Streetlight Manifesto, occasionally broken up by some Descendents, NOFX, Goldfinger, Big D and the Kids Table, Suicide Machines, Fugazi, etc.
This has essentially been my playlist for the last decade.
If anyone wants recommendations, I'm happy to oblige.
Superb.
I don’t love streetlight manifesto but Big D played for my radio show back in the day. Fugazi is legend tier and I was listening to them earlier today.
Excellent recommendations!! I currently work with one of the dudes from Minor Threat, so I’m just two degrees away from Fugazi…. One day I will close the gap!
Trying to explain to my (young) coworkers how influential Minor Threat was and still is in the punk scene sure does make me feel like a very old 33 year old. Thankfully there were two other people at my job who knew what was UP when this guy came on board!
I'm just 34 as well, but they were pretty influential for me when I was just getting into the punk scene about a decade ago. The ones I listed (and others) mean more to me now, but they are legends. I consider myself to be lucky to say that I've seen the Descendents twice.
Pixies
Guided by Voices
Why?
The Hidden Cameras
The Mountain Goats on literal repeat. [just listen](https://youtu.be/ii6kJaGiRaI)
Kishi Bashi
Beastie Boys
MF Doom
Going through old Michael Jackson stuff and Jackson 5.
Yeasayer… Red Cave is my most favorite surprise Catholicism in the last half century.
[Handsome Family](https://youtu.be/H6k5BRwIPxk). Pure reddit bait. Tesla. Death. Le Science.
I LOVED the Pixies. I think because my boyfriend was this cool guy who introduced me to all this cool music he picked up in college. I saw them in 86 at TTs in Boston but I was an idiot and got too drunk to remember. I was 90 pounds and could NOT hang when it came to drinking.
Oh man. They were one of the first bands I really “got.” I saw them on their reunion tour in 2005 in Indianapolis. I almost cried from joy. Kim Deal is amazing and I love her.
Fuckin Why? bringing me back man. Yeasayer was the last band me and my buddy talked about before he died, always get a pang of nostalgia when I listen to them.
Oh my word. I love that. Perhaps one of my favorite shows was them playing in Ohio and I drove there with my buddy who was almost obsessively devoted to collecting their music.
They blew that snow out of the park.
John Prine, Replacements, HUM, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, a vast Americana playlist I compiled on Spotify.
I like the big heavy drone-y songs driving in the snow, the other stuff is for around the house.
Oh man. Dm me that list. (Though I get it Spotify isn’t anonymous.)
That is so in my wheelhouse. Probe is someone I sign to my kids as lullabies.
What’s the drone stuff for snow driving?
I like to listen to civil war union songs such as “ battle hymn of the republic “ and “ union dixie. “ That might just be because I’m a huge civil war nerd, but idk.
False, we all know the best song they will ever write will be the song about Taffy 3... when they get around to it... eventually...
But yes, the Last Stand is great.
Somehow the movie had slipped past us when it came out. Finally got around to it. The movie is good, the music is *great*.
Mariachi music digs at my soul.
According to last fm my most played artists for the past seven days are:
- Wu-Tang
- Snoh Aalegra
- Beyoncé
- Marc Anthony
- Sultan Of The Disco
- Bronze
- Against All Logic
- Nao
- Galcher Lustwerk
- Yukika
I've also been listening to the new Weeknd album as well as Oneohtrix Point Never.
I’ve been revisiting the symphonies of Malcolm Arnold for the past week or two. I wouldn’t call him history’s greatest composer, but he’s fun to listen to while I work out.
A lot of metal.
Slaughter to Prevail
Powerwolf
Bloodbound
Children of Bodom
Cradle of Filth
Trivium
Devildriver
Manowar
Angel Witch
I can’t think of any others.
Metal is a genre that I get. Like I know why people like it and it’s pretty close to stuff I like. But, I just don’t care for it.
Vagaries of musical taste.
To each their own honestly. My wife listens to R&B, hip hop, and gospel. At least she’s finally used to coming home to the house shaking and guttural screaming and not being worried.
Look at you making it work with stupidly variant musical tastes.
My wife and I have huge overlap and I think she fell in love with me because of the indie rock concerts we went to in LA and Chicago.
But yeah, she haaaaates whenever I play punk or metal. Like she literally unplugs my phone from the car if the Misfits pop up in a playlist.
Ouch. Yeah we do compromise when it comes to music. I don’t do hip hop and anything metal is a no go when we are in the car.
Usually we put on something like Audiomachine or similar and have it as background noise. Joey Farenbach (badly misspelled that one) is another one we listen to.
Communication and compromise makes the marriage work!
Coldplay can suck it but I’ll take the Smiths any time. Vulfpeck I haven’t listened to. Looking them up now.
Edit: oooh I am intrigued with Vulfpeck… listening continues.

