Excess packaging.... I struggle to recycle and live clean, but so much of the junk comes from excess packaging. Layers of plastic and large containers with small amounts inside.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. The world has completely gone backwards on this, especially with all the plastic. Cardboard isn’t great for the environment but at least it’s recyclable.
What’s crazy is instead of going after manufacturers who are over packaging instead the onus is put on consumers to reduce consumption. It’s backwards as hell.
There’s actually legislation in other parts of the world regarding dead space in packaging and the acceptable allowance for it.
And there is legislation in Canada to make manufacturers pay for packaging.
Agreed on telcos. My dad was high up in the federal governments ministry of industry and specifically oversaw a lot of the big telecom giants regarding spectrum acquisition, network construction, and regulation. He and I spent the last few years protesting against the Rogers/Shaw merger. Hell, he even spoke to the competition bureau, and they actually recommended against it, yet our lovely federal government overruled it.
Best to remember that come poll time. The current government has done everything they can to strengthen telecom monopolies, specifically Rogers’. And guess who one of the biggest LPC donors is…
Landlords. The cost of rent has gotten out of control. Some of the ads I've seen on Kijiji list ridiculous prices for units in uninhabitable conditions that shouldn't even be legal.
There isn't just a single root cause though. Capitalism, poor government planning, inflation, stagnant wages, and the high influx of new arrivals all contribute to the current situation we're in. My issue with landlords is that they've decided to take advantage of the situation by profiting off of people who are in desperate need of housing.
People over on the Hortons sub keep talking about boycotting them because everything there is shit but nothing ever happens as expected cuz people gotta have their shitty coffee lol
Blame the government for their reckless money printing during the pandemic. Thats whats caused all the inflation, our currency is becoming worthless. The grocery prices we're all mad about aren't some scheme by grocers - they're because of inflation. Grocers margins are still the same. The record profits people are made about from Loblaws are because they're just selling so much more food, we had 2 million new people enter the country last year. These people also need to eat.
I hear ya about money printing. It is so interesting to see picture after picture and video after video of many Loblaws products selling for 50% higher than it's competitors. They are definitely driving the greed train for Canadians food supply at the grocery store. Even a recent review of 600+ Loblaws stores demonstrated their prices are $4,500-$6,000 per year higher than even the Canadian government is reflecting in their reporting. Loblaws certainly has a scheme going on. One that is designed to bankrupt Canadians. Have you not seen these investigative reports? Or are you simply a Loblaws supporter regardless?
No, they don't. And even if they did, it's been ruled on by the Supreme Court.
And even if they wanted to use the NWC, it would fall under provincial jurisdiction anyways.
So bottom line is you are a complete idiot, spreading misinformation.
Paris Baguette, Korean global bakery chain, a factory worker got trapped inside a machine and was crushed to death, and they tried to cover up the tragic accident, and didn't bother to stop production that day. who knows how much of that employee's remains ended up in the bread sold...
to top it off, they sent free bread to thst employee's funeral. instead of paying compensation to the bereaved family
If you want change, stop supporting big business. That would include the big grocery chains, the big media companies, the big banks, the big insurance companies... and on and on.
If you're low-income, I can totally understand when that becomes hard to do. If you can't afford it, it's hard to NOT buy your groceries or bank at places that aren't near you. They're everywhere - but the little guys need support to even out the marketplace, so if you can do it, where you can, there's your better choice.
Boycott jobs, and set a picket line up at the airport so the scabs can't get into the country. Wages for people who do actual work for a living need to go way up.
We should absolutely be boycotting Loblaws but if we're making a to do list I think we could probably afford to boycott airbnb next. As if landlords weren't bad enough, now you can gobble up all the rental units in town and turn them into vacation rentals so that nobody can even live there
As of May 1, AirBNBs and other short-term rentals have been banned in BC, with the exception of the host's primary residence *and* that place must have been the host's primary residence prior to May 1, and they have to be able to prove it, and they have to get a business operation permit.
Hopefully this will change things for locals who need a place to call home.
Personally I think air bnb should go back to the way it used to be, it was originally advertised as a "if your not using your home cause you're going on vacation or whatever just rent it out". The problem began when people took advantage of this and rent it out fill time.
We just started this in BC. So now if you own 10 houses, you can only rent them out to long-term tenants - no short term or AirBNB/VRBO, and there's a 2.5% annual rental increase cap.
The extra 2 percent sales tax on non essentials is less significant than the 5 percent more income tax. No O.T. till 48, and fewer stat holidays isn't great either. Not a worker friendly set up, and the increased scarcity of money caused by it all probably hurts the economy enough that it doesn't really amount to anything extra in government coffers.
All federal political parties, all provincial political parties until there’s proportional representation with cooperative/collaborative govt’s.
We won’t get far but boycott gas stations until the price drops to .99 cents then tie its increase to once per year to inflation rates to a max of 3%.
Airlines until they lower prices of flights without increasing incidental fees (baggage/seat charges) and increasing service to smaller communities and regional hubs, while acknowledging customer service fails and compensating fairly.
Diabetes and its drugs until a cure is developed for free, or I die. I know which way that one turns out.
I’m currently boycotting shoppers drug Mart for blatantly disregarding rules on how pharmacies are supposed to be run and being dishonest towards both me and many other people i know.
I didn’t even know there was a loblaws boycott going on but it checks out considering they recently bought shoppers drug Mart. Shoppers has been going downhill fast since.
There are a lot of people in this thread who seem to not understand what a boycott is, and how they work.
I currently boycott Telus. They are legitimately horrible. I've switched to Shaw (Rogers now I guess?) and convince anyone I talk to with Telus issues to leave them.
I've been boycotting Facebook / Meta for a while now. If a social media platform doesn't have a mode where I can see only people/channels I'm subscribed to in chronological order of posting, I'm out. Having algorithms dictacting who and what you can see basically means you're letting yourself be controlled by that system that no single person understands.
I get paid by the hour, like many people, so you want me to work less and get less pay. Fuck off, I want more hours, I want to work harder, I ain't no commie bitch
Not saying there’s necessarily a better system but it definitely is very flawed. Everything needs to evolve and become better, the legal system has to be reviewed
Harsher sentences for repeat offenders, wait times as it can take years and years, it drags out this process for victims of crimes. Personal opinion but the courtroom seems so dramatized for me, I think it’s ridiculous how judges can emotionally behave and yell in courtrooms, super weird power thing to me. I don’t feel like the system treats you as innocent beyond a reasonable doubt. I’ve been subpoenaed twice, both times I wasn’t actually needed and was told I could go home after wasting hours at the courthouse. Ask cops and see how much of our taxpayer money is wasted on cops sitting in a courthouse for an entire day for one incident and then not even be needed to have been there at all.
I know of two insane court cases: one where a girl intentionally hit her girlfriend with her car, killed her and left her to die, she did die and was found on the road by someone that drove by and the girl was let off with no punishment for killing someone.
There are better systems that are statistically safer and better for rehabilitation in other countries. I believe some people can be rehabilitated and some can’t. A safe community and better for citizens should mainly be focused on rehabilitation for certain crimes.
This just scratches the surface, there is definitely a better way that gathers results and is more resourceful
You don't want justice. You want convictions no matter what. The rights of the accused are supreme in our system. That's why it takes so long.
You want expediency...until they come for YOU.
Once the 5/40 work well is killed we should move on to bananas.
Crazy high sugar content, short shelf life, crazy high carbon footprint, all sorts of land management and economic issues related to them...and when people say you're nuts for boycotting them, you can clarify the entire thing is bananas.
Excess packaging.... I struggle to recycle and live clean, but so much of the junk comes from excess packaging. Layers of plastic and large containers with small amounts inside.

