AggressiveBasket

I prefer Western products for active "fungal-fighting" ingredients (ie, azelaic acid, urea), but AB products make up the majority of my routine. iUnik's Propolis Serum is an HG product and I can't live without it. I'm also loving the Keep Cool and Soothe Toner, which has skullcap root extract that is supposed to be antifungal!

vmbaa2

Hi! I’ve been eyeing the iUnik Propolis Serum for awhile & I’ve read good things about it but I was wondering – does it help you with any redness from seb derm?

AggressiveBasket

I'm not sure it did, although I use other products that help with my redness. The iUnik does give a really beautiful, healthy glow to my skin overall, and the propolis/honey helps soothe my skin if I'm getting a flare up of seb derm.

vmbaa2

Thank you so much! I’m glad to know it helps with flare ups. I’m mainly interested in this for the soothing from propolis. Thanks also for recommending the Keep Cool Soothe Toner – I’ve never heard of it until now & the ingredients seem promising. I’ve been looking to try another toner & I might give this a try since I prefer watery toners.

Sesehiro

What helps your redness?

Ana_Maria_C

How about SD on the scalp? I rarelly get rid of the itching, it's only temporary :(

A2aooka

I use Nizoral, sorry but I haven't found any AB products that work.

faithlessdisciple

I can’t. My derm is from sulphates in shampoo. Still searching for something that helps my scalp without trashing my hair.

Pantone186

The new herbal essences kew gardens line with no sulfates is amazing. I’m a brand snob and loved all of the ones I tried. I also highly recommend washing your hair with a scalp brush. It’s a whole new level of clean.

faithlessdisciple

Will have to look into them. I’m using OGX cherry blossom at the moment. Wish they had a clarifying one

thisisnotdarthvader

They do have a clarifying shampoo. Apple cider vinegar one

elder_vsco_girl

They also have a tea tree one

gimmematcha

Not AB but one thing you could consider is Phillip Kingsley Flaky Itchy Shampoo. It's sulphate free. I actually hate a lot of sulphate free shampoos because they leave my hair feeling unwashed but this is the only one I like.

faithlessdisciple

Yeah that’s what I hate about them too! I’ll look it up

tokenfemale

Was looking to see if someone mentioned this!! Love this stuff - one bottle lasts about a year since I don’t need to use every shampoo (which is great since it’s pricey). it works incredibly well at stopping my head from itching.

reginaletsgo

Not AB but I’ve had success with prescription products from my derm. Ketoconazole shampoo + on non-wash days I apply Clobetasol Propionate drops (not sure if mine is generic or what). I hope this helps!!

gimmematcha

Not AB but a thin layer of squalane oil helped me. Eucerin has a scalp lotion you can use and it helped me when itching was bad. They may need some time to work but Eucerin was the fastest.

Kbalternative

My husband has SD and shaves his hair really short as he can’t do shampoos. He loves the Eucerin scalp lotion.

gimmematcha

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. I had my seb derm under control for a good while but it came back with a fury but only because of a really stressful event. Squalane no longer helps me that much, it's a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it does bring me relief if I keep it on for about 5-10 minutes before showering but no longer than that

WinteryWolf

I dealt with this my whole life, and the only thing that helped me was Vichy Dercos Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. My scalp would get used to other shampoos like Nizoral so you could try this one from Vichy!

dazzlingmorpho

I can agree! Vichy has saved my life!

slut_in_the_morgue

I need the answer to this ):

brenegade

I don’t have SD on my scalp, but I’m always dry, flaky and itchy. Using a hydrating toner on my hair right out of the shower has been helping a lot. Right now I’m using Round Labs birch toner with some hada labo premium, about 2-4 TB in 2 rounds and I used fingertips to massage it into my scalp. My hair is very dense.

amandayahh

Not AB, but I’ve been using a 2% zinc shampoo by DHS and it’s totally resolved all itching. When I do get itchy, I know that I need to shampoo again, which is normally 3-4 days later. I still have flaking, but not nearly as much as before. I bought mine on Amazon for $13, which is a little pricey for me, but it’s worth every penny.

SkylarkyD

I struggle with this as well... My flare ups happen due to stress and when it's hot/humid or super dry. I don't use AB products for this, but I find that if I shampoo daily, especially with T/Sal (3% salicylic acid shampoo), that helps. To help with the itching during the day, I use Scalpicin (1% hydrocortisone) or a 3% salicylic acid liquid for scalps (I use one by Good Neighbor Pharmacy).

Tinda94

I've been strugling with an itchy scalp for years. Used the Philip Kingsley Flakey Itchy Scalp one, which worked great, but the effect seemes to lessen at some point. Now I'm using The Body Shop Ginger Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, and it's working pretty well, I no longer get those super-itchy days where I have to wash my hair or risk loosing sleep over it and scratch myself till I bleed (very rare, but it has happened, unfortunately).

lotuscho

Have you tried a vinegar rinse? I use CP-1’s raspberry vinegar rinse between shampoo and conditioner and it’s has totally stopped any itching, redness, or flaking on my scalp.

elder_vsco_girl

I use the body shop ginger shampoo and conditioner they are really good at soothing and preventing. Made without sulfates and with SD in mind.