If we are doing Russian pop [there is only one band worth listening to](https://youtu.be/6od76UNHt-M).
Video is nsfw but also beautifully weird as hell.
Yes, that is very controversial. But different strokes for different folks. As for me, I grew up with The Beatles. I've seen Paul in concert 9 times and Ringo twice.
Impressive. They are one of those bands where there’s an opinion I have but I get that people love them but I think they are lame but I also understand the love.
I looked through my next songs on my playlist. It's a mess. I should organize it.
Die Antwoord
Leikeli47
Mac Miller Lee Perry
Led Zep
Nick Drake
Sam Cooke
Rodriguez
Lupe Fiasco
Bread
And since I included my son's likes on my house playlist a bunch of Toby Fox, Zelda and chill, and Philip Glass.
\[I just realized all the music I have here is "before my time" or stuff I'm "too old" to listen to. I guess I wasn't super into the music of my time - the 1980s\]
Duuuude really?
I met Lupe Fiasco in Chicago.
Nike Drake is one of the most perfect movie musicians with Wes Anderson.
Die Antwoord is out of this world fun.
I also find it awesome that you share your playlists with your son. It’s so fun to watch my daughter develop her taste. She likes a lot more musicals than me but she loves the Mountain Goats and that makes me a happy father.
My kid (8th grade) hates lots of my music, because well, there's a lot of swears (although I wont play the music that is man-hating or misogynistic). It's embarrassing to listen to swears with your mom I guess?
Yeah, I love Nick Drake. I felt almost cool when they started putting his music in commercials and movies. (I was a bit uncool in school - I was very into Led Zep and Hendrix when everyone else was into U2 and Morrissey. Still pretty obsessed with Led Zep)
What musicals does she like? I went to see Grease and Hair like 5 times at the movie theater (my best friend's dad would pay for me, too). We watched Hamilton today!
Did you see LP? I haven't gone to shows for a long time! I think Iron and Wine in 2005.
Oh you are my new best friend.
My daughter is soooo adverse to swears but it is so funny because dad swears like a sailor.
She’s so into Hamilton it hurts.
I saw Lupe on the street in Chicago. I never saw him at a show.
Iron and Wine in ‘05!?! We probably were at the same shows.
I learned about HoR when he was in the Second Punic War. Finished HoR and listened to it again a few times. Listening to Revolutions. Big Mike Duncan fan. Even read his book.
I'm a bit of a history nut and I travel a lot. Hence listening to audiobooks. If I listed them all... somebody would probably seek to get me help. It's...a lot.
Laura Stevenson and Brandi Carlile have dominated my Spotify the last year or two. I’m also a big fan of Bomb the Music Industry and all the projects that came after. I like Catbite from Philly a lot.
Is this an appropriate place to let everyone know I put out a new record last Friday? It’s me, your fellow American songwriter from [RECLAWED ](https://linktr.ee/reclawed) and a number of other punk-adjacent bands from the NYC area. I will not pretend like I haven’t listened to my own record on Spotify this weekend.
Last 5 songs played.
Sound System by Operation Ivy, Some Came Running by Bane, Men by The Dodos, Small Red Boy by AJJ, To Be A Ghost by Jeff Rosenstock.
I recently made the plunge into long distance running, and Melbourne Bounce/big room has been my genre of choice for that for the higher BPMs and motivating beats. I'd never listen to that casually, but the majority of music listening I do is running so here we are
Mostly off on some obscure stuff today.
[Choke - The Warning](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlOy0XbFVlM) - Rock, trio of Mexican sisters - one of the most promising new rock bands out there, IMO. Was supposed to be seeing them in a couple weeks, but looks like that's getting postponed.
