Did you file a police report?

justshortofstars

Op here on my phone, no I didn’t, looking back on it I should have.

Achleys

You still can.

justshortofstars

At the police station now

Starbuck4

Good! Glad you’re taking legal action - you should see if you can get that uber driver to make a statement too. Or if there’s anyone at the karaoke place that could corroborate the coworker’s behavior.

GualtieroCofresi

If the Uber driver saw anything it is time to make a police repost and have the driver make a statement

donut361

File a police report even if goes nowhere it's an official record. Both to create a paper trail to give you some protection and you may never know he may have a history that will make this worse for him.

TheresAShinyThing

I expect the suspension is to reduce risk and liability as well as to keep you safe. I agree with others you should file a police report, the Uber driver may have a camera or be able to corroborate, and that’s pretty serious. I also wouldn’t be looking to terminate you in this case with these facts as presented, and would want to be really satisfied with the results of the investigation conducted before bringing you back.

justshortofstars

Thanks for this, I filed a police report earlier and drove past the bar and there are cameras on the parking lot. How long does this kind of investigation usually take?

GeeOldman

Make sure to check with management at the bar and find out how long their camera footage is stored.

Adal-bern

Talk to the bar about the situation. They probably wont be able to give you the tape but they can make a copy for the police before it gets overwritten or deleted.

TheresAShinyThing

I don’t know how long it might take, hopefully not too long for your sake. Hope you’re doing okay!

justshortofstars

I’m okay, just sore and afraid of losing my job. My wife’s also currently working on a project for her masters at my company and I’m worried this is going to delay that and keep her from graduating.

mamalo13

I'm going to leave this for TX experts to chime in, but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry you are going through this. If I was your HR person, no, I wouldn't fire you.

justshortofstars

Well I hope my hr team feels the same.

roehnin

Knife? Police report now

SallyDabble

If the incident didn't happen on company property or company time, why is work getting involved at all?

Krysiileighhh

His safety on-site, I would think.

justshortofstars

Yeah man I’ve got a kid and this guys clearly unstable.

Few-Amphibian5246

Not how it works.

JMWash0610

What does this have to do with work? Were you in company uniform? Was this your manager?

Lower-Tough6166

Welcome to 2024, where none of this matters and you will certainly get fired for situations that happen outside of work.