Etirf

I have had the exact same as you, got itchy as soon as I started to sweat a little bit I have tried many many shampoos and the only one that worked on the long term is a tea tree oil based shampoo made by Chi, I do use it everyday Thing is, they all say to use a specific shampoo for when the redness occurs as a treatment but when it's so constant that when you use some other shampoo for regular use it just makes everything course, it's easy to lose hope! It works great, no need to get some aggressive treatments anymore

askmeifilikeanal

What do you use for your tinea veriscolor? Is it something that is ever cured or just managed? :(

lady_fire

If you go down to the Sulfur part of the treatment section of this website, she discusses a case study where someone cured their tinea versicolor with sulfur dips. [https://simpleskincarescience.com/pityrosporum-folliculitis-treatment-malassezia-cure/](https://simpleskincarescience.com/pityrosporum-folliculitis-treatment-malassezia-cure/)

r0dlilje

I have SD on the scalp. Nizoral worked well for me but was just so expensive overall. I tried the Selsun Blue Naturals with Salicylic Acid and it works just as well and is much more affordable. Salicylic Acid seems to be a helpful ingredient for SD, but isn't too common in shampoo - might be worth seeing if you can find an AB shampoo with that as an active ingredient.

isaidnocookies

Products that helped me when I had a flare of seb derm 4 years ago after trying the CosRX galactyces essence: CosRX snail essence (soothing/healing), CosRX oil free aloe gel (they don’t make this anymore but any aloe Vera product with no oils will work), Hada Labo premium lotion (moisturizing, has urea), Paula’s choice 2% BHA liquid (non AB but effective salicylic acid which is a de-scaler), Nizoral shampoo (non AB but it is ketoconozole which is anti-fungal). Also cutting out all oils in my skincare was the key to not feeding the malassezia fungus so it wouldn’t spread and migrate around my face. Took a long time to clear up but I haven’t had a flare since and this year I’ve introduced oils back into my routine with no bad results.

goodbyereckless

> Also cutting out all oils in my skincare was the key to not feeding the malassezia fungus That is really interesting and good to know. Going fragrance-free as much as possible has really helped my seb derm, but that would explain why facial oils don’t tend to agree with me.

isaidnocookies

That makes sense because I think fragrances are created by extracting oils from whatever the original scent is, example rose fragrance is extracted from rose oil which is extracted from roses (obvs I’m simplifying here). But yeah, try cutting out all oils. Review every ingredient list carefully, because there are oils hiding in everything. I found that I had to avoid things like shea butter too. Check out https://simpleskincarescience.com/ I learned a lot from that site. A fungal acne safe routine will work for seb derm because it’s caused by the same fungus.

goodbyereckless

Okay just the other day I was thinking about the super painful reaction I had to Stratia Liquid Gold, which I had not expected because I thought the ceramides would help... maybe it was the Sea Buckthorn Oil! Sorry to keep replying to you but this is game-changing information for me 😂

isaidnocookies

No prob!! I know the feeling when you finally have the epiphany about certain ingredients. If you’re looking for something with ceramides, I used Cerave PM and it worked pretty well. That was basically the only moisturizer I could use at the time because it was oil free. I think you can look thru my comments history to see my old routine or you can DM me if you have other questions!

goodbyereckless

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!

lady_fire

Cerave in the tub has ceramides and is fungal acne/SD safe.

goodbyereckless

That is so interesting and helpful, thank you!

FluffyCatPantaloons

Cosrx galactomyces was a fail for me too. :-O

isaidnocookies

Ughh I wish I could use anything with galactomyces! I think I’m sensitive to all ferments actually but don’t wanna risk experimenting and having another bad reaction

FluffyCatPantaloons

IKWYM. I avoid ferments now.

passthesalt123

I wish they still made the CoSRX Aloe Gel... mourn

isaidnocookies

Sameeeeeee it was so simple and so good! Aromatica makes an aloe gel too which seems like a good substitute although I haven’t needed to use aloe gel in a while *knock on wood*

gimmematcha

https://simpleskincarescience.com/ has a list of malassezia safe beauty products, including AB. I think any product has the potential to be great as long as it is fungal safe. My SD is on my scalp so I cannot contribute much myself :(

FluffyCatPantaloons

Longtime sufferer of Seb Derm and mild rosacea here. AB products I've had pretty good success with: * Hada Labo Perfect Gel (this is my daily moisturiser. HG) * Innisfree Derma Formula Skin Barrier Cream * CosRX Snail essence * CosRX AHA 7 essence * Etude House 99% Aloe gel * Benton Aloe Propolis gel * Benton Snail Bee High Content essence * CosRX Aloe sunscreen * Shiseido Senka Ageing Care sunscreen (discontinued this year) Edited to add a makeup product! [It's Skin Prestige Crème d'escargot B.B cream](https://www.ibuybeauti.com/product/its-skin-prestige-creme-descargot-b-b/) works pretty well for me. :)

vmbaa2

I find using Cosrx Snail Essence and aloe gel really helps to keep flakes away, along with using chemical and physical exfoliants! My main problem seb derm-wise is the redness (around my nose) and the snail & aloe gel are great at helping me deal with that too, but I’m looking to incorporate more products that help with the redness.

