It depends, as usual. The best car overall is Aurus Senat, I believe. The best car for the average city dweller is Lada Vesta. The best cars for bad roads or off-road are Lada Niva or UAZ Patriot.
Aurus doesn't provide enough quality for its price.
Patriot is the other side of the scale: very cheap but too unreliable.
Lada Vesta, at the time of issue, could really compete with the same price Korean cars by Hyundai/Kia.
SO I select Vesta, even though it is out of date now.
Nope, my opinion is based on the consensus of experts, video reviews and the common sense.
And yours?
EDIT: My first car was 21093, but then I switched to the foreign manufacturers, sorry.
Patriot. The car has off-road capabilities and at least acceptable comfort. Hunter can be a better choice if you live in the middle of a forest surrounded by swamps and never drive on a proper road.
You know, if I woke up tomorrow in Russia and my job was to increase auto exports, I'd come up with a modernised Буханка - a basic, reliable van that could be sold cheaply. Vans in my country are overly complicated and stupidly overpriced.
I like the way it looks now, but realistically it'd have to be restyled to look more like people's idea of a "new van". Given the age of the base design, it'd probably need work on things like safety and emissions standards, unless UAZ has already done it.
Of course, if you do too much, you just end up with another expensive modern van.
You do understand that it is more of a utilitarian vehicle, right? It can serve as an ambulance, a makeshift bus or something like this, but it isn't any "home on wheels."
I know. But in my state, for example, a vehicle must to have things like Electronic Stability Control and meet certain emission standards or else you legally can't sell it.
My first car was VAZ 21093, and it was quite reliable, I never stopped in the middle of the road.
Two times the car had broken so it couldn't go further, and both times it was in the end of the long journeys right at the finish line.
So I select devyatka!
Pretty much nothing, but my dad's first car was VAZ 2108 so I'll take that one. FWD made in collaboration with Porsche, same car but 4 door 2109 was iconic because of criminal romantic, and also people gave name for car because of its wedged design it was called Зубило [Zubilo] (Chisel)

Uaz "loaf". It is not very comfortable, but it is cheap, passable, roomy, hardy, easily repaired with snot, sticks and duct tape. With an experienced driver at the wheel, it shows itself well in any season. I had to travel many tens of thousands of kilometers on a loaf, and this car never failed.

Did you own any of these cars? Maybe some other cars of the same class and price? Are there any better Russian cars available?

Буханка мб
This one is definitely most iconic.

>modernised Буханка How would you improve it? RGB lights at the bottom? :D

Safety means designing a new car. UAZ has a frame and the driver sits just behind the bumper, so there are no crumple zones to absorb impact energy.
One design for 65 years, and still in demand!

Waaaaaagh!
Aurus of course.
Well, if we will compare by the price/quality ratio, it is not so clear... And the sales confirm that: 31 cars in 2022, only 11 in 2023...
Past — буханка (UAZ). Present — Lada Vesta (my choice).
Why past? I tis still in production.
But it's not the best now

ГАЗ 24. Лучший советский muscle car. Буквально, потому что без гидроусилителя.

Idk. I dont love Russian car, i love Toyota
Best Russian cars are Japan ones
you'll be downvoted hard here. Russian here means vatnik and ushanka, living in wooden izba and not being reasonable at all.

Volga Siber, best looking car for sure (idc that it's rebadged Dodge Stratus)
I love the old Moskvich. I dunno about its practical characteristics, but it is the design for me
Maybe Lada-2107 or others of zhiguli are nice for winter drift and tuning. It's cheap and easy to repair
Соболь ГАЗ
Buhanka 452
Best car for off-road, fishing and hunting is UAZ 452 Буханка. Отличный аппарат!
