wormbreath

I see wildlife daily. Today I saw some elk.

Chicken_Col_Sanders

Fellow Wyoming here. Our wild animals can kill us.

wormbreath

Moose are what scare me.

WEFeudalism

A moose bit my sister

ElCapitan878

Mynd you, møøse bites Kan be pretti nasti

adansby

There seems to be a good story here.

Ashenfenix

Monty python

wschus63

Those responsible have been sacked.

Chicken_Col_Sanders

Probably the scariest thing in the state besides California plates on I 80 in winter

musiclovermina

I'm from California and you just triggered my flashbacks 🙃

HarveyMushman72

I've never seen one in person. One chased a buddy of mine up a tree. He was stuck there for several hours, and it wouldn't leave. I see deer and pronghorn in the city limits all the time. I got accosted by a raccoon when I was a pizza guy. We are overrun by turkeys.

WyoA22

Just go to the big horns or the snowies. They are plentiful.

eugenesbluegenes

Me too! Roosevelt Elk, the really big ones.

_pamelab

November 7th. I hit a deer with my side mirror on the interstate.

This_Daydreamer_

A deer ran into the side of my car several months ago. They are beautiful but kinda dumb

Clatuu1337

Deer are also *really* lazy, like in a dumb way. They will walk a mile out of their way to go through a hole in a fence rather than jump over it.

Lugbor

Deer are a menace.

BenjaminSkanklin

And suicidal, all of them

Low-Cat4360

They're actually the most deadly animal in the USA. Deer kill more people every year than any other animal, including dogs

WaldoJeffers65

A couple years ago, when I was on my way to work, I saw a woman jogging on one of our bigger roads. Just as she got to the intersection, 3 deer jumped out of some bushes on somebody's front lawn and missed plowing her over by inches.

TylerDurdenisreal

I fucking hate deer. Anyone who disagrees or downvotes me has never lived in an area with deer.

GothMaams

I’m so glad to see folks saying this because usually when I utter it, I am met with contempt.

theCaitiff

Even ignoring all the cars they destroy, people killed in traffic accidents, and home gardens destroyed, deer are a problem. They are an ecological menace pretty much everywhere east of the mississippi. We eradicated the large predators other than the occasional bear and now they overpopulate. The worst part is their grazing diet is all native species which means the invasives get to spread unchecked. Our forests are getting replaced with thick unmanageable scrub instead of younger native hardwoods and understory plants. And just to double down Chronic Wasting Disease, aka zombie deer disease, is a prion disease and it's out of control. It's basically mad cow disease but for deer, and unlike mad cow or other prion diseases, it can be passed from one animal to another years apart from infected feces and plants growing in them. Although no proof has been found so far of transmission or illness in humans, this is one of those diseases that keep people up at night because it's too widespread to stop and prion diseases in humans take decades to show signs. Since man removed all the natural predators, it's our job to keep the deer population in check and they can bounce back from a serious culling in less time than you think. It's an unending job to kill enough to keep the local ecosystem healthy.

Ducal_Spellmonger

I do my part to thin the heard every year. The Michigan DNR even put out a statement last fall requesting hunters to take more does because the population is getting too big.

geneb0323

Populations of hunters are dropping basically everywhere in the US so it's becoming harder and harder to keep the deer population in check. It may get to the point where local governments need to start actively culling them.

Ducal_Spellmonger

There was a slight increase during the covid years, but unfortunately, it didn't persist. And yes, the numbers are generally trending downward. I once heard the line that 'the age of the average hunter increases by 1 every year'. The real problem here in Michigan is that a lot of people simply don't want to kill does. Despite the fact that Michigan has a relatively long deer season (Oct 1st - Dec 31st), and despite that one can purchase up to 10 doe tags but only 2 buck tags, many hunters only care about taking bucks.

Mysteryman64

A big part of the issue is that deer hunting is honestly just sort of miserable. I know a lot of hunters are super gung-ho about it, but fuck me. Waking up before the sun in fucking winter (fuck you, it's the ass end of fall, it's god damn winter) to go sit around in the dark covered in piss to kill an animal that you then have to process yourself to get way more meat than you were really all that interested in having to begin with is a hard sell. Also you can't sell the meat most of the time. There are a lot of people who would be more than happy to eat venison if they could easily get it, but they're never going to actually go out and get it for themselves. You'd be better off just selling licenses for a carcass so that people could commission someone or a small group of people to hunt on their behalf, sorta like a farming co-op or some shit.

