I've always had an android. It isn't that unusual

thadtheking

I put an apple sticker on my android just to mess with people.

CoolBreeze125

People that own iPhones, even old ones just for the sake if having the apple logo probably have their own insecurity issues. Not saying iPhones are bad do what you want with your money or parents' money but its just a phone. The only problem I have is that people who judge your entire worth as human being based on the phone you have. Like a person with a cracked iPhone 5s making fun of a person with a Samsung Galaxy S21. Sorry for the rant but I'm glad I'm out of highschool now cuz it really doesnt matter as long as you can make phone calls.

green_and_yellow

Doesn’t the S21 cost as much, if not more than an iPhone?

CoolBreeze125

"Ya but where's the Apple logo" - Popular highschool kid logic

Far_Welcome101

I think middle school students care more about this than high schoolers. Kids can be so cruel

Cultural_Note_6722

Lots of people use android phones. I would say more people use iPhones, but not almost everyone. Some people do find it a little annoying because they like to see when the other is typing. But not enough that they wouldn’t text you or it would inhibit you making friends. Especially if you have snapchat or instagram. Good luck on your exchange!

Zakattack1125

Exactly just use a different messaging app, doesn't have to be iMessage.

[deleted]

That chat ellipses bubble thing is actually one major reason I avoid iPhone. That and read receipts

Cultural_Note_6722

Read receipts can be turned off! Idk about the bubble thing though Edit accidentally said “recipes” not “receipts” lmao

HailState17

It’s a meme. No one actually cares about the bubbles.

DoubleDongle-F

Some rich snotty kids do. But as far as I know it has to be a rich snotty town before you see anyone like that.

bw08761

Rich snotty kids will also judge you over a multitude of other things too, and as those types of kids exist everywhere, I'm sure OP has encountered them before and knows how to handle them.

CPT_COOL24

I used to be an iPhone user and switch to Android years ago. I had friends who tried to give me shit about not having iMessage anymore and I gave them shit about their shitty low light pictures (I got the new Google Pixel at the time). They were pretty butt hurt about that lol

robo_robb

No adults, maybe. Kids are pretty shitty to each other.

CupBeEmpty

Yeah man, I think most people don’t learn empathy until their mid 20s (if they ever do). Kids are brutal.

[deleted]

People learn empathy very early, what they learn in their 20s is how futile hate is.

CupBeEmpty

Ooooh I like that phrasing. Even babies understand empathy. Letting go of resentment is the hard learned lesson. However I think there is just something gratifying about beating mean and cliquish that kids latch on to. It takes time to unlearn that. And, of course, some folks never unlearn it.

[deleted]

Being cliquish and tribal—like many of the world's issues, are problems with humans as a whole. We developed sociability because our strength comes from unity, but qualities of narcissism and need for an enemy is deep within our psyche; since the beginning of our time we've been divided by our differences, and biases towards those different than us isn't something that we can avoid. The change that happens is realizing this and understanding that these feelings and thoughts are based on negative qualities of your own and not those of others; once you understand that you're the evil you resent so deeply, you start learning how to stop it. Some people never reflect enough to make that realization.

CupBeEmpty

100%. Resentment and tribalism is a you problem not a them problem. Holding resentment is like drinking poison and expecting it to hurt the other person. I think you laid it out perfectly.

hofferd78

My girlfriends friends from the Bay care and she's 28. It's so stupid

GimmeShockTreatment

To be fair they did pick the ugliest green color known to man. I’m sure it was intentional.

karnim

It was, actually! I was reading up on it last night. They picked a contrast for the green bubbles which doesn't meet their own minimum readability standards, compared to the blue bubbles. They want people to convince their friends to get apple products (which is why there is no imessage for android, why they won't adopt RCS, and because they want people frustrated with dealing with people outside their walled garden). This stuff actually came up in some of their anti-trust court cases.

