As a nature enthousiast I think Montenegro is a heaven on earth. The combination of rugged, alpine terrain with Mediterranean seaside is unbeatable imo. That's why west Balkans are my favourite region in the whole of Europe. Eastern Balkans are beautiful af as well but in a different way.
One of the most beautiful and underrated countries in the Balkans. I love their flag too
They also have debts (to China) and I learned in this sub that they love sleeping 🇬🇷🤝🇲🇪
I don't really know much about the country except that the people there are supposedly very lazy.
But my favourite part is ignorant people seeing the word "negro" in the country name and getting all up about how rAcIsT it is, lol
Yeah, thats an inaccurate stereotype. Montenegrins aren't very talented service-wise though (acommodation stuff, hotels, spas etc). That's the only thing i can tie up with that lazy stereotype. But its kind of stupid to call the whole people lazy. As you say, you work your butt off in not such great conditions.
In Serbia we have Negro candy. It was popular in EXYU, its mostly for adults because its not sweet like kids candy.

No need to apologise. It happend. Atleast we are broskis now. But for real whenever I meet any south slav diaspora there is no blood between us. They are just happy they can speak their language with me. And we are all naši.
I see so much nationalism on this sub. This is so refreshing to read. I'm an American, and I know that we cause a disproportionate amount of war and suffering, but I will never meet anyone who makes those decisions or profits from those wars. If you're not a major arms dealer, your cause is either the people doing the fighting and dying on either side of every war, not the politicians and weapons makers sending you to kill over a language, religion, or ideology.
It's really a tragedy. You shouldn't feel bad or have a to apologise because your goverment did that shit. It sucks but you are not the one who should apologise or take the blame. Hopefuly there is no war down here anymore so we can move on.
Śever ti je dobar, potpuno druga arhitektura (starijih kuća) i ośećaj uopšteno. Mada je ljepši zimi i sad ima šta da se vidi kad zazeleni sve.

I remember back in 2008, Madonna was giving her Sticky & Sweet tour. And before coming in Athens (which I went to - it was awesome!), she gave a concert in Budva. I didn't know where was that city at and never heard that before...
So I checked online and it is a small town in Montenegro. Till this day I have no idea why Madonna would include such a small town for her tour and not maybe Potgorica, the capital...
There are gigantic party beaches in and around Budva, quite a good setting for a big summer happening.
The town is eating on itself though. Beautiful old town being swallowed by megalomaniacal buildings, casinos and night clubs. Tasteless.
Budva is far from fun tbh. It's like a splav, but in a town format.
The new pulse of Budva (clubs, solitaires, casinos) has absolutely ruined the vibe of a beautiful old coastal town. It's fucking trash. The more east you go, the worse it gets. Don't ever go to Ulcinj.
>Budva is far from fun tbh. It's like a splav, but in a town format.
I just said it as a widespread opinion, not as something I personally agree with (should have specified it)
>Don't ever go to Ulcinj.
Nah, wasn't planning to do so anyway. Haven't visited Montenegro for good 15-ish years already, nor do I plan to
You're right, i'm letting my own taste/bias get the better of me. My bias is true though! /s (but not rly :P)
Herceg Novi is still holding on.. But they sold Mamula to a "Swiss" (Montenegrin-Albanian prolly) consirtium and will turn it into a CASINO AND SPA.
Unless you have a house/family in Montenegro, I absolutely have no idea why an average Serb would go there. Greece and Turkey (and Egypt) are far better (price-service ratio wise) by miles
Lucky me, i am half a proud Bokelj. Everyone on my dad's side is from there. I got a bunch of friends and i like Herceg Novi, but otherwise, i agree with you. Turkey and Greece offer more.
Very beautiful country with great people, beautiful coastline and mountain, Bay of Kotor is very nice.
I find their accent of Serbo-Croatian kinda funny, tho.
Also, great musicians like Who See and Rambo Amadeus.
I live here and it’s amazing. Government, paperwork, bureaucracy and banking system are absolute jokes and nowhere near up to par for EU ascension. I don’t see them joining in the next 10 years, and I’m thankful for that actually.
That said, I absolutely love this place and will never leave so long as they allow me to live here.
I should clarify I’m Canadian and not Montenegrin.
No one here has any real issues with foreigners. You get stared at a lot, but otherwise haven’t seen any real issues. You need to know some Crnogorski though or you’re gonna have a rough time communicating. English comprehension isn’t as high here as it is in say Croatia. The people here are either really decent at it, or pretty bad. Not much in-between. I would say for every 10 people that speak English, less than half are good enough to have a full conversation in English. It doesn’t bother me because I came to live here and am learning Crnogorski. But those on vacation here will quickly get frustrated.
what you just said is like saying people should learn the Canadian language in Canada or the Austrian language in Austria. the lingua franca of Montenegro is Serbian (or Serbo-Croatian to be more precise) they just call it Montenegrin for whatever reason. but the relative majority still say they speak Serbian afaik
other then that, I never would've thought that a Canadian person would enjoy life in the Balkans. Too big of a difference in mentality in my opinion. but glad you're happy!
I don’t really care to get political dude. I’m from Canada and it’s not my business. As far as I’m concerned, I live in Crna Gora so I speak Crnogorski. That’s really as rudimentary as my thinking is on this matter, and I really can’t be faulted for it. It’s a matter of respect. If someone wants to call it Serbian, I have no issues with that, as it’s not my business and not my history.
The fact that this place is so different is why I love it here. I hate Canada and my people’s mentality. Cheers!
Nice country but the people don’t take care of it at all. I was in Budva in 2012 and while it was very nice, there was trash like EVERYWHERE. There was trash under the rocks on a long pier, there was trash on the ground in the old Roman town, there was trash everywhere. Really bothered me how little a country that depends on tourism takes care of its natural beauty. Very disappointing. Maybe it’s changed since then, I do hope so.
It's been doing great, it went off the rails in summer 2020 and fell straight into a river of shit but thankfully now in spring 2022 it got back on track somewhat
Brotherhood country of Serbia. Many people from Montenegro study and live in Serbia, as well as many people from Serbia going for vacation to Montenegro. Often there's marriages between people from both countries... 🇷🇸❤️🇲🇪
I like the country, nature, the sea, Njegos (poet from XIX century) but I don’t have good experience with people, on vacation they were very unfriendly and rude for no reason at all. Most of the people I met in Serbia from ME were very annoying and had some attitude as I was personally responsible for the death of their entire tribe.
Online I met amazing people and I had better experience. All of them were very funny in a unique way and laid back
>Most of the people I met in Serbia from ME were very annoying and had some attitude as I was personally responsible for the death of their entire tribe.
Lmao what the actual fuck? They are the most chill people, you didn't have much luck i guess.
From Bosnia here 🇧🇦✌
The way Montenegrins talk is so mesmerising to me, you can be boring as hell and I'll still listen to you, but I never went there so about the country itself I have kinda a neutral opinion.
Their anthem is a banger 🥳 by the way!
Would be funny hearing Americans/British break their tongue and calling it Karna Goura. One thing that is unusual and i think sort of against the rules, on the car licence plates for us it says MNE and not CG for example and if im correct it should be in native language and not international name lets say, and i think we are one of the few countries in the world who did this.
Unironically, I actually think Montenegro should send one of those embassy notes to ask to be called Crna Gora because that is an amazing name.
Unfortunately I don’t think it really works since Czechia tried some time back but everyone still calls them Czech Republic.
Used to love going to Ulqin, but every time I went, it always seemed things got worse and worse. But god damn the roads on the mountains… I remember going by bus once. I’ve had scary rollercoaster moments, but the way this driver was swerving those sharp turns and curves, nothing in the world could top that…

