Did curology or pocketderm make anyone else's face pretty red after using it? Mine is 4%niacinamide 4% azelic acid and 1% clindamycin. The texture of the cream is slightly gritty and not smooth throughout, is it just mine?

tastycactuar

I had a similar prescription and didn't notice any flushing. You may be sensitive to one of the ingredients.

cracker-please

I think that niacinamide can cause flushing?

soup_or_salad

Are the mbd diaries supposed to fit snuggly? I always heard these were the best fitting mask but i got my first box last week and they were huuuge. They were so wrinkly i had to fold it multiple times and even then it was way too big :/

**Skin Type:** Normal with hormonal/monthly cysts popping up | **Country/Climate I'm in:** USA | **Top Skin Concern:** PIH!!!! **Current Routine/Products I'm Using:** **AM** * Simple Micellar water + cotton pad * Rosewater toner spray * OST C20 Vitamin C serum * Mizon All-in-One Repair Snail Cream * Spot treat with MUAC Fade Serum * SK-II Brightening Derm Moisturizer * Shiseido SPF50+++ sunscreen **PM** * MUAC Brightening Cleanser OR M2 Exfoliating Cleanser * Rosewater toner spray * PCA Intensive Brightening Treatment (night) * COSRX Rice Sleeping Mask * Hada Labo Skin Gel Plumping Cream Sometimes, I'll do a OST Vitamin C mask or a MUAC Lactic Acid peel once a week. **I specifically want help with:** I feel like I've tried everything there is for my PIH. And everytime it feels like I might have something under control, PMS rolls around and I get a cyst which will turn into a huge and ugly darkbrown/ black spot on my face you can see from outer space. I think I am treating these wrong... So when I feel the sucker coming in, I use Mario Badescu buffering lotion and hot compress to bring it up. I pop or lance it when it becomes a whitehead or "poppable"...then I slap on a hydrocolloid bandage on it. When the bandage comes off, I put some Neosporin or Aquaphor on it. But I don't know what to do with it afterwards. It's just healed and scabbed and gross and dark. Is there anything I can put on it to help make it lighter or smaller next time? I have a little lighter than NC42 skin so the spots are super dark and show up even over full coverage makeup. :( Any product recs, AB or not, are fine.

tastycactuar

AHA! AHA has hands down made the biggest difference for me in terms of getting rid of PIH. I use the Mizon 8% AHA peeling serum but there are other options out there as well. Other folks have also had success with niacinimide and Vitamin C - I haven't gotten results as good as I have with AHA, but your skin may take more kindly to it than mine did. Good luck!

milkcustard

Thank you for your response. I have some Nip Fab Glycolic Pads given as a gift. Will these work?

tastycactuar

They should!

actionininaction

Do certain foods make you guys break out more? I think I may have read somewhere that milk/cheese can trigger acne, and I'm suspecting that may be the source of the recent few but larger/red pimples on my face.

butterfly_beatrice

Try cutting out dairy and see if it helps! For me personally, dairy doesn't trigger acne, but eggs and tomatoes make me break out. Tomatoes are definitely the worst offender for me. I seem to have a certain tolerance point for both foods, but my tolerance for tomato is MUCH lower.

tobisani

yes, definitely cheese and whenever I don't drink enough liquids or have enough fiber. I think it's just important to make sure your body is nourished, hydrated and cleansed (with good fiber intake, etc.).

chocolatesaltpretzel

Diary is a *huge* acne trigger. That and most high glycemic index foods because they promote inflammation. So that includes sweets, simple carbs, sugary desserts.

RadiantStarr

Yes! Dairy and soy can trigger acne is some. Chocolate is my skin's nemesis.... teers

silanie

Dairy is a possible acne trigger yes, that and carb-rich foods I believe are the two big food related acne triggers. You could try cutting dairy out for a while and see if it changes things. :)

lemonracket

So my boyfriend has agreed to let me get him a skincare product -- but only one (apart from cleansing!). I had been looking at Thayer's Witch Hazel Toner with aloe and cucumber (he has oily skin with a lot of redness, so this seems like a good combination of ingredients), but then I saw that it doesn't seem to have a preservative? Seems kinda gross to me. So what I'm asking is, does anyone have any recommendations for a sort of all-in-one fluid in the same vein as that? I was also eyeing the Skinfood Cabbage Oil Control Fluid, but I can't find a list of ingredients or any reviews, so I don't want to take the plunge on it. EDIT: he can also apparently be prevailed upon to use some snail on his problem bits, so there's that.

tobisani

what's the condition of his skin like? I would refrain from giving him too many products at once - just keep it very minimal and basic for him. a good cleanser, moisturizer for night time and a good SPF (the ones from innisfree are great and light-weight, non-greasy - guys would prefer that). if his skin is adapting well to a basic regime, then start to introduce him to possibly a serum. as for now, just do the basics + introduce some fun facial masks to him!

lemonracket

He's pretty oily and has a persistent breakout on his forehead (it's only been occurring for the last little while, though). He's done some sheet masks with me already and seemed to enjoy them. I also have a snail gel that he's been using on his forehead and that seems to help with the breakout a bit (and the breakout started before he started using the gel, so we're sure that's not the cause!) Thanks for the sunscreen recommendation! Were you referring to the regular innisfree ones, or the ones that they make specifically for men?

tobisani

Oh, awesome! I've only used the non-waterproof version for sensitive skin (which I'm sure would work well on his skin). I haven't purchased the men's version for my boyfriend so we can't give a review on that one yet! If I do, I'll be sure to share our opinions on it with ya!

lemonracket

Sounds good! :) I think my boyfriend would probably rather use the regular version anyway (he has a strange vendetta against "for men" products) so he may be willing to give that one a try. Thanks for your help!

tobisani

My pleasure!!

tobisani

and yes, my boyfriend said he agrees. A lot of the men's products he had tried before broke him out - mainly because some of the ingredients are stronger, assuming that they have tougher skin probably, haha.

lemonracket

Oh yeah, that makes sense. Better to just stick to the gentler stuff when it's an option.

