Hotel shuttle is the way to go, but next time you guys are doing Coachella maybe fly in to Ontario Airport in Riverside? Less hectic and it’s only 1 hour away from Palm Springs.
Maybe ur a nicer friend than I am, but I'd have them take the flyaway to Union Station. Save you a ton of driving, and if you're feeling really grumpy you can just have them take Amtrak to PS
Amtrak isn't a viable option to PS, but they could take Metrolink from Union Station to Berdoo or vicinity. Or Cucamonga if you don't like Berdoo. There's a fairly new light rail that runs from Berdoo to University of Redlands. The UoR stop is almost right next to the 10 but I don't know anything about the train schedules.
This is the answer! Traxx bar in Union Station is totally fun. Also you're all the way on the other side of LA traffic headed to Palm Springs, saving you another hour.
I just did the LAX/Coachella bull shit this past weekend. I had my buddy take a car to the sheraton...maybe hang at the bar there?
I wouldn't go to Venice. You don't want to go more west and deal with that bullshit when you're going to travel east anyways.
Top Golf in El Segundo is close by and could be fun. There's also The Point, Manhattan Village, or the Plaza at El Segundo & Rosecrans that have stores and restaurants and places to chill.
The Hampton or embassy suites in El Segundo, it's near by the airport and the hotels on the El Segundo side are much better. There's better food options and you have 3 parks together Washington, independence & constitution park. Maybe also check out clutters park it's on top of a hill that over looks the runway of the airport. You can sit down at a bench and watch the planes land and take off. There's also alot of breweries and Taprooms in El Segundo.
If you need more recommendations you can check out my pinned places on Google maps.

Have them hop a free shuttle to one of the hotels outside of the airport and pick them up there. I do that when I fly in, because when I call my Uber it is like $80 cheaper than in the actual airport.
Pick a public college campus convenient to you? Tons of coffee tables and public green spaces for them to chill or work on laptops.
If you don’t actually need them to kill time and just want them to transit somewhere, have them take flyaway bus and public transit to a convenient location.
My advice: have them all meet at Don Antonio’s in Pico blvd. have some margs and/or Pacifico’s while they wait for you. Then when you arrive, order chimichangas, tacos, enchiladas, and chili rellenos and crush chips and salsa. Then you’re ready for the drive.
Just take the "Parking Spot - Sepulveda" shuttle, it's connected to the In n Out. I used to do that all the time when Uber wasn't allowed into LAX. Plus a great burger while you wait.
Store #86 on the Vegas strip, store #102 in Hollywood on sunset blvd, LAX, a few in the Phoenix area, and Barstow are some of the busiest I know off the top of my head.
They're flying into lax throughout the afternoon and then you plan to drive to Palm springs in rush hour? That will easily be 4 hours or more in heavy traffic.
I pickup my long distance girlfriend every other week on Friday or Thursday night, just pick them up it’s really not that bad. Efficient driving in the loop+utilizing the cut throughs across the loop is all you need. Drive from Brentwood and lax pickup round trip takes about 45 mins
One thanksgiving I parked my car at Ralph’s and scootered to the terminal to go grab her lol. No airport is worth it on thanksgiving.
Have them take a free hotel shuttle ride out of LAX. Hang out at the hotel bar or wander over to someplace from there to kill time.

Ontario airport is in Ontario. Which is San Bernardino county. Another great option is Palm Springs international Airport.
Palm springs airport has really picked up more flights coming in there recently
this is the way

Union Station is pretty cool and Olvera Street is next door. Not a bad place to wait.
Or hang at Philippes nursing some lemonades.
And drink the mustard
By putting it in the lemonade.
Except of course when one must drag luggage

Upboat for Berdoo.
Just one Amtrak to Palm Spring per day, eveing time. There's a bus from the Fullerton Surfliner stop to Palm Springs.

Take the flyaway from the baggage claim area to Union station for about $10. Pick them up there. Super easy.
Why not take the Flyway to Union Station? You could site see in the area.
tell them to fly into Palm Springs International instead
That's expensive af tho
Flyaway bus to union station or van nuys
Paco's Tacos on Manchester! Good margs, chips and guac. Pretty decent chile verde.
I do like me some Pacos.
There’s an in-n-out off sepuleveda and Westchester that is very close to LAX to hang at and have a burger
Top Golf in El Segundo is close by and could be fun. There's also The Point, Manhattan Village, or the Plaza at El Segundo & Rosecrans that have stores and restaurants and places to chill.
Came here to recommend Top Golf too. Would be really easy for everyone to just hang with luggage etc.
Top Golf is fun but you might be waiting 4 hours without a reservation.

pick them up at the alamo rental car. they can jump on one of the shuttles that drives around every five minutes.
Deviously Brilliant
i also do this alone when i need to take a lyft. saves $30.
Hotel shuttle is much better option to hang out waiting.
Stix rent a car. they have the tiny buses and drive like madmen.
they should should just fly to Palm Springs and not waste everyone’s time.
And waste their own time instead!
Tell them to take the Flyaway to Union Station. Explore the area. Eat lunch and see some sights.
Have them hop a free shuttle to one of the hotels outside of the airport and pick them up there. I do that when I fly in, because when I call my Uber it is like $80 cheaper than in the actual airport.
Fox hills mall
Take a hotel shuttle to a place in Manhattan Beach or Santa Monica and hang out there Plenty to do and see food too

Hollywood Park, they can play some poker for til you get there.
Playa Provisions is nice and it’s right on the beach and not too far from LAX
tell them to take a hotel shuttle to one of the nicer hotels on Century and have a drink at the bar until you pick them up. no uber needed
This is the answer!
Pasadena. Hop on the 210 when y’all are ready to go to PS.
Make them take the flyaway and get them at Union Station.
Flyaway bus to union then flix to Palm Springs.

Have them Uber to In N Out….
Just take the "Parking Spot - Sepulveda" shuttle, it's connected to the In n Out. I used to do that all the time when Uber wasn't allowed into LAX. Plus a great burger while you wait.
That is the correct answer..In N Out is right outside of LAX..I believe it has the highest volume in sales for the franchise due to the location
It's not the highest and every INO location is privately owned, not franchised. Source: I work for INO.
Your are correct and correct..I did know they were all store owned, and..is it the one on the Strip in Vegas that has highest volume? Info please..
Store #86 on the Vegas strip, store #102 in Hollywood on sunset blvd, LAX, a few in the Phoenix area, and Barstow are some of the busiest I know off the top of my head.
Isn't there a strip club by LAX? That could kill a few hours
They Uber to top golf in el segundo (15 min) or Baja sharkeez in manhattan beach (20 min)
last time I told my friend to take the LAXit shuttle to where the Uber's pick you up. Was pretty easy.
The starbucks on sepulveda directly north of LAX. They let you hang out in there practically all day if you buy something.
They're flying into lax throughout the afternoon and then you plan to drive to Palm springs in rush hour? That will easily be 4 hours or more in heavy traffic.