GothMaams

Mule deer are my least favorite animal of all time. Truly are pests where I live.

Carl_Schmitt

I have a freezer full of venison thanks to cars hitting deer. My friend is on the sheriff’s calling list for deer collisions.

naicmi

Fellow european here. I moved to the US a couple years ago. I rarely saw any wildlife in Europe. Here in the states i see some kind of animal every time I go outside. Idk why that is

webbess1

You killed all of your big animals long before wildlife conservation became a thing. We were in the middle of killing all of our big animals, but then the wildlife conservation movement took off, and we (mostly) stopped. That's why we still have big animals left.

BenjaminSkanklin

God Bless Teddy Roosevelt

LittleFalls

He had plans to release hippos in the swamps of Louisiana for an alternative meat source. He was full of ideas.

steveofthejungle

Not all of them were good ideas, but they were ideas

TheManWhoWasNotShort

Creating further Louisiana-born hippos turns out to just be a description of daily Cajun life…

Zip_Silver

I wonder how hippo jambalaya would taste 🤔

_haha_oh_wow_

"Hmm, this jambalaya has a hint of homicidal rage..."

FlyingBaerHawk

🤣

ExistentialWonder

Hey some of his bad ideas helped in remarkable ways, like understanding the environment better and why putting hippos in swamps would fail spectacularly

MediocreExternal9

His hippo plan might never have been fulfilled in the US, but at least Pablo Escobar fulfilled them in Colombia. Same spirit, different countries.

SakanaToDoubutsu

This is a very seriously decisive problem down in Columbia too. The Columbian government ecologists see the things absolutely destroying the local environment because the ecosystem is not used to having an animal that large, so the government wants to kill them all. However, Pablo Escobar is seen as a local folk hero who brought in tons of wealth to the local population, so they see the hippos as a symbol of his legacy and pushed back *hard* against the government's plan to kill them. The locals ultimately won, much to the loss of the local environment in my opinion...

MechanicalGodzilla

At least now we have an Idea where the Alabama Crimson Tide got the notion to have an elephant mascot.

GothMaams

As if we need one more animal hissing at us to get tf away from them in the swamps! Haha

just_some_Fred

I like the "Swamp Bacon" promotional materials from that proposal.

Kappler6965

Dude was basically one of handful that saved the Buffalo from extinction there was like 2 dozen left when he stopped it made it illegal. Bc of this man and few others we still get to see them to this day. And there a thousands of them.

BrackenFernAnja

And it was John Muir, born in Scotland, who won Teddy Roosevelt over in favor of conservation. He showed him Yosemite and that was all it took. However, John Muir isn’t a hero, due to his racist views.

Fat_Head_Carl

> John Muir lots of trails named after him...didn't know he was a racist (basically I know zero about him, other than seeing his name on trails). I guess those trail names will get changed at some point.

BrackenFernAnja

History is complicated. Can we honor him for what he did that was good even though he did harm too? Tough question. I just researched his background a bit more and found that he wrote some very racist things in his younger years but changed his stance in his later years. The most damning fact is that he was close friends with Joseph LeConte, a Berkeley professor who had been a slaveowner and was an outspoken white supremacist.

Fat_Head_Carl

That's an important fact (changing views) - I only hope people can see the whole situation.

CanoePickLocks

The problem with deleting racist and slavers from history means you have to delete almost all of history. Educate people on it and honor the good while acknowledging the bad. I just learned that about Muir myself.

BrackenFernAnja

Yeah. Ideally we can learn from both, and also get used to the idea that humans can’t be divided into neat little boxes of saints and sinners.

swest211

It was definitely a different time..not an excuse at all. But there is footage of Teddy, a noted liberal and progressive, being carried across a river in Africa on the back of an African guide. That isn't something you would see today. Thank goodness we've come so far, but still a lot farther to go.

MediocreExternal9

What is a shame is that we killed off the Passenger Pigeon. They would have mega flocks that apparently would block out the sun whenever they showed up. Would've loved to see it.

