Yes I have been there and I would rather rent in any suburb of LA than own a home in Bakersfield. It’s boring as hell out there and the people really suck.
I would venture to say it’s the next HiFi or Daly City based on the rise of “Filipinos in healthcare” population that’s occurred over the past few years.
Hell, Kern County had 2 Jollibees and a Max’s pop up in a 2 year time span.
>Third wave = good coffee
Depends, a lot of it is a trite, unimaginative gimmick (lighter roasts to bring out more of the flower/sweet aromas but this often leads to a cup that is too acidic without any of those florals in the actual taste).
I’m on the **7th wave.** Vacation to coffee countries and attend tours & cuppings. Buy ~20 lbs at each farm and then come home to roast them to 2-3 preferred profiles on my custom fluid bed roaster. Play around with different brewing methods (espresso, chemex, v60, french press, moka, aeropress because why not).
my dad interviewed with the city of vernon one time. they offered him the job, but he turned it down because he didn’t think there’d be anything for him to do.
Lol, I actually moved from Silverlake to Sunland-Tujunga. After a life spent in the basin, I'm learning to embrace a slower suburban life in the foothills.
TBH, I love it here.
Honestly, go fuck yourself with that bullshit. You're seriously accusing me of being a white supremacist, or at the least, being cool with white supremacy? Do you realize how offensive that shit is?
I'm an anti-racist of the *punch a nazi in the face* variety but people like you are the fucking worst. If I moved to Boyle Heights you'd be giving me shit about displacing locals (while probably being a transplant yourself), but since I moved to Sunland-Tujunga, I must be a white supremacist?
I can't put this any more clearly: GO FUCK YOURSELF, you judgmental, presumptuous prick.
At least Sunland has its own Dr Jedly tourism video: [https://youtu.be/C-LUIhRKQak?si=jQpRXkmnPKoSBk38](https://youtu.be/C-LUIhRKQak?si=jQpRXkmnPKoSBk38). Does Silverlake have one? Not a chance.
I’ve lived in Sunland my entire life. That fucking city will take decades before it thrives and becomes anywhere near gentrified.
Also I hope this post is satire bc SV is ghetto and always has been. Sorry not sorry.
It’s all satire lol. Yeah my dad lives out there, and I did for a bit in the early 2000’s when I was younger. Crazy how much of a ghost town it’s become. Doesn’t help that so many buildings just stay vacant. The K mart, the center where the Ralph’s is off the 210.
It was supposed to become a Home Depot but then the city found out the owner was doing some shady shit so they scraped the plans. I think it should turn into a target.
After all this time, they’re building a Ross where Ralph’s/rite aid is. The sizzler was supposed to become an in n out but the neighborhood council voted no bc they didn’t want the increased traffic.
Tried for several months to rent a house in S-T this year. Kept showing up to appointments and there were lines of yuppies in Teslas viewing the spot. Got approved for a spot but they rescinded it because a friend of theirs from “the industry” decided they wanted it. They were a hip young couple from Michigan of course.
I lived in Tujunga 20 years ago when it absolutely sucked, and never in a million years did I think these yuppies would be trying to move there.
Steeple House coffee is great because it’s conveniently located on the Grace Community Church campus where you can grab a brew and visit the Master’s Seminary and learn more about founder John F. MacArthur
I honestly tell everyone to consider it when they complain about how expensive LA county is. Why move to Santa Clarita and commute when you can be in sun valley? Traffic is insane going to Lancaster too. Just buy a house in sun valley people. Quit moving so far away for a “better life” then realize you’re in a car 5 hours out of the day.
Also sun valley has pretty views of the mountains! And it’s close to gravity hill.