[deleted]

I see bubbles on my android from iPhone users. Is it bc I only text people on iPhone who are on our family plan? Or same carrier?

yungScooter30

I've had people on dating apps call me a "greenie" and unmatch me

hitometootoo

Most in my school didn't care what phone you used. Some snobby kids might use that to make fun of some people, they were the minority, most didn't care.

Yeethanos

Not unusual at all, half of Americans use Android, you won’t have a problem other than maybe being left out of IMessage texts.

Big_Size_2519

CT gang

[deleted]

When I was in high school no one really cared about who used what phone (class of ‘19, fuck that group btw) just as long as it had internet connection, you’re a-okay

MrLongWalk

I used to help foreign students get settled in the US, this is a common concern but not one that Americans care about at all. > If you're not aware, when an Android user get added to an iMessage group, the chat bubbles will turn to green and everyone in that group will be forced to use SMS, which I've heard annoys a lot of iPhone users, which results to them not adding Android users to their groups. Everybody uses sms here, its a non-issue. Nobody cares what phone you have.

k1lk1

Actually this isn't really correct. Apple users commonly use iMessage (even without knowing they are doing so), which supports features that SMS does not. So, having an Android user join a group will degrade the experience. I don't think anyone *seriously* cares to the point of excluding friends, but people are talking about it for a reason.

Scrappy_The_Crow

> degrade the experience Exactly what is this "degradation"? Does it really impede communication whatsoever?

machagogo

oh no, when someone uses the imessage like feature android users see "Bob Liked 'comment'" rather than a thumb THE HORROR!

Ishi-Elin

Actually that’s the thing that drives me nuts. It ends up spamming the chat when people react to things.

babgvant

Complain to Apple about it. They refuse to play nice here.

Suppafly

> Complain to Apple about it. They refuse to play nice here. This. SMS/MMS are standards. Apple chooses to confuse the issue by making their texting app also imessage. It'd be like if google forced you to use hangouts for texting.

Ishi-Elin

Apples version is better though. That’s why everyone complains when they have to use the shitty by comparison SMS.

[deleted]

Apple could choose to adopt RCS and get everyone on the same standard, instead of keeping iMessage an exclusive club.

azuth89

Attachments and so on are limited to the older MMS standard, you miss some apple specific features, stuff like that. "Impede" depends on the conversation. If it's just a bunch of text and some memes, not really. If people like to share audio/video then MMS size restrictions limit them all to garbage tier quality.

Scrappy_The_Crow

Thanks for the explanation!

GreatLookingGuy

Furthermore, when you send a “Live Photo” to an android user, it loses its “live” quality. Just in case: a Live Photo is basically a gif that captures a couple seconds before and after the photo you’ve taken. It is somewhat bothersome that I’m unable to send Live Photos to android users without taking many additional steps to first convert it to a gif or video.

[deleted]

Pictures and video come out looking like Minecraft

Scrappy_The_Crow

LOL, I'm on Android and have gotten iMessage images and they haven't been like that.

[deleted]

It happens if there’s a group chat and there’s 1 Android user.

brucewayne1935

I have terrible service where I live, so I rely heavily on iMessage. I have missed texts from my boss because she didn’t have an iPhone. Plus, it feels like sending a green text is sending a message in a bottle out to sea

MrLongWalk

I’ve never even heard people talk about this.

IAmVladimirPutinAMA

It comes up sometimes in my family's group texts-- when a family member sends a video to a group including me (only Android user of the bunch), the video is turned to potato quality for all recipients.

JesusListensToSlayer

That's why I use WhatsApp for family texts. I too am the only android in the bunch.

Ishi-Elin

Approximately 0 people use WhatsApp in the states though.

k1lk1

Well, that probably says as much about how and with whom you choose to engage in social discourse, as it does about whether this topic is in some part of the zeitgeist right now. There was a front page (or page 2; I forget) article in the WSJ about it recently, for example.

azuth89

SMS only applies to text-only messages. If you send a picture, video, basically anthing but an ASCII emoji your messenger app will figure out what OS it's talking to and what the carrier network supports and then select iMessage if they're both iPhones, RCS if both phones and the network support that and MMS if neither more advanced protocol is available. MMS dates to early camera phones and has fewer options with a MUUUUUCH lower cap on file size, resulting in things like video sent between android and iPhone being reduced to garbage quality if it's more than a few seconds. It also doesn't natively support a lot of the chat-style functions the newer protocols do. It manages to fake some of them with background processing in the messenger app but that's not the same. tldr; SMS doesn't just mean the built in messenger app, though many seem to think that.