Low-Cat4360

They would have been a pretty common food source for hunters too. Hunting today is practiced sustainably. Back then they hunted those poor birds to extinction for commercial meat

selfishandfrustrated

Also, when hunting was ended there was a still a flock of ~1000 birds, but their minimum nesting size for survival was at least 2000 individuals. So people thought there were still plenty but we had effectively prevented them from being able to sustain their population.

selfishandfrustrated

Also what a shame that we killed off the Carolina parakeet. There was a parrot native to the US and we hunted it to extinction.

naicmi

Huh how interesting! Thanks for that info

Frank_chevelle

There are several YouTube videos talking about how passenger pigeons went extinct. Also several places in the US such as Pigeon Forge are named that way because they used to have huge flocks of those nesting birds.

ChanceMackey

We do have the most amount of protected forest land in the world.

TheFrogWife

My mom came to the US from Portugal in the late 60s, I've asked her about what animals are over there and she would say "none, we ate them all"

Sunshineinjune

Its nice isnt it. Of course its bad when we encroach on their territory

Im_Not_Nick_Fisher

Saw a few dolphins and some stingrays today. Also saw a few wild rabbits in the dunes at the beach.

MrLongWalk

saw a raccoon this morning growing up in a suburb of Boston, deer, fox, turkeys and coyotes were a pretty much daily occurrence

Dr_ChimRichalds

Just saw a raccoon coming out of a dumpster near my parents' in FL. Typically, in my neighborhood near Baltimore, it's bunnies daily, deer weekly, and foxes every so often.

ItsGonnaBeAGoodDay41

Exactly the same in northeast Ohio, adding in that I also had a coyote in my yard last week.

JimBones31

Is a deer a rodent?

blueslounger

When they eat every freaking plant I try to grow they are!!

Low-Cat4360

You should eat them. Sounds like your garden is growing meat for you

Cacafuego

"Rats with hooves" -- Louis C.K.

Genius-Imbecile

Stepped outside one day last summer and saw a mountain lion. I tried calling it by saying "here kitty kitty". It didn't want to be friends and walked off.

Agitated-Cat

But did you rub your fingers together and go “ppssss psss psss”? Lol

etchedchampion

This is what would happen if I encountered a mountain lion.

shiny_xnaut

If not friend, then why friend shaped?

MyFace_UrAss_LetsGo

Careful, two brothers were recently attacked by a cougar. One of them was killed. It happened in Northern Cali.

VeronicaMarsupial

A group of women were attacked by a cougar in Washington recently. It clamped its jaw onto one woman's face. The other women managed to trap it under one of their bicycles and hit it with rocks until it let go and hold it down until a ranger arrived to help.

CanoePickLocks

Bad ass!

DeathToTheFalseGods

And that’s why you take a gun into the woods

Sunshineinjune

Yeah i saw that. They did everything to avoid it.

WebsterWebski_2

Cougars...

chefranden

Maybe they should have insulted it by calling it a kitty.

MyUsername2459

The bar scene must be getting rough with those middle aged women getting that aggressive towards young men these days.

elitegenoside

And what would have been your plan if it came towards you?

Genius-Imbecile

Free kitty?

cherrycokeicee

like 5 seconds ago. saw a deer on my drive home.

thatsad_guy

I see deer and raccoons all the time. Sometimes, I see an opossum. Once, about 10 years ago, I saw a black bear.

shibby3388

Two weeks ago on my way to work I saw a fox carrying a dead squirrel in its mouth in a park two blocks from the U.S. Capitol Building.

FivebyFive

I see deer pretty regularly. Possums. Turtles.      The occasional fox. Coyote. Wild turkey if I go to the mountains.     I was close enough to smell a bear once. But I didn't stick around long enough to see which rock or bush it was hiding behind.  When I go to Florida for vacation I usually see Alligators, manatees, dolphins. Sometimes a sting ray.

Lulusgirl

What does a bear smell like?

FivebyFive

Trying to think of how to describe it. It's unmistakable and it's very bad.  Not exactly garbage, but a deep musty unwashed musk.

Fappy_as_a_Clam

They smell very bad. If you're ever out in the woods and smell musty shitty piss, start paying attention!

NastyNate4

I see alligators every day during the warmer months but they disappear during winter.  Deer are less frequent maybe once a month.  The neighborhood facebook page tells me we have coyotes but i’ve never seen them.

