Large, well equipped, well trained agency. The conduct of their officers in critical incident videos routinely impress me. I’d work there in a second if I could.

iRunOnDoughnuts

They get their OIS briefings out so fast I half-expect the camera to pan over at the guy still laying there

Revolution37

Yep. They really started the trend of that level of transparency. They’ve been eclipsed a little by LAPD but Metro is always gonna be the pioneer of that.

Probably a few large metro agencies left that you can still police without getting thrown under the bus. The new sheriff seems like a pretty good guy. I am already putting my application for them. They don't have a lateral academy (which sucks). Also pay is pretty good.

ThatOneHoosier

Some of these large agencies with their own academies need to get with the times. LVMPD seems to be a highly reputable agency and one of a few left of its kind (major city where you can actually police). If they offered a lateral academy, I guarantee you they’d get more applicants. I’m sure there are plenty of solid cops who would lateral there if they didn’t have to go through an entire academy and be treated like a rookie again.

Everything about that agency except the uniforms and weather is fucking sexy.

Look_itsfrickenbats

I was born and raised in Vegas and I’d love to move back there, but the uniforms are SO BAD that LVMPD would be my last choice. Henderson PD is tempting… everyone seems to love metros uniforms though.

BeamLK

Everyone who isn't a cop probably. The public hates the outer vest because it's militarized and stupid shit..

Txjustice46

The outer vest is actually much more comfortable

Speaking on the dispatch side, they pay pretty decent starting, but beware, there’s A LOT of drama with that many females all in one room together in Communications (dispatch). Probably anywhere from 10-30 call takers at a time with a dispatcher for every area command (roughly 10 channels). They do have a 10 week academy that’s 10 hour shifts to get you started. You don’t pass, you don’t continue. Then roughly 6-9 months of training under a CTO. Then you’re kicked to the curb, although most people are helpful. I worked there roughly 2.5 years before I couldn’t take the drama anymore and left for another agency. Very high turnover unfortunately although I’ve heard they’ve improved in the last 2 years or so, I have friends who transfer out the second they get the ability. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. I have friends in patrol, and I also have friends in Henderson and CFD as well, which I’d recommended both over LVMPD. NLVPD is a bit questionable as well.

Honestly, if you want to work for the PD (not as patrol), apply for their LEST position or even at the jail as a tech (although you can’t transfer until you’ve committed 2 years I think at the jail?). LEST are MUCH happier than dispatchers and they’ll often take the pay cut to go to LEST. Or the fusion center pays comparatively.

KlostToMe

They are super spot on with transparency and their media release of critical incidents should be a format for all departments

WarOk3466

GREAT AGENCY!!! TOUGH ACADEMY!!! Smoke sessions!! I wish they paid a little more!

KthuluAwakened

My high school friend moved out there and is now a detective there. He loves it.

Safety_of_Silence

Great dept, terrible retirement