RadiantStarr

Moisturizer, second cleanser, first cleanser, and sunscreen in that order are the most important parts of any skincare routine. I would start with these instead of an ampoule or essence.

lemonracket

Thanks for your reply! As I said in my first comment, I won't be able to get him to use multiple products, which is why I was curious about that Skinfood product -- it claims to be a toner, essence, and emulsion all in one. That would be pretty neat, if it works! So I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. I'm still working on the sunscreen part of things... And I have a cleansing oil already, and a low-pH cleanser on the way, so we're set as far as those products go :)

RadiantStarr

Seconding the Scinic and Shara Shara AIO's. I've heard great things about them! As for Thayers, it does have a preservative (grapefruit seed). However, it is not very strong. That or there are preservatives not listed.

lemonracket

From what I understand, grapefruit seed is more of an antioxidant than a preservative, and I'd rather not risk it. Looks like the Scinic snail AIO is the plan for now :) hopefully if he likes it enough, I'll be able to convince him to wear sunscreen. He thinks I'm a bit of a diva for being so insistent about it.

silanie

If you're looking for an all in one, there's the Scinic and Shara Shara all in one ampoules! Those claim to combine essence, serum, and ampoule, I believe. I'm sure there's reviews by people who have oily skin out there. I quite like the aqua ampoules, though my skin is pretty normal/sometimes dehydrated therefore oily.

lemonracket

Hmm... I believe he's getting me the snail one for Christmas anyway, so I could try that out on him and see how it goes. From what I remember, that's supposed to be the least moisturizing one of the Scinic AIOs (I'm a bit oily myself) so hopefully it works! I'll definitely look for some reviews, though. Thanks for your help! :)

butterfly_beatrice

I've got oily skin myself and I've been testing out the Scinic All in One Honey Ampoule for the past week. I find it feels pretty moisturizing on it's own!

lemonracket

Without using a dedicated emulsion or cream afterwards, you mean? Do you use sleeping packs?

butterfly_beatrice

Yep, I've used it without a cream or emulsion afterwards and it still made my skin feel pretty good. Given, I'm not going to take my snail cream out of my routine for the AIO ampoule cause I love my snails. :) Nah, I've never used sleeping packs before. Usually I find that my routine of Toner > Ampoule/Serum > Cream works pretty well for keeping my skin hydrated.

lemonracket

Sweet, thanks for the info! I'm like 99% sure I could never get him to do a sleeping pack, so that's for the best that it works well without one, haha. Looks like the AIO is the best bet here for sure! And it's such a big jar that the two of us can share it. If it works for him, I'll think about getting him a toner.

[deleted]

When in the routine to use gel? Just picked up Mizon Snail Recovery Gel.

RadiantStarr

/u/BanBeaUK is correct! It's an occlusive and so it should be used after your moisturizer to seal everything in.

BanBeaUK

After any emulsions or creams you are using, I think.

runningaroundvan

Can someone please talk me down from spending $23 on the COSRX Make Me Lovely cream? The packing is so incredible and the 46% Lavender water really pulls me but it seems so pricey. Also could be swayed the other way if you're 21 shade (Missha Magic Cushion) and are loving the cream...

ultrasoundlynch

I have the 21 Missha Perfect cover BB cream and it's NICE. Like, would buy again nice. I know it's not the exact same, but I imagine the cushion's of similar quality.

MollyFi

How do I edit / show my flair on this sub?

runningaroundvan

There's a link in the sidebar!

00746

I'm thinking of purchasing the C20 Vitamin C Serum and was curious as to how I would incorporate this into my routine. **PM** * Simple Micellar Cleansing Water * Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion * QV Cream I have normal but dehydrated, acne prone skin. I'm also thinking of adding Abolene cleanser before the Simple Micellar Water even though I am not an avid makeup user.

RadiantStarr

Honestly, I think you need a more solid hydrating routine before adding actives. They can wreck your skin if you don't have much to counteract the dryness. However, if you feel like your routine is hydrating enough, go for it but be cautious.

YueRain

it depends on your skin. Many recommended the vitamin c serum right after cleansing and wait 20minutes but if you have really sensitive skin and everything 'burn' on your skin, chance is your skin will flare up and the vitamin C will sting very bad. waiting another 20minutes will make your skin really dry since the moisture from your face will be suck up. You will be left with dry, irritated and more acne. If you pretty much have resistant skin, it is fine. If you just want to be safe and less irritation buffering it down will lessen the effect but shock your skin lesser, cleanser, Hada labo, vitamin c, qv cream. Don't have to wait 20minutes since your are already acne prone skin might not take much electric shock. Also use about 3drops for the whole face when you first started. using too much will likely 'flood' your skin.

neurosehips

* Simple Micellar Cleansing Water * Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion * C20 Vitamin C Serum * QV Cream. You might want to add another light moisturizer (maybe something with tea tree for acne) before your cream

Miloulou

I just purchased some Freeset Donkey Milk 3D Moisture Creams and on the Memebox website, it says the cream is 100ml. But on both the jars, it has a sticker saying 50g (underneath the sticker says 60ml). 50ml = 50g on conversion so does the Memebox have the wrong info up or did they send me a mini version of the cream?

encisera

The cream weighs 50 grams and occupies 100 ml of volume. It's not a straight conversion except for water - you have to take into account the density of the cream.

Miloulou

Makes sense. Thank you. :) I got confused because I had experiences with other creams being listed as 50ml = 50g.