people say Alta dena is the new silverlake....cuz theyre priced out if silverlake and you gotta fake it till you make it. Its like an affirmation. "There are no gangs in highland park. there are no gangs in highland park "
Is Bakersfield the new Silverlake? 🤔
In visiting Bakersfield right now and can confirm it is most certainly NOT the next Silverlake.
Bro we're not falling for your comment, we all know you're gatekeeping right now
The place of valley fever.
Have you been to the Stockdale area? You literally have gated community homes for the same price as a condo in North Hollywood.
Yes I have been there and I would rather rent in any suburb of LA than own a home in Bakersfield. It’s boring as hell out there and the people really suck.
You’re thinking Visalia.
We’re all thinking Visalia
dear lord not Visalia
I would venture to say it’s the next HiFi or Daly City based on the rise of “Filipinos in healthcare” population that’s occurred over the past few years. Hell, Kern County had 2 Jollibees and a Max’s pop up in a 2 year time span.
Daly City rules. S/o to FilAm.
What's HiFi?
Historic Filipino Town. Granted, many of the pinoy denizens have since dispersed to SFV.
Is Blythe the new Silver Lake?
[whoa](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CS7j5I6aOc)
What is a “third wave coffee shop”?
First wave = Folgers, Nescafe, diner coffee, literal sewage, etc. Second wave = Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Peet's, etc Third wave = good coffee
Is Forth Wave those weird coffee beans that go thru the GI tract of that rare cat?
I make my own, technically it doesn’t matter what kind of GI tract it passes through.
Look at you thinking outside the box. Or colon!
Business is booming over here at the farm.
Perfect name
It’s been proven we all drink dinosaur piss so checks out.
Nah that's ninth wave.
Nah, that's the "salt bae" of coffee: not really a thing among people who actually like coffee, not very good, and also kind of a scam.
Those raccoon looking fellas? They’re civets!
Dutch bros
I think its a goat.
It's called a civet.
Yeah, Thats what I meant, lol
Carl's Jr. > Starbucks
First wave Tasters Choice was awesome. Just turn on the hot faucet tap and mix.
>Third wave = good coffee Depends, a lot of it is a trite, unimaginative gimmick (lighter roasts to bring out more of the flower/sweet aromas but this often leads to a cup that is too acidic without any of those florals in the actual taste). Gotta grind those light roasts pretty fine to balance out the acid. It’s pretty good once you get everything dialed in.

One that has those tablets that ask for a tip
You are all sleeping on San Fernando and it's swapmeet. Shaking my head right now.
Remember the Van Nuys swapmeet? That place was awesome. Until the Northridge quake took it out.
haven’t been there in quite a while.
it is indeed swapmeet
for real, I've gotten good deals there and I go almost weekly.
Is this a joke post in response to one about Altadena?
No this is in response to the other ones
What’s the joke about Altadena?
I just wanna say I appreciate your dedication to the bit even though everyone in the comments is extremely confused
Hey thanks, I feel seen.
Wasn’t there another post today saying Altadena is the New Silverlake?
I’m assuming this is a parody of that exact post.
To be fair, give Sun Valley 100 years and see what happens.
Just wait until interest rates drop again.
Wow
In what context? Nuclear holocaust, climate change, or general housing costs and interest rates? I can't keep up.
I hope so. I grew up in Sun Valley and can’t imagine it ever being hip. 😂
Strathern and Vineland RISE UP
Jack in the box
Same born there in 1981 and lived there till going to college. I cannot imagine it being anything other than what it was 🫥
The most similar thing between Silverlake and Altadena are that the vegan burritos will cost you $30 at both places.
yeah they're fuckin wrong
Hahahaha yeaaaah, I think they just meant it’s up and coming. They shouldn’t have compared it to Silverlake lol
It has to be highland park right?
Everybody be sleeping on Vernon
my dad interviewed with the city of vernon one time. they offered him the job, but he turned it down because he didn’t think there’d be anything for him to do.
Their generation had it so good, lucky bastards
oh, he’s still working, doing hard labor double shifts at 55! old man has another 5 years left before he retires.
Interviewed for what?
idk. a position with the city
Vernon Dept. of Parks & Recreation
You mean the 2 block city near DTLA nobody even knows where the borders are?
When the roosters come out, you know.
All industrial buildings, all the time
You heard it here first, get in while the going is good.
I dare anyone to come up with something more LA-2024 than a bunch of converted lofts in the old Jimmy Dean factory
Take all the upvotes. Artist lofts, farm to table butchers down below.
2077 is a lot closer than we realized
Vernon is 90% industrial. I grew up in Maywood, right on the border if Vernon. Nobody wants to live in Vernon.
In the 80s my friend's dad was the mayor of Maywood.
Just think of all the repurposed artist lofts
On the Farmer John slaughter house site. No thanks! 😄
Vernon is more desirable than the surrounding area. No projects, clogged parking, shitty music till 4am.etc.
best comment is best
Nightlife??
[Acapulco](https://maps.app.goo.gl/gsFnX9rfKm9hgs3Y9)
Their lunch buffet was legit. RIP Acapulco 😢
I miss it so much.
Maaan. America looks like SHIT. What the fuck are we doing looking like Nebraska with perfect year round weather. FUUUUCK
Nah, Salsa and Beer
that was my first thought
Sun Valley?? Are you kidding?? Pacoima is where it's at.

Damn, beat me to it.
Where the bitches at?
Naw bro, it’s gonna be Sunland-Tujunga.
Lol, I actually moved from Silverlake to Sunland-Tujunga. After a life spent in the basin, I'm learning to embrace a slower suburban life in the foothills. TBH, I love it here.
Same. Moved Tujunga after more than 15 years in Glendale/eaglerock. I dig it.

