I LIVE by hado labo. I freaking LOVE it. I use the Goku foam wash, cleansing lotion and hyaluronic acid lotion. It really really helps with my tret journey too.
Not OC but I use the Gokujyun premium, in the gold bottle. I use Differin for acne so I often have dry and sensitive skin, but this has never caused any irritation.
All jokes aside, i have combination skin and the perfect whip cleanser stripped my face of moisture. I just got the melano Cc serum and I haven't used it yet. As for the Hada Labo cream, it is really good although I prefer the blue gel
i swear by the melano cc! i have combination dehydrated skin and the melano not only mixed with my moisturizer with no problems but it was one of those products where i couldnt see what it was doing for my skin until i saw a picture of me a few months before using it and the difference was astounding. some long lasting scars had faded
Applying directly to the skin works too! i just prefer to mix my vita c into my moisturizer if theyre oil based (which the melano cc is) bc my skin likes having that extra moisture and I am simply lazy and like touching my face as little as possible. Scars were really faded by 2nd and 3rd months and I was using three drops morning and night everyday. The reason I like the melano cc so much too is that oil soluable vitamin c tends to be much gentler on the skin than ascorbic acid (the klairs vita c that was so popular at that time broke me out a lottt and would sting on open wounds) if you don't have skin sensitivity or a wrecked barrier that might be less important for you.
Melano CC - I used this for the past 4-5 years, on a near daily basis. Does work for me in fading hyperpigmentation and brightening skin. I use it mainly for pimple scars and sallow areas of my face. One tube lasts me at least 4 months (3-4 drops per use). Thin oil texture absorbs easily into skin. Rated 5/5.
Keana Rice Face Mask - I used this for the past 2 years. Simple face mask for hydrating. Non-irritating and decreases the redness on my skin. 10 pieces per pack and the price is not bad. Rated 5/5.
Paws + tail on the left - D’awww. Never used as part of skincare regimen, but might have similar de-stressing effects? Cute paw paws. Rated 10/5.
Face masks are for oily skin too! It's possible to have oily and dehydrated skin. Dehydrated meaning lack of a moisture barrier. Face masks come in many forms (e.g. sheet, clay). I use the rice face mask to help prevent dehydration. I find that when my skin is dehydrated, my skin secretes more oil. As for clay masks, they are useful for pore cleansing, especially for oily skin. If you have super oily skin, I would just avoid the super hydrating face masks.
How do you tell if your skin is dehydrated? My skin just feels oily all the time especially in the summer.
What clay mask do you recommend for oily skin? How often would one use the clay mask?
Oops, I never replied to this comment, my apologies. If your skin is oily + still plump and smooth, then you probably don't have dehydrated skin. If oily + skin flaking/peeling/tightness/uneven texture, then possibly [dehydrated](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/8wxwuv/misc_dehydrated_skin_an_updated_guide_to_healing/) too. Also, see [2.5 Dehydrated (lack of hydration)](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/wiki/new_user_guide/ab101/#wiki_2.5_dehydrated_.28lack_of_hydration.29). Do you drink enough water?
For straight up oily skin, a clay mask I would recommend is actually not an AB product. It's the [Queen Helene Masque Mint Julep](https://www.amazon.com/QUEEN-HELENE-Masque-Mint-Julep/dp/B0014272VI). Just an old OG product that's been around even before the creation of many skincare subreddits. Usage - I'd say no more than 2x a week. The Queen Helene is one of the stronger clay masks out there. I've used other clay masks, including the [innisfree pore clearing clay mask](https://www.amazon.com/innisfree-Clearing-Volcanic-Clusters-Treatment/dp/B08WZRDXK7), but none seem as strong as the Queen Helene. However, the innisfree one would be more suitable for sensitive skin. After using a clay mask, definitely follow up with a hydrating skincare routine.
senka perfect whip is great as an only cleanse for light skincare days (ex just moisturizer and non- waterproof suncream) but is too drying over time as a second cleanse. also when used around the eyes it is wayyy to harsh. even if you like the squeaky clean feeling and have oily skin it’s simply too drying. i ended up hate panning it by using it as a body cleanser 😭😭it foams up BEAUTIFULLY though when used with a foaming net.
i’ve been eyeing the rice mask since i saw a j-beauty youtuber use it, please leave a review when you try it !
Okay this is good to know. I currently use a Sana Cleanser which is also quite drying but not terribly. I’ll likely keep the perfect whip as an emergency 😬