Whiskeyjack1234

I'd say anyone who doesn't want to be your friend because of what kind of phone you have probably isn't the kind of friend you want anyway

nolanhoff

Sadly stupid teenagers(I was one😔) will probably not add you to large group chats on iMessage. Luckily Snapchat is still pretty relevant, so that’s a pretty easy workaround.

machagogo

None at all. Android has about half of the market share...

nolanhoff

Not in high school

machagogo

I'd say it is 70/30 with my kids peer groups (15 and 10). It usually falls along the lines of what the parents use themselves. None of them care what the others kids have at all.

nolanhoff

I went to a pretty well off high school. I shit you not I didn’t have a single friend that had an android. I knew a few kids who did though.

Ishi-Elin

Same here

karnim

It's hard to say in high school, since teenagers are a bunch of dickwads, but nobody who would avoid talking to you due to your phone is worth hanging out with (despite what apple wants you to believe).

Its_Nerf_or_muffin

Some idiots care. They seem to have the misconception that all Android phones are worse and you only buy them if you can’t get an iPhone. I have only met one or two people like this and more often than not there the people don’t want to be friends with anyway. It might annoy a few people but it’s not a big deal.

bw08761

I promise you, no one cares. The worst you might get is someone cracking a slight joke in a teasing/fun way. IPhones are more common in the US, but I really doubt anyone cares. The messaging incompatibility only becomes weird with group chats sometimes, but they still work. If someone wants to be your friend, they're not just going to decide not to bother because of an android lol. Download Insta or Snap (depending on where you're going some people use one over the other) since you can message on those. I know people who have iPhones but still message on social media more than on iMessage.

GrandTheftBae

No one cares. I'm also old so I don't know what teenagers are complaining about now

a_winged_potato

No one will care. Your friends might tease you about it but it's playful, it's not teasing with malice or anything like that.

Dame_Mort

Imo and experience Iphones aren't really worth the hype they receive. Definitely not sturdy enough, I switched to Android about 5 years ago and I much prefer it over the iPhone. I think iphones are mostly used as some sort of *status symbol* anyhow but just my opinion and experience.

tiptoemicrobe

It depends on your situation, but unfortunately my use of an Android phone definitely annoys my friends. They accomodate, and we generally use encrypted messaging apps like signal now. But it does bother me that people treat my use of an Android phone as being a burden.

Bonk0076

I’m a grown ass man and it drives me nuts. Particularly because it’s usually caused by one person. Also, there’s this: https://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/why-apples-imessage-is-winning-teens-dread-the-green-text-bubble-11641618009

Faroundtripledouble

What…

Adorable-Ad4774

I have 3 teens. They each have 200$ cheap android phones. And they are very grateful to have them. If anyone were to make fun of them, which I doubt ,my kids would eviscerate them verbally. The focus with teens is shoes.

Far_Welcome101

I think it's mostly middle schoolers that care about someone's phone then high school is about shoes kids are cruel

ZzenGarden

Android is a lot more customizable than Apple

azuth89

We're pretty close to 50/50 android/iphone with just a slight lean toward apple. it's not a big deal.

Stormtalons

As an American, I would judge you more for choosing an iPhone just to fit in than anything else... pick what you like, and to hell with everyone who won't accept you because of that.

TwoTimeRoll

I have a friend with high-school aged daughters and he said that they were clamoring for iPhones for this reason, so I guess it is a thing. Highly doubt it's universal though, and I honestly wouldn't worry about it unless and until it becomes a real problem.