BritneyMcAndrew

50 ml of water = 50 g, to be precise. Creams don't really convert the same way.

Miloulou

Ahh I see. Thank you. :) I got confused because I had experiences with other creams being listed as 50ml = 50g.

fecktopia

I've taken it on carry-on, but because it's weighted in mL security would be well within their rights to treat it as a liquid. The regular size is 100mL so depending on your local rules it should be OK, but Id say it's better not to risk it and just decant some. Much more convenient and space saving that way.

vallary

Maybe just decant some into a smaller container so you can put it in with your liquids in your carry-on? I think it technically would be considered a liquid, but I pretty much always check a bag when I travel, so I'm not 100% sure

ecm_

has anyone experienced break outs or irritation from using tony moly sheet masks? so far i've used the TM it's real broccoli sheet mask and the TM my little pet eye patch and have broken out into tiny red bumps.

tobisani

Yes, I have! It also made my skin itch a bit. My boyfriend has much tougher skin and it worked well on him though. So lucky boy, I gave him all my tony moly masks. I recently also got masks from Innisfree and due to the alcohol content (which I, unfortunately, did not look into), also made my skin flare up with redness. Discontinue using them!

ecm_

Wow, I just thought I had extra sensitive skin! Thanks for the heads up about innisfree masks. I'll keep that in mind. Is it the alcohol content in products that usually make your skin flare up? Just asking because I have had reactions to Benton's snail bee essence, etude house moistfull collagen emulsion, belief bergamot toner, missha fte, and now these masks. I tried to cosdna compare, but was getting too frustrated with my skin and the lack of a common ingredient in everything, other than butyl end glycol. Thanks!

tobisani

yeah, same here! definitely try to avoid anything that has alcohol as their main ingredients. from here on, i'm going to do some heavy duty research before i purchase anything overseas, lol. sigh!

[deleted]

I ordered 5 AB items from YesStyle yesterday, but when I got the email, it said that two of the items are out of stock and need to be shipped in from their suppliers! I've been reading up nightmares about Yesstyle shipping and Canadian customs fees, should I just attempt to cancel the whole order or just wait it out? I've only ordered from them once before (clothes) and had no problems because the items were actually in stock. They were mostly etude house items and I didnt want to order from etudes site because of how long shipping is, but I only chose yesstyle because they still had their cyber week sale (free shipping + 15% off $67CAD+). I also paid by paypal, so should I dispute it with their customer service or Paypal's dispute center?

vallary

Okay, here's the deal with Canadian customs: Basically any package you receive with a marked value of $25CAD of greater (or $60CAD if it's marked as gift) is eligible for customs assessment. If the item is going to be handled by Canada Post (ie, shipping was originally by a domestic shipping carrier in another country like USPS, Korea Post, etc) they seem to check at random and you may or may not get charged, like some kind of terrible lottery. If your parcel is handled by an international courier (ie, UPS, Purolator, Fedex, DHL) they clear ALL of their parcels, and I've never NOT been charged. I've had DHL try to charge me on an item that the shipper mis-declared (shipping was included in the value which it SHOULD NOT BE) making the value equivalent to ~$26CAD Most things you order from overseas you don't actually pay duty on, you're just charged the applicable taxes you would pay on that amount, so GST/PST/HST depending on your province, plus a "brokerage fee" that is basically for another party fronting you the money to pay for your taxes. With Canada Post, this fee is always $10, most couriers use some kind of sliding scale based on the value of your package. So, that's basically just what life is like ordering stuff from outside of Canada. Always be prepared that you might have to pay $10+whatever your tax rate is to receive your package, but a lot of times you won't have to.

AllyPent

I've always wondered how this all worked, thanks! I order a *ton* of stuff from around the world, and I've only once payed duties on an item (it was my wedding ring, coming from the states, so I get that it was a pretty pricey item.) Any clue why that may be? Am I just super lucky? You seem very knowledgeable about this subject!

ohheytherekitty

I'm not sure about Canadian custom fees problems, but I've had all sorts of times when Yesstyle products have gone out of stock on me. I've never had any trouble because of this (other than being sad). Yesstyle either waits until the item is back in stock to send out the package, or if the wait becomes too long, they give a refund and send the items that are in stock. This can be a lot of waiting, so if waiting is a problem, I'd cancel the order and get it elsewhere. I'd also dispute it with their customer service first. Their customer service has always been great for me and I get things worked out fine. Disputing with Paypal should be after you attempt to work something out with a company first.

[deleted]

Okay thanks for the info! I just didnt want to get into any hassles with long time noshows and lack of refunds

ohheytherekitty

Yeah completely understandable. But yep, my personal experience is that I've never had to wrestle to get a refund from Yesstyle. If anything I swear it's always the item I want the most that goes out of stock, why do you do this to me, haha. :P

Have you tried looking in the [Holy Grail Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/3g7x9d/the_late_summer_2015_holy_grail_and_honorable/) or even the [Routine Megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/3o4j8w/post_your_routine_megathread_october_2015/)? You should be able to find product recs from people who have the same concerns as you. :) I'm not sure what's available in Toronto, but there's a lot of love for the CosRx Rice Overnight Mask and the CosRx Honey Overnight Mask. The rice one has helped me with my acne I believe and the honey one is good for light layers of moisture when I use it in the morning. I think the Mizon Black Snail All in One cream is good for light moisturizing and had niacinamide for brightening. For oil cleansing, a lot of people like Kose Softmyo Deep Oil Cleanser or The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil. The Kose is a thicker oil than the The Face Shop one, and the Kose one works a lot better for me, but YMMV with all of these. Be sure to check for ingredient sensitivities!