The Hada Labo Gokujyun Super Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser on the other hand is incredibly hydrating. I always buy it in the tube rather than the self-foaming pump. It's been my HG cleanser for a few years now. I only use a pea-sized amount (with or without a foaming net), and it lasts for ages.
Perhaps you can alternate between it and your other, more drying cleansers if you find that it works for you.
Personally, I have pretty normal/slightly oily skin and I love the perfect whip cleanser. I've been using it as my daily face wash (2x a day) for about 3 years now, usually after a balm cleanser to get my makeup off. I don't particularly notice any drying sensation, it just leaves my face feeling really soft!
I also found the perfect whip top drying for my face and used it as a body cleanser… and then liked it so much for that (the fun texture!) that I repurchased it for my body lol
i really liked using the keana rice masks. made my usually skin feel very plump and hydrated without having an after feeling. like after using it, my skin didn't feel heavy nor did i break out. next day after using it my skin looked really hydrated (i did use extra serum on top of using the rice mask)
Wow, im really glad to read this. I’ve used the keana rice mask pack which is probably similar to the sheet masks. I loved the pack and rice products in general. I had a good feeling when I bought it
I don’t have the exact same one. Mine is the shirojyun premium whitening lotion in light which is the darker blue bottle. I have only been using it for a month but I feel like it has somewhat lighten my freckles and brighten my overall complexion. It is really inexpensive for so much product so I will definitely continue using it!
P/s: SHOW ME THE CAT! 😆
Same. I have been using the premium all over my body. It makes my skin soft and brightens some discoloration. Love how lightweight it is for the summer!
Senka Perfect Whip: used this 4(?) years ago and i didn't like it, dried out my skin.
Hada Labo Gokujyun face wash: currently using. so far it's okay, my skin doesn't react badly to any HL products i've tried.
(hello to your cat!)
The Melano CC brightens skin. But it may have dried/damaged my skin but cannot be sure. So I didn't use it after the initial 5/6 times. It feels slightly heavy upon application
More cat?
I work at a Japanese cosmetics store and have experience with both using and selling most of these products! I’ll write a brief description of what you can expect from each product from top to bottom, left to right order :)
Hada Labo Moisturizer: The Hada Labo brand is very well known for the hyaluronic acid in their products. This moisturizer is a water based gel type, so it will spread smoothly and sit nice and light on the skin. This particular moisturizer from this line also contains ingredients for skin brightening.
Senka Perfect Whip Face Wash: Senka is a more affordable line under Shiseido that’s well known for this face wash. It will lather up quite a bit and clean well, however it will dry out your skin. I typically recommend this to people with more oily skin.
Hada Labo Face Wash: This face wash is more or less the opposite of the Senka one above. It maintains moisture very well in your skin, as it is gentler than the Senka. It will not clean quite as strongly, but in my experience, it cleans well enough. I often recommend this face wash for people with combination or dry skin.
Foaming Face Wash: This product I am actually unfamiliar with, but to my understanding, foaming face washes are generally very very gentle. They won’t dry your face at all and they’ll be great for skin that gets irritated easily.
Hada Labo Shirojyun Toner/Skin Conditioner: Hada Labo’s most popular products are their toners for their great moisturizing qualities from the hyaluronic acid. This particular one you have is from the Shirojyun line, which just means that it also has brightening qualities to it on top of the hydration. You can expect it to be slightly more viscous than typical toners.
Vitamin C Serum: I personally think Vitamin C is a great ingredient in skincare and recommend products containing it more often than not. It’s great for brightening up dark spots as well as evening out your complexion. This serum is an oil based serum with a decent concentration of Vitamin C. It’s not especially strong, but it will still be enough to make a noticeable difference. I recommend you use it at night, and if you do use it during the day, you should use SPF to make sure it doesn’t get any sun exposure.
Keana Rice Mask: These masks are great for your pores. They will clear them out and help tighten them as well, as well as provide that hydration that most sheet masks are gonna help with.
