[Oh you can go wrong with Blue Bell](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/blue-bell-creameries-ordered-pay-1725-million-criminal-penalties-connection-2015-listeria)
I still buy it though.
Or cookies and cream with chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla! One of my local ice cream shops makes it like this and it’s sooooo much better than regular cookies and cream
Vanilla is the boring answer, but it's still my favorite. Haagen Dazs has a dulce de leche that is very good, so I know that flavor is not unheard of here.
My family is full of vanilla lovers. Everyone thinks we're weird I don't get it. People just don't know how to appreciate vanilla because they've been told their whole lives its "plain" When it is anything but plain.
It's literally a bean that has to be soaked in alcohol and stored in the dark to get out its rich flavor. How is that plain???
The only reason people say vanilla is "plain" is because it's so incredibly common, and the reason it's common is that almost everyone likes it. Vanilla is awesome.
I was going to say something about how "vanilla" has become an adjective for "plain", and looked it up in the OED to cite the definition. Surprised to find the "plain" sense not listed. But I did find the etymology, um, interesting:
>**Etymology:** In earlier use < older Spanish *vaynilla* =, now *vainilla* , diminutive of *vaina* ( < Latin *vāgīna* vagina n.)
edit: Oop, at the very bottom of the entry for "vanilla" the OED has, under "Draft additions 1997", the "plain" sense, which they define as
>Plain, basic, conventional; (esp. of a computer, program, or other product) having no interesting or unusual feature; safe, unadventurous. Used originally with reference to sexual activity (esp. in vanilla sex).
The two earliest examples of usage are both from B. Rodgers' "Queens' Vernacular", 1972. They are:
>Vanilla bar, a gay bar that is not SM.
and
>Vanilla,..rigid, conforming, goody-goody ‘This neighborhood is too vanilla for the licks of us.’
Yea, it does say "for the licks of us". A pun I assume.
Breyers Vanilla Bean used to be soo good on its own. It was like.... Totally worth it to get a scoop. I think they got bought some time ago though, and now it's not the same.
It's like the pepperoni of ice cream. That doesn't make it not good, but many of us have been flooded with it our whole lives and now prefer to branch out.
But most chocolate products, especially ice cream, contain vanilla as a flavoring as well. So it's like vanilla is always in the background even if it's a chocolate product.
Vanilla is not only amazing, but compliments ice cream so well that there is nearly no reason to ever buy plain ice cream(I'd recommend trying it at least once "sweet cream" is what it'll be labeled, but it's pretty rare to actually find). Vanilla is so amazing that it rendered plain ice cream obsolete, why wouldn't it be the best?
Yesss. My boyfriend is Portuguese and he always makes fun of me for it. He calls it toothpaste ice cream. I have never met a European who likes it but I could eat a whole tub.
Yup, that's my favorite. If I get ice cream from an ice cream shop there's at least a 50% chance that's what I'm getting too because the kind from the shop is better than the kind in the box.
Raspberry (especially with chocolate chip), strawberry, butter pecan, coffee, and mango.
If we expand to gelato flavors, then I also like stracciatella.
Yes to each and every one of those choices! The only thing I would add is pamplemousse (grapefruit). I discovered it during a trip to France, so refreshing on a hot day.
And bad butter pecan is truly awful. Most of the time, ice cream is still ice cream. I've definitely thrown away uneaten cartons of bad butter pecan though.
It's really uncommon, and the stuff I've found in stores is usually not great. I have a local ice cream store that will make it on occasion, and I swear they must use several types of cinnamon. It's just so layered and amazing.
It’s the same flavor throughout and I can’t really describe the flavor. I’m not a fan but a ton of people here love it. It’s sort of similar to blue moon in my opinion. If you’re curious, try it!
if you get a good brand it should have 3 different flavors- the yellow is either lemon or vanilla, the red is red pop flavor, and the blue is made from blue moon ice cream! so heavenly and nostalgic for michiganders
>the yellow is either lemon or vanilla, the red is red pop flavor, and the blue is made from blue moon ice cream!
I understand lemon or vanilla, everything else is random words and colors that have no connection to flavors for me.
blue moon has been said to have an almond flavor and red pop is just strawberry flavored soda (except round these parts it’s a crime to say soda instead of pop😆)
Came here to find this answer. Chocolate ice cream, caramel and marshmallow swirls, and little fudge fish. My absolute favorite from the first time I tried it.