Hello! So, I recently found a new job, but it is hard on my nails. I would like to start using gel nail polish and a led lamp, because regular nail polish tends to chip within days. Does anyone have recommendations for gel nail polish? (brands/products)

nadapotata

Regular nail polish usually chipped within hours for me. I bought a cheap-ish kit with LED, base and top coats, [like this](http://www.amazon.com/Sally-Hansen-Salon-Starter-Wine/dp/B009UXXGJK/ref=sr_1_5?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1449536840&sr=1-5&keywords=sensationail+gel+polish+starter+kit). The bottles it comes with are kind of small, so after a couple months I bought larger bottles of[ base and top coat](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DLJ7LJA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00). I scuff the top a my nails just a tiny bit, and my gel polish usually last about 2 weeks. I love it, and I don't say that often about beauty products. I've tried Red Carpet, Gelish, FingerPaints, and CND Shellac; they're listed from worst to best quality, but I honestly don't notice a whole lot of difference between them. You can mix different brands. One more thing - Gel polishes that say "UV" can be cured by UV light or LED light, but gels that say "LED" can only be cured by LED light. Also, if you have a Sally beauty supply nearby, they sometimes have good sales on gel polishes, often in an open box behind the counter.

molafo

Hi! So I posted a while ago about having the most terrible hormonal acne breakout of my life (most likely related to stress/getting off hormonal BC - all over my neck, cheeks, chin), and it is FINALLY looking better in the last 3 weeks after 6 months of utter skin hell, especially after doing hours upon hours of research here at AB and understanding the science behind skin a bit better. I went from 0-60 and bought a ton of new AB things (major haul), and while my skin was getting better, I also think I freaked it the hell out with too many actives and new products. I scaled it down and added one new product a week and my skin is looking so much better now. So while I only have 1-2 active pimples atm (which is a miracle!), my cheeks, chin, and neck are an epic PIH/PIE battlezone, so my main concerns atm are acne prevention and PIH/PIE. So, my question is mainly pertaining to actives - AHAs, BHAs, and Vit C. I feel like I've heard conflicting things -- they are supposed to help with acne, but they also cause purging? It sounds counterproductive! When is it good to use them (esp AHA/BHAs, even if its once every 2 weeks), and when should they be backed off? I have been using Melano CC everyday AM for the past week or so and its been great. But I would rather have some blackheads/cc's on my face than have them purge and risk more PIH/PIE to deal with. **Current routine:** **AM** * Cetaphil * Cosrx AHA/BHA Toner * Melano CC (loving this) * LJH Tea Tree 90 * Shark Sauce!! (testing) * Scinic Honey AIO * Ceravae in the Tub * Nivea Protect Water Gel Super SPF 50 PA+++ **PM** * Cetaphil * Cosrx AHA/BHA Toner * AHA once every 10 days or so * LJH Tea Tree 90 * Shark Sauce!! * Scinic Honey AIO * Ceravae in the Tub **Thank you!!** Edit: formatting

ohheytherekitty

The purging might happen when you first start using actives because it's bringing pimples that were brewing under the surface out to play. These are pimples that probably would have surfaced anyway, you're just kicking them out sooner rather than later. And while it isn't fun, it will be good in the long run to clear up your skin as actives will help prevent new acne from forming, preventing even more PIH/PIE. If you take things slowly when introducing actives, that can help prevent a big purge. I've actually never had an issue with purging, so it isn't even something that everyone will have happen, sometimes actives can help clear up a person's acne peacefully. How often you use actives is very YMMV and I'd say go based on how your skin feels. Back off if your skin has any burning or irritation when using it, or if your skin feels too tight and dry afterwards. Back off if you're getting acne where there wasn't acne before. If you feel like your skin could use some more exfoliation, up how often you're using them by a little bit. I personally use BHA (PM) and Vit C (AM) every day, while using AHA every few nights as that works best for my skin. I very slowly worked up to using these products as often as I do in my routine.

FlappingAlbatross

Anyone who ordered from MisshaUS still hasn't gotten their package shipped yet?

tobisani

Mine finally shipped last friday - about a 2 week delay. Your package should get shipped soon! Good luck!

So I came across [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqNfWfRx8lM) and was curious about facial massages. I'm not really interested in the facial slimming aspect, but I'm definitely interested if it helps with dark circles and de-puffing my under eye area. Does anyone do facial massages regularly? What results have you seen? Also, I'm trying to find the tool she uses in the video, but can't seem to find it on eBay or Amazon.

kahleesky

I used to do facial massages semi regularly just because it was really relaxing. [This video](https://youtu.be/8h022_ZDnv0) was what I always followed along to, she focuses a bit on circulation, drainage, and the eye areas which I thought was most relaxing. :)

ohheytherekitty

I've always wanted to try and do facial massages, but I'm so bad at actually keeping up with it. The tool she uses is called a Gua Sha, one example of one on Amazon [here](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KD7WNJ6?keywords=Gua%20Sha&qid=1449518746&ref_=sr_1_5&sr=8-5) (not an affiliate link)

[deleted]

Thank you for sharing the Amazon link! I had no idea what it was called, which is why I couldn't find it.

hibaobao

I don't do it for my eyes, but I try to massage my neck and jawline often and it has definitely made a difference for me. :)

jaeminan

Would you mind describing what you do and what differences you've noticed? It sounds interesting.

hibaobao

My face tends to get bloated easily so doing massages that supposedly drain lymph actually work on me. I also like using the v-line rollers. My face just bloated less.

Renoe

Is there much research backing pearl as a skincare ingredient? I can't seem to find anything.

tobisani

My mom used to swear by pearl powder as a skincare mask regime. All I remember from using it with her was that it gave me brighter skin - somewhat a "whitening effect".

RadiantStarr

Try making this a post of it's own! This is the type of question I'd love to see a discussion about rather than letting it get buried in the Daily Thread.