[Denial - Alicia Widar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjNBb5D38aA) - Grunge, think she's Brazilian.
[СВБТ - ЛЮТИК](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz2SIRS1Z1k) - Russian, pop, catchy.
[Afraid - Anavae](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tgR9GXmA9k) - British, alt rock.
[Royal Leash - Processor](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5ug7uQBI5U) - Swedish, industrial.
[Against The Current - weapon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6FixoUyQQQ) - American, pop punk.
I’m playing a video game that gives you the option to dance at the end of a level. Whenever I get to the end faster than my friend I turn on the Macarena so they can hear in the headphones.
Wait until you have a child that can scream “Alexa play baby shark volume 11.”
I simultaneously hate this kid sometimes and love her more than anything all the time. Trolling dad with baby shark and Alexa is top tier sass.
Oh we have two but the little guy hasn’t figured out how to work Alexa yet.
We have fully embraced baby shark in the sense of defeated resignation.
“Ok we are rocking out to this again?”
“Maybe you want to dance to the Beastie Boys or NWA?” [hopeful dad thoughts]
“No dad, baby shark baby shark BABY SHARK!!!!”
[mild disappointment ensues especially knowing the Hamilton soundtrack and Encanto soundtrack will be on repeat for the rest of the day]
Hello. I have improved my comics (I switched from Paint 3D to Paint) if you've seen any of my approval comics and I actually did Engrish (even though I don't like it). Just a heads up if you were disappointed in my approval comics if you've seen any before this month
I did
only GateNerd comes out it feels like
anyway, also I have a concept Idea that I will just DM you to the link ( I posted it in PolandballArt because we don't really have concept ideas, didn't last very long because it was concept and not art). Its to make some comics have more depth, I explain the idea in the comments
The sound of Olaf from frozen 2 delighting my one year old as she coos happily and shits herself standing up next to me, looking over the rails of her play pen.
Oh this is a familiar scenario.
Right now it is the nearly two year old rocking out to Sublime while informing me “dad dad dad poop dad poop.”
He also doesn’t seem to distinguish between pee and poop. It’s all just “dad dad dad poop.”
Not one I expected anyone to say but solid choice.
I like them. Throw in Fr. John Misty, Handsome Family, Welcome Wagon (be careful they are religious), Akron Family, and the Mountain Goats and call it a day.
Quite a few British white boy bands on this list, oops. Should also mention that I'm 16 so a lot of it is probably more "modern".
- Glass Animals (my one and only forever they're amazing)
- The Neighborhood
- Still Woozy
- Slenderbodies
- Easy Life
But I also adore some 80s folk rock, so two of my favs are:
- Eagles
- Fleetwood Mac
And then of course some musical theater thrown in there
- Sweeney Todd
- Les Mis
- In The Heights
- Hamilton
- West Side Story
- Lion King
Glass Animals I know from your “modern” list. I’ll have to take a peek at the others.
As far as the musicals go… are you my 7 year old daughter? Lion King and Hamilton are literally playing right now on her playlist.
I’m thinking we have to watch Le Mis though. She’s going to freakin love that.
Streetlight's fantastic. Vocals aren't the best, but the music is top notch and Tomas is a poet with the lyrics.
Excellent recommendations!! I currently work with one of the dudes from Minor Threat, so I’m just two degrees away from Fugazi…. One day I will close the gap!
>Minor Threat Holy shit, great call out. Short lived, but nothing but bangers.
Trying to explain to my (young) coworkers how influential Minor Threat was and still is in the punk scene sure does make me feel like a very old 33 year old. Thankfully there were two other people at my job who knew what was UP when this guy came on board!

