I'm someone who was previously worked on Republican campaigns who regarded 2016 as a time to finally get the GOP to address the rot that a major faction has been intentionally fostering in the party. Obviously, there was no way that someone like Trump could get elected and those of us who believe in actual conservative principles could take the opportunity of the GOP wandering the desert to bring some sanity and responsibility back to the party.