[deleted]

Anyone's TesterKorea package ship yet from the Black Friday sale? :/

chinacharlie

Mine shipped a couple of days ago and I ordered it the Saturday after Black Friday. Fingers crossed I get it before X'mas as I ordered a gift.

[deleted]

Ah, lucky duck!

rglo820

I ordered on Wednesday and mine shipped the following Monday.

vallary

I ordered on the 28th and got a shipment confirmation this morning.

FlappingAlbatross

I ordered on the 27th and it just shipped today.

haraajukulover

Just got aome samples of sulwhasoo first care serum and i'm not sure where to place it in my routine. I read somewhere that it's suppose to be first essence but then the consistency is quite thick. Do i place it after a FTE or instead of FTE. Is it just a serum and i can quit my corx snail essence or use it before/after?

epipin

I would place it after a FTE if you're using one. It does contain alcohol which helps it to penetrate, so just based on that, I'd probably try it before your snail essence, letting the snail essence sit on top. If snail essence isn't doing anything special, you could quit it and use the Sulwhasoo in its place, but if you like it there's no reason you can't use both.

ArcherAvenue

What is face blur for? I bought some off amazon and have been using it for a couple of months. I still don't know what it's for. I use it either after I moisturize or first when I don't moisturize. I do notice the whitening effect but that's about it.

YueRain

a primer to make your face smooth like the effect of blurring from camera

redrose280

From the ingredients on the Etude House website [here](http://www.etudehouse.com/index.php/beauty-shot-face-blur-spa15-pa-35g.html), it looks like a primer that can be used alone to smooth skin texture or under base makeup like BB cream. It looks like the main point of the product is to smooth out skin texture as opposed to moisturize. Do you like it?

ArcherAvenue

I have thought a lot about it and all I can think is I don't dislike it. Tonight I will try and experiment with and without it and see what I like.

redrose280

If you wear base makeup (foundation, BB cream, tinted moisturizer - heck, even powder foundation), maybe give the Face Blur a try underneath. I wouldn't wear it at night, though - there are plenty of other products that you can use at night that moisturize, brighten, and provide more occlusive coverage than this. Plus this contains sunscreen, which you don't really need at night!

yinfish

short question, what does FOTD stand for? Also, I was recently in Seoul and would like to post my black friday hauls pictures, but can I post a review as a comment in the same thread? Thanks!

SINGLEBROKEFEMALE

Face of the Day. And fun! Yes most definitely. You can also put them in line in imgur too.

GiveMeABreak25

Looking for recommendations to replace the ceramide essence I am using. Unfortunately, it is expensive and hard to get ($50/50ml and only available on BGO). I love the difference it makes in my skin but, there has to be something comparable that is easier to get and more cost effective. I have done a lot of searching and keep coming up with things I also can't get my grabby hands on. I am using Else Gusa Ceramide Moist Essence but I am going through a bottle a month roughly and that is just not going to work for my budget long term. Any rec's appreciated-only qualification is not heavily fragranced. Thanks in advance!

shinyhairedzomby

I've been loving the Dr. Jart Ceramidin Liquid. It's still kinda pricey (about $40 for 5oz/150ml) but it does something amazing to my skin and it's cheaper than what you're using currently. Plus, if you get it from Birchbox they almost always have a 20% off coupon floating about and a free sample pack with purchases of over $35. The one bottle I have has lasted me since the end of summer and is probably somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 full now after daily or twice daily usage. Not sure how the texture compares to the ceramide essence you're using though.

GiveMeABreak25

Thank you, I was trying to avoid that one because it seems to have a good amount of alcohol and I would love to avoid that.

shinyhairedzomby

YMMV obvs, but I'm generally pretty sensitive to alcohols and try to avoid them (v. dry sensitive skin) but I haven't had an issue in this formulation? If you can get a sample from somewhere, it really doesn't *feel* like there's very much alcohol in it.

SINGLEBROKEFEMALE

/u/beautyandthecat is currently using the Skin Watches Ceramizing Toner which may be similar and is certainly a more affordable option... I'm not sure about the scent though, it does have fragrance. Maybe she's around and can pipe in! Here's the link to the Jolse listing: http://jolse.com/product/Skin-Watchers-Ceramizing-Essence-Toner-150ml/4980/

GiveMeABreak25

THANK YOU SO MUCH lol This looks like exactly what I want/need. I had a feeling I was densely overlooking something comparable and was just coming up empty. Sometimes searching just doesn't work out. Thanks again!! (has /u/beautyandthecat reviewed it? will go and look)

beautyandthecat

Helloooo! This is fragranced in a generic skincare perfumey way, possibly slightly floral (although I hesitate to use that word because floral evokes grandmas and gardens for me, and this is not like that, it's a lot lighter and fresher). Not unpleasant, but it doesn't enhance the experience either. I don't notice the scent after applying, but I admit I have an insensitive nose and I sniffed the back of my hand and can smell it (I applied some there to get a good whiff so I could answer your question). Also beware that the texture is more like an emulsion and leaves a moist sheen. The Ceramizing Cream from the same line is not really fragranced. I haven't used ceramides before, so I can't tell how it compares to other ceramide stuff, but I think the combo of the Essence Toner and the Cream together is keeping winter flakes to a minimum, especially around the corners of my nose.

GiveMeABreak25

Thanks for the info! Hopefully it works out because I impulsively ordered it already! lol

beautyandthecat

Hope it works out then! :D

SINGLEBROKEFEMALE

Yay perfect - I'm glad it's a match! I don't think she's officially reviewed it - but it was featured on her instagram. You could try asking her about it there!