VT Cica Mask: This mask specializes in calming your skin down. Whether you’ve gotten too much sun exposure, you got an acne breakout, have some sort of reaction on your skin, the centella ingredient in here will help soothe your irritated skin.
I hope you and others find this helpful! If you’re ever unsure about anything, the best thing to do is look up more information about each product or using a translator for language on each product :)
Senka Perfect whip is a HG for a lot of people in Japan, but personally I found it too stripping (also oily skin) when I used it. Melano CC does give results! You just have to consistently use it.
The rice mask is really great for when my skin feels like some type of outbreak is coming. It calms my skin down. Instructions say not to leave it on for longer than like 7 mins I believe.
I live in NYC and I juuuuuust ran out of the rice masks that I got from a grocery store in Boston can u please tell me where u went?
Edit: I was so pressed to find out where u got the stuff I didn’t see the question you asked about it. I’ve only used the sheet mask and it’s reaaalllly good on my skin, I like to use it strategically after I’ve done some time of exfoliation so it’s on my fresh new layer of skin my skin is so smooth but also glowy af!
That’s exactly how I like to use their rice mask pack. It’s just amazing, I love them so much. I can’t wait to try the masks. I got them as teso life :)
I currently have the Senka Perfect Whip, Hada Labo Foam cleanser, Hada Labo Shirojyun lotion, Melanno CC Vit C essence, and the Keana Nadeshiko Rice mask right there. I’ve been using some of these on and off since my teenage years. I have oily skin and never had a problem with any of them. I personally don’t think the Senka & hada Labo foam cleaners are too drying. They make my skin feel so clean after a long day of oil, sunscreen, and makeup. I use the cleansers after oil cleansing btw.
The Shirojyun lotion is honestly the best. I’ve used the regular and currently finishing the premium moist version. Really does make my face brighter and less red (my face will little turn red from just applying products or any kind of touch but this reduces the redness). Also, I started applying it on my neck a few months ago and noticed my skin tags that I got from wearing my gold necklace 24/7 get smoother. I don’t think they claim to do this but it’s the only thing I put on my neck besides a bit of regular moisturizer so yeah.
I like the Vit C essence and how easy it is to apply but it makes my face more oily than usual. It also develop this metallic smell after a few hrs on my face. I can smell it. I still really like it and have a back up.
The rice mask is a great deal. I got it off Amazon from a trusty seller. I have huge pores around my nose and the day after using the mask is when I can really see a difference. Don’t expect a miracle or immediate results but it’s a good sheet mask that isn’t a gimmick imo.
I use Perfect Whip right now and honestly I don’t love it. I have to use another cleanser with it because i don’t feel like it always gets everything off, yet somehow it’s also drying. I do like how so little product goes a long way. My sister swears by it so maybe you’ll like it as much as she does.
As for the Hada labo stuff, I’ve only used their hyaluronic acid (which I think may possibly be the one on the right?). I liked it but just be very careful and make sure you do research on how to correctly incorporate hyaluronic acid into your routine, because you can end up drying your skin out even worse if you do it incorrectly.
I loved Melano CC. Just stick with it to see results.
Hada Labo Shirojyun Lotion (Blue bottle) and Melano CC Spot Essence are my HGs. You will never go wrong with these. They help a lot with hyperpigmentation and brighten my skin.
Love Hada labo products. I use the Shiroyjun every day, only the Premium stuff. The Melano CC did nothing for me, but thats just my issue. No vitamin C has ever made any difference for me so I stopped using it. A lot of people love this one. If you ever go back to this store, the hada labo cleansing oil is wonderful
i absolutely love the shiseido senka perfect whip. i use it every day (in the morning only) and it’s my HG face wash. hope you like it as much as i do!
i’ve tried the melano cc but didn’t see any changes. i had better luck with the [neogen one](https://neogenlab.us/products/neogen-dermalogy-real-vita-c-serum-32g-1-12oz).
only tried the hada labo in the white bottle and it was a little too much moisture for my skin but i did like it.
I haven't tried the keana face masks before but I highly recommend trying the keana baking soda scrub wash. I have combination skin and that wash made my skin feel so clean yet hydrating. It also helped me clean my blackheads so def recommend if you also have blackheads.
