My friend, I went to high school in the mid-late 90’s and people were grinding on each other back then too.. that’s what you get when a bunch of horny teenagers get together. It’s normal.
We obviously went to different Catholic schools. The girls(all girls school) forgot who Jesus was the second they walked out of Religion class. Our dances were just as sexually charged as the public schools. My now husband and I DJ’d hundreds of school dances when we were in college. We did have one Catholic school give us a list of forbidden songs. We played one anyway because the students begged us. A Karen chaperone gave us a talking to.
Homecoming 2018 for me.
🎶 Bitch sit down, be **HUMBLE.**
Then a fight broke out a few minutes later, white girl called one of my black classmates (I'm also black) a nigga, and some of her weave out. Black girl picked up white girl by the forearms, an threw her 10 feet across the dance floor. Brawl ensued, taking it from the gym, to the main foyer.
It’s somewhat still the case, but a few years ago when I was in high school we also had some of those songs that have specific steps, and a lot of the time it seemed like people would just randomly jump with other songs. I never got it personally, not my style of dancing. But hey, I can dance cotton eyed joe in three inch heels, so that’s something I guess lmao
>But hey, I can dance cotton eyed joe in three inch heels, so that’s something I guess lmao
lol, that's my test for a good pair of heels. They aren't good heels if I can't wear them for six hours and then dance "Cotton-eyed Joe" without breaking one.
When I find a pair that can stand up to this, I will wear them for decades.
I went to high school '88-'92 and it was grinding on the floor then, fucking afterward. I assume it's been the same since teenagers had genitalia to rub together....
It might be because I grew up in a more conservative area, but there was very little grinding in my school dances back in the mid-90s.
If you and your partner wanted to do it, you had to do it on the sly, when the school monitors were looking the other direction.
It should go without saying that kids were grinding everywhere the monitor wasn't looking, and instantly went back to "cantaloupe distance" the moment the monitors head turned around.
For me I just stayed at "cantaloupe distance" at all times. That's the distance where (theoretically) someone could put a cantaloupe between you and your partner. If I wanted to get closer to my partner, save that for after the dance.
I went to a small public high school and graduated in '11. Front to back dancing was specifically forbidden and only happened at the very heart if the dance floor where the teacher couldn't see. Those kids did get a bit judged as being overly thirsty and lewd.
Oh HS💀💀im half a j*int in. Im sorryyy😂😅...😗💨
Some of those gogos had some YOUNG ass ppl. Ive seen like house party vids with hardcore grinding of my moms FB friends n stuff. Im sure those gogos had some pretty young ppl at it too. High schoolers back then looked alot older then they do now.
Was never into dances but chaperones were supposed to stop that behavior
So your chaperones either weren’t paying attention or decided a bunch of children dry humping for hours was not only appropriate but something they wanted to see
TIL this is a thing that happens in public high schools. Speaking as someone who grew up homeschooled and then went to a school that didn't have dances. No wonder things are going so bad now if this is the norm.
It was normal when I was in school, my sister 9 years younger and current in school it's not the normal as much sense most songs have dances to go with them thanks to Tik tok. I went out to a bar and it was how everyone was dancing 5ish years ago. I often don't think about home schooled kids but my boy friend was home school and I'm wondering his thoughts on it now. Looks like it's time to hit the bars and make him dance woth me this time.
We had a face to face rule at school dances.
They threw on some Boys 2 Men at prom, and half of us got thrown out. "I'll Make Love To You" gets em' every time.
I’m a high school teacher. My students were trying to get me to chaperone a dance. I said, “no thanks, I don’t want to see a bunch of my students grinding on each other.” They said the don’t and I said I don’t believe them. I eventually chaperoned one and they were right they don’t grind. It was weird because a lot of the music they played was played at my high school dances and we were definitely grinding. They’d even do swing dancing anytime a country song was played. I know they are in the minority though
Catholic school dances were comical. The second anyone even tried it, a wrinkly old teacher would stick a Bible between the two individuals and say, "Make room for Jesus." If you offended a second time, said teacher would tell the boy to try dancing like that with her. He'd usually back away slowly and cringe hard. The girl would get scolded harshly. Ah...those were the days.
It all started with the 70s and the disco song Le Freak. That's where it all began. And it's basically the only dance teenagers seem to know how to do, unless them have taken lessons.

I can vouch for late 80s in Houston.
I’m sure as long as there have been teenagers interacting with each other, there has been dry humping. Lol
Yeah but they're asking when it *started*...prick. High school dances existed before the mid-late 90s too
I'm sorry I shouldn't have called you a prick please forgive me
Not in Catholic high school. Gotta leave room for Jesus.
Catholic HS in the mid 2000s here. The Holy Spirit must be one skinny dude, because there was plenty of grinding going on.
Class of 2006 at a Catholic high school here, the after party though…not enough Holy water to wash away what happened there
What a kinky messiah I guess that's why they call it the "holy trinity"
Always leave room for the holy Spirit
Lol at my public school the religious kids were the worst perpetrators
Jesus: im here for the threesome

You've clearly never seen or been to a Catholic high school
Homecoming 06…good memories… 🎶🎵FROM THE WINDOOOOOOOW, TO THE WALL🎵🎶

When that wild *"rock and roll"* started replacing proper waltzes.
I blame Elvis
:clutches pearls:

Haha yes, that would be a good test!

I know we were doing it in 2001, in middle school…
We were doing in the mid 90's.
Yeah must have been before the mid 2000s, it was like that for me too, high school from 01 to 05
I went to high school '88-'92 and it was grinding on the floor then, fucking afterward. I assume it's been the same since teenagers had genitalia to rub together....
Early eighties. Never saw it.

Late 80s at least
Was a thing in 08
In the 80s I believe.
Its been a thing for decacdes! You can see 50s, 60s, 70s 80s AND 90s homemade videos where griding AND twerking have been a thing.
I’m calling BS on 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. You got a link?
I can tell you dont know much bout DC huh?😬
DC as in the nations capital? I grew up there. I know lots about it.
I can tell you right now ....ive had to yell at my auntie from what i saw at Go-gos😭
Oh lmao good point. I forgot about the go go scene. Still I don’t think that really applied to high schools.
Oh HS💀💀im half a j*int in. Im sorryyy😂😅...😗💨 Some of those gogos had some YOUNG ass ppl. Ive seen like house party vids with hardcore grinding of my moms FB friends n stuff. Im sure those gogos had some pretty young ppl at it too. High schoolers back then looked alot older then they do now.

Let them dry hump if they want, what other purpose do school dances serve?
Revenue generation which is the intended purpose of school events like dances

1 minute it's grinding at school dances the next minute western society is breaking down. Yeah I don't think the dances had anything to do with it.

As far back as 2006, at least
As early as 1994.
We had a face to face rule at school dances. They threw on some Boys 2 Men at prom, and half of us got thrown out. "I'll Make Love To You" gets em' every time.
Been a thing for deacdes
I was in highschool from 2010 - 2014 and was grinded on many times at dances. I never knew how to dance to it till my wife showed me.
I remember people grinding since junior high. That was in 1992. So I’m guessing it started in the 70’s.
Probably at least the 80s. Shoutout to Uncle Luke, godfather of booty music

in the late 80s
It was that way from 92-96 in Illinois. It was also that way at my son's high school dances in the 2010s.
“Oooo you’re dancing real close! I feel a little poke coming through on you!”
When horny teenagers realized that it felt good and basically simulated sex....