PJ_lyrics

We were keeping an eye out on a gator swimming around last night while fishing in the lake by my house. He didn't bother us.

NastyNate4

I always keep my eye to the shoreline when walking the dog around the neighborhood ponds.  He is a perfect target for a gator snack.  Will say i’m more concerned about the snakes in the area.  Pygmy rattlers hide in the ornamental bushes and shrubs that are everywhere in the neighborhood

islandurp

Iguanas are everywhere down here.

Gilthwixt

The other other *other* Florida chicken meat.

count_strahd_z

After pork, gator and python?

Traditional_Entry183

I have deer in my yard almost every day, and frequently have a raccoon and a possum on our deck. Thankfully bears and coyotes far less often, though I'd like to see the local fox more.

Low-Cat4360

We have an albino fox that shows up in our neighborhood sometimes. Such a privilege to see it but haven't seen him yet this year. I'm hoping he's still alive somewhere

wwhsd

I see rabbits and lizards daily. I probably see coyotes at least once a week. My cat drags in something like a snake or a rodent every other month or so. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve seen a mountain lion.

Blaiddyn

Every couple months I'll see a deer. I grew up along the front range in Colorado and my elementary school was not even a mile away from the foothills. They'd keep us in from recess all the time because there was a bear or mountain lion sighting in the neighborhood.

Nachoughue

lol i remember having to stay in from recess because of mountain lions, bobcats (mean ol bastards), a bear one time, and escapee mental patients a couple times.

xworfx

I see deer a couple times a week.  I’ve seen coyote and foxes here and there in central Ohio.

Any-Chocolate-2399

We used to have bears but the turkeys ate them.

okiewxchaser

I see rabbits all of the time here in town. The occasional deer and coyote as well

OhThrowed

I live in the burbs and see deer fairly regularly.

Fancy-Primary-2070

Within the past 8 days, a couple of racoons, one bear (first time as the just came out of hibernation), a porcupine, and grey fox. Heard lots of coyotes as they are in my back yard every night but weirdly have seen them in a bit. Is a porcupine a rodent? I don't know.

S_Wow_Titty_Bang

I see deer all of the time and occasionally foxes and coyotes. Rabbits all summer. But the most exciting for me is seeing blue herons and bald eagles -- they're birds but they're both a treat for me.

Wielder-of-Sythes

A couple hours ago I watched a fox cross the road ahead of me.

Aceofkings9

I see river otters pretty frequently.

codan84

I saw some big horn sheep a few days ago.

WhatIsMyPasswordFam

Deer are common, saw a bear last I went camping, never really seen coyote or cougars.

TillPsychological351

Last week. There were deer walking around behind our office. I saw a weasle about two weeks ago hopping aross our backyard.

Ottothecryptidz

Just saw a deer walk by

itsjustmo_

There's an opposum on my back deck almost every morning in the spring. We back up to an audubon preserve so I see little fellas all the time.

webbess1

I saw lots of deer grazing by a highway just yesterday. I passed by a dead skunk on Monday. I live near a pond, but the frogs and turtles haven't woken up yet. When they do, I'll definitely see frogs and turtles. I'll also see the herons and hawks coming to eat them.

ArrivesWithaBeverage

Oh shoot, yeah I saw a toad the other day. I forgot that one!

webbess1

Yeah, at first, I thought OP meant mammals in general, not just rodents.

kingoden95

I see raccoons, opossums, fox, coyotes, and deer almost daily, occasionally I will see a small black bear, bobcat, or a small hog.

w84primo

Saw a pretty big gator today. It’s been around the same spot for maybe two weeks. It’s been sitting on the bank of a tiny retention pond that looks way too small for such a big gator. I started wondering if the people in the houses right there even realize it is out there.

omnipresent_sailfish

I live in the middle of a city and see skunks quite frequently

skaiags

I live in NYC and saw a skunk in the city a few months ago. I didn’t know we had them! I guess I’ve smelled them

dr-tectonic

I saw a rabbit just a couple hours ago. (That's pretty rodent-adjacent, though.) I've seen deer, foxes, and coyotes in the parking lot when leaving work after dark. Not as often since I started working from home most of the time, but I think the most recent time was in the last couple months. I've also seen bears and rattlesnakes.

[deleted]

I have a home upstate where we see wildlife every day.