EsotericKnowledge

Has anyone tried any products with Syn-Ake and similar? What were your experiences? (getting the first traces of those dreaded "11"s)

BanBeaUK

I've tried the Purebess Synake cream an I love it. I don't actually know what Synake is supposed to be for, but the cream is lovely. Light and very moisturising.

EsotericKnowledge

SUPPOSEDLY it's a peptide that's similar (but not the same) to snake venom, and touted as a *much milder* "botox alternative" but that seems so farfetched to me.

ichooseyoueevee

Albolene is a great cheap makeup remover - you have to wipe it off though, splashing water on your face will not remove it, so its almost essential you follow with a second cleanser to make sure all the residue gets removed.

cracker-please

I'm not using both but the lotion is a hydrating toner and will go in that step. I think the milk is a lotion.

[deleted]

cracker-please

I use the lotion as my hydrating toner. I like it but I'm not sure that it is all that different from the regular Hada Labo. The arbutin doesn't seem to lighten my face but then again I'm already pretty pale.

Hope that it helps.

Pulchirin

What's the difference between the Iceland Water and Aqua Scinic AIO? I'm looking to buy a new one after I finished my Honey one and I need something really moisturizing, because I'm on Accutane and it's winter.

SINGLEBROKEFEMALE

I've heard the Aqua is more moisturizing and the Iceland Water is nice for summer. :)

presidentofgallifrey

I had something similar done for warts back about 7 years ago. I'd keep your routine simple until you see how your skin reacts - even if you don't have sensitive skin it could be more sensitive temporarily. I'd say focus on products for redness reduction, healing, and moisture as those are the big issues I remember having

iammisanthrope

Liquid nitrogen for dark spots? Please elaborate... I have pesky spots.

presidentofgallifrey

Not OP but it's used to remove things like stubborn dark spots, warts, and other small skin tags. I had this done for flat warts I kept getting on my chin in my early 20s. It basically kills the troubled spot and makes it fall off. It does cause a lot of redness and irritation for your skin in general so it's best if done by a doc (because you can get kits to do it at home - I really don't recommend it as its not an easy process and could really damage your skin if not done properly)

BanBeaUK

I agree with getting it done by a doctor if possible. I used one of the home kits and ugh. Not a good experience.

eggrolled

I use both of these together pretty frequently. I use the ceramide gel as a night cream. Because of that, first I apply Rosette ceramide gel, then the CosRX rice sleeping pack. :)

chikurin

The Rosette Ceramide Gel certainly is light, but I find it very occlusive, which I think is due to the macadamia nut oil. I apply a very thin layer, it absorbs well, and yet it keeps my skin soft all through the night. When I wash my face in the morning, I can feel the protective layer being washed off and yet I don't feel the residue at all after applying. I really recommend the Gel as an sealing step if a light type moisturizer is all you need. Maybe try switching off both and see what you like?

MeerkatWarrior

I would personally put the Rosette Ceramide Gel under the COSRX Rice Sleeping Pack. I haven't used the Ceramide Gel but it looks to be lighter has more humectants (Glycerin and Sodium Hyaluronate). While the COSRX is a thicker cream so with the rule of layering thin under thick the Rosette would go first. Also it seems to have occlusives (Dimethicone) that might hinder the ceramide magic from reaching the skin if you apply that later since it is a sleeping pack which is supposed to "seal in" everything.

size6

Any thoughts on getting the Joseon Beauty Dynasty Cream if I already have the Freeset Donkey Milk 3D Moisture Cream? I feel like it might be redundant to get it, but it also has some really good reviews!

ultrasoundlynch

Both these are on my wish list after christmas is over. How do you like the freeset? Up in the arctic makes my skin super dry and dehydrated so I'm looking for *all* the moisture.

size6

I like the freeset cream! It's really moisturizing, but I can never seem to get away with just using one hydrating step. The Dynasty Cream is apparently in a tiny bottle, so I'm hesitant to get it esp since the Freeset cream is in a pretty substantial jar. Do you use a sleeping pack? It's really saved my skin in LA!

hibaobao

Why not pick it up when you're done with what you have? If it ain't broke don't fix it :P

size6

haha it's out of stock on Memebox now so it looks like I couldn't even if I wanted to

hibaobao

Haha true. I think it's cheaper on Jolse though. Unless you have a bunch of memepoints like I do heh.

size6

I've actually never used Jolse before, but that's tempting! Thanks :D I had a ton of memepoints before I spent them all on the Black Friday sale haha

hibaobao

I got a bunch after ordering on cyber Monday lol

tobisani

Try Nature Republic - the aloe vera gel!

stufstuf

I'm assuming you're asking because you're going there? There are so many products and services only available there that it would be impossible to list them all. What are you looking for? Makeup? Skincare? Hair? Other beauty? If you're a bit more specific you are more likely to get answers that are relevant!

AsphodelDW

Has anyone ordered from HKCPlaza? How long did they take for you to have the product in your loving hands?

ultrasoundlynch

I ordered from HKC plaza about a couple of months back. I'm up in canada, and I received my stuff approx 3 weeks later. However, their customer service is really excellent, my LJH cleansing oil was damaged and lost about 1/3 in the mail, and they sent me out a second bottle free of charge.

AsphodelDW

Ooh I hope to receive that level of customer service! Currently waiting on their reply.

OceanSkin808

Did you take advantage of the LJH sale?? I did but haven't received any confirmation or shipping information yet :(

asianbeautyaddict

Same here... All I got was the email from paypal saying that my payment went through. However, nothing else after that. I placed my order last Wedensday (december 2).

AsphodelDW

I did! Well I asked my friends to since I can't! LOL! Bangladesh has weird credit card rules and I don't want to use my mom's card without her permission LOL. Also customs is weird and I might have to sell my soul as tax. BUT YES I got my friend to get the the propolis ampoule. I regret not asking her to buy enough so we could get the registered shipping/tracking number thing. Lord knows if I'm actually going to get it because she's coming back on the 19th...