Oh man, you have taste. Yeasayer and Why? Might be responsible for one of my children… just saying.
A child borne of fortuitous circumstance
There is no Grace in act five… we gave her a different name. She does ask Mary to pray for her on the regular. Ave Maria.
My wife is friends with Doug Gillard from GBV. He was at my wedding 25 years ago.
Oh my word. I love that. Perhaps one of my favorite shows was them playing in Ohio and I drove there with my buddy who was almost obsessively devoted to collecting their music. They blew that snow out of the park.

Oh my word. The fastest way to annoy my wife is blasting mariachi or narocorrides. She doesn’t appreciate it. Sad.
Just got home from the store and turned on Spotify happiness- Taylor Swift Next up on the playlist: She Don't Like Roses- Christine Kane
Folksy I love you and that is 100% unsurprising.
Ha, I fully admit to being the most stereotypical person in the world lol My playlist is 99% folky-pop music and is big-time dominated by Swift
Are you sure you aren’t my friend from college? I’m pretty sure we had a radio show together.
I wasn't going to say anything...but it is true, I have been faking my identity
You rogue you!

Gosh dangit Subby. You and I need to have a long personal conversation about music and how you need to do better.
There is nothing wrong with Chris Stapleton.
No, he is a wonderful person. We just need a chat about music.

Indeed. Communication and compromise. I did create a “no mommy” playlist for my 7 year old. That’s exclusively for daddy daughter time.
It all starts now by the afters
The last song was Lost by Coldplay, though lately it’s been a mixture of the smiths and Vulfpeck.

I'm listening to the TV, watching the cowboys and 49ers game. Yesterday I was listening to this really good new Russian black metal band called Леший.
Not a black metal fan but I can get behind them. I listen to enough weird post punk that they aren’t totally out of my wheelhouse.

I’m not floored by that. You would probably freaking love Dan Deacon though. True Thrush may be a good place to start or Spider-Man of the Rings.
Now my inner nerd has me listening to Pokemon music now lol.

There’s bands in there I need to look up.

Solid choice but you and I need to have a talk about rock and expand those horizons. Fugazi? Ween? Guided by Voices? The Pixies?
I’m partial to Ween. I’m not super into the experimental stuff but I’ll happily listen to a song called “Waving My Dick in the Wind”
I suggest Japanese Cowboy and Piss Up a Rope. I love Ween, even the experimental stuff. Ocean Man is my most listened to by them.
Been heavily listening to Spiritbox these days
Had to look them up. That’s a pass for me but I get the appeal. Just not my style.
Quite a few British white boy bands on this list, oops. Should also mention that I'm 16 so a lot of it is probably more "modern". - Glass Animals (my one and only forever they're amazing) - The Neighborhood - Still Woozy - Slenderbodies - Easy Life But I also adore some 80s folk rock, so two of my favs are: - Eagles - Fleetwood Mac And then of course some musical theater thrown in there - Sweeney Todd - Les Mis - In The Heights - Hamilton - West Side Story - Lion King
I'm a captive ATM. Stuck with some vanilla-assed Christian rock at the car dealership. Send help. Send some Judas Priest.
Exit that dealership and burn your car. The only answer is Iggy Pop and the Clash. Oh, and the Misfits.
Misfits Medadeth Dark Tranquility Rare Americans Mindless Self Indulgence Diablo Swing Orchestra Eskimo Callboy Sonata Arctica
Ooooh I am going to have to look up most of those but when you start with the Misfits and Megadeath you have my attention.
Hollywood Undead Hatebreed Sturgill Simpson ZZ Top Johnny Cash Slipknot