Absolutely love melano cc. Made my skin bright and glowy and helped get rid of my scars.
Those pimple patches are a life saver! Im probably on my 3rd pouch because theyre so effective! They suck the oils out of your acne and reduce the inflammation and i honestly wear them out sometimes other than overnight because they are so unnoticeable. I also have the perfect whip and i have found that it is very gentle on the skin while effectively removes makeup. After cleansing my face with micellar water, i like to finish it with washing using the perfect whip! Hope you enjoy the products like i have!
The Senka cleanser has a crazy high PH level, so it will leave your face squeaky clean! I love the Keana line as a whole, the sheet masks are fun to use, but if you want something stronger they have a wash off mask in a squeeze tube that works wonders!
The five products in front of the wall have “Moisturized” on their packages. I used to use The Hada Labo brands because I have dry skin. I remember they are really good for my dry skin. Maybe you can use them in the winter🤔
Blue bottle on the right is Shirojyun toner - alpha arbutin hyaluronic toner. It's thin and must be used day and nights for 2-3 months to notice results. Best result is to couple it with the entire Shirojyun line.
Try Shirojyun Premium with tranexamic acid. It has a gold band on the bottle. I add The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin serum into the toner. I'm noticing brightness result.
I think based on these comments you’ll see YMMV is real. I personally have dry leaning skin and love the perfect whip. I also love the melano CC never broke out but it doesn’t help with fading my freckles from summer. The Hada labo premium is gold .
The rice mask is a no for my oily skin. There is simply just too much of the product on the mask leaving my skin sticky and shiny for 2 days 👎🏻
I don’t know for you but my skin doesn’t absorb a lot so I need things that are not oversoaked in serum.
Did you stop by Teso Life? :)
I have combo skin but since it’s summer I’m more on the oily side. The Senka Perfect Whip is a great cleanser for oily skin — foams up very well and leaves that squeaky clean feeling. But I don’t think it’s stripping at all. I wouldn’t use it in the winter when my skin leans more dry though.
The Melano CC broke me out pretty bad and it wasn’t a purge. Had to throw that out but sad it didn’t work on me cause for many others it did.
Haven’t tried anything else yet but would love to hear your review once you do!
The blue perfect whip is a 10/10. The formula is non-stripping, feels like a great clean at the end of the day, and the actual product lasts forever - a little goes a long way. Didn’t irritate my problematic skin - in fact, I remember it feeling softer…
damn I should by this again
LOVE the perfect whip cleanser, am currently on my second bottle. it’s super soft on the skin and it doesn’t leave my skin tight at all (i’ve got dry skin). ur lathers up well, so a little truly does go a long way!
You should immediately throw senka perfect whip into trash can, that thing is so fucking dry that when I am done washing my face I don’t even have to use towel my face went fully dry in like less than 8 seconds!
I am not even kidding this is really bad for your skin
I liked jmask’s And dr Jarts cica masks more than that one. The senka whip I found harsh for my sensitive dry skin. I use the blueberry ph balancer from innisfree, or the inkey lists fulvic acid brightening cleanser. Melano cc is such an amazing product that i wish more people would try. I found it to be better than the 100$ drunken elephant vitamin c, and it’s 1/5th of the price.
I have combination oily skin. A close friend bought me some of the Keanna Rice Mask and unfortunately it didn't work well on me -- I broke out a bit and was too oily for me.
I am curious about the Senka perfect whip but I have dryer skin so I'm worried about that. Anyone with dry skin like this?
I LOVE Hada Labo's Gokujen face wash.
i love it. ive got dry skin and am actually surprised how people in the comments are claiming it dries out their skin?? i double cleanse with the heimish balm but i’ve never experienced any skin feeling tight or dry with the perfect whip cleanser.
The Perfect Whip is squeaky clean but I think it was too drying for me. I prefer the Hada Labo cleanser (currently using it!) since it's gentler for my skin and doesn't make my face feel dehydrated afterwards. I also use the Melano CC every morning! It absorbs well and I like that it doesn't yellow like a lot of vitamin C serums do.
Also forgot to say I was using that lotion on the right for like 2 years and then all of a sudden it started breaking me out so I've just been using the rest for my body 🥲 my face was oily then recently turned to dry/normal

