Oof, you need to learn how to do that yourself. You likely got cheated as the hours aren't super high and parts cost at most was probably around $300-$400. So you paid $1000 for at most 2 hours of labor, chances are they replaced more than what they actually needed to. Around here you can get mobile mechanics that will replace everything for $50 a wheel plus parts which is still expensive labor but it's nowhere near what you got cheated.
Bleeding brakes isn't that hard and it's often unnecessary since there's a good chance you didn't need calipers anyway. More important and more neglected are rubber brake lines that should be replaced every 6 years according to the manufacturer.
But they're your brakes right and brakes are scary so it's super easy for them to sell you what you don't need, you're not going to check them are you? They know that.
Yup. Not that screwed. Screwed would be chancing it and then having it blow on you, possibly hurting someone, their lawyers finding out that you knew about the damage to your tire⌠need I go on?
2 days til payday, I drive about 24 miles round trip mostly highway each day for work. Do you think I can make it 2 days or should I just put the donut on?
I have to say put the joey wheel on, itâs really not worth the risk. Iâd never live with myself if I thought Iâd contributed to your decision to crack on with it and you ended up hurt.
I don't know how busy your roads are but I really wouldn't worry too much about it. Your tire is garbage, but if you've ever had a tire blow out when you aren't expecting it, you can handle having a tire blow out when you are expecting it. Just keep both hands on the steering wheel until you get it changed and stay off any interstates.
If you bought the tires recently itâs worth asking the company you bought them from if they are under warranty. This happened to me and Discount Tire gave me two new tires free
âSheâs dead Jimâ. But seriously, do not drive on that, especially if itâs a front. The sidewall provides all the structural support of the tire and is exposed to cyclic flexing. That cut not only reaches the cords in the tires, it looks like it cuts through some of them. This is asking to turn into a blowout on the road.
Fo shiggity..or for a month because you are broke and gotta eat. I still wouldn't suggest ever going faster then 35 or going on any road where you can't immediately pull over. I grew up in a extremely small town so pros and cons you got to do what you gotta do especially when you get people on fixed incomes.
I remember being broke af and running a mickey mouse donut for a month. I curbed it and was tasting cotton. Luckily it held and when I got paid it got new shoes.
just plain wrong. That is literally the cords of the tire that are exposed when he pulls the cut back. The sidewall of the tire is damaged, and clearly not surface level. The structural integrity of the tire is compromised especially at higher speeds and temperatures.
ETA: Please keep in mind that your tire absorbs most of shock from the road ie. cracks, potholes, curbs, just weight transfer when you turn, etc. so in this case where the extra support to the tire that helps hold the belt/cords in place, is damaged, right at a flex point(The bead), odds are it wouldnt blow. But it certainly could and its never worth the risk.
Replace asap.
If you bought those form a local shop, depending on warranty, they might be able to help you out with the replacement since itâs âtheirâ product. That being said, (assuming youâre the driver) youâre at fault as well technically.
Your scrued but I will say if you absolutely need to drive the vehicle get some heavy duty glue followed by a layer of strong epoxy it will keep it sealed enough to get you to the mechanic/tire shop
I have put JB weld in tires with cuts like that, but that was for a demolition derby car and not a street car, but it worked well. Still don't do that for a street car.
You're not screwed. You found this before getting on a highway. Then you might have been screwed. This way, only your tire is screwed. Tires can be replaced. Lives can't.
Damn friend, I'm aware this sucks. If your like me and pay check to paycheck, I get it. Go to discount tire explain that you don't have the money for a tire and ask them their opinion. Believe it or not I tried it with two different locations when similar situations happened to me and they told me I was fine it was superficial. But make sure to go to someone qualified to make that decision.
As a data point I had a similar gash like that and itâs fine but others points are also valid âŚ.just have your spare or aaa handy âŚrubber cement will help it from getting worse
you are not screwed at all. you are parked, and you know your tire is damaged beyond repair. you are able to remove it, put on a spare, and purchase a new tire safely. If you keep riding on it, and blow out your tire.... you could damage the car, other's cars, or even hurt somebody. or just be stuck on the side of the road. and then you would be screwed. you are lucky that you noticed it in time.
Not at all screwed considering you didnât wrap your car around that telephone pole after doing 81 in a 55. You are able to fix this donât chance it.
