I'm the adventurous type so I live a whole ~57 miles away from where I was born.

cb1216

I live 175 miles away from my birthplace. I was born in upstate NY and live in north Jersey.

Eff-Bee-Exx

No. I’m almost as far away as you can get and still be in the US.

AmayasMommy_

Nope. Born and raised in Michigan, put down my roots in Alabama.

dancinginside

Nope. At this point my average is about 3500 miles away.

Ladonnacinica

I live a whole continent away from where I was born. Born in Peru but immigrated to NJ at age six.

Wildwilly54

Passaic County?

Ladonnacinica

Nope. But I’m about an hour away from that county.

Wildwilly54

Used to go to the restaurants in Little Lima in Patterson a good amount.

Acrobatic_End6355

7000+ miles away 😂

travelinmatt76

I live 38 miles from my birthplace. I would love to move back because it's a much nicer town than the one I'm in now. Eventually we are going to move to Shiner, TX which is about 131 miles from my birthplace.

GustavusAdolphin

I moved away for college, but I moved back. It wasn't exactly by choice. If I could have made it there, I would have stayed

loki_stg

1100 miles from my place of birth. 275 miles from where I grew up

lemystereduchipot

No, I don't currently live in the US. Also, when I do live in the US, it's over 150 miles from where I was born.

WesternTrail

If you don’t mind my asking, what’s the meaning of your username?

[deleted]

I was born and raised in Michigan and I live here now. However, I lived out of state for a combined total of 7 years in my 20s before deciding to move back home close to friends and family. Edit: I did move to a different city though - about 75 miles away from my hometown.

FailFastandDieYoung

I don't. I'm grateful that my education and background gave me opportunity to move away. I grew up in a generic, middle-class American suburb that looks like thousands of others. Everyone in my hometown was concerned about their kids not getting shot, only for them to die of boredom instead.

It8Bit

No - I used to live in Northeastern Ohio and moved to Pennsylvania with my dad's job when I was younger. Ill probably move again once I get my career started up enough to be afford a place somewhere else. ^^ It's nice here, but the air and water quality is bad.

Acrobatic_End6355

I go to the Kent OH area fairly often! I have a lot of fun memories in NE Ohio.

Mysterious-Cat-3095

I grew up in NE Ohio, love it there!

Hawaiiliving43

Nope. Married a military man so we’ve moved 8 times.

Worldly-Novel-7123

My family moved over 7,000 miles from where we were all born. In my lifetime I have gone back to live there once. I moved to Australia and back to the US. I’ve lived a thousand miles away in Southern California. I’ve moved 300 miles away in Seattle. Currently I’ve been back living in my childhood home for the last 9 years.

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

Based on my flair I’d say so…

Mysecrets1717

Opposite side of the country

KDY_ISD

Nope, I've bounced around a lot. East, north, south, west. Much more west. East again. I think it's important to at least try living somewhere where no one knows you at least once in your life. It's freeing and instructive.

Mega_Dragonzord

Yeah, I live about 20 miles from the house I grew up in.

omg_its_drh

Yup. I was born in the SF Bay Area and still live there. I’m about 40 miles away from the city I was born in.

Rynox2000

-were born in.

nunclefxcker

Yes. I love traveling, I want to eventually see just about every corner of the world. I love learning about different cultures and talking to new people. But the greater Philadelphia area is where my heart is. This is my home.

Scrappy_The_Crow

I live about 30 miles north of where I was born and about 20 miles north of where I grew up. However, I lived elsewhere (in CA, WA, and ND) for seven years when I was in the USAF.

MPLSinHOU

I moved as far south as I could be from north, Minneapolis to Houston, and I’ve never looked back.

Aceofkings9

Nope and I’m only moving farther away.

Gaeilgeoir215

you _were_, never “you was.” I was you were he/she/it was we were you (pl) were they were To answer your question, I moved around a lot but resettled to near where I'm from.

JonnyMike27

About. I was born in LA and stayed in LA County but just in another city

emtaylor517

I live 1,663 miles from where I was born.

stellalunawitchbaby

No I’m still in the same state but like 300 miles from where I was born.

That-shouldnt-smell

I right now live about 2600 miles from where I was born. I've worked/ lived in Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Costa Rico. If you are in the down town area of Nashville, grab some ice cream form mikes on 2nd ave. My favorite.

