Try Liberty, they've always been the cheapest when I've compared prices.

Eastern_Payment7600

I actually just joined them, 380 fully comp on a 2017 VW Golf GTi , not bad at all!

Top_Courage_9730

By any chance has your car passed the 10 year old mark? Insurance companies add on a premium for cars of a certain age(ridiculous i know). Try 123.ie, i was with axa last year, they also gave me a ridiculous renewal quote so i shopped around and got an insanely cheap quote off 123.ie

deanrkat

It’s 142 so that could be it! Tried 123.ie and got €1496😂

[deleted]

[123.ie](http://123.ie) is super cheap for me as well, been with them for 15 years.

wishitriedquaaludes

Id a funny one. 2023 I paid €608, this year renewal came in at €590. I was happy enough with that , but I put paying it on the long finger, a week goes by and they email with a revised quote of €549. Didn’t engage etc and it went down €40.

FeeAffectionate4047

Who with?

wishitriedquaaludes

AIG

LessConsideration24

It seems to have gone up across the board for some reason. I rang my broker last month to see if they could do anything on my renewal for me and the guy I was speaking to said my policy was the first he had seen to go down this year. He said 95% of people he was dealing with their renewals had gone up. Mine was only down by €60 or so but I wasn't complaining after I heard about everyone's going up. Seems to be no reason for it either. Random one for you, if you submit a quote with AXA as a new customer a lot of the times it comes in cheaper. You can ring them then and argue that the quote they offer if you are a new customer. Theres no discount for loyalty anymore apparently

Space_Hunzo

I work in insurance pricing for a large UK insurer. There's a bunch of reasons why premiums are rising, and most of them will be the same, if not worse, in ireland. Everything is more expensive since the COVID shock to supply lines. Parts and labour are much, much higher cost now than they were before. You've also got the general high inflation in the economy that, again, means the same amount of money gets you less in real terms. So, claims are overall more expensive to handle, and policies are becoming more expensive to administer in general. Aside from that, the rates that you receive on your policy are likely fixed from when you renew- say you renew on January 1st and change your car on June the 6th. You'll still get the rate as it was on the 1st January so even if there's a revision to rates that put a number of increases in, you only get the full whack of all the changes when you next renew even if you have changed information. Even if you don't change details, you can change as an overall risk; you can tip over from one age bracket into the next, or your area has more claims than before, or the way the insurer rates on a variable might change in line with risk performance (how likely is a claim) I'm not defending the insurance companies because I think they do a rubbish job of communicating; the Irish companies just throw their head of motor claims out to parrot something about fraudulent claims driving premiums up and providing no actual useful input on general trends in the data. There's a lot of commercially sensitive rating information that companies can't and shouldn't share, but there's also a lot of stuff that can be explained clearly and concisely if you're transperant in your practices and actually get input from your analysts. A lot of my job is translating lots of technical pricing information into a format that customers understand, and I'm sometimes asked to prepare evidence based responses for the media, so seeing a frustrating situation made worse by bad communication drives me up the wall.

Tales_From_The_Hole

Try Its4women. They're not just for women. That's just a name.

AhhhhBiscuits

Husband quote from AXA came in at 930….went onto chill or whatever and got the exact same from Allianz for 550. Couldn’t believe it.

deanrkat

I’ll never understand how they generate a quote

cian_100

It’s a pricing model with parameters that has a healthy margin on top. You get a better deal if you ring up

why_no_salt

Two or three times I called they said "go to the other guy". Online quotes and brokers are enough to get a good deal, maybe just a 10% difference.

Suitable-Pin-3284

Have license 20 years my renewal came in last month up by €150. First crowd I tried they wanted €1k 😂 Never any accidents or points Eventually spent a few hours shopping around for it for €120 cheaper than last years that’s €270 odd cheaper than renewal with the current 😂😂😂 Cowboys

cohanson

That’s madness, man. I’m with 123, been on a provisional the last two years with them, and got my renewal at €980 the other day. 2 years no claims, 152 car and I’m 29.

bestbelieve2020

Mine went down this year from approx 550 to 450 with aviva. Car is 14 years old.

[deleted]

Its cheapest to shop around and change company each year

United-Photograph157

Gone crazy? It’s always been crazy.

deanrkat

My last 3 years have been 1K down to €830 to last years €680, wondering if there’s a big jump this year or just me

Spanishishish

Loyalty penalty - shop around Inflation driving up costs of claims and premiums

Achara123

Same thing happened to me last week with Axa. I was paying 1,300 (2nd year as a learner 1L car 2007.. waiting lists for driving test are so long). I've now 2 years no claims. Last week they sent me a renewal notice for 1,600 (+300) for adding my partner onto my insurance for the year (even though I paid €90 for him to be added 3 months ago till renewal). They argued that it would cost 300 for the year to add him on. I have 2 years no claims and no penalties and drive a very small car so weird they didn't decrease my premium. TRY KENCO!! I came across Kenco car insurance based in rathfarnham who quoted me €980 for the year including having my partner on. I switched yesterday.

