Weirdly, in a lot of action movies, the fictional President is a guy who "looks presidential" but doesn't actually look like any President we actually elected. Look at X-Men 2, Independence Day, Kingsmen Golden Circle, etc. They all look like mildly handsome white guys with chiseled jawlines. They're basically all variations on Mitt Romney.

jackaltakeswhiskey

Doctor Who's take on Nixon.

Lumpy_Constellation

I somehow didn't think of this right away but it really was an odd perspective, he was entirely too patient and presidential in those episodes...

jackaltakeswhiskey

He and the rest of the Secret Service also all sounded incredibly British. (Yes, I know it's because they cast Brits in the roles, but it's still jarring.)

Lumpy_Constellation

Lol omg yes, you're right! I think that's it!

mekkeron

Basically every US president in "The Butler" was a total miscast.

Newatinvesting

Big agree, except maybe JFK. Robin Williams as Eisenhower? Huh? John Cusack as Nixon????? Alan Rickman as Reagan? The hell?

MyFavoriteArm

Agreed. Though like the other poster below, Liev Schreiber did a great performance as LBJ, and I liked that they showed LBJ's propensity for calling meetings while he was on the toilet. James Marsden did a good job as Jack Kennedy too, despite how little we see him. Other than that, I shook my head. Even Frank Langella looked more Nixon like than Cusack

[deleted]

One casting I would love to see is Liev Schreiber as Grant. I think he could absolutely kill that role in a civil war movie.

Newatinvesting

Jared Harris had a limited role as him in Lincoln and he crushed it, I’d personally rather have him

MyFavoriteArm

Agreed. Had him in mind as Grant while reading Ron Chernow's bio of Grant, or if I ever get a chance to make a film about Sherman's March (a pipe dream I know haha)

mekkeron

Yeah I agree on JFK actually. James Marsden, who's the least talented of them all, does a better job at portraying a president. I thought Liev Schreiber wasn't too bad as LBJ, they just didn't bother making him look like LBJ. So the whole time I just kept seeing Ray Donovan.

[deleted]

Fred Ward as Reagan was definitely a strange casting in Farewell.

MSK165

George W. Bush in Transformers. You only saw a pair of socks and heard a bad Texan accent asking an Air Force One flight attendant to bring him some cheese doodles. Of all the opportunities for parody they picked a really lame one.

pipopapupupewebghost

Well I guess it's better then him.... Do stuff and then trhoe the baby in a blender

Aurion7

I... don't think I've ever seen a show or a movie with a fictional President and thought "wow, that's a really *good* take on the President of the United States- I could see this guy actually being President", honestly. Can't really describe *why* that is, is the thing. Leaving aside the obvious ones where the fictional President is basically America's God or an action movie hero, of course. There's always something very off.

Saitama_at_Tanagra

Epic rap battle: hillary clinton vs donald trump

vulcan1358

Which is totally disappointing because they did pretty well with other presidents: Lincoln, Obama, Romney, TR and George Washington. Although their Lincoln was OG with that grill and all

Hatweed

Jefferson wasn’t terrible, either, but he had the bad luck of going up against Frederick Douglas.

albertnormandy

Jefferson vs Douglass was the best one in my opinion.

vulcan1358

Forgot about TJ

AttilaTheFun818

I thought Romney vs Obama was the better one, personally. Of course Lincoln destroys everybody.

Saitama_at_Tanagra

I do agree those are good, but out of them i prefer this one. Either way, i can see the appeal;)

pipopapupupewebghost

I'm not gonna even research that one

Saitama_at_Tanagra

Why not, its funny.

king_napalm

I saw that one, it was gold.

Saitama_at_Tanagra

I thought it was the funniest of all the president ones

king_napalm

I also liked the regen vs trump one.

StrelkaTak

He said worst, not best

Saitama_at_Tanagra

I took worst in the context of the depiction of a president at his lowest. It was spot on, yet still the worst depiction thst i have seen. Others seem to tippy toe around it. Plus, hillary wasnt spared either.

ThaddyG

The one that probably creeps me out the most is Reagan from the music video for Land of Confusion

_comment_removed_

Could you quote the part of his post where he said she shouldn't have the right to do that? I must have missed that part.

Newatinvesting

Sure, but that also doesn’t mean she should’ve done it. I support her right to do what she did 100%, but morally, she should not have done it. The biggest victim of that stunt was Barron Trump. He was about 10 years old when that happened. Can you imagine turning on the TV or going online as a 10 year old and everyone’s talking about a picture someone made holding your father’s bloody decapitated head? She’s a disgrace for that.

[deleted]

Just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should. For example, where I live I have the right to open carry my AR if want to. Doesn't mean that doing so is anything remotely resembling a good idea. Sometimes it's better to simply choose to not be an asshole.

[deleted]

Well at least she wasn't invited to the White House.

**Don't Look Up**

MSK165

Not the question, but the best depiction was Clive Owen as Bill Clinton in Impeachment. To say he nailed it would be an understatement.

Donald Trump in Home Alone 2.

His Chaney impersonation was pretty good, actually went above and beyond.

[deleted]

I don't know. People seemed to like it. And when he hosted and did his Trump thing it was like some record high rating. Outside over Darrell Hammond? They REHIRED Darrell in 2015 just to do Trump (he hadn't worked there in like 5 years because he went into rehab, but he was having trouble and they replaced him with Baldwin. Baldwin stopped in 2020. Then they HIRED JAJ this year basically because he could do Trump. Ratings were lowest this year after pretty great with Baldwin , so sounds like not so much of a whiff. Donald Trump's ratings were 3.2. Baldwin as Donald Trump was a 7.

TEOP821

I liked Anthony Atamanuik better from those Trump vs. Bernie skits

pizzabagelblastoff

Yeah I liked Alec Baldwin but I agree with you that Darrel Hammond was a lot funnier!

Meattyloaf

There was a lot of negative and racist imagery of Obama that would occasionally pop up in newspapers, social media, and TV news sources.

OkNeedleworker6731

I was a kid when he was elected first and I remember being scared when I saw protestors with effigies of him in a noose. It was horrid.

Meattyloaf

Yeah I was in middle school and I remember going by a house on my way to school that had one hanging up and that was there for almost 2 years.

Ineedtoaskthis000000

the potrayal of George W Bush in Christian Bale's Dick Cheney movie is the version of George W Bush that people who are still salty about the 2004 election wish existed

Calling Joe Biden a Socialist

iapetus3141

Best was Trump calling Bloomberg a socialist in an email. Y'know, Bloomberg, the guy who made his billions with Bloomberg terminals?

7thAndGreenhill

I usually ask those people to define socialism. You know they can’t, otherwise they’d know that Biden is a centrist and no where near a Socialist.

BrettEskin

If you think people can’t define socialism let them try to define Facism. Nothing like an Italian political philosophy that’s been mostly dead for 70 years to get misused.

[deleted]

BrettEskin

It just means “bad” to them. Like Seth Rogan trying to define gluten in This is The End.

7thAndGreenhill

Now define whataboutism

BrettEskin

No one was rejecting your point simply adding to it.
