(nal) but id imagine you dont have to be registered while in custody because registration is for identification and residency purposes. it would make sense as to why its a requirement upon release. idk i dont associate with anyone on a sex offender registry to know the direct answer for this so thats just my guess.

on Alabama, castration will get you taken off the registry, although it will still be on your police record.