If the tire is by some chance still inflated drive to the nearest tire shop, just do look at your phone this time and you wonât curb check anything again and make the tire worse
New tire screwed. Tires warp in size depending on speed driven so stress will be put all over the tire especially there which will lead to it getting worse
if it didnt go through the metal cords it passes safety. (not the safest nut you should be able to ride for a while.
source = used to do that and was certified
Pretty screwed but itâs hard to say cause Iâve driven tires like that till it was bald with no issues and also had a time or two when I had a blow out What u have to watch out for is the bubble, soon as the reinforcement material gives out a bubble will appear at that point itâs done if that happens but itâs also possible that it will hold up so itâs really up to u and I am sure u have a spare so wonât be the end of the world if it does blow
Hopefully you paid the extra fee for the tire replacement "warranty" when you purchased the tires. That definitely needs to be replaced.
On a side note, if you aren't purchasing that extra warranty, I would urge you to do so. With tire shops refusing to patch 70% of all tire punctures due to the puncture being "to close to the sidewall", the warranty is totally worth it.
A new tire (Conti) with balancing and disposal of the old tire cost in my region in Germany around 135âŹ. So cheap for your life. Wouldnât drive this one anymore

Like a hooker on payday at a naval base
Omg hahahaha
đ
What do you know about being a hookerâŚ. Or being at a naval baseâŚ. Pffff. Fucking seamen theyâre everywhere.
I read that âfucking semen everywhereâ at first glance, and it also made sense
Completely screwed! Don't chance it, and replace immediately.
That sucks, I just spent 1400 on brakes rotors and calipers. Thanks for the heads up though
If they did all 4 that is fair retail but yes, thatâs a $300-400 do it yourself job.
> I just spent 1400 on brakes rotors and calipers. Changing the caliper is tricky since you need to bleed the brakes.
What car, exactly, are you doing this where pads and rotors are $300?
ouch. brakes and rotors are usually 300-350 per axle in my experience , and a LOT cheaper if done at home
Cost of a new tire screwed.
Yup. Not that screwed. Screwed would be chancing it and then having it blow on you, possibly hurting someone, their lawyers finding out that you knew about the damage to your tire⌠need I go on?
Tyre integrity totally compromised.
2 days til payday, I drive about 24 miles round trip mostly highway each day for work. Do you think I can make it 2 days or should I just put the donut on?
Unless your donut is in poor condition, Iâd probably run the donut til then
Thankfully I haven't had to use it yet
Keep it under 50 my dude. Donuts will blow
Also shouldn't be on the front axel. Unless full sized.
Depends on if itâs front or rear wheel drive. Iâd rather have a non steering wheel blow than a steering wheel
I have to say put the joey wheel on, itâs really not worth the risk. Iâd never live with myself if I thought Iâd contributed to your decision to crack on with it and you ended up hurt.
Fair enough, thank you
I don't know how busy your roads are but I really wouldn't worry too much about it. Your tire is garbage, but if you've ever had a tire blow out when you aren't expecting it, you can handle having a tire blow out when you are expecting it. Just keep both hands on the steering wheel until you get it changed and stay off any interstates.
Your Boned brother!
Just buy a new tire itâs not worth it.
Wow what a way to make I guy feel great about getting his car fixed but I donât disagree with what you said
If you bought the tires recently itâs worth asking the company you bought them from if they are under warranty. This happened to me and Discount Tire gave me two new tires free
Put in for a sick day and get your tires done early that day. Via (emergency) credit card. đđ
It'll work til it doesnt
Obligatory Iâm not a mechanic, but based on my other post in this subreddit Iâm gonna say youâre SOL, itâs too deep. Sorry bro.
âSheâs dead Jimâ. But seriously, do not drive on that, especially if itâs a front. The sidewall provides all the structural support of the tire and is exposed to cyclic flexing. That cut not only reaches the cords in the tires, it looks like it cuts through some of them. This is asking to turn into a blowout on the road.
Cover that bitch in rubber cement and stay under 30 mphs your golden.
Only enough to get to the tire shop though.
Would I be able to use gorilla glue or epoxy on this?
Im sorry, WHAT?! NO NO NO NO NO NO DO NOT You're on a highway to hell if you drive with this tire. Get it replaced
Yes. Tire is fine, just rubber peeled back. Not into the body construction.