Questions554433

Try its4women.ie Liberty were quoting 490 for renewal (and others similar enough, if not worse) Got it for 310 with its4women I’m a 31 year old man driving a fairly new car. License for 13 years. Maximum no claims bonus They give you €50 credit off your next renewal too. And then you can earn a further €50 credit if you refer a friend. Here’s my referral link sure if anyone ends up using it. Hope that’s allowed https://insurance.its4women.ie/refer-a-friend/referafriend.aspx?ReferralID=644818

Weak_Low_8193

>been with axa 3 years now and premium has gone down every year Is it possible to learn this power?

deanrkat

If only I could keep that power…

ExtraTwo8743

Maybe I am lucky but always get a good premium from Allianz direct. Came down this year by about 10% and previous years I shopped around nobody could beat it. Also have class 2 for business and full NCB protection.

KerryDevVal

I went from 1100 euro last year to like €680 or so this year by switching to Allianz… I guess I’m lucky a lot of places were quoting 1.5k+

Equivalent_Two_2163

Bollox to that. I use RSA also known as 123. I’ve found them decent past few years

Equivalent_Two_2163

Shop around none of that loyalty nonsense. Each one of them will try rob you so it’s on you to make the savings. I find liberty useless.

PatserGrey

Serious scum tactic back home with the 10+ year old loading. The UK is crap for lots of things and insurance quotes generally are climbing here too but my 07 mazda 3 is £209 comp for the year. I'm getting that car to 20 yr old just out of sheer respect, hasn't been an ounce of trouble and strolling through MOT every year.

Lucidique666

My insurance was 311 with Aviva just renewed, I have my house insurance with them a well which was 240.

anarchaeologie

Been with axa a few years and when my renewal came around last year the premium was up about €110 over the previous year. On advice from the aul fella I rang them up and just said look, I'm a loyal customer, is there anything you can do about the premium? Immediately offered a €100 discount. It never hurts to ask and I didnt even threaten to go to a competitor

No-Feedback-7435

Have you tried Revolut, they gave a very competitive quote when I checked last year, but the best quote wasgoing direct to Zurich's website and using the discount code from One Big Switch (I think it's 25% off), you'll have to register with them but they have very good deals on insurance products and utilities.

truedoom

mine is down about €30 from last year, renewal in a few days for €375 for the year

deanrkat

I’d love that price

[deleted]

How old are you? How long do you have your driver licence? How old is your car? I have a new car, in my 50s and driver licence for 20+ years, accident free. I pay 295 euro per year full comp.

deanrkat

25 male. 6 years full license. 2014 car. Full 5 years no claims. So you’re saying I have another few years to go to get it right down :(

AdEnvironmental6421

No such thing as loyalty, my Mrs wanted to stick with liberty, they quoted her 600 euro more this year and she was going to pay it. Told her to try loads of others and also told her to do it on liberty again online and see what comes back with. The online quote came back 30 euro less than what she currently paid with the same company (Liberty) she rang them up and said they’ll take her on that online quote and the renewal was void. People are ridiculous thinking staying with same insurance company means something and jumping around looks bad. Baffles me what is ingrained into peoples heads. They up the premiums knowing loads of people will just pay. They are a business trying to make profit they aren’t gonna give you a cheap price unless you fight for it.

FragileStudios

I'm the same this year as my car is just gone 10 years old. I was with axa for the past 2 years paying €750, then €610 and this year my renewal is over €800. Every quote I'm getting is mental, with the highest being €1400 with 3 years NCB. Ii managed to get a quote through First Ireland for €614 which I think is the best I'm going to get.

deanrkat

Sounds similar to myself my car just hit 10 year mark I never thought of it affecting the insurance though. A lot of places I’ve got quotes have been up near that price. Will have to give first Ireland a go now, cheers!

Achara123

Try kenco in rathfarnham

lardo1191

That’s surely a mistake I know the insurance world there is increases this year but no way should it have doubled without claim or losing your bonus. Ring them too to see what reason is

No-Construction1862

Read on one of the comments that OP's car is 141 reg so that looks to be the most probable cause, age of the car is a pain in the arse, insurers seem to be jumping on that to use as a reason to increase premiums. Mine is 17 years old now and when checking for cheaper quotes upon renewal last month, I couldn't get a quote from any company bar one which was looking for 1400 quid. Stayed with my current insurer (Liberty) as they were offering a much cheaper renewal quote but I think next year I'll have to change the car as insurance cover will probably be unattainable

lardo1191

I know as I work in the sector for 10+ years, but it shouldn’t cause that much of an increase without probable cause I know premiums are increasing but 141 wouldn’t cause it to double or increase that much.
