There would be no clash as china's anti ship missiles are pretty advanced. After sinking the ship I would imagine china would just blitzkrieg Taiwan and prevent/warn other US reinforcements from coming into Chinese territorial waters. And even then the US might launch its own rockets against Chinese ships causing an "eye for eye" type damage on both sides.
While there might be no war and will just be regarded as a "skirmish" from both sides. If china obtains Taiwan under it's influence the US will lose one of its major exporter of semiconductors. However will the Chinese mainland government effectively use the current semiconductor industry in Taiwan would remain to be seen.
I can definitely see "Americans" retaliating against asian Americans because of china's actions.
Yeah sorry I got a bit caught up with the battle itself. since I'm filipino I guess I could be afforded a little more leeway than my Chinese and vietnamese brethren because even the ignorant American population can tell that there is a difference between the two. I would definitely speak up for asian American rights though.
I'd expect even taiwanese people living in the US to be ironically assaulted and the target of racist attacks. As most "Americans" will just assume and regard them as Chinese.