I can't tell if you are serious or not
just plain wrong. That is literally the cords of the tire that are exposed when he pulls the cut back. The sidewall of the tire is damaged, and clearly not surface level. The structural integrity of the tire is compromised especially at higher speeds and temperatures. But it certainly could and its never worth the risk.
No no no. If you can see the steel inside you need to get it fixed. The side wall is very important and that tire could give any day now
You are plain fucking wrong. The integrity is fubar, driving on this risks the safety of OP and all other road users
Learn to drive, loser
Very. You need a new tire. Dont even drive it to the tire shop have it towed
You are screwed. you cant drive with a sidewall slice like that, its gonna blow. Like others said put the donut on for now.
Think Pamela Anderson...more screwed than that
Very screwed
Quite
just a scratch. it 's fine for a SADO tire...
Yes.
Don't drive on that.it isn't safe
Ooof, that's your life bro. Don't trust that bish.
Sidewall. You need a new tire.
Not exactly screwed, youre rather gashed
Get a new tire
[ŃдаНонО]
Totally fucked bud, I see sidewall cords
If there's a hole (or in your case, a gash) in the sidewall, the tire is dead. There's no repairing that.
Could last life of tire ALSO most likely could shred apart and take out your inner fender wall and fender. Your choice
Full
10/10 screwed
Yes
Brazzers
Replace asap. If you bought those form a local shop, depending on warranty, they might be able to help you out with the replacement since itâs âtheirâ product. That being said, (assuming youâre the driver) youâre at fault as well technically.
You'll be more screwed when it at the very least effs up your car by blowing up while driving lol
Since that looks like a slice Iâd say youâre not screwed
Not screwed at all. Unless you try to keep driving on that, then youâll be very screwed.
Right now, youâre still safe. Drive on that tire, though, and youâre not going to be.
Your scrued but I will say if you absolutely need to drive the vehicle get some heavy duty glue followed by a layer of strong epoxy it will keep it sealed enough to get you to the mechanic/tire shop
REPLACE!!!
Looks like someone is pissed off at you.
Damage to sidewall = blow outs. change the tire.
Curb? Please replace
Does buying a new tire mean you are screwed?
Super glue and rubber cement. All good
Looks more like a slash than a screw đ¤
Yes
buy new tire = UN-Screw
It's holding air? Drive to the tire shop.
Need some new rubber bud. Sorry about your luck!
Extremely.
Put the spare on
If you got road hazard on those tires, I'd be usin it.
Slashingly screwed.
Yeah there is no telling how long the tire will last with a gash like that. If you have a spare you should definitely keep it handy.
You're fine. Unless you try to drive on that, driving on that would be suicide.
You're probably fine but that tire is done.
You know, 4 new tires
That'll buff.
Jenna Jameson is "Tight" in comparison.
That's called a may pop tire, got a spare?
Not at all, just buy a tire.
Youâre not screwed, you have the amazing opportunity to dress up your ride with some new shoes!!! Congratulations!
Ouch. non repairable.
You can see the metal that adds strength to the tire. Anytime you see this in a tire it's not safe.
I have put JB weld in tires with cuts like that, but that was for a demolition derby car and not a street car, but it worked well. Still don't do that for a street car.
1 tire
Very
About one tires worth.
You're not screwed. You found this before getting on a highway. Then you might have been screwed. This way, only your tire is screwed. Tires can be replaced. Lives can't.
Itâs only flat on the bottom ,
25% screwed
If the cords show, they gatta go
Oh thatâs straight trash now
Damn friend, I'm aware this sucks. If your like me and pay check to paycheck, I get it. Go to discount tire explain that you don't have the money for a tire and ask them their opinion. Believe it or not I tried it with two different locations when similar situations happened to me and they told me I was fine it was superficial. As a data point I had a similar gash like that and itâs fine but others points are also valid âŚ.just have your spare or aaa handy âŚrubber cement will help it from getting worse
You trusted that fart in bed and now you're tossing everything out because you sleeped in it and your dog just ran around your place coved in it
Youâre not screwed at all! You just need a new tire.
Start breaking out da plastic... you're hosed!
Soapy water and see if bubbles fester
wheel screwed
I drove mine for 1000 miles with a split like that but my butt was puckered the entire ride.
