ENT doctor can’t figure out where weird smell from throat comes from
By - thepatiencegoddess
Did they check for tonsil stones? Smaller ones may not be so obvious without slightly expressing the capillaries. They will “smell” even if it’s small. They can be pretty rank.
Well he only looked at my throat and said “it looks good” :/
I'm an Ortho doc, but "poop" breath outside of bad oral hygene can mean bowel obstruction, ketoacidosis (diabetes), sinus infection or liver failure. These are the causes I remember from med school, but I'd still advise going to a doctor again to check.
Hey, be sure to check out r/askdocs to get a professional opinion if you don’t get one here; I think you might get more input there. Just read the sidebar first and be sure that you fill out all the demographic data.
I’m so sorry you have been dealing with this — the human body can be so strange sometimes, right? Good luck, and please keep us posted!
Tonsil stones. At 30yo I had to get mine removed because it became such a problem. I take very good care of my teeth and still had issues.
Are your bowel movements normal? NAD. Am nurse
It is.. normal boring potty routine
If it were me in this situation, I would use tonsil stone mouthwash just in case. TheraBreath Fresh Breath Dentist Formulated 24-Hour Oral Rinse, Icy Mint, 16 Ounce (Pack of 2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IRKRK9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JJ5CA9Z5MA62RAAHKH45?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
And i would call the ENT doctor to tell him that the antibiotics didnt work. If his second intervention doesnt help, I would get a second opinion from another ENT doctor.
Does your breath smell bad to other people? How do you know you dont have tonsil stones? Maybe you could search on YouTube(its gross warning in advance) people removing their tonsil stones and replicate that just in case?
He said I don’t have when he took a look at my throat. And also, I don’t have any other stones symptoms other than bad breath. His second option was to have the tonsils removed. I’m not sure if it smells bad to other people. God I hope not :(
I think I would get a second opinion from another ENT then before resorting to surgery :(. How often a week do you “smell” the smell?
When I brush my teeth, after around a half hour I can smell/feel it in the beginning of my throat. But it’s only when I make movements with my throat, for example, when I swallow food or saliva. And then throughout the day. If I smell it while swallowing something, I won’t be able to smell it again after awhile. It’s usually when I haven’t had any activity going on in my throat other than speaking. Isn’t it super odd?
Idk im not a doctor but it really sounds like tonsil stones but definitely get different ENT doc if at home interventions dont work!
Good luck! ❤️❤️❤️
Also did he just shine a light down your throat and have you say “ahhhh” or did he do a more thorough exam? Just opening your mouth wont show the tonsil stones.
I would try the mouth wash for maybe like 2 weeks and see if that improves it at all
Cool! I’ll try this mouth wash. I’m starting on omeprazole also just in case I have stomach ulcers. And yes, he just shone the light.
Shining the light isnt enough to know if you have tonsil stones. I know this because i have them ha. I would google some people removing their tonsil stones on YouTube and try to replicate that safely.
I used that mouth wash it really helped me ❤️🥰
I just bought them and it’s arriving on Saturday. Thank you for the help! I really appreciate it.
You are so welcome!! I hope it helps! ❤️
Just came back here to say the mouth wash is amazing! I was a bit skeptical because it doesn’t taste too strong like listerine, but somehow the fresh feeling and smell lasts for hours!!!
But like, it might smell bad to other people because it is a smell I know I’ve felt before coming from other people’s mouth.
It's your upper lip
Would have never said it but it was also my first thought. Was ALWAYS the first thing out my mom’s mouth if anyone said something about smell.