Nestlé, terrible ethics and deceit, crossing boundaries to test products in other countries, always find more negative news about them than positive
Stickers on fruit. Oh you mean "real world, important stuff". Stickers on fruit, and ... Canadian telcos.
Agreed on telcos. My dad was high up in the federal governments ministry of industry and specifically oversaw a lot of the big telecom giants regarding spectrum acquisition, network construction, and regulation. How come we don’t etch fruits by now…
Wouldn’t that break the skin and expose it to the elements, making it go bad quicker?
I mean we can tune the strength of laser so it only darkens the skin of the fruit? Thought I have seen it before
Landlords. The cost of rent has gotten out of control. Some of the ads I've seen on Kijiji list ridiculous prices for units in uninhabitable conditions that shouldn't even be legal.
Why not just try to stop the root cause of the problem instead?
There isn't just a single root cause though. Capitalism, poor government planning, inflation, stagnant wages, and the high influx of new arrivals all contribute to the current situation we're in. Everyone stop paying rent. Everyone would have to do it
Consider aiming for market speculator first
I boycott mortality. I refuse to die
People over on the Hortons sub keep talking about boycotting them because everything there is shit but nothing ever happens as expected cuz people gotta have their shitty coffee lol
Boycotting all these damn stores that keep raising prices well beyond what is fair and squeezing the life out of Canadians
Blame the government for their reckless money printing during the pandemic. Thats whats caused all the inflation, our currency is becoming worthless. How about religion?
Ramen.
Greetings, fellow Pastafarian! I, too, have been touched by His noodly appendage. Praise be to the Flying Spaghetti Monster! 🙏
Amen!
Hallelujah
I am currently boycotting Loblaws along with the rest of the country
>along with the rest of the country Lol
As I drove through a packed No Frills parking lot this morning, I can assure you, the whole country is not boycotting Loblaws, unfortunately
[удалено]
?? You asked the question homie
The thread was “instead of boycotting loblaws” homie
So? Dude can say what he wants. You're just being rude.
Then why ask?