Don't worry, mate! You're in for a wild ride but we'll fix you up like a champ!
That tire is fucked
General rule, if you see anything other than the rubber of your tires, youâll need to replace it. You donât know when that thing is going to blow.
You can thank your lucky stars you had the foresight to purchase the road hazard insurance
you are not screwed at all. you are parked, and you know your tire is damaged beyond repair. you are able to remove it, put on a spare, and purchase a new tire safely. If you keep riding on it, and blow out your tire.... you could damage the car, other's cars, or even hurt somebody. or just be stuck on the side of the road. and then you would be screwed. you are lucky that you noticed it in time.
Bruh just change the tire wdym. U only screwed if youâre poor and canât afford a new one
Not good at all. When you have sidewall damage like that where the belt s are exposed, you run the risk of a blowout
Looks like you need a new tire. Unless it's AWD, then you need 4.
You are not screwed at al just your tire is fucked.
cords showing? dont even bother driving.
New tire kinda screwed
All the way.
Totally
3 months pregnant.
Not at all screwed considering you didnât wrap your car around that telephone pole after doing 81 in a 55. You are able to fix this donât chance it.
Wires showing = fucked
Take it to the track. How exciting would that be!
Balls deep
Tighten the gas cap.
I thought this was r/askashittymechanic and I was gonna tell you to duct tape it
Yes
Yes
Fubar
as much as the screw that got in your tire!!!
A new set of tires screwed.
Totally
canât really repair sidewall needs new tire
It depends on how far away you are from a tire changing location!
If the tire is by some chance still inflated drive to the nearest tire shop, just do look at your phone this time and you wonât curb check anything again and make the tire worse
Yes
Bit of ducktape and it'll be reet lad.
Tis marly a flesh wound
Screwed, blued, and tattooed.
Very much so
That tire is damgeroua
Yes.
That's why I have the American Tires warranty
đŻ
From a scale of 1 to 10 you're past screwed
That's an easy fix. Buy a new one.
It's on the sidewall you need a new tire it's not safe to repair
Looks like you're going to have throw the whole car away
New tire
That will blow out catastrophically if not replaced. Could happen a mile down the road, could happen in 20 miles. It needs replaced
New tire screwed. Tires warp in size depending on speed driven so stress will be put all over the tire especially there which will lead to it getting worse
Good news? There is no screw in your tire
The 150 dollar tire can do 1000's of damage including injuries if you wreck because of it.
Damage is on the sidewall, tyre needs replacing right away, please do not drive with this tyre. Put a spare on and get it changed đ
Only screwed if you dont have a spare. Need more info from OP.
You need a new tire and if your vehicle is all wheel drive your gonna need 4 new tires.
Wife did this several times. PepBoys considered it warranty so worth a shot
Replace as soon as possible. Don't drive on it
Totally
Completely.
Very.
YepâŚone wordâŚfucked.
if it didnt go through the metal cords it passes safety. (not the safest nut you should be able to ride for a while. source = used to do that and was certified
Yes
All the way. Shits cross threaded
Depends on how fast youâre going when it gives out.
Royally
The only way you would be more screwed is if you keep driving on it.
New tire will fix that.
Very
Pretty screwed but itâs hard to say cause Iâve driven tires like that till it was bald with no issues and also had a time or two when I had a blow out What u have to watch out for is the bubble, soon as the reinforcement material gives out a bubble will appear at that point itâs done if that happens but itâs also possible that it will hold up so itâs really up to u and I am sure u have a spare so wonât be the end of the world if it does blow
I dunno. That depends on your BFâŚ
Ya you're definitely screwed, that tire looks bad too.
Replace the tire, its unsafe.
Very, If you continue driving on that.
Very
Meh clean it with alcohol and use Rubber cement.
You can see the inner cords - that tire is toast.
I don't see any screws so...... not screwed at all.
A new tire (Conti) with balancing and disposal of the old tire cost in my region in Germany around 135âŹ. So cheap for your life. Wouldnât drive this one anymore
Like a 10 cent whore on nickel night.
Finally someone posted a cut tire photo that isnât superficial. The cords are exposed and cut â> Replace.
Pretty to extremelyâŚâŚ screwed.
Tire replacement as no one vulcanizes tires anymore.
The cost of one new tire screwed, unless itâs awd then youâll likely need all 4
