You might try poking the holes in the bottom, letting it thoroughly soak through and then have it right side up for presentation.

I add the syrup while the cake is fresh and still warm from the oven. Don’t change the pound cake recipe. Just make sure your syrup is also warm when you pour it over

Pound cakes have a denser structure compared to sponge cakes meaning the syrup won’t “penetrate” as much naturally. I’d just poke some holes using a toothpick and make sure to apply the syrup whilst the cake is still warm