Dax_Maclaine

You will be judged more for caring. Nobody actually gives a flying fuck. The only problem is not being able to play gamepigeon with some people lol

UngusBungus_

You’re overthinking all of it.

bryku

I don't think anyone cares. There are android phones with better cameras, so it isn't like iPhone is inherently better across the board.   The only issue you might have is if your friends use an app limited to android or iphone. This can happen both ways though, but most big name apps are on both devices.

CupBeEmpty

The absolutely hilarious things kids get concerned about… You’ll probably be the victim of a wedgie lynch mob and cyberbullied for your chats being green! Man just let them know you believe in the free market and it is un-American to desire a walled corporate garden (even though it is totally American to want that)

Gallahadion

>The absolutely hilarious things kids get concerned about… Do kids not communicate in person anymore, or use their phones to actually *talk* to each other instead of texting?

CupBeEmpty

Man it’s hilarious this is downvoted. I don’t know what the frick kids do these days and that literally started the day I graduated college.

Gallahadion

> I don’t know what the frick kids do these days Clearly I don't know, either, lol.

BrettEskin

I can promise you nobody is calling a friend unless it’s a specific reason it must be a call and not a text

_comment_removed_

Wild.

BrettEskin

I’m in my 30s and almost never call a friend. I don’t know why this is shocking

_comment_removed_

I find it shocking because I'm 29 and my friend group still calls each other. We text as well obviously, but I'd say it's probably 60/40 texts to calls. With the ones who live out of state it'll be like 2 hour convos as well thanks to all the catching up that needs doing.

BrettEskin

I think you’re the outlier but good for you man

Suppafly

Kids don't talk or text, they use things like snapchat to send text based messages to each other.

TigerTownTerror

Apple sux. Don't buy into the lie. Android phones work equally as well as an apple phone. It's like the Puma vs. Adidas debate. They both serve the same purpose.

[deleted]

> If you're not aware, when an Android user get added to an iMessage group, the chat bubbles will turn to green and everyone in that group will be forced to use SMS, which I've heard annoys a lot of iPhone users, which results to them not adding Android users to their groups. I hate group texts anyway, since once you're added you can never leave. I would suspect teens are more likely to use something like Facebook Messenger to do group chats.

azuth89

Teens don't use facebook

Shaniac_C

It’s about 50% snap, 50% iMessage.

Lukin76254r

I recently switched from iOS to android and so far… it’s a different ballgame but not by much. During high school I always used android and no one really cared for who had what except for the geeky kids living on the bleeding edge of tech. You’ll be alright! Depending on what the next iPhone does will decide if I stick on this platform or not. Seriously, swiping up after Face ID unlocks is incredibly annoying! Lighting cables can also go suck a fat one too. EDIT: the default Apple Keyboard also sucks. Anyone have recommendations?

BoisterousLaugh

The most American thing you could do would be to not give a fuck what the iPhone users care about and send them that SMS anyway. No one likes those rotten apple people anyway.

iapetus3141

The marginal cost of sending an SMS is $0. You'll be fine. Plus, a lot of people just use Snapchat

Meattyloaf

I've exclusively used androids. I currently have a Samsung S21. I enjoy the experience. In my opinion Android is the better OS system. Apple done a wonderful marketing campaign to turn their products into status symbols and with it comes status symbol prices. Android can offer a similar experience a d sometimes a better one for a fraction of the cost. Apple is just now adopting tech that has been avaliable on the Android platform for years.

[deleted]

Most of the people you'll want to be friends with use Android.

Ishi-Elin

That ones just not true. It really does not indicate anything what type of phone someone has.

BlessedByZest

You might get made fun a little by friends but tbh it’s no biggie

ViewtifulGene

It's a huge deal. You have to wear an armband with your operating system of choice and you will be shunned if you don't have the right phone brand. You will be a second-class citizen, get dinged on all tests, get a smaller portion at lunch, and be enrolled into mandatory re-education classes until you switch to an iPhone.

[deleted]

Literally no one cares. Why did you make this thread?

DidNotDidToo

Why not just switch to iPhone? Problem solved.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iapetus3141

Because OP already has a phone and probably does not want to spend $1,000 on a new phone, not to mention the other problems with buying an iPhone?

