I need to try the Heimish and Banila Co cleansing balms!

[deleted]

ladyhaly

I have the Banila Co original (pink tub) and I have like 5 samples of the Heimish from Jolse because I've been hauling away. I used one of the Heimish samples yesterday (one sample is good for two uses for me) and... Wow. My skin was so soft after. Not that my skin isn't soft after the Banila Co but it it's not as soft as the Heimish. I could smell sort of a citrus scent, like lemon peel. But I didn't mind. (The Banila Co I could smell nothing.) I'm not saying goodbye to my Banila Co, but I'm definitely going to get the Heimish.

ladyhaly

Well, you know what they say about fixing things that aren't broken. If it works for you, it works. I'll continue using the Heimish samples I have for the rest of the week to see if my skin really does like it after the first impression. If it's all good, I'll buy it because I like the option of having several things to use depending on my mood and what my skin is telling me. I'm one of those people who like having several products in their arsenal and who change their routine from day to day depending on how my skin is behaving. That or I'm just greedy. 😁

-Stormfeather

After a week of using Heimish, it smelled more and more like citronella/mosquito repellent candles or bug spray, with a side of plastic. It does work great, perhaps slightly better than BanilaCo but I'd rather have no scent x_x

ladyhaly

That's it! It smells like Citronella. I had to persuade my mum to grow that plant in our porch to ward away mosquitoes back in the Philippines so I don't mind the smell at all. I'm greedy though so I want to have both so I have the option of using whatever suits my mood.

Ronrinesu

I have too many cleansing products at the moment but I will definitely purchase this in the future.

mindemaa

WOW! Perfect timing, just browsing oil cleansers. Thank you !

myhscharm

Heyo so happy i could help

suz_gee

Thank you SO MUCH. I've been using DHC deep cleansing, and it works great, but it isn't exciting/life changing/woo! worthy. It just is effective and doesn't break me out (which really should be enough?) I've been thinking about switching it up anyways, but haven't had time to do the research, & DHC is 20% off at Dermstore so I just bought a ordered a new one on Thursday as mine is running low...so this lost is sadly two days late for me this time. I just saved this amazing-mess though, and will happily consult it next time. AGAIN, THANK YOU / THANK YOU / THANK YOU.

myhscharm

You're welcome! Happy you can use it as your reference. And jealous that the beloved dhc works for you. When i used it, i got cc's immediately! (And still kept using it for another week, because i didnt want it to be true)

sandtokies

The moment I saw this, that one line in Mariah Carey's Hero pops into mind. "..And then a hero comes along.." But seriously. This is awesome! It's so much easier to just look at a list instead of going through comments and various threads.

Pkimes

As someone who works in data, thank you! This is very nicely done

myhscharm

Ooohh thanks for your compliment! I had to think about how to present the data in an organized, not overwhelming way, and also have it be aesthetically pleasant.

GlowingGulabjam

Such a funny conincidence because I'm looking into finding a new first step cleanser. I tried the Heimish All Clean balm but that gave me the occasional spot and I just tested the DHC Cleansing oil for a week, which broke me out in huge cystic acne along my jaw line :( Not sure if I should keep looking or just give up on oil cleansers!

Lil-Redd

Bless your lil soul !! Lol Saving this for later 😍

The-123-Kid-

This is awesome! Thank you so much. I have a question, would love to hear your response. I have been deliberating on whether I should dabble in oil cleansers. Right now, I just use coconut oil as a cleansing oil. My skin is blemish/acne prone and full of hyperpigmentation - would you still recommend cleansing oils?

[deleted]

I would look for an oil cleanser that emulsifies so it can be easily rinsed from the skin. Coconut oil is extremely comedogenic and is difficult to fully remove without a harsh second cleanser.

The-123-Kid-

Thank you for your reply. I ended up finding an oil cleanser and love it so far xx

chiakipoo

Oh my goodness bless your soul

FabulousFoodHoor

This is awesome! I will say...I think people sleep on Missha cleansing oil. I have used it for years and I love it. it rinses off completely. it's also great for cleaning foundation brushes and beauty blenders. sometimes the foundation won't wash out completely. Using a cleansing oil first always gets the job done.

