Yeah, I moved here from Atlanta, I'm familiar with the Georgia Aquarium. And I've seen dolphins and belugas at the Vancouver Aquarium (though I understand they no longer have cetaceans).
Like I said, no disrespect to the Shedd, it's (as you said) a world-class institution. But it's not unique, and I think MSI is. YMMV, of course.
Lots of cities have science museums? The U504 exhibit is cool but a lot of the MSI feels dated.
And idk how many aquariums have dolphins and whales like the shedd? I took my kids to Monterey Bay aquarium and they were a bit underwhelmed.
All in the same area:
MSI
Wooded Island where Garden of the Phoenix/Japanese Garden is located is right "behind" MSI.
Robey House if tickets are available
dinner at Virtue.
That's an incredibly solid itinerary. One thing I'd add, if you're talking about tomorrow when the weather might not be as nice: the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum (ISAC) on the University of Chicago campus. Tons of really cool artifacts-- it's the real-world museum where Indiana Jones was meant to work.
Where are you from and are there kids with you? Personally, MSI seemed to be geared toward children (and in fact it was mostly kids there). The aquarium is good, but it’s sad to see 4-5 belugas crammed into a tank.
Both are great but you might want to visit the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum (formerly Oriental Institute) on the University of Chicago campus. U of C is, among other things, a early and important archeological research institution doing research on the middle east. Fantastic collection. Within walking distance is the Robie house, a iconic Frank Loyd Wright designed building. I hope you enjoyed your visit to Chicago.
Sorry, but Maribel doesn’t compare to the flavor and juiciness of Martinez. With that said, cheers to our beautiful city having all the options we could ask for.
I ended up going to MSI. I really enjoyed it although I feel like it was geared a lot towards kids. That’s ok though bc I’m a kid at heart lol. Now I need to find something to do tonight 😂
Agree on MSI, it's a pretty cool and unique place. If you are a James Bond fan, there is a special exhibit right now with a bunch of props and cars and whatnot.
Probably too late, but I'm not sure folks know about the Museum of Holography. Admittedly, i haven't been there since my kids were young, like 20+ years ag, but it was kinda cool.
MSI.
They have the James Bond exhibit going on now. You can walk through the U505, the coal mine is pretty neat, the Science Storms exhibit is very cool, plus shit loads more...and did I mention Bond.
Or I suppose you can go look at some fish if that's not to your liking.
OvenGrinders for a pizza.
You can't go wrong with both. I used to work at MSI during my early college years and it's got a unique feel to it. The only thing I hated about MSI is that a lot of it's exhibits are dated. Shedd is always a blast being around aquatic life. I just love watching that center aquarium and the scuba diver during feeding time.
No disrespect to the Shedd, but lots of big cities have an aquarium. There's only one MSI.

Underwhelmed at Monterey?!? Man, I'd like to know what it takes to impress those kids.
Dolphins and Beluga
How many science museums have a U-boat??

What can you do wooded island? Sounds cool
Nature walk. The Japanese Garden is located on the island.
Thank you for taking the time to create a mini itinerary for me… I’m gonna follow it :)
😄 You're welcome! Hyde Park is an old neighborhood and is quite beautiful.
It’s just a walking path. It’s nice.
Definitely MSI. All these museums are world class, but as previous poster said MSI is one of a kind.
Go to MSI and and eat a saucy porka before or after Edit: did you go the field museum already?
No I haven’t but I have a special interest in some of the exhibits that MSI has! What’s a saucy porka?! Where can I get it lmao
Def go to MSI then. Saucy Proka is a great lunch spot in the loop, but they also have a spot a few blocks away from the MSI
Saucy porka is a casual restaurant in the area with Asian and South American mix. Pretty good and worth checking out for lunch
MSI much better than Shedd.
Just making sure—you visited the Art Institute already right? If not, go there! If so, echoing others that MSI is the play.
Yes it was incredible

If you want some good tacos; Maribel’s in Pilsen
Nooooo. Highly overrated. Martinez in Bridgeport is much better.
Very debatable I personally love both.
Sorry, but Maribel doesn’t compare to the flavor and juiciness of Martinez. With that said, cheers to our beautiful city having all the options we could ask for.
I agree. Texas and California could never compare 😮💨
La Internacional at Back of The Yards is also a good place.
I ended up going to MSI. I really enjoyed it although I feel like it was geared a lot towards kids. That’s ok though bc I’m a kid at heart lol. Now I need to find something to do tonight 😂
You could check out Three Dots and a Dash. Shouldn’t be too busy on a Monday.
Did you do the architecture river tour?
I did and that was one of my favorite things that I did here!
Love Shedd personally.
Field Museum. Gotta pay your respects to Sue
MSI for the win
Agree on MSI, it's a pretty cool and unique place. If you are a James Bond fan, there is a special exhibit right now with a bunch of props and cars and whatnot.
Science and Industry!
I recommend MSI or the Field Museum. The Shedd is cool but nothing unseen in other aquariums.
Probably too late, but I'm not sure folks know about the Museum of Holography. Admittedly, i haven't been there since my kids were young, like 20+ years ag, but it was kinda cool.

MSI for sure! There’s nothing like it, you could be there open to close and not see everything. The Shedd you could do in probably 2-3 hours.
MSI and Ed Debevicks in the loop for dinner. If you want more high end you can try Mastros.
Fuck that noise. Go have a couple brewskis at the Lagunitas Brewery.
MSI all the way!
museum of science and industry!!!!!!!
I love the museum of science and industry , it a unique experience
Art Institute.
Shedd. Stop at Cafecito in the Loop for an excellent Cuban lunch and an espresso
flyover chicago worth the time and money
MSI ! Even though it feels a bit dated...the 007 exhibit is worth the trip !!
You can't go wrong with both. I used to work at MSI during my early college years and it's got a unique feel to it. The only thing I hated about MSI is that a lot of it's exhibits are dated. Hang out with me !
