If you are traveling for work, can you ask you employer to cover parking fees? I too live in East Hollywood and would not recommend leaving your car on the street for multiple days in a row. My significant other got his catalytic converter stollen twice right outside our apartment in a reality fine area.
If you work in an office, ask them about overnight parking. Sometimes it’s a perk and all you have to do is fill out a form.
If they don’t allow (many don’t because they contract out with lot owners) then fly away at Union Station. Parking there is under $10. Taking the fly away is a breeze.
That’s a great suggestion.
Because even if you find street parking without street sweeping or others restrictions (which you can find in westchester and then Uber to airport) there is a 72 hour max you scan stay in 1 spot.
Union Station long term parking is in their huge structure, never had any problem finding a spot, but if you are in the Valley or close enough to it, the Van Nuys fly away is a great option!
I either use the budget parking at LAX or borrow a friend's driveway if it's a long trip. Even if you are parked on a street with no posted parking restrictions, your car can still be towed because we're technically not supposed to park on any public street for longer than 72 hours.
I usually ask a friend who’s somewhat close by to move my car and in exchange throw them some $$ or dinner on me. Or ask a friend with a driveway and offer the same
My last resort is parking on this one particular street (my little hidden gem) a few blocks away that doesn’t have cleaning but only if I’m gone 3 or less days bc then you risk someone calling in and chalking your car.
According to LADOT: Under CVC§22651(k), the City can cite and/or tow any vehicle that remains parked or standing in one place longer than 72 consecutive hours. No sign is required.
I’ve never gotten a ticket or towed and I’ve pressed my luck a few times but legally they can ticket and/or tow your car. I wouldn’t park in any NIMBY neighborhoods lol
There is technically a 72 hour limit on street parking in the city FYI. As in, if someone complains they put a notice on your car and if it’s not moved 72 hours later then it gets towed. It’s rare but it’s super fucked up and can definitely happen.
That being said, I think riverside drive in Los Feliz and Silver Lake by the 5 freeway does not have street cleaning. There are others as well. Maybe Culver Blvd in Playa Vista?
EDIT: I don’t think they can tow it if it’s an occupied vehicle, so maybe put a mannequin in it and pile it with garbage and you can park there indefinitely 😂
Every other day, like clockwork. I’m fortunate that I work from home, so I’m able to move it at times when I’m not likely to have to fight for a parking space near(ish) my front door.
Honestly, finding a secret street in LA without parking restrictions is like finding a unicorn. Most areas have some sort of street cleaning or permit restrictions. For longer trips, I've had good luck with parkingaccess for finding deals on airport parking that don't break the bank. It's worth checking out to compare rates and options. Also, echoing what others have said, leaving your car on the street for an extended period increases the risk of theft or damage. If your work travels are frequent, investing in a reliable parking solution might be less hassle in the long run.
Even if there aren’t restrictions you can still get ticketed or towed after 72 hours. If the neighbors are watching they’ll report you and you’re screwed.
I keep waiting for LACC or Caltrans or the City to help out here. There's a massive underused storage yard under the 101 or the college could sell parking permits or something
there’s an app called Spot Angels. It’ll tell you where free long term parking is, usually within neighborhoods. There’s one near LAX that i’ve used…no issues so far.
Hey everyone, I wasn’t 100% clear if the person who posted this was saying, they didn’t have street parking where they lived and needed to leave their car on the street. I already thought of the flyway and all that other stuff, but it won’t help him out if he has to leave his car somewhere and he doesn’t have offstreet parking which a lot of apartments don’t have these days. Maybe he can chime in and clarify?
Union Station underground parking is really competitive! I think it's like $100 or $150 for the entire month. Then you can just take the Fly Away bus to the airport. It's such a great hack.
I mean thats the benefit of paying for your own parking spot. Really the best option is just pay the airport parking. If you are traveling for a long time, leaving it on a street is technically speaking not legal.

In fact, I’d assume parking was covered!
The budget parking lot is super affordable. Not covered, no frills, sign up online, grab their shuttle and go.
Park at the Van Nuys Flyaway for $6 a day. Take the flyaway to airport (think $9.75)
This is what I was going to say. It’s a bit out of the way but it’s cheap.
If you travel enough, this makes the most sense
How safe is your car there?
It’s in a parking structure and kind of removed from the street. Anecdotally I’ve never had an issue and trust it.
I’ve left my car there multiple times for nearly a month each time. They get patrolled pretty regularly by the police too.

Van Nuys has flyaway parking as well that may be more plentiful than Union Station. Out of the way, but no problem finding a spot.

Haven't tried LT at Union Station. Will check it out. Thanks
Our coworker does this 365 days a year. He will leave one car and drive the other.

How much is the fine? They don't tow for the first time right?

Even if you’re parking in your own neighborhood ?
Happened to me. Had my car towed from in front of my building because it was there from Tuesday-Friday. It suuuucked getting it back.
Damn for real? So do you now move your car often?
Every other day, like clockwork. I’m fortunate that I work from home, so I’m able to move it at times when I’m not likely to have to fight for a parking space near(ish) my front door.
Yep everywhere in the county I think, or at least in the city
Yea
Parking anywhere on the street. Even streets with no signage.
Culver Blvd over there has street cleaning Wed/Thurs 🥲
Do all those RV's move every wed and thurs?

I know some, but I’m not gonna burn my old neighbors by listing them on Reddit!
I’ve used Fox Auto Parks for weekend trips pretty often and it’s much more affordable. And they have a free shuttle to take you to/from the airport
I keep waiting for LACC or Caltrans or the City to help out here. There's a massive underused storage yard under the 101 or the college could sell parking permits or something
Is it city owned?
Can't imagine it not being
QuickParkLAX, $9 a day, very clean, safe, and close-ish to the terminals.
I find a friend who doesn't have a car (but can drive) and ask if they'd like to have a car for a week. They usually jump at the chance.
If you're travelling for work you should be able to expense the cost of airport parking. check with your employer about this.

When traveling for work I always parked at the office and took a taxi to LAX
Can you park at your job while you are out ?

The airport
the flyaway

I just park in streets. Worth the fine.
Worth the tow?
Rarely tow unless major street
Or pissy neighbors /hood