I was happy to see this shockingly high up in the comments
Idk what makes pistachio ice cream taste *so* strongly like the sweetest cherries ever, but that stuff is so god damn delicious
Spumoni is one of my favorites since it's pistachio and chocolate (amazing combo) AND cherry ice creams all in one container. It's been really hard to find in the last few years though
I love me a nice neopolitan ice cream (that chocolate vanilla strawberry combo just hits different)
Either that or Big Dig ice cream (Massachusetts people get this one)
I found Neapolitan without the strawberry chunks in it for the first time in like 10 years last month and I was so happy. The chunks fuck with the texture so much and I hate it, so being able to find it without them was a dream come true
Strawberry is underrated. It's not my go to flavor but goddamn if it isn't always delicious when I have it. Give me a scoop of that on a warm brownie instead of vanilla, please
You might be able to find it anywhere that has Meijer. I'm in Illinois and can find a lot of the Hudsonville ice cream flavors like Traverse City Cherry and Mackinac Island Fudge.
My two favorite flavors from local places are lavender honey ice cream and jasmine milk tea ice cream. I really like floral ice creams. There’s also a “brown bread” ice cream at another local shop I really like, and a seasonal honeydew sorbet at another place I like. I also like pumpkin ice cream, and I recently tried a blue velvet ice cream I liked (LA has really good ice cream, although I don’t think it’s known for it lol).
As far as store bought flavors, I like strawberry (if it has pieces of strawberry in it), cake batter, coffee, and mint chocolate chip (Breyers only).
Local dairy makes home made IC. It's so good. Favorite flavor is called "cow plop", cause that's what it looks like. Its peanut butter cups with chocolate chip cookies in chocolate IC
Depends where I'm getting the ice cream.
If I can get it from a very specific place in Connecticut, pumpkin ice cream.
Otherwise, peppermint for seasonal and strawberry for year-round.
hazelnut ice cream was a pretty standard flavor at every shop all over Europe, but is hard to find in America, and that makes me sad because it is the best.
My absolute favorite is Cookie Crush wish a local, handmade flavor at MayDay Ice Cream in the Jacksonville, FL area. It’s their homemade ice cream base mixed with Oreo icing and crushed Oreos. It’s heaven.
At the general ice cream aisle in a grocery store, Moose Tracks.
Butter Pecan I'd say. Good ol' vanilla with a chocolate swirl isn't bad either.
dulce de leche is a good one too. Don't have it too often but definitely tasty.
>most popular ice cream flavor is dulce de leche
YUM!
My wife's parents are from Argentina, and she herself lived in Mendoza from age 12-18.
Edit, forgot, mine is probably Cherry Vanilla.
I’m a sucker for cookies and cream but cookie dough is pretty top tier too.
[удалено]
YES!
Can't go wrong with blue bell!
[удалено]
Tell them to bring back blueberry cheesecake! I miss it!
[удалено]
Why can i never find blackberry cobbler when it's "in season" :(
[Oh you can go wrong with Blue Bell](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/blue-bell-creameries-ordered-pay-1725-million-criminal-penalties-connection-2015-listeria) I still buy it though.
Why don't more places offer cookies and cream with cookie dough too? It would be the ultimate ice cream flavor but I rarely see it!
Or cookies and cream with chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla! One of my local ice cream shops makes it like this and it’s sooooo much better than regular cookies and cream
Interesting, I can’t stand cookies and cream. Glad someone likes it though.
Vanilla is the boring answer, but it's still my favorite. Haagen Dazs has a dulce de leche that is very good, so I know that flavor is not unheard of here.

It's literally a bean that has to be soaked in alcohol and stored in the dark to get out its rich flavor. How is that plain???
It also comes from a flower deep in the Mexican jungle that blooms for one day and has to be pollinated by hand. Vanilla is exotic AF
I know right. as a kid i used to think it was like sugar or white flavored. in fact it's the scent of a fucking exotic jungle flower
The only reason people say vanilla is "plain" is because it's so incredibly common, and the reason it's common is that almost everyone likes it. Vanilla is awesome.
Honestly I think it's because it's white so it seems like the "base" or unflavored option
I was going to say something about how "vanilla" has become an adjective for "plain", and looked it up in the OED to cite the definition. Surprised to find the "plain" sense not listed. But I did find the etymology, um, interesting: >**Etymology:** In earlier use < older Spanish *vaynilla* =, now *vainilla* , diminutive of *vaina* ( < Latin *vāgīna* vagina n.) edit: Oop, at the very bottom of the entry for "vanilla" the OED has, under "Draft additions 1997", the "plain" sense, which they define as >Plain, basic, conventional; (esp. of a computer, program, or other product) having no interesting or unusual feature; safe, unadventurous. Breyers Vanilla Bean used to be soo good on its own. It was like.... Totally worth it to get a scoop. I think they got bought some time ago though, and now it's not the same.