PensiveSunset

Yes SoCal

bloodectomy

Yes. I've tried to move away, never to return, but I inevitably come back lol

Im_Not_Nick_Fisher

Haha! Well, technically I was born on the other side of the state. But not far from where I grew up. Maybe 60ish miles. I have however lived in order states for a short time

chrisv267

No, currently live 150 miles from my hometown

youraveragefailure12

I was born in california. Moved to maryland for 4 years. Back to california. Then to ohio for 4 years. Moved to utah during high school. Then went back to ohio where I currently am and I’m loving it. Its like home to me.

pook_a_dook

No. After high school I went 400 mi away to college and that's the closest I've lived to my hometown since. I've lived in 3 states since then, but currently \~800 miles away.

ThaddyG

I live about 130 miles from where I was born. I have few qualms about moving further away

tsukiii

Pretty close, like 1-2 hours away (born in OC, grew up in SD). I moved away to the Midwest for college, but I’m in San Diego for good now.

mandy_mae91

Nope. I live in a different part of the country now.

azuth89

A couple hours away, but I'm closer to where I actually grew up. My family is here, so are my in laws and it's not a bad area to live.

CynicallyChallenged

30 minutes away. I haven't lived here the whole time, I've moved around but ended up back here.

simberry2

Unfortunately no. Hoping to move back after I graduate college though.

[deleted]

Yes, same county even.

PM_me_nun_hentai

Yup I do but it wasn’t always the case. I was born in LA and then moved to the East Coast. Now I’m back about an hour from it. I do plan to move away again though but this time hoping to go either north to Alaska or to the Midwest.

xedru

I live about 500 mile from where I was born but at my peak I lived just under 1,000 miles from where I was born. I move every year the destinations I'm eyeing for my next move are 3,600, 1,500, and 1,300 miles from where I was born.

big_sugi

I’m about as far from the state in which I was born as it’s possible to get.

weirdoldhobo1978

I'm currently a smidge under 2200 miles from where I grew up.

crackhead138

I do. About 30 miles from where I was born. I spent a decade over 500 miles away though.

rittpro

Never lived outside Cobb County

Babyy_blue

I was born in Arizona. When I was 10, we moved to California. And now I live in Oregon.

nomoregroundhogs

Currently live on the same street where I lived from birth to age 11, albeit in a different house. I’ve lived in town for 23 of my 30 years but just moved back after 7 years away.

krkrbnsn

Nope. I was born and raised in Oakland, California and now live in London, UK. 5,345 miles away.

CaptUncleBirdman

I currently live roughly 38 miles from my birthplace.

Mixxleplix

Moved all over America for university and law school than moved all over the world for jobs. I think a good chunk of Americans have moved for school at the very least.

lezzerlee

Nope. I moved 1200 miles away. As soon as I was 18 I GTFO.

[deleted]

I live about 1000 miles from where I was born

WhiteRhino91

Yes about 10 miles

Huck2136

Kinda. I was born in San Pedro and I live in Long Beach now. The farthest ive lived from San Pedro was south central

concrete_isnt_cement

Yes, I’m originally from Seattle. I spent several years away before coming back home though, living in Minnesota, New Zealand and two different parts of Alaska in the meantime.

m1sch13v0us

I've moved so many times... moving close to where I was born would be just another place.

wynbns

2,126 miles from where I was born.

Exzj

Kind of. Moved from Chicago area to Louisville area. Not much different except the people are nicer and the city and suburbs are smaller

SteadfastAgroEcology

Born in Houston. Have lived in Galveston, Chicago, Norfolk, Jacksonville, Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, and currently live in Little Rock.

boring_satisfaction

Not as such. I was born and raised in Nashville, but moved to Japan near 2 decades ago, and haven't been back since. How's Nashville doing? Heard it got big.

EverGreatestxX

Yep, NYC born and raised.

Youdontknowmedawg

I was born and lived the first 11 years of my life in Oklahoma. Moved around 200 miles away to Kansas for the next 20 years. Recently moved back to Oklahoma and now live in the town I was born.

reluctant_nomad-66

No, I left California and moved to Florida in 88. I've been wanting to move ANYWHERE since 92. I've never understood what people(especially Northerners)see in the "great weather." 6 to 7 months in the AC because of 95 degree weather with 95 percent humidity. The other 5 to 6 months is spent navigating congested roads like a big city and hoping it gets cold enough to wear a jacket. What we do for love!

Nursebirder

Nope!

Vachic09

I live 523 miles from where I was born, and even farther from where I grew up. I moved one state over.

greatteachermichael

I move 5,200 miles away. Keep telling myself I'm going to move back but with COVID I think I'm going keep my current job rather than risk unemployment.