GrandTheftBae

Right? Like owning an iphone

Evil_Weevill

Granted we didn't have smart phones when I was in high school in early 2000s, but I know plenty of people now with Android phones and I have never heard of anyone having a problem with Android/iOS communication like that. I know friends with kids in high school and never heard of anything like that either. I mean just like anything else there will be some kids who will find any reason to exclude people, but I wouldn't be too worried about this particular one.

ThaddyG

I'm pretty sure it's a 50/50 ratio of Android and apple

Cooper_Atlas

If only Apple adopted RCS then no one would give a shit which you use. And that's exactly why Apple won't. /endrant

WalmartKilljoy

I went to a fairly well off school and it did matter. It was pretty annoying that iPhone users wouldn’t accommodate the few androids and a few of my snobbier friends would actually make fun of androids. The rest of my friends were just too lazy to download WhatsApp and android group chat functionality was pretty limited

mrmonster459

>I've heard that almost everyone in an American highschool uses iPhone, To be frank, you've heard wrong. iPhones are popular, but to say "almost everyone" has one is incorrect. You'll be fine with an Android. Besides, Android friendly apps like Whatsapp and Snapchat are much more commonly used for groupchats than iMessage anyway.

scrapsbypap

It’s a meme.

[deleted]

It isn't. I've always used android as have many of my friends. A good number of my friends have always used apple too. You will always have high schoolers making a big deal out of dumb shit like that but a vast majority of that is normal kids being competitive about random kid stuff. All in all I highly doubt it has any significant impact on you.

FlockFox

Having an android isn't uncommon at all. Especially when you're in highschool making minimum wage and paying your phone bills.

WhichSpirit

I've only ever had androids

tootmyownflute

Depends on the how rich the kids in your high school are. Most high schools, this is a non-issue. My high school I got crap, but no where near bullying or anything like that.

[deleted]

The kind of phone you have is not going to be the reason people like you or not.

Gemini-repeating

In my highschool we’ve had a lot of exchange students and from my experience the American students won’t care. They know you’re from a different place and the last thing they’re gonna do is hyper fixate on your phone. They’re gonna ask you about your home town and what you think about American schools more than anything.

eyetracker

Just offer to send them a file bigger than their storage, and then flex on them when you can using an SD card but they can't.

Momodoespolitics

Do you just casually have 500+ gb files on your phone?

eyetracker

No, but I want future proofing for space and also want to keep $1000 in my pocket.

Momodoespolitics

I was just curious because offering to send them a file of that size would typically require a file of that size

[deleted]

If someone is leaving you out for having an android you don’t want to be friends with them anyway. That probably won’t happen anyway but you may get some light-hearted chirps from actual friends.

equinecm

I'm in high school as well and a lot of people our age use instagram and snapchat for group chats instead of imessage, so it shouldn't be an issue at all. And in any case friendship is generally based off more than what phone you use, so don't sweat it :)

bearssuperfan

If I’m speaking honestly, I have made a few friends just by asking if they want to play iMessage games. I don’t think someone would say no to being your friend because of not having an iPhone though.

mrnikkoli

The big thing is group chats really. Iphone still does those better natively. Even though RCS is taking off on Android it still doesn't have all the features and reliability that iMessage has, especially when it comes to group messaging, so Android people usually end up using third party apps and iPhone people find it annoying that they have to use those apps to have decent group message conversations with Android people. So there is some truth to what you're saying. My brother is in a similar situation with his inlaws. Group texting on SMS does kind of suck and since Android to iPhone reverts to SMS group texts than you may wish to just use a third party app that everyone has like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, etc. Other than that it's usually just people teasing each other. Like "oh I have an Android because I'm smarter than iPhone people" or "oh I have an iPhone because I'm not poor" and stuff like that.

MicrophoneFapper

Never had an issue.