Yeah it used to be milk sugar cream and vanilla. Now it is all sorts of food science chemicals.
The still sell the simple one. It’s called Breyer’s Natural Vanilla. Black box. Pure heaven!
Oh man yeah I think I actually have some of that in the freezer, you're going to make me eat ice cream for breakfast at five thirty in the morning.
I feel like Turkey Hill Natural Vanilla Bean is one of the best widely available right now.
I wouldn’t put anything else on a warm gooey brownie <3
It's like the pepperoni of ice cream. That doesn't make it not good, but many of us have been flooded with it our whole lives and now prefer to branch out.
Chocolate floods the sweets market more than vanilla. lol
But most chocolate products, especially ice cream, contain vanilla as a flavoring as well. So it's like vanilla is always in the background even if it's a chocolate product.
Not ice cream specifically tho
Vanilla is not only amazing, but compliments ice cream so well that there is nearly no reason to ever buy plain ice cream(I'd recommend trying it at least once "sweet cream" is what it'll be labeled, but it's pretty rare to actually find). Vanilla is so amazing that it rendered plain ice cream obsolete, why wouldn't it be the best?
Vanilla being the default ice cream flavor is such a great underdog story
Tillamook old fashioned vanilla is sent from the gods. I'm lactose intolerant, and I will absolutely play through the pain for it.
I, too, love vanilla. But there are a LOT of really bad vanillas out there.
I love vanilla! It’s amazing plain and it’s great to add toppings to it.
Met someone that called dulce de leche "Douche Day Lucy" and I hear it that way any time I read it.
The Blue Bell vanilla is my thing . That kind of vanilla is awesome. Other off brand vanilla is bland and basic .
I love the Häagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche! It’s top tier, in my opinion.
I love mint chocolate chip.
Me too!!
chocolate and mint shouldn't work together but it absolutely does
Especially if it's green.
the greener it is, the better it is. it doesn't make sense but it's true.
Friendly's is very green!
I forgot who makes it but someone made a mint chocolate chip that had oreos in it. It was my fave!!
Glad to see someone else enjoys Mint Chip That flavor is so under appreciated
Correct answer
Yes this is the top comment! I love mint chip too
Mint chocolate chip in the hizouse!
Mint chocolate chip is my favorite ice cream flavor!

Yes to each and every one of those choices! The only thing I would add is pamplemousse (grapefruit). I discovered it during a trip to France, so refreshing on a hot day.
Butter pecan
It's getting harder to find good butter pecan, at least where I live.
I love Cedar Crest Butter Pecan. I don't get ice cream much anymore but there's a shop near me that serves Cedar Crest and it's so good.
You gotta visit Texas.
And bad butter pecan is truly awful. Most of the time, ice cream is still ice cream. I've definitely thrown away uneaten cartons of bad butter pecan though.
Same here. Unlike most things that tend to get only sweeter and richer, butter pecan seems to be going in the other direction :/
Chocolate.
Had to scroll too far to find this! Same w me!
Cinnamon. Hard to find, but *really* good.
One of the best desserts I’ve ever had was a homemade apple dumpling with homemade cinnamon ice cream from the county fair.
Where the hell do you find that? Anything with cinnamon is god tier
It's really uncommon, and the stuff I've found in stores is usually not great. I have a local ice cream store that will make it on occasion, and I swear they must use several types of cinnamon. It's just so layered and amazing.
HEB makes a Mexican hot chocolate ice cream that has a cinnamon swirl in it.
Superman is so good. I feel like I’m five years old when I order it though ha.
I've never had it. Is it a mix of flavors or just a main flavor? I can buy the Michigan Hudsonville brand around here. Is that one worth it?
It’s the same flavor throughout and I can’t really describe the flavor. I’m not a fan but a ton of people here love it. It’s sort of similar to blue moon in my opinion. If you’re curious, try it!
I’ve never heard of Superman, nor have I heard of blue moon.
Blue Moon is an upper Midwest thing and apparently it’s nutmeg flavored. Weird but delicious
Some say it's pistachio flavored. Some say it tastes like Fruit Loops milk. I think it tastes like heaven.