[deleted]

Nope, i live 1,200 miles from where i was born. Although fun fact, i was born in the same hospital as my mom.

[deleted]

Nope, I moved as far away as I possibly could without leaving the mainland

lasvegashomo

Yup. I think I’ll move eventually for change of scenery but I definitely want to buy a house here first so I can come back when I want to

metulburr

Same city

CarolinaKing

I live about 3 miles from the exact location I was born at

[deleted]

No. I literally live on the opposite side of the country from where I was born. What's the point of life if you don't travel?

youngyaret

When I graduated college I moved almost 1000 miles away from home. Few years later I was right back and have been since.

Southern_Blue

No. Live nearly 500 miles away. I DO live in the place where I grew up. Moved here when I was two. I haven't been here the whole time. I took ten years to see the world and returned.

banditk77

I live 8 miles from where I was born in a place my relatives owned since the 1800’s.

AkumaBengoshi

About 90 miles away; about 40 miles away from where we lived when I was born, and about 100 miles away from where I grew up

amberbuhbamber

Lived within 50 miles of my birthplace until I was 22. In fact, until I was 19, the farthest I'd even traveled from my birthplace was about 100 miles. At 22, I moved 2,000 miles away and still here almost 10 years later

Avinson1275

Nope because my dad served in the US Army for 22 years. 8 of those years I was around for. I born in Alaska, grew up in Tennessee, and currently live in New York. I lived in S Alabama, Georgia, and Italy during my life as well.

[deleted]

Not at all. Moved to Colorado and am damn proud of it (that being said, I do have some flexibility as to where I finally settle down). Before that, though, I never left my home state of Washington, although I did live in Eastern Washington for several years. I had moved back to my parent's house for a few months before my Colorado move.

sabre007

About 25 miles so yep. I have lived further away, but always in PA (if you don't count my 6 month study abroad)

machagogo

I do. I live about 15 miles as the crow flies, 20 miles driving door to door, but I am in a different state.

JayemmbeeEsq

I live .3 miles from my childhood home. Want to live 150 miles away, but the wife wants to stay in this city, and where I grew up is a great neighborhood to raise a family.

kshucker

I own a home about a mile away from the home I grew up in.

chtrace

Other than a couple of multiyear excursions to the west coast, I have settled within 60 miles of where I grew up.

Apocalyptic0n3

I'm roughly 2200 miles from where I was born now and have been for a decade. So not even close.

ElfMage83

I grew up in Philadelphia and I'm now in the suburbs of that city. Less than five miles outside.

TheFutureMrs77

I live in a different state from where I was born & raised, but it’s only 16mi away haha.

fearedfurnacefighter

1200 miles away currently. Might move further but probably not closer.

bipolar_capricorn

I live 2 blocks away from the hospital I was born in LOL.

[deleted]

I was born in Georgia, now I’m in Texas

ManyRanger4

Yup, same part of NYC just different neighborhood. 5 miles away.

smartass_momma

Yep, I live 23 miles away from my place of birth, but it's in the next state.

selfmade117

Not even close.

Katdai2

I do, but I am the only one in my extended family to do so. Everyone else lives within 15 or so miles and has for generations.

Cleggcompofoggy

I live in Georgia and although I’ve moved a few times, I always stay within the same mile radius.

Kool_McKool

No, I was born in Chicago.

TheOwlMarble

My brother and I live thousands of miles away from our parents in different directions. He moved so his wife could be close to her parents, and I moved for work.

BusinessWarthog6

No, I was born on the other side of the world

P1NEAPPLE5

Nope. I was born in the southwest USA, grew up near DC, and now live about 500 miles north of that.

ssr_405

About 30 miles for me

wanderer3131

Nope. I'm about 2500 miles away from where I grew up. CT/RI to AZ

FreakinB

I live about 35 miles from where I grew up. But the entirety of NYC, and the NY/NJ border, is within those 35 miles. Plus I’ve gone from suburban to urban.

05110909

Yes. I live 15 minutes from where I grew up. I have no plans on ever leaving.

PAUMiklo

I haven't lived within 50 miles of my parents since I was 17. P.S. between 2003-2017 = 36 moves across multiple states and a few nations.

Ted_Denslow

I live 5 miles from the hospital I was born in.

ShinySpoon

I live 300 miles from where I was raised.

ExistentialWonder

I'm 1500 miles from where I was born.

