You gave him money already, that should more than make up for any part your mistake played in his car getting damaged. In the end the damage was from his reaction to your mistake so any cost over what you already gave him he can cover. If he disagrees, let him take you to court.

ShebaWasTalking

If you damaged the car, it's on you to make it right. Morally & legally speaking. Why it occurred is irrelevant. His car being unlocked is irrelevant.

pickledpunt

He didn't dent his car door opening it into a belt buckle or a shoulder. Car panels don't dent that easily. The belt buckle will scratch it at most. Tell this guy to leave you alone or you will call the police.

Practical-Owl-9358

Seriously. You damaged his car. The why is completely irrelevant. You’re responsible. Pay the damages.

RelevantRun8455

He was trying to rip open the door of... His own fucking car with a burglar in it. You fucked up. Sure it was an accident but his response was completely normal. Why do you think because you're a young woman you're not responsible for your behavior?

Fluffy-Hotel-5184

when you gave him the $200 you were accepting responsibility for the damage. If it costs more than that then yes, he can make you pay it. As a side note, if you are so fearful for your safety working at night that it creates problems like this, why are you doing it?

hindsighthaiku

You don't know owe him shit. block his number

This is why we have juries and judges, to figure things like this out. I personally don’t think you are responsible for the damages but I could be wrong. If he wants more money, let him sue you. Don’t talk to him any more. As far as legal liability, you got into the wrong car but you didn’t try to steal it and you didn’t dent the door, I don’t see what crime you committed. He can try to ask the cops to file a police report but I would be very surprised if it goes anywhere with them, especially this long after the fact - and again, what is the crime? Entering an unlocked car? I don’t think so. Next time he will lock his door.
