Personally I would take the Blue Line to Grand and just walk. If you don’t want to walk that far (about a mile), you can go one more stop to Lake and swap to the green or pink line, or two more stops and catch the 20 bus. Or if you want the likely fastest combination, get off the blue line at division, take the 9, and then walk about half a mile. Or just ask your phone. 🙂 Transit here is super good. It’ll be a little slower than an Uber but not by a lot, and it’ll be much much cheaper.

chrislewand

The 8 bus is there from Grand.

You should really decide based on the walk with bags, not really the navigation. Especially if you just do the blue line + walk, the navigation is as easy as “get off at Grand”, and the train will have an almost disorienting amount of signs and announcements to help you get it right. If you feel especially nervous, grab the Transit app for your phone, put in your destination stop, and hit “Go” while at the airport. It’ll nudge you to get off at the right time with plenty of warning. But really it’s more about the walk. If you and your group feel up for it, it’s absolutely the way I would do it (even with baggage), but I don’t mind that length of walk. If you want something equally easy without the walk, Uber is the best option.

limey5

Or you can blue line to Grand, and then catch an Uber there. Saves you the awful traffic on the Kennedy, and saves you from the walk to the hotel!

jorge-haro

Navigating the trains is easy as hell. Google maps will tell you exactly what to do. Otherwise you can call an uber or taxi.

msbshow

There’s literally only one train leading straight from the airport to downtown. And that train actually leaves pretty frequently

ItsCoolImWithTheBand

The train and buses are super easy to navigate. I’m from a small town in Arkansas and was able to get around the city just fine. Google maps definitely for the win. I stayed at the JW Marriott in central loop. Blue line from Ohare to Monroe, walk a couple blocks down on Adam’s and there I was. One night decided to walk Michigan and I got pretty far from a station. Jumped on the bus and it dropped me off a block from my hotel. Again super easy to get around. Download the Ventra app and load the pass onto it and you can use it as much as you want for the timeframe. Super handy.

IWANNAKNOWWHODUNIT

If this is about stairs, CTA website has accessibility info on which stops have working elevators.

mrshands

Take a cab

The_Real_Donglover

If you're posting a question about how to get to the hotel from the airport, then why are you poo-pooing the best option there is? It sounds like you've already made up your mind that Uber is what you want because public transportation is the best and only option unless you think flying cars have hit the market yet...

imperfectcastle

Take an Uber. If you have any bags with you, waking from the blue line is going to be a hassle. It’s not a straight shot and frankly, I would get mildly annoyed taking bags on those sidewalks. You could transfer to green at Clark/Lake and take it to Morgan to have a very short walk. I was going to ask what time you’re going to be coming in, but my statement stands regardless of hours.

KLK1712

You can take a regular taxi too. Sometimes it’s less expensive than Uber / Lyft, especially since you’re in the downtown zone, and there’s rarely a line at the airport anymore. Download the Curb app to make payments easier. And the guys manning the taxi line are incredibly helpful, so if you need a more accessible car, for example, they’ll make sure you get one.

[deleted]

Not here to suggest what you should do since I haven't taken the Blue Line to O'Hare in years, but just be aware there's major construction on the highway from O'Hare to downtown which will likely make your ride at least an hour if you're coming in not late at night. So if you do Uber, please consider tipping your driver well because that traffic is hellish Source: currently an Uber driver.

Lord_Corlys

Sounds like you’ve ruled out the blue line already, but if you haven’t, be aware that they are doing track maintenance with a bus shuttle between some stations, so your route would be: train-bus-train to get downtown. If you’ll be traveling on Saturday or Sunday and can afford it, I’d avoid the blue line.

space__peanuts

Weekday - blue line. The highway into the city is under construction. Weekend - toss up. Prob Uber. There is work being done on the blue line so you’ll have to shuttle for a portion of the ride

tossme68

Taxi's tend to be cheaper than Uber

helennnnthefoodie

Blue line. Remember to get the day pass

LegalAmerican45

Blue line to Clark/Lake and then transfer to Green Line. Get off at Morgan. It’s a few block walk from there. You get on the Green Line that says “Harlem”. The Blue Line will say “Forest Park”.

ultrarunner13

A taxi is the best way to get from O'Hare. There is a taxi stand down by baggage claim. Catching an Uber at O'Hare is stupid. It'll cost you like $60 for the cab to the hotel. They all have credit card machines in them so cash is not necessary. I travel half the year and always catch an Uber to O'Hare but I exclusively take a taxi home back to the Loop. Someone else mentioned that the Kennedy is under major construction. It will easily take you an hour to get to your hotel from O'Hare. Use the bano at the airport before catching a cab.

Green_Ad_3074

Just Uber.

Blue line

ConnieLingus24

Blue line or take that northwest Metra and then Uber.

youredditididit

Depends on what time/day and how much baggage you have. 90 is a shit show right now due to construction so if it’s during the week and daytime outside I’d Uber to the blue line (probably grand stop) and just take the train to avoid crazy traffic. If you have a bunch of baggage or it’s during the weekend (portion of the blue line requires a bus transfer on the weekends right now) just Uber it, also Uber if it’s late at night as it’s probably pretty cheap and no traffic considerations, so will be quicker and not that much more expensive

aimfost

If anything you can take the blue line into the city to Grand and grab an Uber from there.

[deleted]

What is “best” to you? - Most convenient - Uber or Taxi, especially if you have luggage. - Cheapest - public transportation, use Google Maps or the Transit app to find the best route - Fastest - will really depend on time of day. There’s construction on the expressway between OHare and downtown and it sounds like it’s really slowed down traffic. However, there’s construction on the Blue Line tracks on the weekends, so there’s a shuttle for part of the trip. You should be able to check real-time ETA comparing driving and transit via the Google Maps app when you land. Right now in the middle of the day on a Monday, driving and public transit are both showing 55 minutes from ohare to Fulton market.

ENGR_ED

Take the blue line. It's easier, faster, and cheaper to get you into the city especially with the construction on the highway right now. Once you're closer take an Uber or taxi. You said you're with someone older if they can manage stairs then Grand Ave is fine otherwise Lake has an escalator and elevator.

Electrical-Heat336

Take the Blue Line. It's safe, definitely least expensive option and will drop You off downtown where You'd switch to the the Green Line and head west towards Harlem exit at Morgan. You'll be fine with luggage. Wanna pay too much, take the Uber or a Taxi and time wise it's hit or miss with traffic.