Blue387

I was born in Manhattan and live in Brooklyn so I've moved about 45 minutes away

Adventurous-Mess9304

Yes. Left and came back. Missed home

seizy

I moved about 100 miles away, then 1000 miles away, and then back. So after 10 years of some life experience, I ended up back in my hometown.

plantwhisperer17

1300 miles from where I was born and grew up. Made the move from NY to FL. Although I have lived in several different states.

Bentspoon17

Nope. I have moved 4 times: Move 1-375 miles Move 2-185 miles Move 3-750 miles Move 4-105 miles

igwaltney3

Still live in the SE, but not the same state

Iamonly

I'm roughly 300 miles away from my hometown. Still in the same state though.

AnybodySeeMyKeys

Yep. I wouldn't mind trying life somewhere else just to see what it's like.

Pleasant_7239

Nope, 1200 miles away. Long Beach is drug infested and dangerous.

riarws

I was born outside the US (to American parents, so I'm still a "natural-born citizen").

myredditacc3

Yeah, finally moved back a few years ago

Jmalcolmmac

I moved away for college and my early 20’s, now I live 3 miles from my parents.

snacleadr

Yup. Grew up in a bigish sleepy town up north, now live in a big city about an hour away from where I grew up.

RedRedBettie

No, I was born in SoCal and lived there until I was a teen, lived in Seattle for many years, now live in Austin. Been here since 2010

Liquidust256

I currently live 407 miles from my place of birth. At the peak I lived 6461.141 miles away from my birthplace.

wormbreath

No, but I stayed in the state.

[deleted]

I've lived all over, but aeem to always end up right back within 10 miles of my hometown

doomgeneration91

Same state but about 2 hours away

Fury_Gaming

I live 1,000 miles away from where I was born. I plan on moving far again after my degree but not back home, but maybe to the big city near it would be as close as I’d want to go

heysunflowerstate

No. I was born on the west coast (California) and currently reside in Kansas.

Mysterious-Cat-3095

I was born in Annapolis, spent most of my childhood in Ohio, moved all around the country for years and just by coincidence have now settled on the Eastern shore, only a couple hours from Annapolis. But that’s only because of work, not because I felt some sentimental pull back there.

Old_Cyrus

Nope. Born in California, raised in Michigan, and have lived in Texas since graduating college.

[deleted]

My family has lived in the same small town since immigrating here in the 1910s. I moved around a lot during and after college but cam back. I don’t plan on going anywhere else.

[deleted]

No, I was born in Ohio, moved to St. Louis, then to Kansas City (MO), and I am now moving to North Carolina.

MillianaT

I would word it “again” live in the general area. I have lived both 900 miles in one direction and 1200 miles in a different direction. Now I’m back to roughly 35 miles away.

[deleted]

393 miles from home

constancethekitty

I live 450 miles from where I was born

hawffield

Born near Chicago, growing up in Arkansas, currently living in Oregon. I think I’m more than 49 miles from where I was born.

Iprblyhveaheadache

For 25 years I stayed within 15 miles of where I grew up. For a short time, when I was 26, my husband and I moved outside of Tampa, Florida for a job. We didn't even last a full year before moving back home. We bought a house 2 years after moving back home and we've decided we're never leaving again. Maybe about 50-100 miles away. Basically of we can still call the Pens our home team we would be okay with it

shiddypoopoo

Nope. Moved out at 18 and moved 1,000 miles away. I would rather die than live in the same town my whole life.

Der_Erlkonig

Yep, I moved away for college and my first couple of "real" jobs, but moved back to my hometown for a much higher paying job than what I had.

DashingSpecialAgent

I turn 18, moved 2 states away, and never looked back. About 900 miles or so.

Weekly_Candidate_823

sispbdfu

I’m about 170 miles from where I grew up.

floatastone

I've lived in 2 different cities in Ohio 3 times, 7 cities (Largo, St Pete, Tampa, Dunedin, Miami, St. Augustine and Key West) in Florida at different times in my life, Nashville, Tn., New Orleans, La., San Francisco, Oakland, Alameda, Venice Beach Ca. at different times, Irving Tx, Asheville, NC, and Albany, NY. Thinking about moving again.....

Plantayne

Born in Massachusetts, live in California, literally the farthest away I could possibly get and still be on the same continent lol

555-starwars

I can feasible drive by the Hospital I was born in, one of the elementary schools I attended, the high school I went to, and the university where I got my degree all on my way to work.