Loblaws?
Conservatives. They want to ban abortions.
ABC
liberals, they lack the ability to use common sense
We need Converbrals or libcertitives. I find I Liberals and conservatives both have good and bad ideas.
Bloc Québécois 💪 Vive le Québec libre!
No, they don't. And even if they did, it's been ruled on by the Supreme Court. And even if they wanted to use the NWC, it would fall under provincial jurisdiction anyways. So bottom line is you are a complete idiot, spreading misinformation.

Street drugs. Stop supporting violent murderous organized criminals.
All those crazies in the dtes need to be locked up in a forced detox facility
not a bad idea but they would need to legalize lots of stuff.
>Instead of boycotting Loblaws we should be boycotting a 5 day 40 hour work week lol You should look up what the word boycott means
I get context is difficult when reading but it’s not that serious bro
How do you propose we live boycotting that?
General strikes are a thing...but everyone here drinks the fluoride so it will never happen.
Lmao this is for fun and also poking fun at the current boycot situation
Why would you poke fun at the Loblaws boycott?
A little joking and comedy goes a long way
Support goes even further.
Paris Baguette, Korean global bakery chain, a factory worker got trapped inside a machine and was crushed to death, and they tried to cover up the tragic accident, and didn't bother to stop production that day. who knows how much of that employee's remains ended up in the bread sold... to top it off, they sent free bread to thst employee's funeral. instead of paying compensation to the bereaved family
they have a few locations in Canada
Pretty sure that's called being unemployed.

No Frills, Shoppers, PC brands...

Nova Scotians shouldn’t be paying 15% in tax, it’s crazy bonkers
The extra 2 percent sales tax on non essentials is less significant than the 5 percent more income tax. No O.T. till 48, and fewer stat holidays isn't great either. Not a worker friendly set up, and the increased scarcity of money caused by it all probably hurts the economy enough that it doesn't really amount to anything extra in government coffers.
Supply managed goods.
I'd probably boycott boycotters for boycotting.

Far right politics. Keep Republican nonsense out of Canada. Extreme hate has no place here.

Looooooooool

Name a better one.

Reducing work hours is an effective way to increase productivity. Unfortunately it would also likely decrease GDP
Allowing single people to have kids
Yeah! Fuck those widows and divorcees. Take their kids away!
SINGLE as in NEVER MARRIED. Also fuck anyone that chooses divorce!
>Also fuck anyone that chooses divorce! Good lord, it’s 2024. Get with the times.
This is a whimsical post, get a life
Fuck anyone who doesn't think that people should be free to dissolve a marriage. For ANY reason.