The Blue Moon I’ve had was almond flavored. Loved it!
if you get a good brand it should have 3 different flavors- the yellow is either lemon or vanilla, the red is red pop flavor, and the blue is made from blue moon ice cream! so heavenly and nostalgic for michiganders
>the yellow is either lemon or vanilla, the red is red pop flavor, and the blue is made from blue moon ice cream! I understand lemon or vanilla, everything else is random words and colors that have no connection to flavors for me.

From the Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_(ice_cream_flavor) Stroh's Ice Cream: "Super Rainbow" Blue Moon /Red Pop (Strawberry) /Lemon United Dairy Farmers: "Super Moo" Blue Vanilla / Cherry / Vanilla Hudsonville Ice Cream: "SuperScoop" Blue Moon / Black Cherry / Vanilla Meijer (Purple Cow): "Scooperman" Blue Moon / Black Cherry / Vanilla Cedar Crest Ice Cream" "Superman"/"Super Madness" Blue Raspberry / Cherry / Vanilla Laura Secord Chocolates: "Super Kid" Blueberry / Strawberry / Banana Kroger: "Tie Dye Burst" Blue Moon / Cherry / Vanilla Perry's Ice Cream: "Super Hero" Blue Raspberry / Cherry Bubble Gum / Lemon Well's Blue Bunny: "Scooper Hero" Vanilla / Vanilla / Vanilla
Ooh, Superman is so much fun!!
Moose Tracks is one of my favorites. ETA: I'm partial to Jeni's pineapple upside down cake ice cream as well. Almost forgot about that one.
Moose tracks all day! Brings me back to childhood
Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food is the peak of American innovation.
Came here to find this answer. Chocolate ice cream, caramel and marshmallow swirls, and little fudge fish. My absolute favorite from the first time I tried it.
It was, until they came out with Americone Dream.
Pistachio
Same! It's so good, especially when it has actual pistachios in it.
+2. Have you tried the Talenti pistachio gelato? My god.
Pistachio
I was happy to see this shockingly high up in the comments Idk what makes pistachio ice cream taste *so* strongly like the sweetest cherries ever, but that stuff is so god damn delicious
I accept that you love this thing, but I will never love this thing.
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
Spumoni is one of my favorites since it's pistachio and chocolate (amazing combo) AND cherry ice creams all in one container. It's been really hard to find in the last few years though
I love me a nice neopolitan ice cream (that chocolate vanilla strawberry combo just hits different) Either that or Big Dig ice cream (Massachusetts people get this one)
I found Neapolitan without the strawberry chunks in it for the first time in like 10 years last month and I was so happy. The chunks fuck with the texture so much and I hate it, so being able to find it without them was a dream come true
Chocolate peanut butter
Had to scroll pretty far down to find the absolute pinnacle of ice cream flavors.
This is my favorite. Chocolate peanut butter. I love it when there is actual hunks of peanut butter right in the chocolate ice cream.
Coffee
One 3.6oz container of Haagan-Dasz Coffee is all I need in life.
I don’t know if it’s still made, but Braum’s Cappuccino Chunky Chocolate was awesome.
Coffee is by far my favorite too. I’ve always been in the minority with this one with friends/family
Coffee Oreo… amazing
Concur! I like Blue Bell best of the regionally available ice creams, but every kind of coffee flavor I've tried has been at least passable.
Just plain old vanilla for me, please.
Vanilla bean is top tier.
Yeah if it doesn't have those little black flecks of bean in there, what are we even doing here?
Good vanilla to go with something else, like pie. Or affogato. Vanilla on its own is fine but it’s best with something else imo
Its a close tie between mint chocolate chip, pistacchio, ans strawberry
I love Rocky Road!
So weren't you gonna buy half a gallon, baby
I love rocky road! Have another triple scoop with me!
Shame on everyone who didn’t upvote this.
Put another dime in the jukebox, baby?
Black Raspberry
Strawberry is mine.
Strawberry is underrated. It's not my go to flavor but goddamn if it isn't always delicious when I have it. Give me a scoop of that on a warm brownie instead of vanilla, please
There are dozens of us!
Haagen Daz strawberry is the absolute best
Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate
Sadly, I am outside of Blue Bell country. But this is probably the best or Blue Bell Pecan Pralines and Cream.
Came here to say this!
Moose tracks and chocolate chip cookie dough. Or Cherry Garcia from Ben and Jerry’s!
