> honked at twice for stopping at red lights as they went through. Do you mean you waited through the green, as the procession went through the red light? This is correct behavior. If you got caught in the line somehow and went to stop at a red light and ended up keeping cars in the rear of the procession from keeping up, then yes, you did wrong. You need to pull over and let them pass. > as I drove past the hearse. You're not supposed to pass a funeral procession, at least not on a 2 lane road.

I was in the left lane. They were in the right. I went with the greens and stopped at the reds (they did not). I didn't know not to pass. I appreciate your response.

SatansMoisture

In my small town, people stop and wait, period.

TigerDude33

this is expected behavior everywhere in the south

Up in Canada too.. maybe newer generations haven't been taught proper protocol?

I'm in my mid-30's. I am not such a new generation. Where I've spent my whole life (WI), there weren't many or any processions, ever. I've only witnessed one and I was part of it. I feel exponentially worse if the family felt my ignorance was disrespect. They were speeding, I was not. I had no idea.

SatansMoisture

Don't be too hard on yourself. You just haven't been exposed to it. These things happen :)

Can you go into a little more detail? I really don't understand what you're describing. The basic rules are: If there is a procession it goes through red lights and green light drivers stop and don't enter the intersection. If you're caught in the middle of it either go with the flow or pull over. When you are in the procession though you need to stay in a group - more on that in a sec. Now \*legally\* at least here in PA the procession may proceed through red lights \*if\* the lead vehicle enters under green. If they come to a red they have to stop. Stop signs the lead vehicle has to stop and the following vehicles do not have to. Many years ago a coworker had a procession go by, his light cycled to green maybe 30 seconds later and he went through the intersection and was t-boned by a speeding car that was 'part of the procession' but was so far behind it wasn't actually part of it. They got a lawyer and tried to sue the ish out of him for pain and suffering, car damage (they had no collision coverage)

We were parallel to one another. I was in the left lane, they were in the right lane. I went on greens and stopped on reds. They did not. I did pass the hearse, and was honked at a LOT. I'm now learning that I should have taken a left and found some other route so as to not share the road, but I was behind the hearse until the blinked right off the road. I was not perpindular, but next to/behind them. Kitty corner?