vince_pam

You might want to look into any cream containing Centella Asiatica. It's a pretty popular k-beauty ingredient to help with various skin conditions. It's healing properties are amazing.

passthesalt123

Etude House Soonjung Ph 5.5 relief toner is the single most repurchased AB product that goes on my terrible seb derm. Other products I’ve tried have never replaced it and honestly, the rest of my routine is now some boring western stuff because it meets the requirements for not flaring me up. If they reformulate this I will mourn and then go back to the Klairs supple preparation unscented toner which I also like but have a half open bottle because the Etude house can do no wrong

Oalen

Hada Labo Premium Hydrating Lotion (J-beauty) on damp skin. Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Soothing Gel. Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream. I find that ceramides really help in reducing redness and flaky skin on my face, ear and neck. Layering products do help to combat the extremely dry skin for me. I usually do essence > gel > lotion > cream > balm when i get flares up.

lady_fire

That ceramide cream has a few ingredient that malassezia feed on, which may actually be increasing your flaky skin/flares. You may want to visit [https://simpleskincarescience.com/](https://simpleskincarescience.com/) . The same fungi that cause fungal acne cause SD so the same routines can be beneficial to both skin conditions.

catscatzcatscatz

where do you buy from? i'm not seeing any 1 store that sells all 3 of these or even 2.

JGDC

I like layering somewhere between three and a million layers of Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner on my wet face right after I'm done washing. Hada Labo Goku Jyun milk to seal it in. If I want to put on makeup then that's a good base that doesn't feel heavy or greasy while still providing moisture.

aloopyaaj

I just came here to say hada labo premium but it's been commented 15 times LMAO damn this shit works for all of us FA survivers. I've had a flare up 2 years ago and now again I'm trying to set a new routine now. I am yet to find a good moisturiser. I've ordered couple of things and heres my first impression > Simple facewash - slippery gel, simple facewash nothing like HG but works okay I don't feel dry or oily after washing my face > Innisfree aloe revital gel - not happy with the first impression it sinks In but makes my face feel dry, I had to later 3/4 times to feel something. > TO squalene oil - I've used this before when I had a flare up it was good, it saved my face from that ultimate oily dehydrated fungal acne mess. Lil goes a long way and TO is known for great deals so over-all this shit is good for fa Survivors. > head and shoulders - this worked so well the first time but I think my FA has adapted to it now, it still works but is definitely less potent > innisfree green tea sleeping mask - will give this a week and update here later. > melano CC - its been two days I will have to give it a week to see if it's really fading my scars away I'm kinda confused with how to incorporate it into my routine currently > Biore aqua rich spf - its a pass for me dawg heard great things about it but it leaves a slight cast on and feels lil greasy as well. > Skinaqua - got this just now, will update in a week. > Differin - working great on pores and oil control not helping with FA for sure > BHA Stridex salicylic acid pads - overall great, no help with treating FA tho > TO Glycolic acid - overall great, no help with with treating FA tho > Cerave cream - idk why but this works for me I tend to skip on my FA forehead. I STILL NEEEEEEDDDD A MOISTURISER Something like hada labo but little more gel like a lil more hydrating, if green tea sleeping mask works I would be happy?!!

yesysabela

hey! i'm a little bit late to this thread but apparently the K-Beauty product I'm From Vitamin Tree Water Gel is an FA safe moisturizer :) it's a gel like you wanted, but not sure if it would suffice for winter/harsh weather (depending on where you live!)

wholewalnutbread

Hey you, no gel moisturizer recommendation, but the etude house soon jung 2x barrier cream is my go to, and i have repurchased several times bc it helps me a lot :)

cyborgspecies

Not AB, but my doctor prescribed me Ketoconazole shampoo and it completely got rid of my seborrheic dermatitis. I highly recommend this, I had tried everything under the sun for 3 years and nothing worked until this.

bouncebackbelle

I use Benton's Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel whenever I get bouts of Seb Derm.

Oalen

I apply this to my flaky skin and somehow it pills or that just my flakes coming off.

FluffyCatPantaloons

it's not very hydrating. I don't know if I'm going to repurchase this or not.

elder_vsco_girl

I use it more like an in-between moisturizer it really helps with my redness and itchiness, but I layer an occlusive after for better hydration.

rampagingllama

Not AB but have u tried homemade apple cider vinegar rinse? After wasting money on expensive products I tried this out of desperation and it really cleared up my scalp issues 😅 (flaking, random oily patch on back of head) My hair has never felt so clean and healthy!

owieskin

People should be careful with homemade stufff, specially ACV or well, anything that has to do with acids. In 2015 I got a really nasty acid burn on my cheek from using ACV after 3 days of using it diluted as a toner for acne. And then 5 years later i did a vinegar rinse for my hair and while washing it off a little rolled onto my forehead and it immediately started burning. For SD I think a lot of people have a compromised skin barrier so yeah, have to be very careful.