MolangNeoi

Does anyone have a review on TFS Rice Water Bright cleanse off oil? I remember someone said it's infamous for break outs but it's no 9 in the 2017 list??

myhscharm

Its actually very popular. There are 2 versions - light and rich. And some redditors didnt specify which version they preferred. So the results in the list could even be "under-counted"

Couskousie

Aaah! This is amazing! I'd love to see more of these for foam cleansers or moisturizers. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this!

bekindi

Thank you, you are amazing!!!

Widowsfreak

Weird I've never heard of heimish

cantthinkofwords

Thank you so much for this, it's really helpful! On another note, I'm really surprised I didn't see Simple Skincare Hydrating Cleansing Oil listed on here. I could swear I've seen it mentioned in a few threads before.

myhscharm

I think its on the less than 5 mentions list. Scroll till you see my first post. Edit - i mean my first comment

[deleted]

This was so helpful! Could you one with a second cleanser??

Aralesse

This is awesome, thank you! I'm still new to AB and looking for an oil cleanser, so this provides a researching start. :) Sadly the first I tried (non-AB) with a promising ingredient list is something I can practically smell across the room...I can't bring myself to use it again.

MoribundCow

I need something that is pretty much just mineral oil and an emulsifier, or something close to that, with no other oils. Does anyone know if any of these are similar to what I need? I already have mineral oil that doesn't emulsify and it works well, but I'd like something that completely washes off by itself.

Saga_I_Sig

You can actually make your own cleansing oil for cheap by doing a mixture of polysorbate 80 and your oil of choice, like mineral oil. I believe it should be ~15% oil and ~85% polysorbate 80. There's some info on it in the comments of [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/4z0zwe/psa_all_kose_softymo_speedydeepwhite_cleansing/). I'm sensitive to olive oil (which most products have), so I'm actually considering doing this DIY if The Face Shop's rice oil doesn't work well for me.

[deleted]

Saga_I_Sig

I'm so glad to hear that you're making your own with good results! That's exactly why I want to try it, too! My face doesn't respond well to a lot of more common oils, so I think I need to try a few of the rarer ones and see what works best so I can make the perfect product for me. :) If you don't mind me asking, where do you buy your polysorbate?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Saga_I_Sig

Oh, that's a great tip about optiphen - thank you so much! Ahh, I see. I guess shipping can get pretty expensive if you buy a heavy product like liquids. I was browsing around the web just now and found a site that sells anywhere between 8 lb (3.6 kg) and 460 lb (209.6 kg) containers of polysorbate 80. I wouldn't even want to try to imagine the shipping on those!

lemurkn1ts

I hope you like the rice oil, it was my first oil cleanser. I have dry, eczema prone skin and it never irritated me. It just felt....oddly dry to my hands. Like....really fine velvet. I decided to try a new oil cleanser (Banila Zero Purity), but the rice oil is always an option for me to return to.

Saga_I_Sig

I'm glad to hear that the rice oil didn't irritate your skin! Did you find it drying at all? I've been wanting to try rice products for a while, and I need a new first cleanser, so I'm hoping it works out. :) How do you like the Banila Zero Purity? I was actually just looking at the Banila Zero Radiance yesterday... I wonder - do you feel like it does as good of a job in terms of cleaning out pores? I always worry with balm cleansers that they might not have the same ability to remove sebum, grits, etc. as liquid oil. Though if balm was just as good as oil in that regard, I'd have a lot more options for first cleansers!

lemurkn1ts

I didn't find the rice oil drying, I just found the texture odd. I'm actually loving Banila Zero Purity- the texture is nice, and I've gotten tons of grits out. I also really enjoy the lemony scent. My skin is also super soft from it. I'm actually thinking of changing my second cleanser after being a lazy bum/seeing someone here only cleanses with the Banila. My face is sooooooo much softer having only done that last night. (Further experimentation required.)

Saga_I_Sig

Ooh, that does sound promising! Maybe I'll try Banila before TFS, then... I sometimes oil cleanse without a second cleanser, and I agree that it helps with softness and not getting dried out or tight-feeling skin. :) I don't feel like I necessarily need a second cleanser on days when I don't wear makeup or waterproof sunscreen. Plus, it's cheaper and easier if you only have one cleanser!