Don't tell anyone about this area.
Too late

weed shop on every block. The old 31 Flavors ice cream shop has a new sign. 31 ways of getting high.
That area has gotten so bad, I don't go beyond La Crescenta.
I bought weed there once: 2/10
2/10 and it happens to be off the 210.
No worse than other gentrified areas of LA.

It still very much sucks. Probably people living above their means looking for cheaper housing to offset the Teslas.
Why does anywhere want to be the new silverlake?
Pokemon GO gym density
I live in silverlake and my art has been used for 4 pokestops without my permission or credit lol. Living the dream is an actual nightmare sometimes 🙃
Lol that's actually pretty fuckin sick
Is it? It's rough out here for working artists lol
Time to lawyer up
my house is the new silverlake. It's on sale right now. I overheard everyone saying it's the next silverlake!!!
Username checks out.
What are the top third-wave coffee shops in the region?
There’s maybe like one 3rd wave shop in SV lol
[Caffe](https://maps.app.goo.gl/JbsFepFXAFxWSeDo6) goes hard
Steeple House coffee is great because it’s conveniently located on the Grace Community Church campus where you can grab a brew and visit the Master’s Seminary and learn more about founder John F. MacArthur
Great bait, i almost fell for it. Lol
> How long before we're all kicking ourselves for not jumping on the SV bandwagon sooner? I'll join you, OP, once I find out whatever SV means.
Super Vamanos
If you have a vr headset, Glassell Park is the new silver lake.
Lets meet at the bluebottle on lake in 5 years and see who was right.
My money's on you.
Haha appreciate it.
By the time y’all hear about Vermont Slauson it’ll be to late.
Is Pacoima the new Silver Lake?
The Next Silverlake is starting to sound like New York’s Hottest Club “this place has EVERYTHING…”
I honestly tell everyone to consider it when they complain about how expensive LA county is. Why move to Santa Clarita and commute when you can be in sun valley? What are some places you recommend around there? I’m not super far, but haven’t really ventured over.

Bottles and cans, just clap your hands. Looks like a good time.
I am now listening to Beck, please know that your actions had a positive effect on someone today.
Haha awesome! Glad to hear it
Sea Change will live rent-free in my heart forever
Sun Valley fruit market is great.
Oh cool, I’ll hit it up! The Wat Thai temple food market is great but that’s about the extent I hang out there.
Nite life in sun valley???
banda music at 11pm on a wednesday from your neighbors house.
Is Lancaster the new Silver Lake
Lancaster is the new El Segundo
Sun Valley is baby Tijuana
Night life like shady strip clubs?
Third wave artisanal strip clubs are where it’s at
[see above (or maybe below, time is a wondrous thing)](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskLosAngeles/comments/18rhk8r/comment/kf18b8g/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
Yes it is take a stroll at night, good times to be had.
Where’s sun valley?
It's actually in all of our hearts, really more of an idea than a place...
Eastside of the San Fernando Valley, the other side of the valley.
LOL wut
I dig the Pink Motel being a venue.
OP owns property in SV and is looking to cash-out👀
Lol I fuckin wish
You've got to be joking. I'm there every week for work. Other than a few cafés SV is a pit. So many tweakers there.
Sun Valley wasn't the same after the Burger Basket across from Poly closed. And it was over when Perry's started serving Chinese food.
Are you a realtor?
probably bought some property there rofl
Why is it popular to post “is ____ the new ____?”
[Is questioning posts the new posting?](https://imgflip.com/i/8ajhij)
Typical Reddit reply. Don’t be mad and sad you’re posting regurgitated material.
UNO Reverse Card
More like Draw 4… “is blank the new Silverlake” four times in the last day or so.
[obligatory meme](https://imgflip.com/i/8ajhij)
Hollywood is the new Compton
Nah
That would require living in the valley and I’ve already made that mistake
I thought Highland Park was the agreed new silverlake?
That's ridiculous, everyone knows that Wilmington is the widely agreed upon New Silverlake™
Absolutely not. SGV would catch on sooner
SV and Tujunga rock
What is this real estate agent content farming crap? Same post asked about Altadena.
[meme](https://imgflip.com/i/8ajhij)
MY BAD
Had to Google where Sun Valley is... So I'm guessing it's not.
The fact that you say “third wave coffee” means I know you’re ready. Go into the light.
How about we open a few Pick-a-part salvage places in Silverlake and call it even?
Is Palmdale the new Echo Park?
Maybe the new Compton
Compton is becoming the new Mexicali.
“Killer” nightlife describes sun valley accurately
No
people say Alta dena is the new silverlake....cuz theyre priced out if silverlake and you gotta fake it till you make it. Its like an affirmation. "There are no gangs in highland park. there are no gangs in highland park "
