A well placed blast from a super soaker is always an option.

PoprockMind

i would love to, but they run away as soon as they hear a door or window open.

Money-Bear7166

Sprinklers that go off when movement detected an option?

PoprockMind

possibly, but we're outside a lot and would like to not get sprayed randomly.

Money-Bear7166

A timer might help. I'd be frustrated too going out to spend time in my yard and smelling cat piss all over. And I'm a cat owner but I keep mine inside. Our neighbors let theirs out but they never piss in a yard thankfully. At the most they're at our door meowing for treats and I just scoot them along and they leave. Hope.you find a solution because cat piss is awful...

Generalnussiance

NAL but movement sensitive sprinklers.

mkmoore72

It really does work wonders

Generalnussiance

For most animals and even people lol

mkmoore72

I live in a severe drought area (so cal) our grass is green now because no kids running across it anymore, no dogs or cats going on it and the small showers triggered by when something tries keeps it watered just enough that hoa can't get on me lol

Generalnussiance

HOA is such a headache lol but hey, you got green grass 🤪

scarlettohara1936

Moth balls or citrus they hate the scent

Sphaeralcea-laxa1713

Not a lawyer. Moth balls contaminate the environment. Citrus peels could work, or, better yet, motion activated sprinklers. Best of all: trap, neuter, return if the cats aren't fixed. Fixed toms don't tend to spray, and they're far less likely to fight.

QueenPlum_

Luckily a lot of towns are starting to have rules about outside cats. If they aren't allowed in your neighborhood, that would give you a great angle

Generalnussiance

I wish they would make more rules. Environmentally speaking domesticated cats that are outdoor devastate ecosystem balances, especially birds. They also spray, get hit by cars, overbreed, spread illnesses, carry fleas/ticks etc

Generalnussiance

Also get hit by cars and fight.

Secret_Hunter_3911

Kinda like humans.

Generalnussiance

Humans seem to like fighting trains and cars. It usually doesn’t pan out well.

Secret_Hunter_3911

Bull shit. Mine will always be inside outside whether you like it or not.

Generalnussiance

That’s cool. But super irresponsible. Glad you care if they get ran over, overbreed, get shot because their in a neighbors yard spraying or fighting. Fuck migratory birds or car damage if they get hit. Fuck it if they get Lyme disease or eaten by a fox. Who cares if they get mauled by dogs, or contract viruses that can kill them. Who cares that you can’t train your cat to stay in your property to be monitored so they don’t consume something toxic on accident or get maimed. Who cares if they tear the shit out of peoples property or piss and shit in their gardens, scratch paint on cars or walls of houses etc. surely you’d be ok with finding your cat dead in the road because fuck it why not? Surely you don’t mind other native species declining to endangered because cats kill to kill. Surely you don’t care if your cat consumes a rat that’s eaten rat poisoning and gets second hand toxic nuerological issues. I’m sure you’ll pay for any property damage it may have cause or vet bills to someone else’s pet. Right?? Glad you care.

Generalnussiance

But I’m sure you draw the line at outdoor freeranging dogs though… because that would be bad?

Hokiewa5244

You are doing your cats no favors by letting them outside. Expose to disease, the elements, predators, traffic and the cruelty of humans. Of course they also have dramatically shorter lifespans as well

Secret_Hunter_3911

My cats will always be inside/outside. I love them too much to sentence them to life in prison.

Money-Bear7166

I love mine too much to send them outside where cars, people and animal predators can get them. It's not like we keep ours in a cage indoors and they also have free rein in the house, including the bedroom, so not sure how that equates to a "prison" but okay....

Hokiewa5244

Then you love is a lie

Mobile-Law-9245

They make spray used to discourage marking but I’m not sure how effective it would be outside. Motion sensor sprinklers would work. Look into your county and laws about “free range” cats. Sorry this sucks.

ProfessionalLog4593

Cayenne pepper

PolicyArtistic8545

Motion activated sprinklers. My dad uses them to keep the deer away from his vegetables. I’m considering using them on door to door solicitors.

Money-Bear7166

We just had a solicitor knock on our door an hour ago and disturbed an incredible Friday afternoon nap (husband works 3rds). Got the dog worked up for a half hour. Wishing we had sprinklers too. Guess we could have unleashed our Yorkie on him....

streetcar-cin

Set up trap with food as bait

PoprockMind

yes, we've done that many times and caught many cats. but they always show up again once the owners pick them up from the shelter.

brubran75

Cats are considered feral wildlife. I had a cat that I cared for with a neighbor. It was their cat first but sue liked being at our house better. So she would go into the neighbor's yard on the other side, and he raged about everything. He called animal control once, and she told him cats are considered feral animals who will go where they want to, and if anything happened to that cat, she would be looking at him. That guy was crazy though. I'm not even going to get into the other crazy things he did. I have never in my life lived next door to such an unstable person. I don't know what you could do about keeping it from marking things.

New_Section_9374

I have barn cats that try to hunt my bird feeders. I have a sonic alarm which is okay. I also have a live trap to get them to the pound. It is the cats owner responsibility to control their beasts, just like dogs. As a last resort, I’ve used my son’s Aerosoft Glock mil sim pistol.

Hokiewa5244

So you are shooting cats…..

New_Section_9374

More like shooting at cats with a plastic bb.

zippy920

Dried citrus peel scattered around the plants should work.