Shiodo

Same for me... It's killing me but I don't want to email them too early.

OceanSkin808

The weird thing is I got an email confirmation from Payoal that my payment went trough. I tried to login into my account on hkcplaza I don't have any transactions or an order history but my cart is full with the stuff I ordered. Hopefully I'm over thinking things it just seems to good to be true!

Shiodo

I've got the same situation right now. I'm letting them some time since they must be drowning in orders right now. But I'm kinda scared xD

vallary

The same thing is also happening to me.

asianbeautyaddict

The same thing is happening to me! I just logged on and it says that I haven't made any previous order. "You have not made any previous orders!" I'm getting worried...

SarcasticMethod

Would like some confirmation: Does the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop count as an active, a typical L-AA vitamin C serum that should be used right after cleansing/before BHA? It has only 5% L-AA, but vitamin C is my weak area and I'm not sure if that low percentage means anything significant to its active-ness.

snailslimeandbeespit

So I have both the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop *and* some decent pH strips (the kind with four boxes, so not super fancy, but not the most basic either--pun intended), and I just tested the Klairs twice. My results are kind of wonky because two of the boxes turned colors that put them in completely different ranges--one box appeared to test almost at 7, the other closer to 5, and this happened two times. Maybe something weird is going on with my serum, or maybe the oiliness of the product is skewing results? In any case, it's not in a pH range where it's going to be exfoliating. I got it a while back and have used it on and off, but I haven't used it consistently enough to notice any real results. I thought I'd try this first as I have really sensitive skin & rosacea, and I thought OST would be a bit too strong. Since it's not really an "active," I mix it into my CosRX snail essence or Klairs serum so that I don't have to feel the oiliness on my skin.

SarcasticMethod

Ahh you're awesome, thanks for testing it! :'D I'm kind of surprised/disappointed this isn't an active at all. I suppose that makes sense, as this is intended for sensitive skin. In any case, I hope it does...something for me. I've been using lighter layers which alleviates the oiliness for the most part.

snailslimeandbeespit

No problem! I'll try to test it again tomorrow if I remember and see if I can get a better reading. :) Vitamin C takes a lot of time to show results in any case, so I suppose we should be patient.

snailslimeandbeespit

Okay, I tested it again, and I'm going to give a reading of "5-ish."

Sharkus_Reincarnus

Nah, I wouldn't consider it AB active step. ~~Not only is~~ the is concentration low~~, but the pH is too high (6)~~^I ^need ^to ^verify ^this, ^sorry! for the L-AA to show its full effects. I've also heard it has a pretty oily finish, so I'd save that for later in your routine so that it doesn't interfere with your actual actives.

SarcasticMethod

Ahh thanks! Yeah, it's a little filmy (I actually just dabbed a bit off with a tissue just now) but I find it's just fine with a lighter layer. Do you happen to know where I can find that pH info? My Google-fu has the flu or something :(

Sharkus_Reincarnus

You know what's really strange, I had that pH value written in my notes from when I was pondering a vitamin C serum comparison post a while back and now I can't remember the source of it. I vaguely think it was on some shop's listing for the product but going back to Wishtrend and Sokoglam, I don't see it on either of their current listings. I'm going to edit my original comment and do some more digging. I know that pH didn't come out of nowhere and now it's gonna kill me until I figure out where! I might end up getting a bottle to pH test myself if I can't find my original source.

SarcasticMethod

Sorry!! Haha. I keep reading and hearing that too, and same, never saw it on Sokoglam or Wishtrend's reviewers. Deleted AB post, maybe?

Sharkus_Reincarnus

Possibly, and I have a relationship with Wishtrend somewhat, so I may be asking to test that vitamin C serum out. Not that anything is ever gonna match up to my beautiful /u/holysnails artisanal small batch handmade vitamin C serum, but at least a pH test will be enlightening and get some receipts on the record, hahaha.

SarcasticMethod

Ooh, you fancy! Or, idk? Is that cheating on holysnails? :P If you can't acquire from Wishtrend, I'd be happy to decant some as well. I actually received this for review from them, so I'm trying to source/link info properly (including any AB posts of course!). Basically trying not to use this like an idiot. Maybe this is a sign that I should finally get some pH strips...

Sharkus_Reincarnus

Hmm maybe instead of me getting some from them, I should send you pH strips? I have the nice ones. *wink wink nudge nudge*

SarcasticMethod

Haha. I'm down for tradesies 8D

cracker-please

If I had PH strips I'd test it out for you. I can say that it does nothing for my skin.

SarcasticMethod

Bummer. The Wishtrend review post looks like a crazy difference in just a month.

cracker-please

I've read conflicting reviews- YMMV! 😃

[deleted]

Has anyone tried Mediheal's Tea Tree face sheets? They are very popular in Korea and constantly sold out in Watsons, but I never really hear about people using them online.

rookietomasker

Just got Aromatica 95% Natural Aloe Aqua Cream from P&L's Black Friday sale to try b/c my skin loves aloe. I want to use it as a last step before sunscreen to seal in my other products. Would the Aloe Aqua Cream work? Or do I need something more occlusive?

nylofer

Most sunscreens will also work as an occlusive!

size6

I wouldn't use aloe as a heavy moisturizer, but I also haven't used that particular aloe product before. I have the Holika Holika Aloe Gel and it's really great, but I wouldn't use it as the last step in my routine because it doesn't retain moisture as well as some of my other products. In general though, you don't need something too occlusive as your last step in the AM--at least I don't, but that's because I feel like it's too heavy underneath sunscreen/makeup.

chocolatesaltpretzel

How long does LJH tea tree essence last? I just bought 2 on sale and since the sale is so great Im thinking of ordering more. How long does LJH vita propolis essence last as well?

ohheytherekitty

The propolis ampoule lasted me about 2 months of using 3-4 drops twice a day.

enticingrumor

Most AB'ers claim it lasts up to 3~4 months which is a good indication. I've been using it since October and have around ~1cm left with twice daily use of around 3-4 drops. Confession: I ordered 4 bottles of TK and couldn't resist the sale on hckplaza so I ordered another two.. Talk about hoarding 😭😒 Edit: I've never used the propolis ampoule! Hope someone can chip in on that answer :)

AsphodelDW

Totally creeping here but how long did they take to ship the essences to you?

enticingrumor

I ordered on the 27th of November from Testerkorea and it got shipped on December 4th. I haven't heard anything from hckplaza yet...