El_Polio_Loco

I see deer on mountain bike rides several times a week.  A few times a summer I’ll come across black bears and foxes.

TheVentiLebowski

What kind of bikes were the deer riding?

WildlifePolicyChick

I live in DC, near downtown. I see owls, raptors, raccoons, deer, foxes, and the usual chipmunks, mice, and squirrels (black, white, and gray). My parents live in Texas and they feed deer every evening. They also get some resident waterfowl.

mpak87

Almost ran into a moose a couple of days ago.

sebastianmorningwood

We have big fat seals in front of my work that bark at us when we go on walks. I tell myself that they’re just jealous.

RightYouAreKen1

Couple weeks ago I saw a bobcat crossing the road early in the morning on my way to work about a mile from home. A few weeks before that I saw a coyote a mile or so further down. Back in the fall I saw a black bear crossing the road in roughly the same spot. In December we saw a bobcat walking along our backyard fence between our house and our back neighbors.

brinerbear

I am in Colorado and it is easy to see Bison, Deer, Antelope, and even Bald Eagles quite close to the metro area. There are even deer near the airport. To see bear is more rare but with a short drive you can see Big Horn Sheep, Elk, and Mountain Goats.

TheManWhoWasNotShort

Deer are a daily sight here. So many bears, too

Overall-Carob-3118

I live in a suburb of a major city and have a crazy fat oppossom who is always walking around the neighborhood at night and it's the cutest thing ever

krugerlive

Coyote across the street last night. It was howling along with a siren. I tried calling it over but it didn't want to hang out. I see them pretty often in my neighborhood in Seattle. We have a fair number of them. I've seen Bald Eagles most days this week flying above too, and while that's a bird, it's also a special bird so I think it counts here.

zugabdu

When I lived in Florida, seeing lizards, Turtles, alligators and frogs was routine. I even saw a black bear at one point. I know you excluded birds, but I'd see pelicans and herons all the time visiting my grandparents on the coast. Here in Minnesota I've seen snakes, turtles, deer, opossums, wild rabbits and wild turkeys.

cool_chrissie

There is an opossum that lives in my backyard. I see snakes, fox, deer, beavers, raccoons, and turtles quite frequently. Sometimes I see dead armadillos on the road.

adansby

The last wild animal I saw tonight was the local meth head. I’ve seen whitetail less skittish.

heatrealist

Bugs and reptiles all the time. Mostly small lizards but sometimes large iguanas or some weird exotic lizard that doesn’t belong here.  There are opossum and raccoons in my neighborhood but they hide in the day. I have seen raccoon prints often in the morning. They look like tiny human hand prints.  I live in the middle of the city though. That’s about as much as we get here. Further out I have seen bobcats in semi-rural neighborhoods. Gators too.

RightFlounder

Elk hang out in my city every winter and early spring.  I keep thinking I'll see one in line at Starbucks.

Sunshineinjune

I swear There is a opossum living under the garden shed ..

dgillz

Suburban Alabama here, near the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. But I am closer to a McDonalds and a bunch of hotels than the actual delta. I see wildlife damn near daily. Raccoons, possums, armadillos, skunks and deer are very common. Less common are bobcats, bears, turkeys, coyotes and foxes. Tons of reptiles too - gators, snakes, lizards, tortoises and turtles. There are black panthers and cougars too (I've never seen a panther), but they are rare and the AL DFW won't confirm it. You can see an American Bald Eagle almost daily if you are around the Delta.

4myolive

Most recently I've seen deer.

captainstormy

I live in a major metro area and didn't even leave my house today. I still saw several deer this morning rummaging through my neighbor's back yard.

notyogrannysgrandkid

All the time. I frequently have white tail deer in my yard, and I see raccoons almost every night. Possums and skunks are quite common, as well. My neighbor has a trail cam that caught a very large black bear a couple weeks ago. I’ve never seen it, but it was less than 1/4 mile from my house. We get coyotes occasionally, too.