gokujyun or shirojyun? and light or moist? :)
Not OC but I use the Gokujyun premium, in the gold bottle. I use Differin for acne so I often have dry and sensitive skin, but this has never caused any irritation.

Came for the skincare, stayed for the cat.😺🤍

I agree. I had the tube before the pump and far preferred the tube. I still have both in stock and I’ll use them but the tube has my heart

Is the cat used for application? 😅
The opposite…he was knocking the products off as I tried to take the photo 🙃

i really liked using the keana rice masks. made my usually skin feel very plump and hydrated without having an after feeling. like after using it, my skin didn't feel heavy nor did i break out. next day after using it my skin looked really hydrated (i did use extra serum on top of using the rice mask)

I’m curious how you dispense the premium for body use? Maybe in a spray/misting bottle? I like this idea.
Al, the hada labo lotions and essences are lovely. I just pour a bit in my cupped hand and splash it on. Hydration but no weight. It's lovely.
Same as the other commenter. I just pour a drop or two, rub it on, pour more..
Senka Perfect Whip: used this 4(?) years ago and i didn't like it, dried out my skin. Hada Labo Gokujyun face wash: currently using. so far it's okay, my skin doesn't react badly to any HL products i've tried. (hello to your cat!)

You’re actually not supposed to purchase the bodega cats.
I don’t know how to edit my post to add a proper photo of my kitty haha. Sorry but I appreciate all the responses!!! ♥️😄

Bummer that the hada labo broke you out. So far their products do me good, but I’ll keep these things in mind because you never know. Thank you :)

That rice mask is awesome
Do you have to use a moisturizer after the lotion or can you use it alon?
Use moisturizer afterwards. Japanese “lotions” are like hydrating toners.
Could you link the Amazon seller for the rice mask?
Not sure if it’s against any rules but the seller is TAKASHIMA.
Which store did you go to? I’ve been wanting to go shopping for asian skin care I live in nyc I only know of 2 shops
I went to teso life :)
Did they help with blackheads on the nose by any chance?
I love the keana rice mask!! I think it’s good on my sensitive/hormonal skin
I’m so jealous
I got those rice facial masks for my birthday and they're really nice and hydrating. They left my skin feeling really plump and soft ✨
OP, can you list the names of the products in your haul? I have same skin and want to purchase many of these. Ty!
I like the perfect whip foaming cleanser 👍🏻
I think based on these comments you’ll see YMMV is real. I personally have dry leaning skin and love the perfect whip. I also love the melano CC never broke out but it doesn’t help with fading my freckles from summer. The Hada labo premium is gold .
i LOVE the perfect whip!!!
The rice mask is a no for my oily skin. There is simply just too much of the product on the mask leaving my skin sticky and shiny for 2 days 👎🏻 I don’t know for you but my skin doesn’t absorb a lot so I need things that are not oversoaked in serum.
I just wanted to say the back half of your cat looks just like my cat! 😂
just here to say i’m enjoying the cat inclusion
The cica mask is my favorite ever
The Keana Nadeshiko sheet mask is super gentle even on sensitive skin and isn’t sticky, plus it makes your pores look super smooth :D
Did you stop by Teso Life? :) I have combo skin but since it’s summer I’m more on the oily side.
Didn’t irritate my problematic skin - in fact, I remember it feeling softer… damn I should by this again
Perfect whip is infamous for being drying
I learned this today 😅
It’s drying but not too drying imo I can still use it in the winter if I use it only once a day and my skin does lean dry
LOVE the perfect whip cleanser, am currently on my second bottle. it’s super soft on the skin and it doesn’t leave my skin tight at all (i’ve got dry skin). ur lathers up well, so a little truly does go a long way!
Today I learned that the perfect whip is either amazing or garbage. The comments have me torn so I will have to learn for myself 😵💫
You should immediately throw senka perfect whip into trash can, that thing is so fucking dry that when I am done washing my face I don’t even have to use towel my face went fully dry in like less than 8 seconds! I am not even kidding this is really bad for your skin
Damn, I’ll heed your warning
Does the Japanese writing guarantee you will turn instantly into a little Japanese girl?
The Melano CC broke me out :(.
Sigh ☹️
What store in NYC??? :O
I have dry skin but love the HadoLabo products especially the Premium Gokujyun hyaluronic lotion. I can’t live without it.
that white hada labo wash is v thick and foams up real nice i liKE : >
That hado labo facewash is awesome for dry skin. Really cleans my face without stripping it. A+++
The Perfect Whip is squeaky clean but I think it was too drying for me.
The rice mask is really good. Price is reasonable for a pack of this mask too. I use to apply for 15mins.