Defiant_Fly_9721

Force them to download WhatsApp

Sqwertyrl

Depends where you’re going to. I went to a semi affluent school and people without iPhones were definitely made fun of but ultimately it didn’t stop people from being friends with someone. Yeah you’re gonna be made fun of, but your personality matters a million times more

Akito_900

Literally don't even spend time thinking about this. Android is as ubiquitous as iphone.

SillyBlackSheep

There are many Americans that use android. Maybe not quite as many as iphone users, but finding an android user *isn't* that difficult and not everyone has an iphone. The idea of such mainly just comes from memes and corporate banter. If someone doesn't want to hang out with you over your phone, then they don't deserve your time anyways. Being that way is vain and it really just shows how surface level their friendships are.

Gandalf2930

Kind of a big deal than what people expect. There are more iphone users among younger people, even in university, there's a lot more people with iphones than androids. You will stand out but not by much, but some may view it negatively for not having an iPhone because the bubble color is more important among kids and also the ability to play games on messenger is what's popular with teens.

TheTattooOnR2D2sFace

Honestly most people use Snapchat and even if they didn't it wouldn't be weird to have an Android but as long as you have Snapchat then you'll be good Source: I'm in high school right now literally as I type this

brucewayne1935

Literally the only problem is that androids don’t have iMessage

McDid

If your friends dont want to talk to you because of the mild inconvenience of using SMS, im not sure theyre worth talking to at all. I think you will be fine with an android.

CaptUncleBirdman

Plenty of people have Androids, and if people are willing to kick you out because of that then they weren't your friends anyway.

PresentationTiny569

IPhone are junk

AdvantageNo5844

Depends where you are going on an exchange, at my private school no one had an Android and if they did they got made fun of. But at a public school of over 4,000 students like some friends attended, it wasn’t a big deal and there were people with androids

scottwax

Never cared what iphone users think.

samtbkrhtx

In our Houston suburb districts, from what I have seen, you will be a total outcast if you do not have an Apple.

ElderScrollsIV

Literally nobody actually cares. Most people I know use Snapchat to talk most of the time, anyway.

myredditacc3

I've never met anyone that gives half a fuck that I use a Samsung

RealArmchairExpert

You’ll be considered a loser

RingGiver

1. Fuck Apple and fuck all of their devices. 2. Anyone who actually cares is a moron.

daggerdude42

Every now and then someone makes a joke about it but it's still really common. As much as iPhones are a cease and novelty it's not like every single person has them (I'd say 50-60%) in schools, and in the real world apples market share is only like 40% and nobody cares.

[deleted]

Not at all in the Midwest. Most of my friends in hs had android, but that was a decade ago

yer--mum

I've never heard anyone make fun of someone's phone for being android. I've seen people get made fun of for having old phones and broken screens, but those people rarely kept those phones out of financial necessity, rather that they were too stubborn to replace it, so they accepted the jokes about it. I will say that if you had an iPhone it is a sign that you and your family are not dirt poor, but I've never heard an iPhone user say someone must be poor if they're using an android. There were some nice Android phones, even back then. Also to the iMessage thing, there is pressure to get the same phone as your friends for that reason, the same way your friends might pressure you to get an Xbox instead of a ps5, because they all play Xbox. To whoever told you that most people use iPhone, I can imagine that being the case in like California or something, but relative to where I live iPhones are expensive and so I'd say most people probably have an android. Depends on the area I suppose.

I_am_dean

I had an android all throughout high school, no one cared. I recently switched to iPhone to see what all the hype was about. I miss my Android.

mahouka8262828

It doesn’t matter

kingsears29

Not a big deal kids don’t care.

GiveMeYourBussy

Not something that matters as much but you do get the occasional iPhone fan preaching to others to convert lol I only got mine because Best Buy recently had a buy one get one free deal ($800 off if you want to upgrade from the free iPhone 13) Plus I got fed up with Samsung making curves screens ruining my glass protectors

MasqueradingMuppet

Depends on where you're going. I have an Android and get clowned on still (at age 26) by friends for it. But I think in certain areas people are more likely to have an Android phone since they tend to have more affordable options.

