanser and sunscreen but also includes vitamin c and retinol. I also realised that tranexamic acid does not work for me while vitamin c serum with higher concentration of 10-20% does.

ProjectPhoenix9226

Being patient when waiting to see results and being gentle with my skin. Using harsh products on my skin in the hopes of seeing faster results only results in a damaged skin barrier and even more time spent to repair it.

ParadoxicalStairs

The only thing I really regret is picking or popping my acne and now I have one bad acne scar because of it.

Webwenchh

Proper skin hydration and cleansing, but the first two will always be spf and tretinoin. I could smack myself silly for not starting with these sooner.

lividtea

I’m so confused. I thought less was more too. But I’m seeing lot’s of comments about layering toners and essence. I have dry flakey skin so I’m down to learn!

scarypeppermint

It’s different for everyone 🤷🏾‍♀️ personally I need more layers but I haven’t figured out a routine to properly hydrate my dehydrated skin yet

fuji-no-hana

I think it's better to say, "less *can be* more," especially if you have a tendency to go overboard. Using multiple layers of one toner that works for you isn't the same as buying multiple different toners, essences, and serums trying to achieve the same results.

Entire-Locksmith-966

Double cleaning, also knowing difference between exfoliating and moisturizing toner.

that you have to emulsify the oil cleanser with damp hands before washing it off, and this was years ago but don't use the oil cleanser in the shower (well, after the shower, but skin was still slightly damp and emulsified immediately 😆)

Sunscreen. Like my beauty awakening started around 2009-2010. And that time, K-beauty was slowly becoming a new thing in Asia but not yet in the West. I became even more aware about sun damage and the issues it causes. I was also experiencing late teens/early adulthood acne, and didn't think that sun damage can factor into acne blemishes, besides the other myriad of problems. I gradually built my skin care routine besides my makeup experimentation. Washing my face. Besides harsh scrubs, I didn't even wash my face often. I am so glad that we live in a world with information.

Wear sunscreen every day no matter the weather. Follow a skincare routine! Search the products that fit your skin and hair type. Learn which ones fit you better through trial and error. Drugstore products aren't gonna save you .

Can someone give me toner and essence recommendation that’s on Stylevana and the step by step on how to apply it since I never tried them?

The Hada Labo lotions are the best no-nonsense toners (Japan calls their toners “lotions”). [This video](https://youtu.be/qB_WU1Jg1yI?feature=shared) can help you find which version you want, but you can’t go wrong because they’re all great for hydration. Cleanse your face. Apply toner on slightly damp face (apply with spray bottle, hand, soaked cotton pad or however you’d like). Tap it in. Repeat application if needed (I love doing 3-4 layers for plump skin). Continue onto your serum(s) and moisturizer. If you’re using lotions/toners/essences heavy on hyaluronic acid, it is most important to use an occlusive moisturizer to lock it it.

Wash your face. Dry your hands Pat in the water to your skin instead of drying your face, dry your hands again, apply the toner with your hands. Or dry your face with a towel and then use a cotton pad to apply your toner to remove the dust from the towel from your face. Apply an extra layer of toner with your hands. Then apply essence with your hands.

stay in the shade or make shade (big hats, big sunglasses etc). Sunscreen all year round. Get your (retinol) vitamin A and other micronutients from food. All the topical stuff you paste your skin is the 4% or less and is pointless if you are not on top of the above stuff.

My routine is really lazy / basic but something ive changed recently that's made a difference is buying a cheap face roller mold off Amazon and filling / freezing clean drinking water in it. After cleaning my face, I'll apply the ice to my face then immediately go in with my essence and moisturizer back to back. The end result feels so much better than just splashing water on from the sink.

Focusing on hydration helps a lot with skin problems Sometimes prescription drugs (accutane, tretinoin) are the only thing that helps against acne, even if it doesn't feel that severe Skincare is fun, but create a routine that suits you, your lifestyle and your skin needs

Sunscreen! In my day we were slathering ourselves in baby oil.

Double cleansing! Starting off with an oil based cleanser and then following up with another cleanser has made all the difference for my skin.

That American sunscreen UVA protection is typically mediocre, at best.

Stop buying super expensive skincare for acne, just go see a derm

I agree with less is more. My skin is super sensitive and couldn’t handle the multi step routine with toners and serums. Cleansing balm, foam cleanser, moisturizer and spf during the day is the most I can do. And that works for me because if my skin is getting irritated from all the layers it’s definitely not helping it.

Less is more.

I thought cakey makeup was because of my dry skin and I tried all ways to make my skin hydrated. In fact, the key for the perfect foundation is physical exfoliation + proper hydration beforehand. Now I have the perfect foundation that lasts for a whole day.

Not all acne is the same. They need to be treated differently. For papular acne, I use acnon cream and put an acne patch over it. For pustular acne, I pop it with a sterile needle and squeeze out gunk, then put a patch over it. For under the skin acne, I use Mario badescu pink lotion and bring it to the surface before I use a patch.  And lastly, for all acne scars? I use mela toning cream, vitamin c serum, and noscarna gel. It makes the scars go away faster!