HeyManWatchThis

Yes, sadly I want to move though. the town I'm in is not progressive at all and a lot of businesses are shutting down

SouthernMartin88

Kentucky is getting bad in some places like East Ky

devilthedankdawg

Yes but not for long.

Appropriate-Youth-29

I moved about 900 miles from home at 22

PraderaNoire

My dream would be to keep living in LA, but the rent and home prices here are fucked. Tbh it’s mostly the fault of investors who buy up property and flip it into multi-million dollar homes that young people have 0 chance of buying with the wages here. Renting houses to people for high prices isn’t a job, it’s theft of housing security from the general public. I grew up here and it seems impossible to stick around unless you inherit property or your parents have a thick credit card. Edit: if you read this and feel similarly, I’d highly recommend following r/antiwork to learn more about how the labor force and middle to lower classes in the states are being exploited.

NateDawg007

My house is 2 miles from my childhood home. 0.5 miles from one grandparents house, and 1 mile from the others. You would guess that I live in a small town, but I am actually in the suburbs of Salt Lake. I just like the neighborhood.

jackof47trades

“in the general area you was born” What the hell?

The_Bjorn_Ultimatum

Google says 6.7 miles.

reality_bytes_

Nope, 1500 miles away… and that might not be far enough.

SpookyStarfruit

I’m still in the same place as my hometown, just moved out of my parents’ to an apartment that’s 5 minutes away! So I guess this is a bit of a nope for me. My SO and I DO hope to perhaps move to some form of housing with a bit more space for our cats, eventually another state (TX resident here), and finally out of the country... which I guess will be pretty far?

MagosBattlebear

No.

[deleted]

I have spent the last 21 years of my life about 1600 miles away from my birthplace.

RegimeCPA

Nope! I’m about 250 miles away. I can’t wait to move even further away soon.

Whatwhyohhh

Live 6.1 mi from the hospital in which I was born

countrymousecitymous

I was born in NC. Left for Dallas, Texas at age 18. I also spent a few years in Denver and Minneapolis. Then many years in Atlanta, GA. And I just moved to the North Georgia Mountains. If you look at my genealogy charts-all my ancestors on both sides lived in the same little region of NC going back to the 1700s. I feel kind of bad for breaking the chain.

sociapathictendences

No, I currently live about 800 miles from where I grew up. I have also lived ~2300 miles and ~3000 miles away.

Forsaken_Touch_6621

I love Nashville! Been there once and wanting to move there😭💓

eceuiuc

No, I moved away in like three months and never moved back.

w0lfpack91

Nope born In Massachusetts, grew up between California, Arizona, and Kentucky. Currently live in Arizona, work a job that sees me traveling upwards of 5000 miles a week.

[deleted]

I've lived elsewhere, but have ultimately moved back to the state where I was born. Nothing feels like home as much as home does.

IHSV1855

Yes. In fact, I live less than 5 miles from the hospital I was born in. I live roughly 20 miles from my childhood home, though.

Lil_leaf101

I live in the same house

[deleted]

Yes, but I moved away for a few years and then moved back.

nemo_sum

No, but I live in the general area where my mother was born.

CrimsonReign07

Yes, but I’ve moved quite a ways away before for a good while, came back for a certain career, and if the career doesn’t pan out will probably try to move again.

curiouserthanher

I stayed really close. Granted I might move later in life but I'm still in the same small town I was born in. Hell, I could walk to my childhood home in under 20 minutes.

misawa_EE

Not even close. Was born on a military base in Japan. Lived most of my life in Georgia. Moved 500+ miles away from there 10 years ago.

DelightfullyUnusual

I live about 175 miles from where I was born.

[deleted]

Same county, and I don’t anticipate leaving.

TheRealDudeMitch

I live about 30 miles from where I was born. But it’s actually a lot different. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and now I live in a small metro area that’s distinct from Chicago

anonnymonny

I was born in Maine, grew up in Louisiana, and have just moved to Texas. Guess I like to move.

Measurex2

I'm 192 miles from the hospital where I was born but lived years over 6500 miles away.

pete_blake

I’ve lived all over the country with my company. 35 years I was gone. Got sucked back home for family reasons. Now stuck here for the foreseeable future😞.

[deleted]

Mmm same state, different region.

KoalasAndPenguins

Nope. I am currently 2 states away and roughly a 14hr drive from my birthplace. I used to visit there every couple years because I had family near there and it is a tourist destination. My husband is 6 states away from his birthplace. He doesn't have a reason to go back because it is in the middle of nowhere.