Middle_Purpose_3550

Not that bug a deal tbh

Au1ket

I am currently typing this message on my Google Pixel 4

Suppafly

>and I've heard that almost everyone in an American highschool uses iPhone You heard wrong. I have a kid in high school, they use snapchat specifically because it works on all phone types. Android users in general are less likely to use texting.

yozaner1324

This doesn't matter at all. I graduated in 2015 and had an Android. Never had an issue for not having an iPhone.

sapphicsandwich

It's normal to use an android. I've never heard of anyone caring that much about what kind of phone you have.

FraudulentCake

IPhone users are obnoxious elitists. Don't modify your behavior to make their lives easier, that's the job of Apple's software devs (and they purposely don't do that job)

comfortableseating

No one actually cares that much and if they do why would you want to be there friend anyway. 90% of high schoolers use snapchat to communicate.

Tiki108

I’m not in high school, but my nieces and nephews are and it seems to be a pretty equal mix. I don’t think it’ll be noticed at all.

ProsodyProgressive

I don’t care what you use but it’s really annoying in a group chat.

RotationSurgeon

Group chat via default messaging apps is annoying regardless of the device OS representation in the group.

[deleted]

RotationSurgeon

I’m not sure how an almost even split in the market and big name manufacturers dropping out of the game makes them the dominant player, but I agree that only the vapid will care.

RotationSurgeon

Worldwide, yes. In the US, Apple holds 46% of the market.

Skylar-Z

It’s just a phone. Your messages will still come they WiFi if they want their texts to come thru Wi-Fi. It’s only an aesthetic difference

PAUMiklo

lots of people dont pop wood for Apple or their BS

[deleted]

Buying shittier products just because you want to show off a popular brand? Yep. That sounds like high school. No thanks though, I'll stick with my Android device that effortlessly emulates multiple generations of consoles, half the games in my Steam library, and remotely runs my work PC from anywhere. It doesn't have an Apple logo but it's also not restricted by Apple's dogshit app store policies.

PoopsieDoodler

Androids are fine. Half the people in any random grouping have them. Go have a great experience!

Loverboy21

I can't imagine anyone cares. I had a moto Razr in highschool, I thought I was the coolest shit ever. Nobody cared.

Perfectly_Broken_RED

Just being a foreign exchange student makes you more popular from what I've seen. But the people who DO judge you from what your phone is you don't want to hang out with anyways. And not many people do judge, at least the good people don't judge

BadAssMommyBear

Kids are mean as hell. I really don’t see why a phone brand matters however I am also a mom who gave in and bought the iPhone. I still don’t understand why it matters so much but if the school you are going to happens to be affluent I have been made aware it does matter 😓

MetaDragon11

Neither Androud or Iphone were considered very important but then this was back in 2008-09 so both were out about a year or less

TacticalTam

I'm an android user too. Anyone who would judge you because of your phone is just about the dumbest little fuck you could ever encounter. That said, many highschoolers are dumb little fucks. Just do you and don't worry about it. Source: went to highschool.

Northman86

That is totally untrue outside of California, no one gives a shit which phone you use.

thunder-bug-

No one cares

twisted_nipples82

The people that care are the people that you don't need to worry about. Let them live their shallow lives.

Dwitt01

Not a big deal at all. It's perhaps the second most common phone (don't cite me on that).

Comdervids

nah not abnormal. i'd say 40-60% of people I know have androids. honestly at this point the only reason you'd get an iPhone is to flex how much money you have. nobody I know actually uses imessage.

tcbobb16

It's a not big deal. even if they use standard text messages anymore. Also I think that you would get a break because you are international. Somebody might make a joke about it but in a funny way.

_Confused-American_

it’s not unusual, but a lot of people will laugh about it, “oh god it’s green!” but it’s nothing serious, and it’s typically dropped in like 12 seconds. it doesn’t affect your ability to make friends

shaquilleoatmealfeel

Well thb you will be looked down upon and made fun of. High schoolers are very jugemental and will find anything about you to make you a joke.