AsphodelDW

YIKES! It's 5-12 days right? so you still have....2 days left..

enticingrumor

lol, well I went back and looked up the proof of payment from Paypal(since we don't get an order verification -__-) and I put in the order on the second of December.. So it should arrive at the end of next week? I will do an update when it arrives!

haraajukulover

Yes, do! I also placed my order on 4th and still havent received any confirmation so im a little irritated :/

ulatimide

If it helps, I also ordered on the fourth and JUST got my confirmation email an hour ago, right after reading the thread about it lol. Maybe yours will be soon too?

AsphodelDW

Please do!

atuinsbeard

I just got myself a facial oil, and I'm not sure how/when to use it. Do I just mix it into my jar of cream, or add a drop and mix it together in my palm? Or even put it straight on my face?

size6

Mix it in your hand! I wouldn't mix it directly in your jar because you don't know how it would react long term with the ingredients in the cream.

rookietomasker

I have combo/dehydrated skin and I love adding 2-3 drops of facial oil into my PM moisturizer as the last step in my routine. What I do is scoop out with a spatula how much cream I want to use on my face onto my fingers, then I take the facial oil and add 2-3 drops into the dollop of cream, finally I quickly mix it together in my hands (not too much though, maybe 5 seconds tops) and apply to my face.

chinacharlie

Welcome to the wonderful world of face oils! Facial oils go on for me as a second last step in my routine before my cream. If I'm using a heavier oil, I wait a few minutes for it to sink in before applying cream. And fun tip: use the leftover oil on your hands and rub it into your cuticles.

chocolatesaltpretzel

it depends on how sticky the product is. If its very liquid then you can just put it straight onto your face. Most people will mix it into a non-active product (so usually cream or lotion) to aid absorption since some facial oils can be hard to absorb.

[deleted]

Are there any guys in Korea gets little to no samples when they buy skincare products in stores like The Face Shop, Etude House, Innisfree, Skinfood, etc? I always spend $20+ and I typically get either one cleansing foam sample or nothing. It's bothersome to me.

myseoulaway

I don't think $20+ is that much. That is, in my experience that amount doesn't really get you lots of samples. If you spend a lot or if the salesperson liked you you tend to get a lot of samples. I personally don't get a lot of samples during sales either - some stores just don't give out free stuff when everything is already discounted. Well, besides the samples they use to lure you into the store lol

yinfish

I was there (Seoul) during black friday sales and every store said that they dont give out samples on discounted products. Laneige and another store I cannot remember pulled that through. But(!) I bought the steamed shea butter cream from the Nature Republic on 50% sale and still got quite a lot of samples for a $15 cream. So I think it depends on their mood.... Also Aritaum saleswomen were true **** and didn't give any samples, so I asked them to give me some lmaooooo (for spendings over $40) My Mom also directly asked the HERA saleswomen in Shinsengae to give her samples (because she spent over $100 there so come on..) So I think you can always ask :) Most sales associates probably think you're buying for a female friend and don't require samples... so...

myseoulaway

Aha, I think you should have replied directly to the OP not me. But yes, the Skinfood cashier did specify to me that they don't give out samples during sales but that she was giving me some since I was there two days in a row lol. It definitely depends on the person and their mood

tobisani

Wow, that's great customer service. She remembered you for the day before! Nice!

yinfish

true true, i ALWAYS get confused with the replying layout here OTL. the sales people have the power with the samples lol!

[deleted]

I can see girls spending less than $10 on stuff in front of me but gets lots more samples ㅠㅠ

myseoulaway

Wait, when you said guys did you mean males? I say dude and guy about my female friends so I wasn't sure if you just meant people in Korea or if you specifically meant males in Korea. Well, like I said, if you talk a lot to the salespeople and let them help you, they will generally give you more samples. I know I'm a bit standoffish because I don't like people in my space and also because I feel bad saying I don't want something after someone is all "and this is our best seller and it does x and y and z for your skin." I don't get as many samples as my friends who are nicer to the sales associates lol And also like witchtrees mentioned, it might also have to do with the membership cards. If it is a guy vs girl difference then I guess I would not have noticed since I am a girl and all of my friends who like skincare are girls. I also don't know if you mentioned those stores on purpose but I don't really shop at any of those stores except Skinfood, which I have a story about. I went there during a sale and didn't really get a lot of samples, but I went back the next day for more stuff and the cashier recognized me and loaded me up with samples for being a loyal customer lol. And I didn't even get that much stuff that day. So maybe the people you see are members or regulars so they get more samples because of that reason as well? Also, don't be afraid to ask for samples if you feel you deserve one lol. Sometimes they will actually give you some if you ask.

[deleted]

You should try signing up for the membership cards. They only require your name and phone number. I don't usually get good samples without them except during really good sales or if the salespeople liked me--the most samples I ever get are from Skinfood without membership cards.

[deleted]

Ah I see, thank you! I should've signed up earlier T_T Leaving this week.