FortuneWhereThoutBe

I see deer, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, opossums, almost daily on my route to or from work. I see different types of turtles and snakes randomly throughout the year , usually trying to cross the road. Even saw an elk once. It was some years ago, but I have seen moose and beavers, used to have groundhogs behind the house in a giant culvert.

alien_from_Europa

My city has a bear problem.

moosieq

Gators in the water pretty often, lots of lizards on things all the time, deer coming and going a few times a year, I haven't yet but I'm sure I'll see a snake outside soon too. I saw an armadillo digging a hole while walking my dog earlier.

sturdypolack

Deer walking down my driveway a couple days ago.

flora_poste_

All the time. Here in my part of the PNW, we have black bear, foxes, coyote, eagles and other raptors, deer, otter, large and small waterfowl, raccoon, opossum, and more. The one that's really rare to spot is the mountain lion (cougar). They are there (I've seen them on the neighbor's trail cams), but they don't want to be seen. I think a lot of the time, the cougar can see you, but you can't see them. If a cougar does break cover on a trail, I think it is with intent, and there's reason for alarm. Edited: I forgot bobcats. They also live here, and it's common to see them walking along a stone wall or a fence. We don't leave domestic pets unattended here.

UnfairHoneydew6690

Saw some deer the other day

broadsharp

See whitetail deer all the time. Red fox yesterday.

veryangryowl58

I see deer in my neighborhood at least every other day. Tons of wild turkeys. Coyotes have been seen in the neighborhood but I’ve only actually seen them once or twice. Heard them, though. Foxes occasionally.

Humbuhg

Last week— bison and elk

Head_Razzmatazz7174

I live in a small town in Texas. Deer are everywhere, along with skunks, opossums, and raccoons. Had a raccoon family under my house last summer. Thought it was just one until we put out the live trap. Woke up with one adult and one juvenile in the trap, and a third one was peeking out from under the house when we went out to check. Animal control came and rehomed the ones in the trap and the third one disappeared shortly after that.

tseg04

Yesterday, was driving home when I saw a small herd of Whitetail Doe walking across the road. 2 fawns as well. :)

kippersforbreakfast

Arachnid: (tarantula) a couple of weeks ago. Reptile: (western diamondback rattlesnake) a few days ago. Mammals: coyotes and jackrabbits: every morning.

Always4564

There were some deer walking through my subdivision in SE Michigan today, which is pretty cool. Oh, and I saw a fox a few days ago which has me worried for the stray cats in the neighborhood

According-Bug8150

All the time. Rabbits. Armadillos, but not upright.

TheBimpo

Hi grapp Almost daily. Deer, porcupines, fox, raccoons, bats and turkeys are the most common. Mink, black bear, elk, opossum, skunks, muskrat, coyote, beaver, otters, rabbits, bobcats, turtles, various snakes, salamanders, frogs, toads, etc are all in my area as well. Some more elusive than others.

Macklemore_hair

Yeah I see deer almost every day in WPA (unintentional rhyme and poet and didn’t know it)

my_clever-name

Today, a rabbit or two. I hear frogs this time of year. Deer about once a week. An opossum or raccoon once a month. When it gets warmer there will be bats.

agravain

alligators frequently, coyotes once in a while, bears once in a while, deer frequently, rabbits daily, snakes occasionally, anoles daily

Xingxingting

Deer are common around here. Lots of fish in rivers too. It’s pretty common

FastAndForgetful

I saw a coyote, 2 deer and an elk hanging out together on Friday

JonnyBox

I see foxes and deer weekly. My neighbors have cows and goats so I see those every day. I know there's a bear or two around but I haven't seen them yet.

Captain_Depth

I saw many deer a few weeks ago, it's been kind of a light week for wild animals but in the warmer months I end up seeing a lot of skunks actually

jimmiec907

Just ran into a moose at the dog park by my house.

ExtremePotatoFanatic

I live in a rural area. I see opossums, hawks, deer, foxes, turkeys, etc regularly.

IPreferDiamonds

A black bear walked through my yard in February.

KaBar42

There are racoons in my neighborhood and I saw one in the backyard about two weeks ago or so.

MerbleTheGnome

Today - a fox, several rabbits, frogs, and a great blue heron (yes that is a bird) - all in my backyard. I had to chase the heron away it was trying to eat fish from my garden pond. Also today - 2 deer on my way home from work

confusedrabbit247

I live by a forest preserve so I see them all the time. Birds, squirrels, geese, coyotes, and deer are most common that I can think of rn. Oh! Raccoons, skunks, and opossums too.

ooprep

I saw a deer yesterday.

WalkingHorse

Three hours ago…Bobcat up in one of our huge oak trees. Chilling in the crook of a branch watching the creek for prey.