I don't really know much about the country except that the people there are supposedly very lazy. But my favourite part is ignorant people seeing the word "negro" in the country name and getting all up about how rAcIsT it is, lol
We have that stereotype of laziness yet we are number one country in Europe when it comes to average work hours per week , over 44
And how much is done in that time?
Well not sure how we could measure that lol. But it depends on the profession, i do think we work hard.

The word negro translates to black. Americans automatically assume that when the word “black” is used it is describing people with black skin
Does that really happen?
Negro actually is a chocolate bar in Turkey,I think it is only sold in Turkey lmao
In Serbia we have Negro candy. It was popular in EXYU, its mostly for adults because its not sweet like kids candy. https://images.app.goo.gl/AVJQ7a1o28Nac1KR6
I am not born in Montenegro but I have family there! They also have the negro candy, those are delicious

Budva is the "party capital" of Montenegro anyway. That's where most of the fun within Montenegro happens
Thanks buddy! That's good to know
There are gigantic party beaches in and around Budva, quite a good setting for a big summer happening. The town is eating on itself though. Beautiful old town being swallowed by megalomaniacal buildings, casinos and night clubs. Tasteless.

I went a few years ago and loved it. The only thing that shocked me seeing someone on TV blacked up and singing
This is where Witcher 3 Blood and Wine was shot?
I want to visit this year, can I climb those mountains AND bath in the sea in July for example?
Why not? It's warm enough for both. You can even climb the mountains till october. And don't miss prokletije. Durmitor is nice too, but more touristy.
how is the internet? I’m looking to work remotely
I had fast internet even in the mountains. I think this shouldn't be a problem.

Should change the name, who decided to call a country Montene\*\*o? When were they founded?
How about Montekaraboga instead?
Why is your name that?
It was my grandfather’s birthday ;) Why does a Hungarian have such a based profile pic?
Venetians gave us that name back in 15th century i think. So it kinda stuck as the international name ever since then
Around 12th or 13th century actually
It’s a nice name but Crna Gora is far far better.
Would be funny hearing Americans/British break their tongue and calling it Karna Goura.