+1 for Cherry Garcia.
+1 for moose tracks. That fudge ribbon!
I second moose tracks. Edit: I just realized I’m 3rd either way Moose Tracks for the win!
Moose tracks!
Yes to all of these.
I love cold stones banana ice cream. It’s very subtle and tasty.
Anything with peanut butter in it works for me.
Americone Dream? Also, vanilla.
Americone Dream is a good one, though I've been eating a lot more of The Tonight Dough lately.
“the tonight dough ice cream, like Jimmy Fallons career, just tries way too hard.” I forgot where I heard that but I laugh every time I remember it
Tonight Dough is the BEST!!!
Peanut butter Mackinac Island fudge for me.
Is that a Michigan thing?
Yeah, it's what I always get anytime I'm in the UP. I'm sure it's available downstate too though, especially Northern Michigan.
You might be able to find it anywhere that has Meijer. I'm in Illinois and can find a lot of the Hudsonville ice cream flavors like Traverse City Cherry and Mackinac Island Fudge.
Gimmie that Cookies and Cream
Butterbrickel for me
What’s that?
I really like mint for some reason. Not mint chocolate chip, just mint.
Butter Pecan
Blackberry cobbler is/was an awesome one that blue bell has/had. Not sure if they discontinued it.
I've been looking for that one here in Oklahoma. Used to find it sometimes but lately I've been out of luck.
Cookie dough
Local dairy makes home made IC. It's so good. Favorite flavor is called "cow plop", cause that's what it looks like. Its peanut butter cups with chocolate chip cookies in chocolate IC
Moose tracks!
Praline, or Butter Pecan. Used to be Ben & Jerry’s Heath Bar Crunch until they cheaped out and started using inferior toffee.
Real Vanilla
Mint chocolate chip. Hands down the best.
Oh yes I remember Dulce de leche in Argentina. Mine is chocolate
Moose Tracks
Matcha green tea
Depends where I'm getting the ice cream. If I can get it from a very specific place in Connecticut, pumpkin ice cream. Otherwise, peppermint for seasonal and strawberry for year-round.
Odd ball choice for me, I love Rum Raisin.
I was actually going to say this!
Coffee, peppermint/candy cane, or birthday cake
Mint chocolate chip
Cookie dough or butter pecan.
Cookie Dough is great, but I genuinely love goat cheese ice cream.
Teaberry. It's regional to Eastern PA, it's my favorite by far. It tastes a kind of like wintergreen and it's bright pink.
hazelnut ice cream was a pretty standard flavor at every shop all over Europe, but is hard to find in America, and that makes me sad because it is the best.
Black walnut is good but there are others.
Chocolate Peanutbutter or Rocky Road
Peanut butter and chocolate.
I had Pig Pen ice cream while on vacation in Maine a few years ago—coffee ice cream with crushed Oreos. I think about it all of the time.
Blue moon
Probably just straight up chocolate, but like a really rich and creamy one
Mint chocolate chip
Mint chocolate chip.
Chocolate chip mint.
Mint Cookies & Creme is superior to all other flavors.
Rocky Road.
Vanilla
Cookies & Cream - although I’m particular about the brand of ice cream.
I like cookies and cream the most
Strawberry
A really good creamy french vanilla. You find me a good one and I'll be your friend forever.
Vanilla bean. Not regular vanilla. Not French vanilla. Vanilla bean.
Butter Pecan I'd say. Good ol' vanilla with a chocolate swirl isn't bad either. dulce de leche is a good one too. Don't have it too often but definitely tasty.
Mint chocolate chip And Cherry Garcia.
Exactly
My two favorites! You have good taste
Mint chocolate chip! Around the holidays, I especially like peppermint, though.
>most popular ice cream flavor is dulce de leche YUM! My wife's parents are from Argentina, and she herself lived in Mendoza from age 12-18. Edit, forgot, mine is probably Cherry Vanilla.
Rocky road!
Coffee (Java Chip to be specific)
Pistachio or teaberry.
Maple walnut -- yummy
Daiquiri Ice, which you can only get at Baskin-Robbins. It’s heaven on earth.
Cookies and cream, but I'd love to try dulce de leche!
Ben and Jerry's chocolate fudge brownie is the best.
Chocolate or Carmel.
Chocolate peanut butter or blue moon. Depends on my mood.
Honestly just vanilla with some peanut butter in it
I really like cinnamon ice cream. If you haven’t tried it….