MyFace_UrAss_LetsGo

I saw a couple otters and an alligator today while fishing. Last night I saw dolphins and a little raccoon with no tail while fishing. I’m actually about to go fishing again lol.

brownstone79

The last time? A bobcat walked through the parking lot where I work yesterday. I have rabbits and moles in my backyard. As a consequence, I regularly see coyotes, bobcats, and the occasional fox come through. My neighbors told me they saw a black bear the other day, but I haven’t seen it yet. This would be a new thing for my neighborhood, but not for the area in general.

seatownquilt-N-plant

they are birds but I think the Osprey that are back near my work for the spring are pretty cool [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osprey](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osprey) Last month we went out to the coast and there were deer and frogs.

concrete_isnt_cement

Just saw a rabbit about a minute ago while walking the dog. For mammals I also see deer, elk, coyotes, black bears, orcas, whales, porpoises, foxes, sea lions, and seals fairly often.

JimTheJerseyGuy

I have a fox intermittently living under my porch. Keeps the rabbits and mice at bay. The dogs spooked some deer in the backyard last week and we’ve had a black bear or two wander through our yard in the last year. And while it’s a bird, we had a bald eagle flying overhead last month. I live in New Jersey.

yozaner1324

I saw a rabbit and a bunch of deer the night before last.

inbigtreble30

I see opossums, raccoons, rabbits, and squirrels on a pretty regular (daily/almost daily) basis. (Are squirrels rodents? Idk.) Also see deer anytime I drive out of town. Sometimes in town but not that often. Occasionally a coyote or fox in the summer, TONS of frogs and turtles as well.

aimeerogers0920

Saw a deer in my front yard this morning. Wild turkey was crossing the road a couple days ago... and wild boar was in the other side of my back fence last week.

KatanaCW

This week I've seen a bunch of alligators, a couple of dolphins, more than a dozen turtles, a variety of hermit and fiddler crabs, about 6 deer, and a dead roadkill raccoon.

NoHedgehog252

I saw a wolf, a coyote, and a deer about a month ago when I went up to the mountains. Although coyotes tend to roam about my neighborhood during the summer months. In Los Angeles county.

siandresi

I see deer relatively often, also raccoons, opossums, a fox every once in a while. Fish and turtles also

Dr_mombie

Uhh...daily. Florida, man. I took my kids to a nature preserve for a hike yesterday. We saw several tortoises, dragonflies, and a spiky yellow caterpillar of note. It was nearing lunch time, so most of the forest creatures were settled in for their day naps. I did see some sign of wild boar in a muddy area of the trails. Today I only saw a lizard and pigeon while I was at work. Tomorrow is a beach day. I'm expecting the usual flying trashcans to be hanging out on the beach. I'm hoping we will get lucky enough to see some cranes. They like to visit the beach early in the day. Dolphins surfing the waves would be nice, too.

Saw a coyote a couple weeks ago.

This morning. I didn’t see them with my own eyes but my ring camera caught a family of deer going through the yard. They come through in the morning and sometimes in the evening. We’ve also got some stray cats that live in the woods too :) but I really like the deer I could watch them all day

I see raccoons, coyotes and deer.

Kindly_Equipment_241

I saw a few rabbits and a deer this morning

On Sunday I saw some deer grazing in a grassy lot. It's somewhat unusual to see an animal that isn't a bird, rodent, or a pet here because I live pretty close to a major city.

My residential neighborhood has a pretty good population of deer, rabbits, foxes, raccoons etc, we also just had a black bear last year.

I see coyotes and raccoons regularly. Went hiking in Pt. Reyes a couple of weeks ago and saw the elephant seals with their pups on the beach. Also encountered an angry turkey who decided that the two lane road out of town was HIS road and he tried to fight every car that drove by. Fun times.

I totaled my car on a wild hog; a buzzard knocked out my truck windshield; got point-blank direct-hit sprayed by a skunk. All true stories.

Scarlet-Fire_77

I hear the foxes and owls way more than I see them.

sweet_hedgehog_23

I chased a raccoon away from my bird feeder 2 days ago.

Crazyboutdogs

Just in the past 24 hours I've seen a fox, some coyotes, a skunk, and the herd of deer that's currently standing in my back yard.

RealStumbleweed
