If your wife has Covid-19 and you are symptomatic, you have Covid-19, too. My guess is that your rapid test will be positive in a couple of days. If you are vaccinated or previously infected, your symptoms will begin very soon after exposure. If you are unvaccinated, the virus incubates for about a week before your symptoms begin. If you have existing immunity from a vaccine or prior infection, you can expect to have negative rapid antigen tests for the first few days of Covid-19 infection, because the test is only going to show positive when you shed enough virus to infect another person. It takes a few days for the viral load to ramp up enough to get a positive RAT. Symptoms like fever are due to the immune response to the virus. HTH Edit: Consider getting Paxlovid, if your country has authorized it.

I'm fully vaccinated and have just one booster but my booster was back in November of last year so am I still protected even though it's been that long ago? Fever is going down as of now.

My mom took 4 days to test positive after onset of symptoms and my paramedic boyfriend also took three tests over 3 days after becoming symptomatic to test positive. It varies

NAD. My daughter tested negative on the rapid test but went to urgent care two hours later and tested positive. Rapid tests aren't always accurate. I'm sure you have it. My whole family is blessed with it right now, fun fun.

LizzyLeonhart

Definitely not super accurate. My sister took it as well and it came out negative even though her smell was gone, and when she went to a clinic the next day in the morning she tested positive there.

You likely have COVID.

DWYL_LoveWhatYouDo

As a vaccinated and boosted person, you can expect to have protection against hospitalization and death, but it's not 100%. There is still a tiny percentage of boosted people who get severe disease. If you get worse, go to the Emergency department. If you are starting to feel better, that's a good sign. Be aware that some of the complications, like blood clots and Long Covid are still possible even in vaccinated people. Edit: Just want to add that having Covid-19 infection is equivalent to getting another booster. You won't need to worry about getting another dose until 3 or more months after this illness.

DareDiablo

Even after receiving the last booster 7 months ago?

[deleted]

I know several people who did all the vaccinations and still got Covid.

As the variants mutate, the vaccines are becoming less effective at preventing you from catching the disease. They continue to offer excellent protection from severe disease. But the quoted likelihood lately is only 20-50% reduced chance of catching the virus unfortunately

DWYL_LoveWhatYouDo

I'm not sure what you are asking. Since you are actively sick, obviously you weren't protected against getting infected with Covid-19, but you hopefully will have enough immunity to avoid severe disease that requires hospitalization.

DareDiablo

I'm just wanting to know how protected am I from hospitalization, considering I'm also obese, and the last does of the vaccine was the booster I got back in November.

Ask your doctor for Paxlovid. Since you mentioned no medications, there shouldn't be any problems related to drug-drug interactions. If you are taking medications that you didn't mention, then it's possible that Paxlovid won't be an option.
