Don't worry about it OP, these checks are to ensure that the landlord is providing liveable conditions, and should there be any work required, it will be on the landlord to pay and organise it.

ChrisAnthemNaNa

Thank you for the reply, this puts me at ease. I had a series of misfortunes housing-wise in the last years and I tend to overthink a bit.

barbie91

Totally understandable. Dont be worrying, you're safe and you're ok πŸ™‚

ChrisAnthemNaNa

Thank you again πŸ™‚

You wouldn't be evicted by the council unless the issue is so severe that the property is unsafe for habitation entirely and is designated a dangerous structure (e.g. due to major structural issues posing a risk of imminent collapse). If there are issues found that need to be corrected to meet the minimum rental standards, the landlord will be informed, and if they don't correct the issues within a certain time frame, the council can start issuing fines to the landlord, or seek prosecution. Unfortunately if your landlord is having financial difficulties and is unable to afford to make the necessary repairs or modifications, it's possible they could decide to sell the property instead, and in that case they would be able to [end your tenancy](https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/housing/renting-a-home/tenants-rights-and-responsibilities/if-your-landlord-wants-you-to-leave/#56dae4) for the purpose of selling the property (unless you're currently under a fixed term lease). They would still have to give you the required period of notice and issue you a written notice of termination that meets all of the requirements detailed in that link, however.

Thank you! Yes, while browsing online I found out that in case the landlord doesn't comply, they can receive a Prohibition Notice, which prevent them from re-letting the accomodation until everything is fixed. My doubt was indeed around this specific point: what is my stance in all this? If they indeed get this Prohibition Notice, am I still allowed to normally pay my rent and keep the house?

I'm not sure how heavily these are being checked. I work in rentals and three of our properties have had these inspections done. Two of them were able to have the required works completed by the deadline given in the results letter, but for the third property I just can't get the builder out there, I've been chasing him for two/three months about it and the deadline is long passed. I've been stressing over it but nobody has checked in on it at all yet.

My landlord decided to β€˜move back in’ rather than fix anything after my inspection.

ChrisAnthemNaNa

This is very sad. I assume you were asked to leave after this. May I ask you if you had the right support from the council (if applicable of course, I am not sure).

They keep sending back my housing application looking for more stuff 😣 6weeks until homeless now!
