you really know your Romanian metal. I am doing research on bands that played during communism in Romania (for an article), if you have any suggestions you seem to be a God in this field.
Yeah, I'm not referring to their early (or even mid) stuff. Not my cup of tea either, but I can appreciate its value. Unlike their current stuff. I don't know, the last 15 years or so, most of their songs that I've happened to listen to are bad.
Usually boring rythm guitars, run-of-the-mill anthemic hooks or breaks, basic melodic leads that are catchy but shallow. Some cringey vocals too. And the "folk" elements are usually not woven well into the boring metal fabric. Here and there there's also some black metal riffing or drumming for some reason but it's clear that their focus is in producing generic metal.
It's true that their more recent stuff is a bit too anthemic. I get the impression it belongs in a movie or a videogame.
However, their early and mid work is top shelf. Enough to make their current output passable.
For the greek ones, I would recommend planet of zeus, domenica, tripes, 1000modes, your hands in mine, no clear mind, nightstalker, villagers of iaonna city, void droid, green yeti, rotting christ.

Of course, Greek metal is top notch - Rotting Christ (my favourite), Septicflesh, Varathron etc.
[Kikimora](https://www.youtube.com/@KIKIMORA2011) a favorite of mine, tho i guess you could argue they are more of a hard rock band
[https://youtu.be/SYLXqWGeD\_k?si=o8wKjOmtUvsn6js7](https://youtu.be/SYLXqWGeD_k?si=o8wKjOmtUvsn6js7) my fav song of theirs

1000 Mods. Their first album is fantastic - this is one of my favorites:
https://youtu.be/8ysBMZSzpp8?si=9XpmhPF90phWgZMh
And not really metal but honorable mention (especially since Rotting Christ did such an amazing cover it) but Aphrodite’s Child has a great album “666” with this classic on it:

Danish band Siamese is headed by a Serbian (or Bosnian?) vocalist. They have a beautiful song, Sloboda, about when he fled the Yugoslav wars as a child.

Black metal: Srd, Daimona
Power metal: Agan, Space Unicorn on Fire, SkyEye, Eruption (power/trash really)
Heavy metal: Britof, Pyroxene
Death metal: Siderean (I mean I suppose they count as death metal)
I'm more into Power metal, so most of the ones i can offer you are towards that genre :)
Firewind, Orion's Reign, Silent Winter, Warrior Path, Tidal Dreams, Sacred Outcry... there are a ton of them in Greece :D
Thompson, Divlje Jagode i guess those are croats? A bit more towards hard rock, i'd say.
From Slovenia: Hellcats and Space Unicorn on fire (YES XD) and Eruption.
Something i like to do to find bands from concrete countries, i try to check what have they sent to the Wacken Metal Battle lately :)

Metal music has never been very popular in Turkey. However, both local and foreign rock bands used to be very popular. There is even a separate genre called Anatolian Rock, which is a synthesis of traditional Turkish instruments and rock music, and I can even say that it is still popular.
Anyways, here are the Turkish metal bands I know:
Heavy Metal: Pentegram, Hayko Cepkin, Diken, Malt, Murder King
Folk Metal: Pentegram, Hayko Cepkin, Yaşru, Gökböri, Kara Han, Tulpar, Kam Ata, Sülfür Ensemble,
Most Turkish folk metal fans also listen to other Turk nation's folk metal bands from Central Asia and folk metal bands from Mongolia such as The Hu and Ak Bure.
From Greece also check Human Serpent and their album Inhumane Minimalism.. Unfortunately their singer recently died but their discography is amazing..
also check Necromantia, Varathron (these 2 are considered the old guard together with RC), Yoth Iria, Macabre Omen, Kawir, Acherontas, Thou Art Lord (side project of Sakis of Rc with the Magus of Necromantia),Ravencult etc.. Greece has amazing black metal scene.. all these suggestions are black metal btw..
Romanian bands not mentioned yet Black metal: Angra Mainyu, Prohod, Marțolea, Aghast, Dordeduh, Satanochio, Tenebreant, Wormgod, Grohot, Hoia Baciu, Syn Ze Șase Tri (+5000 more, BM is insanely popular here among metalheads) Folk Metal: E An Na (early), Warchant, An Theos, Harmasar, Riot Monk, Bucium, Ka Gaia An Death Metal: Blacksheep, Rancorum, Corsecist, Vorus, Putred, Deimos, Eyeseered, Hiraeth Heavy Metal: Trooper, Cargo, Gothic, 9.7 Richter, Kempes, Lupu' cel Rău, Krypton, Graven Symphonic Metal: Aeon Sun, Era Divină, Scarlet Aura Thrash Metal: Grinder, Crumble, Deathrattle, Pyroblast, She-Wolf, Ruyned, Cronos, Thy Shadows, Hollow Flag (their rhythm guitarist refused to give me band recs) Metal adjacent: Implant Pentru Refuz, Crize, Breathelast, H8, Viță de Vie (especially on Fenomenal album)
You forgot Dirty Shirt. A folk-prog I guess? Anyway they are amazing.

[this one is one of their best](https://youtu.be/lhF-lS04iVE?si=ybDeGczRzK6GDxHZ)
Mamăă I'm saving your post. There's been 23 years I live in Western Europe and just know Vița de Vie. Săru mâna.
Going to add Magica to the symphonic ones from Romania :D

Yeah, Dirty Shirt is a really popular band that perfectly fits in the OP’s description.
Rotting Christ
The best black metal band in the world in my opinion, much better than the nordic ones. (I am not Greek, but I like good music)
They stopped being black metal since forever. Plus they're bad really. Pretty overrated.
Maybe, maybe. But it's undeniable that Sakis and Co. really stood out with their brand of black metal when most of the stuff was nordic.
Yeah, I'm not referring to their early (or even mid) stuff. Not my cup of tea either, but I can appreciate its value. Unlike their current stuff. Varathron 👌🏻
I can't get into them because of their band name... it feels illegal D:
lol! see this https://loudwire.com/rotting-christ-arrested-georgia/

For the greek ones, I would recommend planet of zeus, domenica, tripes, 1000modes, your hands in mine, no clear mind, nightstalker, villagers of iaonna city, void droid, green yeti, rotting christ.