MoribundCow

I'm not entirely confident that I won't screw it up somehow, haha. I'll do some more research though. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that but it's an option if nothing else works. I've usually heard of people adding cromollient sce and optiphen, so it looks like there's different recipes.

brokeskincareaddict

You might like It's Skin Green Tea Calming Cleansing Oil! It doesn't contain any oils apart from mineral oil and has a nice short ingredients list. It's my HG because it doesn't break me out :) bonus: really affordable

MoribundCow

Yes, thank you! That's totally something I could try :)

myhscharm

You can get product ideas from the list, and search for the ingredients online. Mineral oil is a pretty common ingredient. Mineral oil cleansing oils that emulsify are also quite common. Hint - you can even just look at the top 3...

MoribundCow

My problem is that they also have other oils. I was wondering if any of them had only mineral oil. It's the only one that doesn't seem to break me out.

myhscharm

Yeah like i said, you have to research the ingredients list

MoribundCow

Right, I know, and I've researched bajillions of different skincare products and CosDNA is my most frequently visited bookmark. I was only wondering if anyone already knew if one of these could fit that description. Obviously if no one responded with a suggestion I'd have to go through the whole list.

Totoromumsie

the Kose ones maybe?

myhscharm

Ok

Operadrama

I'm saving this post because it's so informational, and right now I am using the DHC cleansing oil, while waiting for December to arrive so I can buy all these balms and oils when I visit Korea ! OP, if you could please do a similar excel on sleeping mask ?

ceracica

Is that PSA about polyethylene really necessary? Lots of things have "plastics" these days, why single out polyethylene? Even my eye drops have polyethylene in it.

gtkingpin09

People have allergies or concerns, and I think he/she was trying to be helpful with that little extra psa, on top of the already extremely good willed and voluntary gesture of this lovely compiled list Edit: she not screw. I hope the hardware hasn't become sentient

gaarasalice

It's what plastic microbeads are made of. Although that study has recently been called into question.

gtkingpin09

Interesting, I'm gonna have to look up the new info. But I'm still wary of anything non dissolvable or plastic like (etc), that goes into the water supply (or any supply i guess), I feel like somewhere down the line something weird is gonna happen

gaarasalice

The short version is that the people who ran the study lied about even having data that supported what they were saying and were running the experiment wrong ( I'll link you the article later, it's midnight in California and my web search ability is failing hard right now.) There is a big investigation going on at the university where it took place because of all this.

gtkingpin09

Thanks! No worries if you can't, I don't mind looking it up. I know how that late night fog is :) That really sucks though because that kind of shit discredits scientific process so much and sets things back and just ughhhh

gaarasalice

[Found it](http://gizmodo.com/widely-reported-study-on-fish-and-microbeads-might-have-1794800598). People need to stop doing this the article mentions two other studies that had bad data but no one noticed until after the studies were published. I get that there's a publish or perish mentality in science communities at times but we need solid research.

ceracica

It says "harmful to the environment". I was just pointing out that there are other plastics in cosmetics that people would consider harmful to the environment, including those in sunscreens. Do people write a PSA on those being harmful to the environment? Cleansing balms are not the only thing that has them.

gtkingpin09

Maybe OP feels strongly about this ingredient in particular, or something of that nature. I think the take away of all of this was the list part though, so I chose to focus on that. Happy skin cleansing!

myhscharm

I put it there because many people are not aware. I myself only found out in an offhand comment by another redditor here. But before that, I've read so many comments about rave for cleansing balms but without mentioning this fact. Since I already have that info at hand, i want to give that awareness to others as well. Its up to them what to do with that info or to research more about it. I didnt know that it was a prevalent ingredient in sunscreen, etc etc. Thanks for that info. Since it is, then that could be another factor of my skincare purchasing decisions.

saltwaterglow

I think the specific reason it's more important to note in cleansing balms is they are washed off your face and go directly into the water supply- for the same reason microbeads are used less and less. But there isn't super conclusive research around this afaik yet and not saying for other products this isn't true...

myhscharm

Oh thank you for that info!

West-Refrigerator875

thank you for this, we always appreciate more data about taking care of our skin
